Thank You Daybreak

Both sides of this conversation have valid points, but there's always been a development conflict based on the existence of a dual player base - hardcore and casual.

For many years the game was getting way too easy and the balance was shifting heavily toward casual. This xpac answers that. If you want to push your toon to its maximum potential, it's no longer easy, even for the elite players. I bet many of the old-school HC players/grinders would enjoy this xpac if they weren't long gone after so many years of the devs catering to the (more profitable, and more populous) casual player base.

I mean we've been through several xpacs in which all raid progression was done within a couple months, now here we are 4 months into this one, 2 zones still untouched and several guilds very competitive for the top spots. All the "srs bizness" players are after their 2.0's with a vengeance, and with tithe, ascension, and infusion, there seems to be a VERY high ceiling to how far you can develop your toons now.

On the other hand this leaves casual players in a strange position. They can't really group with the elite players anymore without being embarrassed. The gap between those who put in the effort and those who don't (to a great extent because they don't have time) is much wider than it's been in a long time.

There's no easy solution. Everyone can't be happy, probably the closest this game has ever been to "balanced" was RoK, and that balance was there mainly because the leet raiding guilds were escorting the casual players who asked nicely enough through VP for their epics.

If I had any solution to offer, I'd suggest there are a couple things they could do to at least make things a little better. Getting a handle on the economy would be a start - I have to wonder how many new or returning players have run away screaming after logging in and seeing items auction off for hundreds of thousands or millions of plat, while they are collecting 2g off body drops in the current content.

And they could certainly stop fixing things that weren't broken, like PQ's. Those were actually quite fun for a while, now they're just awful - probably because they've been modified to accommodate people getting their 2.0's (very, very, very few people relative to the server pop, and it will probably be that way for a very long time).

I'm sure it's harder than it seems to develop a balanced game. I don't think the devs are ignorant of what's happening, it's probably just more work than they can do to keep up with things spiraling out of control the way they are.

Some things can never be fixed, the proverbial genie is out of the bottle. But some things probably could be, not to everyone's satisfaction, but to give the casuals a reason to hang around. I mean, it's more than just the mid-xpac blues this time. There are real reasons for people to say, "You know what, screw this, I have no chance of ever being even slightly competitive here." And whatever the hardcore players might say about casuals, EQ2 needs the casual player base or guess what? No more reason to keep existing.

TBH, I don't care how difficult they make the raiding or end game. I will never see it until a few expansions from now. I just don't have the mindset or finger dexterity or whatever for that anymore, so I'm not calling for nerfs. Since I don't need my epic 2.0 (though I want it, I just don't lust for it), ill get it slowly, since I hate crafting. All in my own time. I will agree to just about anything if it helps the game but doesn't cost me more money (I'm almost F2P now due to finances).

I am taking neither side in your apparent beef with Zule. But I am providing a courtesy FYI - Sign in to the forums before attempting to viewing someones profile.

You went to all the effort of taking a screenshot, uploading to an image host, and linking it in a post, only for the screenshot to reveal that you did not log in to the forums before trying to view Zule's profile. Kind of lulzy.

I'll agree with you here. Camping isn't what id call a time sink either. Eq2 also had a lot when it came out. You make friends you get loot and xp ergo not a time sink imo. I'm thinking of trying to do mage epic 1 and luckily I have a friend (Meneltel) playing eq1 with me so predict the camping needed for some items while being frustrating at times will also not be horrible either.used to take hours to days in eq2 for some rare spawn too depending on luck or you can get lucky and have the named up already when you get there. Contrast that to epic 2 where bringing a friend for older content makes it even more boring as you don't need the help nor do most archetypes share a lot of the same factions. Anyway if you like old boring content epic 2 has PLENTY so knock yourself out :p

OK, I get it, you love to tell the world you are a "multiboxer" that "multiboxes" 6 characters at a time.

But do you really have to have so much spam after every post you make? Each to their own, but it does strike me as grossly excessive. I thought Cloudrat deserved the award of most obnoxious signature, until you came along.

Also the last name is there because I'd often get accused of botting when you don't need to bot to play 6 chars at once. Just need isboxer which is not a bot program though innerspace which isboxer needs can be used to bot. Ogrebot for example requires innerspace (and isxeq2) but neither isboxer nor innerspace are bot program. Innerspace is just a platform like windows that other things can run on. Isxeq2 is literally innerspace extension eq2. Isxogre is innerspace extension ogre. Neither come with innerspace or isboxer.

The best games I've played have taken both play styles into consideration. I honestly didn't know hardcore players existed in EQ2 for the longest time. Its not uncommon for both to look down upon the other. However, in the end it seems to create its own form of balance in a game. Of course there's always are going to be the casual player that wants the hardcore items while the hardcore player believes they should work for said items. And so on. To me, DB should strive to keep them separate so the casual player will always have something to strive for. So a lot of xpacs should have content that is fun for the hardcore players while also giving casual players their own playground. Sometimes one group gets left out which causes no end to complaints. Maybe that's what they are trying to establish this xpac. Sounds like they have extended the play time of this one. And its not one you can just sit out since I believe everyone will have to go through it in order for what's ahead. Still, while the casual players are still needed to survive, there has to be the hardcore players for those casuals to one day become. I am casual. I have been a hardcore player before (not here). While there are great feelings of accomplishment in that, I don't particularly care for the demands it has on you. And demands that rightfully should exist. I really feel I'll get there one day. Just not today.

