could they have appearance armor that the amount of customisable options increased as you levelled ? or make it so you have to have a crafter adjust it for you ? Fashion designer crafting class?

Trophies and accomplishments could also be visible like emblems on armors, or a special colored belt and colored fringes or golden clasps.. and I agree that armor made from a dragon scale should look like a dragon scale ;) (oh the Lodizal Turtle Shield comes to my mind ;))

Changing colors of armor is good , but anything past that I don't like.
I want to be able to tell what someone is wearing and I want others to know what I'm wearing

I'd like to know what I'm looking at. I also worry about immersion-breaking outfits. I don't want to see characters running around in zoot-suits or dressed up like super heroes or santa clause. I won't feel like I'm in Norrath at all.

I voted for some, but not so much that I can't tell what you're wearing for pretty much one reason, and it's for the capacity of internet trolls to make offensive content. If we could all behave like grown-ups, and make cool stuff I'd say no limits, but someone always has a penchant for phallus because they believe the internet makes them anonymous.

I am a fan of only color being able to be modified on normal gear. Seems like it takes something away when you can change how your gear looks. You have to earn the gear to look as a good as possible.

Now that being said, if people are looking for something different... I always thought it would be interesting to be able to "smelt" gear that drops into some sort of "gem". Then being able to insert that gem into certain types of armor that are available at a certain price from different vendors around the world. That way, when you reach end-game, not everyone will be looking the same.. and you can switch up your gear without losing the stats.

So for instance, you want to keep the stats on your Wurmslayer that you just earned from Lower Guk, but have been using it for so long your tired of the look. You would be able to smelt it down, and then insert it into your "Vendor_Axe_1", and keep the uber stats but switch the look. If of course, the Wurmslayer was an end of game option... *chuckle*

    Thoughts?

You want to know what they are wearing .. Slightly different, maybe tint and ornaments (add gems, fancy designs, special markings, an extra spike, this can be fun as long as it's only slight addition rather than a complete change)

EDIT: Not only do you want to know what people are wearing, you want people to know what YOU are wearing!! You want to show off that top tier item that NO ONE has but you and a select few! It's about showing off, and desiring. You see someone with this rare armor "I want this one day...." they become a hero in your eyes

I think some customization would be great to help players make their character unique. Even small changes like altering shapes, adding etched or raised designs, and changing color are great ways to make my Breastplate of Shielding +2 look different than the next persons.

I think armor should be based on stats, and a player can make it look however they wish it to look. If a player earns armor that makes them look like a cartoonish pile of moving axes and spikes, sure. But some of us want our armor to be less like warcraft, and more like armor. Sleek. Pollished. Scalloped and rounded to better glance a blow.

Armor that looks like it is made to protect us in a simple fashion while we do our darnedest to eviscerate the person that has drawn our rage.

As long as they are kept within the same armor classification, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to at least have a handful of options when it comes to the end look. You should still be able to differentiate between items or the same class. Ie Full plate should look like full plate not scale mail.

Yikes, it looks like the thread is glitching. I can only see 1 reply of the same post twice!

I'd like to be able to colour armour, not only that, but multiple sections to colour also helps provide a wider array of choice. So being able to colour different layers of an item possibly.

I would like to customise my armor enough to the point where I can be satisfied with all its details, but I would still want a base design made by the artists, as they certainly have a better sense of aesthethic than me. Also, I don't want to look like every single other player who's wearing similar armor or who is as much a newbie to the game as I am.

My solution to get as much customisation as possible while still being able to see what kind of foe I face is:
adding some sort of icon to the interface like a different looking healthbar could symbol a different armour type.
This allows maximal customisation and the strategic aspect doesnt suffer.
And it would also work very well for monsters that have different looks that might confuse players.

For weapons I'd prefer that an axe looks kinda like an axe assuming there is some sort of cathegorized damage like slashing/piercing/crushing that goes with the weapon types like it used to be in EQ2.

In general I have to say i want as much customisation as i can get as long as the gameplay doesnt suffer. but there can be alot of solutions that might allow us to get more.

Some. I don't want 14 year old children running around with barely any clothing on, all dyed pink. It's not only immersion braking, but a poor representation of the community of EQN.

I would like to see everyone wearing a different type of armor,it would be more realistic in my opinion

I agree. Armor sets are badges of honor, they're earned. To open the flood gates of creativity (and I'm a professional artist), I believe, could (1) remove the privilege of showing off your hard fought items, (2) lessen the visual identity and equity of the item itself, and (3) potentially compromise the integrity of the game - eg. players working up ridiculous looking gear. I'm hoping for life in Norrath, not 'crazy-leet-clown' world.

I should be able to make my armor as crazy as possible (with limits, we should be able to differentiate) or have it as clean as possible, as the devs made it.

Exactly. Art is one thing...but set armor should be there as a marker for exceptional in-game achievements and accomplishments IMO
