Thank you Everybody for making the SPRING/SUMMER ROAD TRIP (by Airship) 2020 a huge success!!!! It was great fun and it cannot be done without everybody.

Sure I can research these places and write them up and so can Schmet and Whilhelmina but without others that are interested in looking at them its all for naught. I know its great fun for me and I learn a lot about the places that I have never been to as well as the places that I have been to.

I sincerely hope that all of you will join me for the Mini-Fall ROAD TRIP starting on Thursday, 29 October 2020 and returning to your home on Tuesday, 02 November 2020.

    Again, thank you Everyone!!!!

off the clear blue water in the pictures above.

" Hours " , I get side tract all the time , watching interesting videos , or finding out interesting things about my goal of research.
I went to Crete on my honey moon and I was amazed about how much I did not see or do there , or I find out about the history of a people and gain new respect for others .
Cyrrena , Whilhelmina and I are doing this , because it is so much more than just putting together a fun virtual trip .
The internet is a very good tool to find things .
I was fortunate to find out how to link photos and websites , it makes it so much more easy to show people other countries
and to come up with a story to go with it so it feels like your there . Videos help even more to get to that point .
It is very hard to describe how a place looks like , I agree with the old saying " a picture tells a thousand words ", or something like that .

    Corfu
    Achilleion Palace :

    16 minutes

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empress_Elisabeth_of_Austria
Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Queen of Hungary

The Achilleion property was originally owned by Corfiote philosopher and diplomat Petros Vrailas Armenis and it was known as "Villa Vraila". In 1888 the Empress of Austria after visiting the place decided that it was the ideal location for her to build her palace in Corfu. The palace was designed by Italian architect Raffaele Caritto and built on a 200,000 m2 area. Elizabeth's husband, emperor Josef of Austria, had owned some nearby land as well. Ernst Herter, a famous German sculptor, was commissioned to create works inspired from Greek mythology. His famous sculpture Dying Achilles (Ancient Greek:), created in Berlin in 1884 as inscribed in the statue, forms the centrepiece of the Achilleion Gardens.

The palace, with the classic Greek statues that surround it, is a monument to platonic romanticism as well as escapism and was, naturally, named after Achilles: Achilleion.
The Triumph of Achilles by Franz von Matsch. Achilles is seen dragging Hector's lifeless body in front of the Gates of Troy. (From a panoramic fresco on the upper level of the main hall)
    source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achillei...
The place abounds with paintings and statues of Achilles, both in the main hall and in the lavish gardens depicting the heroic and tragic scenes of the Trojan war. The architectural style is Pompeian and has many parallels to that of the Russian imperial residence in Crimea.[1]
