I wont roll a female dwarf, and if i did i would not make her with a beard. But i want others to be able to. I vote yes for dwarfish ladys with beards.

Seriously, I have never understood why female dwarves should have beards like their male counterparts. For starters, the original dwarven people (the Dvergar from Norse mythos) never had females as they were born out of the earth and rock, spirits of greed and craftmanship, hence they had no genre as they were quite neutral, like... like a ROCK.

Anyway, I suppose all those who are nostalgic of certain fandoms will like to have their female dwarfs to sport a thick bush beneath and/or around their chin sections, so, why not give them the option to have it? (but still looks hideous to me).

If we had beardless dwarven women all the dwarven men would be very very sad.

It should definitely be an option because the most important thing to remember is that the character you're staring at should be aesthetically pleasing to the player. If my friends want a female dwarf with or without a beard, well that should be completely up to them!

Though I have never had a dwarven character, if I were to make one, I would like it to be an option in the character creation screen. Personally, I would probably not choose a beard for a female character, dwarf or not ... but that does not mean that someone else may not want one. :) Give us options !!

As I mentioned elsewhere, I think that EQ1 should definitely be the guideline. If they were there as an option, they should continue to be there as an option, but definitely not forced.

This might invoke some flamage, but...you could go to the extreme of making the dwarf race genderless w.r.t. their avatar design. The entire array of avatar features would be available to the player. After all, isn't the reason this is a topic due to the lore saying its hard to distinguish between female and male dwarves? The only issue you'd have then is how to handle pronouns in dynamic dialog.

Avatar gender in my experience has been totally useless in determining any attribute about the player I'm interacting with. The question of the beard on female dwarves boils down to the confusion it can cause in our ability to guess the gender of that avatar, doesn't it? And perhaps the "eww" factor obviously demonstrated on this thread when faced with the possibility of a non-gender-conformant attribute.

So the matter is a combination of personal preference, self-expression, and game lore; seems to make sense to let the player express themselves the way they want.

A poster asked, "who would want to play a female dwarf?".....

ME! My first ever character in an MMO, EQ, specificially, was a female dwarf pally with a beard and a mustache.

I liked the creative beards that EQ2 designed for their female dwarfs and look forward to those in EQN.

Oh my gosh. I'm soooo tired of making male dwarves in games for the beard and playing them as female. Give us a proper bearded lass!

One of my earliest EQ memories back in 1999 was when I was running across North Karana and a dwarf shouted zone-wide, "Ah! Y've not lived until y've felt th' soft caress o' a lass's silky beard on yer chest."

Why can't we have both? Some female dwarf players don't want a beard? Fine. Some players want a beard? Fine.

I think that it should be a choice. One of my favorite memories from early on in Ever Quest 1 was stumbling upon the female dwarven beard! This is one of those things that has to be put into the game... its a staple, I mean c'mon Brass has a beard!

It should be optional and their should be many choices...its known even in Lord of the Rings that its a joke among the Dwarfs of where are their women...its because their women have beards and this makes people wonder how they reproduce cause everyone thought they were all men...they thought these magical little guys just pop up out of the grown like trees....of course this is not true. So yes it should be optional ...if its not then you really just have a female fat gnome. That's like making hobbits have no hair on their toes...so yes OPTIONAL. Get over the gross factor people its a game and its to be enjoyed.

Hmm, personally not a huge fan of female facial scruff, so I'd rather it wasn't a potential eyesore for those times when razer or waxing treatments are out of reach...

I vote no to facial scruff on female dwarves ;)
