Im a 70 Nec with M1 tank pet with ad3 def stance and the other 2 pet buffs @ M1, with tainted heals. I tried to solo the first named in Acad this morning and simply could not do it. Every fight was the same, the pet just couldn't hold aggro. In the end I tried it without DPSing at all. No high dmg DoTs, no swarm pets, just sent the pet in, waited 5 seconds for him to get aggro and then proc'd tainted heals occasionally to keep the pet up. Lo and behold, about 20 seconds in the named runs over and splats me. I should also say that I tried wearing the Skywatcher robe for dethreat but it made no difference. Am I doing something wrong or is the pets taunting just that bad? :/
because our tank pet sucks donkey balls. it s SOE way to prevent necro from soloing everything. as for why it s because of the spell order of the pet, his pet is like the third skill he uses after engaging so he doesnt generate any aggro until maybe 10 sec in the fight, and by that time any heroic mob will have finished chewing it. advice root nuke root nuke root nuke rince an repeat until mob is dead
That sounds logical, but if that's the case I wish I hadn't wasted 21 aa in tainted heals There seems little point healing a pet to keep it alive if it cant match the heals threat in taunting. Would root/nuking really work? We only have one root and since all of our attacks are DoT based it seems that it's not a viable option - as opposed to wizards with two roots and huge one-shot nukes. That's not meant to be a moan though, wizzies need their roots and nukes - we just need a viable tank pet, as least when mastered and aa specced :/

I can't really do that as it'd mean losing a large chunk of raid dps, which I only do occasionally but I don't like sucking at it, heh. I know that sounds like a bit of an I-want-it-all argument, but I had to work pretty hard to get 90 aa (I only came back to eq2 when eof was released) so I thought I'd be capable of a bit of multi-purpose clobbering with the M1 pet and decent def stance on top of TH. If I have to respec my STR or INT line for STA in order to solo I think I'll have to just forget about soloing and respec the eof tree to remove tainted heals.
UnderToad wrote: Probably yeah. If you want high dps, you go for high dps. If you want high soloability, you go for that. Not that necros wont have high dps with the solo lines, but it wont be as high as the pure dps spec. Though I cant see why your tank pet shouldnt keep aggro if you do nothing but use tainted heals. I use a charmed pet, and tainted heals, and do some dps and I dont have to use perceptors command at all most of the time. And my tank is only an ad3 atm.
I'd also like to hear how to effectively root/nuke as a Necro, given how we only have two nukes available to us (single target lifetap, and ae lifetap). I can see it working, but it would take just about forever to solo anything doing that.
Zerfall@Permafrost wrote: Yup, it takes forever to get stuff to 50ish % and then hitting lifeburn + fd and letting our pet stand there and take a beating while the mob dies.
I've never cared for the "agro" control of the 50+ Necro tank pet(s). Lower level tank pets did a much better job of it.....possibly because the necro was not putting out that much in DPS or heals in those tiers. I'm spec'd for raiding since that's about all I do with this toon. In that situation DPS is all its about and could care less about my tank pet. I don't have a need to heal my pet normally but I will heal MT/MA/OT or spot heal raid-mates if needed. Acad....just root and Lifetap the 1st named...slow but effective. As for Lifeburning?? I always find that a suspect strat in solo encounters but then again I don't use tank pet normally. 2nd named, use tank pet, send in though door, warp back, then send in tank + UDT and its dead....simple really. 3rd, never tried to solo this encounter, did it a few times with a Fury but otherwise I don't bother. But IMO the tank pet really needs some hate boost otherwise one good Lifetap and the mob(s) on you vs it.
Well, using the root/nuke I was able to take the first named in acad (could maybe do more, but I didn't have time) and all but the last named in Nest (didn't bother trying the last). I have to admit, it feels wrong to have my very very expensive (time-wise) tank pet sit nest to me while I spend 10-20 minutes nickel and diming a named to death with a fraction of the solo capability of a wizard, but at least I don't have to worry about power as much I suppose. Unfortunately, every single named dropped wooden trash (is that normal?), but at least I know I can do it. Next, PP.
