I think you should have the option for things that would be potentially released as content either on the EQlive server or what have you, to hide it from view. This way people can experience your content for the first time via exploration.

Thinking on it, yeah. A toggle or some such would be nice, simply for those that want privacy, or to work on their own, creative ideas they don't want people seeing. The opinions on most of these polls seem to come down to 'The more options, the better.' *grin*

if there is no problems with servers crashing I would not mind if we can see each other's work but instances did work well with Everquest 2.Think we should be given both the choice and players being able to hide their work till finished sounds good.

Or build upwards? City in the Sky, anyone? I like the idea of less square footage in some claim areas, though. That could be interesting.

As long as someone can't come along and destroy my wonderful Voxels, I wouldn't mind anyone being able to see what i am building. I'm no architect by any means, so anything I build won't be TOP SECRET.

I do understand and agree with you for your purpose TreeBeard. Aside of that issue I really think it will add to the social aspect of the game if people can stop by while you are building. I love building in Eq2 however it does feel like I am in my own little world unless some one actively ports in. If it were open people that you do not know could stop by and comment, or you could pass by someone and strike up a conversation.I have shared ideas on building with people in EQ2 and it really added to my game. I made some new friends by visiting their houses and asking how they created what they did.

I would want it to be a toggle - default public, toggled to private, people management on top of that.

Big reveals, puzzles (such as the player run maze events found in EQ2) would be less interesting if built publicly - at the same time as I can see the lure in public building and participation, making the world really come alive.

Cooperative building was one of the best parts of Minecraft.

I absolutely would love people to see my finished product, however, here is my main concern! :)

With the Players Studio being a part of this, an option should exist to conceal your workings, completed or not. Much like EQNext does not wish to disclose all of the information to the public.

If I plan to add my building design to the players studio, I would prefer that I not ignite an idea in someone elses imagination, that is clearly a copy and perhaps improvement upon my design, prior to it's completion.

If player studio was not an option, I wouldn't care if people copied one bit. :)

With regards to other built in options, I think some people in here have mentioned some great ideas already.

As with most things what I really want are... *drum roll* options. A builder should have control over this "setting". Which as usual with options gives player the control that aligns with their personal preference. You want your lot fully open you can do that... if you want to be able to make it private or have an access list.. you should be able to do that (and change those options any time you choose).

I voted for "I'd rather keep all building in instances, and decide who can see it at all times."

The reason I voted for this is because while I don't mind people seeing what I am doing sometimes. There are other times that I'd like to keep it hidden until I reach a certain milestone. So having the flexibility is crucial and it benefits both those that wish to play publicly 100% of the time and those that would like more control.

I think I want something in between just not sure how that would be implemented. Such as, people can wander onto the property look around but if, for instance, I build a house I want to be able to *lock the front door* to allow myself privacy or unlock it to let everyone in for a huge party.

can we make it optional? like when I finish my home I'll set it to public for others to see and maybe have a rating and comment window. ;)

I want people to see what i am building both after i am finished and during the process. what is the point of being creative if noone else can enjoy what i have done

Since you are sharing Landmark with us, I voted to share it with other people..
I also understand being an Artist you want people to wait and see the final version..
But I think it would be more creative for everyone to work together and inspire..

For me, personally, I don't care whether other people can see me or not.

But it's great to compare what you did with your neighbor, it would add some sort of competition to the game

Half of the fun of building a cool item is having people stop by and chat with you as you are working on it. Not only does it improve the community by either you teaching a person the technique that you are using, or they are able to show you how to change something or create something you didn't know how to do before. What would be cool is if you could group and create a remote desktop type of environment where you could see how they do something without having to upload it to youtube first. Kind of like a Go to Meeting idea, but Go to Landmark, with the bonus if a group of people are working on a project they could work out designs and delegate work in game.

    I agree.

I would love to see the privacy setting simply being optional. I may have helped with a well-known Minecraft build, Westeroscraft, but I am also rather insecure at times. It wouldn't help someone like me if people always see what I am building and start giving me well-meant criticism. Even well-meant criticism still feeds my insecurities instead of reduce them.

I also believe I am likely not the only one being somewhat insecure at times. Someone who is new to the building games may not instantly want everything to be public. Having everything open for viewing all of the time I fear will lead to plenty of people not even willing to try out Landmark because they also fear to be criticized for their lack of creativity or knowledge on how to build.

Even if a privacy setting is optional I am sure many people will still want to show off their work.

I just would like to see Landmark being open and fun for everyone without it feeling like Big Brother is watching over your shoulder. At least with Minecraft you have the ability to learn how to build on your own computer without anyone else ever seeing you stumble around before you learn how to create better looking buildings. Since Landmark likely won't have an offline builder a privacy setting is the best option. As soon as someone is proud of their work they can always opt showing it off.

Some people like to be in the spotlight and others don't and I doubt showing off being optional would hurt anyone. A social dynamic is great but I believe it only works if people actually want this. It is just like the friend list, you can't always want to show up as online. It doesn't make you anti-social because not every moment in a game should be about everyone else. As long as the social moments are something you want to experience again it works.
