Make the customisation as much as possible before it starts to impact on hardware capability. Don't make the same mistake EQ2 did in that it took people 12 months to get hardware that could run the game.

the thing is: will we have optic slots? if not: as much as possible, if so: well, give it a decent shot for most of the pieces but for peaces sake let the "top notch raiders" have their " i achieved THATNTHIS Armor" (at least as long as it does not remind me of disney or dreamworks) - you don't want that uproar.

I love dye options (preferably main color and at least one trim option) and wardrobe slots, as long as there is both of those I'm golden.

I think that we need to have as much customization as possible without it becoming too ridiculous. Like I really don't want to see people running around with a Santa Clause outfit or something like that. Some items like that just do not belong in the world of Norrath. I want my fantasy world to stay true yet awesome and epic at the same time.

One of my least favorite things about recent MMO's like WoW is that they celebrate Christmas and Halloween and it's just strange to me, I do not enjoy it. I like to keep the real world separate from my fantasy gaming world experience. Let our appearances vary but within the boundaries of a true fantasy immersion.

While i agree, that a Male dwarf bikini made from goat hide shouldn't be able to have stats of a titanium plate chestpiece,

Customization in a game that so far, already has tonnnnnnnns of customization options, can only be a good thing.

RP'ers are screaming out for a new sandbox to call home, Fully customizable clothing/gear for a long-term RP'er is going to be like epixxx to a 1337kid.

Didi i hear someone say Shyniiiiieeeees?

I think armor should be customizable... almost all of them, with certain exceptions. But only by ornaments, colors, decals, etc. For example warrior A and warrior B both have the same plate armor.

What should happen is that anyone who looks at them should be able to recognize what armor it is, yet they should have the ability to make them distinct. This can be done by maybe placing a dangling skulls on the shoulder pieces or feathers, something along those lines. I would even go as far to say that it would be ok to dye them a certain color and add decals to the armor. But this should an investment, either requiring time for getting mats or money to get the mats.

The main point is that even though the armor is customized to each persons likes and tastes, any person who looks upon them can still tell what armor drop it is.

Maybe if it special armor, like Lambent armor that was that glistening blue, the color would be unchangeable, but you could still add size limited decal (could be your guild banner), and ornaments.

As much as possible, last thing you want is to look the same as the next guy/girl.
Players spend hours and hours customizing their characters because it's a personal thing, so having sufficient options (be it character creation or armor altering) would be most welcome.
Great showing by the way, loving the art direction.

We should definitely know what class a player is by their armor.

I don't like games anymore where my look is separate from my actual armor - wardrobe vs stats armor. Also dyes are an awesome thing and should be built into the game from the beginning!

    I chose "some".

I like it when uber endgame/high end armors have their own unique appearance (and particle/glow effects, etc). However, I also want the ability to customize the color, or re-skin pieces of gear that I don't like the look of, so that I can create my own personal badass outfit. There needs to be flexibility that allows players to customize their armor to their own particular tastes.

Personally, I like my female characters to look like skimpy evil devil women from the depths of hell. While some people dislike skimpy armor/clothing on females from an immersion standpoint, I personally like it from the aspect of... its a fantasy game. My characters get to wear awesome gear (revealing or otherwise), that I couldn't ever dream of wearing/pulling off RL. MMO's let us express ourselves in ever-newer ways, and as such, I think we need to have the ability to customize our armor, while still maintaining the appearance of "Oh, okay, that person is wearing plate armor." and "Oh, hey that person is wearing leather!" Or even "Why the heck is that person wearing plate mixed with cloth?"

A lot of MMO's recently have been going a little crazy with their armor designs, where leather-type armor looks like plate, and sometimes plate looks like cloth or chain. If people want to mix-and-match pieces of gear, so be it - but those individual pieces of gear should look like their proper material (leather, plate, chainmail, cloth).

As others have said, they should be recognizable. An important part of an MMO is to look at someone else and be able to tell what kind of achievements they managed. Too diverse would destroy that and remove the "show off" effect that is important in MMOs.

This game seems all about choices, but there are some favorite elements of MMO's, especially early MMO's, that I would like to see preserved.

In Everquest, I used to love when I was strutting around in my planar gear and people would ask WHERE DID YOU GET THAT!? I liked that I could immediately identify how well equipped someone was by look at them.

That being said, being able to add adornments, change the color, and maybe some sort of sigil could be cool.

Let me create whatever armor I want but make it mean something. If I choose to cover my warrior all in plate, then I should take less damage than someone who made a tank top bikin plate armor. Damage mitigation only works if you cover up ALL of the body. Not parts of it.

Or robes/clothes for magic casters, allow enchantments to provide damage avoidance or whatever stat you come up with. The point is, the armor design choices I make should make me think twice about using it.

I really like this idea. Add hand wraps, bandages, tattoos, dyes, patches ... other small types of ornaments. Maybe even a chance to make the armor look worn/dirty/beat up? But the key would be to keep the "base set" readily identifiable. It's re-assuring to glance at a warrior and know he's in full armor, not his bathrobe!

It depends what it means with "as much as possible" as it's extremely important it looks good. Otherwise I know how it will end up like.
    For me it's :
"Some, but not so much that I can’t tell what they’re wearing"

I like the way EQII does it, really. Find gear you like, put it into appearance slots. Still, if we're talking being able to customize our gear.. I think it should be a fairly robust system, but it should stay within the lore. No bright pink plate, please. *snort* Ornaments, different pieces or sets or whatever, great. Let us change as little or as much as we like. The bigger the better, just keep it within reason. It -does- eventually get to the point of ridiculousness, and I think we're all better if we stay away from that line.

Just a few ideas about player customization of armor.
    • Create some boundaries. For instance, a player shouldn't be able to make a cloth robe look like plate armor or vice versa.
    • Armor dyeing is a must have, but most games have dyeing systems with limited capabilities. A more robust dyeing system would be amazing.
    • Give craftsmen/women the ability to add a signature feature to the armor they create.
    • Attach items or add marks to show off in game achievements.

I think this is one of the most important things. I want to look different from someone else. I want to be as special as possible. Especially with weapon abilities being shared between multiple people, we need to be able to make ourselves different from the next guy/girl even more

I've played lots of MMOs and the one thing they all seem to lack is uniqueness. What I mean by that is that every character looks the same. There is no sense of amazement of someone wearing a powerful set of armor, because a dozen other players are wearing it as well. It's the cookie cutter mentality. All classes begin to look alike. A wizard should be wearing robes, that's it! Not robes with spikes and pieces of metal jutting out that makes him look like a warrior. A thief should not wear anything higher than leather. Make the armor appropriate. I'm not saying that all armor should look different, but If I spend a good time questing for something, let it be mine and only mine! I don't want to see a a thousand other people walking around with the same armor or weapon that I just got. This is what I would like in the next MMO, a sense of "uniqueness". This is what makes people come back and keep playing. I guess it's not only about armor but about the game in general. Let me develop my character not the devs.

I voted: Some, but not so much that I can’t tell what they’re wearing.