Undertoad, dont lose heart. I have some tips for you. Work up tinkering to get the memblur device. It takes some finessing, but it will send hate back to your pet. Make sure your pet is named differently than yourself. When you take aggro, hit Constrict, and then back off and root him. Let your tank pet keep beating on him. Do no dmg, root him again, and then ease back in. I went down STR and INT, but I didnt get the endline ability in STR. That afforded me 5 extra AA's, which I put into STA to get the pet AE stun and dmg clicky. Stuns generate more hate than straight dmg does, so use it as often as it's up. Just remember that it's a blue AE. I think it's a short range AE, but I'm not sure how short. Give your pet time in the beginning to build up some hate, and then ease into your nuke cycle. Once in a while, ease off. You'll get the feel. Obviously if you went fully down the STA line, it would be a cakewalk, but as a raiding necro, I can't do that.
i noticed my pet isint holding agro as well as before. soe probly put in the new AA and broke the soloing mechanisim if you dont have these AA lines. no biggie i was soloing just fine before all that crap and made do with what the present situation is. my advice do what soe wants spend your AA on the soloing lines ( STA summoner & manipulations necro)if thats not an option then re work your strat till you find one that works only use your pet for pulling and *distracting* a mob till you can begin a root and nuke routine.
For soloing with tank pet, sta and wis line helps a lot. Tank pet don't get any benefits from Str/Agi/Int line. As I solo a lot on quests, I go down the sta line. That blue AE stun is superb at keeping multiple encounter locked on the tank pet. Once engaged in combat, immediately use it and you can dps to your hearts content. On tough heroic mobs, I can hit 2-3 tainted heal together without drawing any agro while keeping the dots and lifetap running.
[p]although i agree with everyone about the master 1 tank pet's aggro holding, i think that particular named in acad just has a feature that makes him ignore the tank and go for the summoner. i solo all the time and normally tainted heal works pretty well (esp now 18%) but that particular named you just have to root and nuke and evenually lifeburn to save time. even if you send in tank, wait a while, see mob go black with taunt, send in undead tide, all dumbfires, etc,he will just hop over and bash you. only way is to keep him rooted and keep pet off him until right at the last minute. you can use cazic thule blessing or miracle which slows him to 1% for one minute too if you have it. [p]Currently my necro is 57 soon 58 along with my wife a lvl 58 templar we have lvled for quite some time now using my tank pet as our tank he holds great agro but i have specd the entire Wisdom line and will soon be refinishing the stamina line. I started with Tainted heals and the 10% dmg reduction. after finishing the stamina line i will be returning to necro line to finish off lifeburn. I have had no issues since I took the wisdom line and maxed the attack of my pet. I have mostly Adept 3s so im not doing weaker dmg. My pet is the Adept 3 version of the 52 pet since the M1 is pain to get, I do not know where to get the M1 pet yet other then Broker and its insanely priced. I think that we are not having trouble with the agro on pet since most of her Heals are reactive however for bosses I do most of the healing on pet chaining debuffs for tainted heals. I can also generally solo 3^^^ named mobs my level or lower which from what im reading maybe better then average. My int is nearly 500 not sure how that stacks up for my level as im only really new to EQ2 as far as playing my account is active in launch. I was an EQlive necro and rogue. I think trying the wisdom line you might find better agro control you will however spec yourself to that tank pet in a sense...but the wisdom line is very usable for all pets.[/p][p] [/p][p]just a thought[/p][p]-raz[/p]
Once you have STA line (except end ability) and tainted heals you wont ever want to be rid of them for soloing. These make our tank pet what it really should be as standard.
Well it seems we're being made to make a clear choice. Go for STA, WIS & Tainted heals if we want so tank pet solo nameds and take a fairly large raid dps hit, or do not take those lines and have to accept the fact we can only confidently tank pet trash, regardless of pet and pet buff spell strength. It's a shame but it's not terrible, at least I have a choice I suppose. Fwiw, I'm keeping my 'dps' AA setup (so I can still raid when I want to) and using the root/nuke method for names. If I can take most of Nest, and probably Acad I really shouldn't complain I suppose.

Zerfall@Permafrost wrote: i do it all the time, np's takes some time but now ive also respecced to 8 points into perceptor's command and tainted heals, makes the world of difference now, cause u can keep mob rooted and let pet take the dmg, while casting root and a few other spells will keep pet healed well enough u can drop in tide, horde, grave, all dots, just rotate root in everytime it pops back up...if resists, fear mob, the root again. Ive aquired well over 100p in the last 3 days just farming easy nameds, and some +70^^^'s in bonemire. acad, ive killed all named cept Crush, but thats stil just a tactic issue, ill get the little orc soon enough. Try heading to Forsaken city, and mystic lake, there are over 20 named to choose from withoin the 2 zones.
