So what about the assassin, traditionally they have a sneak. Unless SOE's idea of a ninja is very unique I personally see ninja's as a hybrid between monks and assassins.

I could see them using a ninja class to allow for more weapon variants, and that's about the only reason to have them in the game. Otherwise the skillset from monk and assassins would be enough to have a player made ninja.

In my opinion, it really depends on the lore and setting of the fantasy game. An MMO like Guild Wars 2 can get away with using technological wonders because (despite being a fantasy game) it fits the lore behind the world of Tyria. And while some games have elements of steampunk, others are built upon such fantastical magic that anything unusual can be explained away. The original Everquest was more "tame" in this regard, resting quietly in the realm of what was considered more traditional D&D fantasy.

However, this is Everquest Next. And despite taking place in Norrath, it can be an original concept that isn't a slave to either old or new ideas. It merely depends on where people want to take it.

I have no problem with concepts like Ninjas or guns in my fantasy MMOs, but I don't want them included unless the lore supports their presence. That concern holds true whether we're talking about Ninjas and guns, or swords and Wizards. What's important is that it makes sense in the lore the world is built upon. And as long as that's true, we can't argue the logic, only whether the style of that world appeals to us as fantasy fans.

Frankly, there have been enough guns and Ninjas in fantasy games this past decade that I no longer find these particular concepts to be strange. In fact, it's gotten to the point where I notice their absence more than their presence.

To give you an honest opinion of whether or not I want guns in Everquest Next, I would have to know more about the new lore of Everquest Next and the current state of technology in the world of Norrath. My main concern on this topic is that the existence or absence of these item makes sense with the game's actually setting, and not necessarily with player opinion on how fantasy games should be. What good is not having guns, for example, if you plan on introducing technology associated with guns.

I like the idea of an Assassins Creed look for a Ninja. I can see the style fitting much more with the game. It's more like a cloaked outsider character. Could be interesting!

Gnomes have always been crafty creatures in Fantasy worlds and having a gun with the stipulation that a gnome invented it never really bothered me. Also I can easy see Ninjas being an advanced class of the monk/rogue hybrid and I do not see any fantasy breaking in that as well.

Please for the love of all that is Everquest, do not allow guns in the game. I'm looking for a new version of Everquest and while some of the new ideas from the devs seem ok this is not one of them. I for one do not want this to be the evolution of world of Warcraft, where cows can shoot guns and gnomes are pirates. As far as a ninja goes, sorry you already have classes for that, assassins and rogues.

If I want to be a flippin ninja I will play league of legends. If I want to shoot guns I will play WoW. I play LoL once in awhile, and stopped play WoW because it got too easy and ridiculous . I am looking for a game that is not a cakewalk , and EQ was like that for me, I play EQ2 currently and would like something harder but within the lore parameters that Everquest as a franchise has created.

Lol so if they wanted to put AK-47 and Jet Fighters, nuke bombs in the lore would you allow it and be happy with it ? this is an exaggeration but still, i think you get the points :3

I agree with you, we are treading in murky waters!

The following is purely trying to reason through how guns would work, personally I'm not to fond of the idea.

Maybe muskets that have long reloads but the majority of using the weapon revolves around the bayonet. A character that would fire a volley and charge. It would be a different feel than most classes in today's games while trying to keep guns to a minimum. I definitely think there is a lot of room for discussion on this issue.

The same could be done for old pistols like what pirates used. It could be an interesting ability if it was a pistol mixed with a sword or something like that.

H E double hockey sticks No to guns and ninjas. Why inject these concepts into the fantasy world of everquest? They just don't fit. I'm gonna play this game regardless but *ick* what a turn off if ninjas are running around and I'm being shot at with firearms.

Even as a light EQ2 player, this felt wrong when I read the question. Ninja class just sounds too disconnected from what the rest of EQ has been. Guns on the other hand may have a place if it is worked in properly to the story such as if they were developed by the gnomes, then adopted and modified by other races. I am not 100% for nor opposed to the idea of guns, but if they do add them, I want them to be added in a way that makes them feel appropriate in the world.

actuall i don't you must not have read my other post that states if the guns made sense(slingshots, catapolts, hand cannons) are all forms of guns and my other post says (colts, magnums, ak's) would not make sense in the realm of Norrath

I can't talk about what the differences would be from a ninja to an assassin but I can guess when it comes to abilities, weapons and tactics like you already said, that it could mean a world of difference or a slight difference that someone might want to follow the ninja line(or sub class abilities) vs the assassin.

Why have any other mele DPS class but the assassin if the assassin will do more DPS? Again it comes down to everyone's play style is different and other classes might bring more to the group then DPS. That could be just as valuable!

    A. No, this is ridiculous.

    B. Are we supposed to take this round table seriously when you don't ask serious questions?

How about vehicles? Or Funny Hats? How do you feel about Ice Cream in EQN?

Don't ask a question just to ask it. Ask questions that challenge both the person asking it and the person answering it. Oh, and tell us why you are asking the question, otherwise it feels like PR fluff. And if that is the case, you are wasting our time and starting off on a bad foot, having told us our voices and opinions would matter, but then relegating what you ask to meaningless, baseless, fluff.

You KNOW what your 40 classes are, and you KNOW what weapons they will use. What is the point of this question?

No, PLEASE NO NO NO NO. Guns in MMORPGS are so goddam awful, really, but if guns are added then why not do them old style like back in in the 16th century. or just not that popular in the game, please guns are awful.

they introduced gunpowder barrels in EQ2 so saying that they figured out a way to create hand-cannons (gun powder, tube, and rock?) is not that far of a stretch. you have gnomes(atleast we all hope) they could easily have figured out how to make the lil buggers.

Your assumption that guns need to act the same way as bows is not an assumption we need to make. I can easily see guns, like some of the first pistols to be made, being one shot, long cooldown abilities that may be hard hitting or in the case of a musket, something you fire and the charge the enemy with a bayonet. I just have a hard time finding a two handed gun having a place whereas a pistol you can at least pair it with a sword. I'll have to think on this more :)