    Interesting claims.

You may not decrypt or modify any data transmitted between the game software and Daybreak’s game servers. You may not develop, share, or use any software, program, macro, or interface that modifies the game play in any way or that gives a user any kind of advantage over other end users, except as expressly authorized by Daybreak. All forms and methods of cheating, including hacks, bots, aimbots, and duping are expressly forbidden. The sale or exchange of accounts, Virtual Items, Virtual Currency, Krono and/or in-game currency for real world money or monetary value is prohibited, except when purchased from Daybreak or otherwise expressly permitted by Daybreak in its sole and absolute discretion. EQ2 Rules of Conduct:
You may not modify any part of the EverQuest II Client, Server or any part of the EverQuest II Web Page located at <http://www.everquest2.com>.

Is it accurate to state that you run a third party program, which that hooks into the memory of the EQ2 client (which by default, modifies it), in order to allow you to have advantages which are not available to those not running the 3rd party software?

And either way, that has nothing to do with your signature being ridiculously long. If your response to someone pointing that that your signature is excessive, is to tell them to ignore you... That is rather telling.

I was a 'hardcore' player for over 10 years and this xpac made me quit. It really doesn't matter how far they let you grow when there are multiple fights where doing your best as a DPS is 'bad.' The only reason fights remain alive is because they put epics behind about 8 heavy handed, BORING roadblocks and you need epics to do damage to them.

Gaining power through tithe isn't difficult, its soul crushingly BORING. They made the huge mistake of not making current heroic content not provide the best experience gains as well. Instead the best way to grind exp is to solo old xpacs group content or join a grind group where 5 of the player go on follow and /afk. But again its a non-issue, instead of doing 10% too much DPS when you get lots of tithe you do 80% too much DPS.

This xpac most definitely does not 'cater' to hardcore players. It really doesn't cater to anybody except for people who like doing old quests and mindlessly grinding.

The xpac isn't difficult, it isn't interesting, it isn't provocative or surprisingly different, its B-O-R-I-N-G and otherwise poorly designed. This is what happens when you outright ignore the players and you know very little about the subtleties of the game itself.

Could you give me advice on how to spend tithe while on auto-follow and afk?
  15. Neiloch Well-Known Member

Make a macro to spend it in potency and have this hit the 1 key.

i think you are right on the money, economy is wrecked, the expansion feels like a bunch of mini games with no purpose other than to slow everyone down and eat time up, i really wish they had just made an awesome new land to explore with traditonal questing and dungeons to play in. I too do not log in much anymore and have canceled my gold subscription. will be taking a lond break if not permanent one. /salute

I think that's a red herring. The problem isn't that the latest content is too casual- or hardcore-oriented. It's that it's poorly conceived and unenjoyable. Itemization is grotesquely broken. The epic 2.0 prerequisites are rote, unimaginative and completely hostile to most players' habits and expectations. Few players, hardcore or casual, are fond of them.

Hardcore vs. casual is a philosophical argument that at this point has become a luxury. The cards are on the table. What the latest content reflects (not to mention the embarrassing technical performance of the servers) is a development team stripped bare by a company that wants to maximize short-term profit from this game, whatever the long-term costs. It's a pity.

I haven't played the game more than a simple login/logout for over a year now...I've logged in a couple of times to find everyone I knew gone and my guild deserted. If it wasn't for checking in to the forums for the first time in a long time and seeing this thread, I wouldn't have remembered that I still have 3 accounts being paid for monthly.

So add me to the list -- it was fun but it hasn't been the same for some time now, and thank you DBG for making the decision easy.

    Farewell everyone.

Except it does not modify the game. It just allows me send a keystroke tof a different client. Theres no difference between alt tabbing to press a keybind or using it on the main client. Isboxer is NOT a "cheat?. It does not hook into memory. It does not come with any bot. The clients are launched normally. It merely allows you to use a keystroke on 1 client and have one sent to another. 3rd party extensions are what you refer to. Those are not sold with innerspace or isboxer do not hack dupe come with any bot
    .
ISBoxer and Inner Space offer no protection from Warden or similar detection methods from other MMO publishers, because these products are not designed to break the rules and thus do not need any protection.
    from isboxer faq.

As for advantages. It's exactly the same as if you had 2 pcs and 2 mice, or just alt tabbed between clientsix and used a keybind. Are those giving an advantage over others? Isboxer just allows me to do it without alt tabbing. Do not confuse isboxer and innerspace with memory hacks bots or any kind of cheating. Both are separate things. Isboxer and innerspace do not come with anything like that. What its it can do and what it actually does are separate things.
