If I understand it correctly, EQL will be it's own seperate game. There will be no EQL servers associated with EQN.

On a side note, it be great to see public building competitions going on. Having a crowd of people sitting on a hilltop, while two people try and out build each other. Wagering over land claim or materials, etc. It would be pretty awesome!

I think this comment was in connection to player housing in EQN, not player builds in EQNL. I'm assuming since the games are separate, players in EQN will still be able to build their own housing in EQN on the EQN servers. An easy work around would be to have the games cross over for just player housing, but I haven't read anything on even *IF* player housing will be part of EQN.

Well, being as both Everquest and EQ 2 have decorable player housing (Everquest even lets you decorate your lawn), and a solid 'niche' of EQ2 is the 'decorator' community, I can't believe they'll make another game called Everquest and not include probably the single feature that sets them the most apart from other MMO's.

EQ 2 just raised the limit of the number of houses your character can own from 20 to 25 with some new prestige houses recently introduced. They aren't going to turn away that cash cow - they'll throw out combat before they throw out decorating.

The thing I keep wondering about....is that not everyone is going to be all that accomplished at using these tools. Is the landscape going to be littered with half constructed or poorly conceived creations. A digital shanty town filled with partially constructed eyesores? What constitutes a keeper...as it were?

Even if you construct off server or in an instance and publish to the world? Beauty is still in the eye of the beholder. Who gets the say so for what the rest of us are going to have to look at in the world we payed to get access to?

Something that I hope happens with this is that if private building is allowed, then people will be able to take the same plot of land. Just like I've read about previous games, when there are plots of lands that can be claimed, it only becomes available to them and eventually there won't be any more plots for people to claim. Also, if two people have vastly different ideas for the same plot of land, why should one person be allowed to build and another person not? There very well should be the opportunity for players to do completely different things with the same plot of land and not be stopped by another player who claimed the same piece of land.

A solution I can think of is having claimed plots of land be instanced in some way (through phasing or whatever). This would allow multiple players access to the same plot of land without interrupting another players work or preventing another player from working on the same area. At the same time, if multiple people wish to show their work (or work in progress) to everyone and allow anyone to see or edit their work then players would have the option of selecting which players phase they wish to see (or keep the original non-player edited version if they prefer).

This not only would allow multiple players to show different ideas on the same plot of land, but it would also allow a customizable world for players to engage in, letting players choose which editor's plot of land they'd prefer to be open world for them while not affecting another person's view of the open world. For groups, group leader would have control over which phases are seen as default but players can vote for a different phase if possible.

The only thing about this is that it prevents players from walking in on one's piece of work for the area if there are other people working on the same plot of land, and for that i propose the first-come-first-serve solution, where the first player to mark their plot of land as open viewing would be the default viewed plot instead of the non-player edited plot of land. However if they were to remove open viewing, then the next person who had allowed open viewing would then become the default and the first players plot would move to the back of the line.

I do think this is a fair compromise as it doesn't interrupt someone ability to choose a plot of land, the first person who allows open access gets the freedom of allowing anyone to roam through their work or work in progress as players explore the land, players can then freely choose which open viewing plot they prefer to see as their default to have their own mix of different plots that they find the best to have and further allow players to build in private, which would be a bonus for anything that's made for player studio.

Just a humble suggestion from a player looking forward to this game.

The only reason I want private building at all ...or some form of it. Is so I can create props and sets for my films without worrying about people hopping in the way and crowding my scene.

From Alpha to Closed Beta to Open Beta, the world will be reset, so anything that was created will be gone, just what you have on you. Of course there will be a learning curve in everything, but from what I've seen in the videos, these tools are not going to be hard to use at all. If you know how to use a mouse and keyboard, it should be pretty easy to get used to.

I'm thinking Next should allow building in private mainly like the Neighborhood (Racial/Location themed environments with many lots/claims) and Prestige (Massive Location Themed) areas like EQ2, but you start your build from scratch.

I'd like to see Landmark and Next allow the option to have templates at least tradeable between games (same account) as blueprints. In both games you should also be allowed to scribe blueprints with the appropriate materials of templates you have access to if you want to gift them to other players in-game or trade them for in-game money/materials versus just having the Player Studio route.

At first I want to get my own plot and experiment and test my designs where no one can see them. Later after I have gained skill/abilities/resources I want to find a group of other like minded people and attempt to build an entire city or dungeon.

Sorry, just remembered the Neighborhood system I was thinking about was from LOTRO and not EQ2. Except, I want empty lots and not pre-fabricated buildings in each environment.
