Can't be the only fighter class without a discussion thread.

Kerrans and Dwarves becoming Shadow Knights but everyone asks why I, the Erudite, would become such? Yes I agree with Occam we do allow our swords to speak for us. I love me some target practice, a nice tail that doesn't have the ability to stay still long is works great! ;-)

SK's solo well (so much easier now compared to launch) but that is not their purpose. get in groups. Learn your skills and how/when to use them. Learn what is the purpose of a SK. When you reach that point and make use of the full potential of the class, then you will KNOW the POWER and GLORY of SHADOWKNIGHTS!!!

Soo many SK twinks out there. They PL up and never learn how to play the class. I have no sympathy for them and know of a few on my server that I will never group/raid with no matter what class I am playing. Those people are a wipe waiting to happen.

Firelight: Dump the rat merc. I've died sooooooooooooo many times using him. Go to Qeynos and get Keyrin, better merc. If the NPC's give you crap tell them to lick your boots.
I so hope you are not one of those good race aligned SK's. Those are abominations, even worse (if thats possible) than frogloks.
one of the worst things SOE did was remove alignment restrictions on classes. not only does it pretty much make the betrayal quest pointless but it really screws up the lore.

You're still restricted to Evil aligned cities on PVE servers so no worry about her screwing up lore. I do agree that there are many Shadow Knights that don't pay attention to playing the class correctly. Since I don't use mercs, for any reason, I can't give any advice on such, I do know a few SK's will take a healer though when solo'ing tougher heroic content.

94sk here soon to be 95. I just started using the collector Warewolf merc yesterday. And I have been making mega pulls and I only died once because I pulled over 30 mobs and got stun locked. Other then that the new merc rocks!

P.S. I usually run no healer but since I payed $60 for the new merc I am going to get my money's worth lol.

Hmm interesting I might have to try using the new templar mercenary then. Have you tried using the standard or elite mercenary from Skyshrine for comparison?

I just recently returned to the game about a week or two ago and my gear was mostly quest and PQ gear. I had not progressed to any of the original DoV heroic content before I had to leave the game. I just started doing the Skyshrine content recently and hired the warewolf templar merc when I saw how much the mobs scaled up from the Eastern Wastes. He is an absolute beast (no pun intended). He hits like a truck, casts Sanctuary often, and fires off heals before I even realize my HP is getting low.

However, I have been trying to use him to get familiar with tanking again and it's not working out well. He generates so much threat that I have to use both my taunts and my heavy hitter CAs right up front. If any of my abilities is resisted or misses (which seems to happen often enough) I just cannot get aggro back before the mob dies. I have done a bunch of reading on various forums about SK tanking specs but it just seems impossible to keep aggro of that guy. I thought about changing my crusader tree to bump the passive hate gain but that seems kinda silly for just merc aggro issues.

You can turn him off protect you before you pull and click it on a few seconds into the fight after you've built some hate he should still heal and cure just not attack until you click attack or protect button.

No sk should need a merc to heal on solo instances (perhaps for stuns might be an excuse) but an sk who cant solo is not playing his toon correctly

I'm also just returning to the game after a period of time, and leveling up my SK. He is just about to hit level 80, so I was wondering - are there any specific quests / areas I should be working in for quested / dropped gear (solo or heroic, NOT raid)? I heard the T9 crafted armor starts to pale in comparison to quested at this point (aside from the new stuff that can be crafted with reactants). When I left, void shards were still the 'big thing'...

    Thanks much in advance!

I'm the worst SK ever, and I don't need a merc to heal on the solo instances. Most of the new ones, anything that would outright kill you is simply a 'pay attention to the script/text' thing anyway.

I love my (86) SK with all my [little tiny black] heart (I just had to make another one :p) I was, however, wondering which stances you use for every day play. I use them all in different combinations and was just wondering what others use as combinations...as I am fighting in the DM, I have enough time to type this while still killing :p Have I mentioned I love my SK??
