Should conduct smoke testing at the wee hrs if the morning so as not to interfere with our daily grinding....this has been a test of the emergency response team..

Tika you are correct with the time EXCEPT here in California where the servers are based we have Daylight Savings time which moves the time ahead by 1 hour for the bulk of the year. It means if you are in an area which does not have DST the time will be an hour off what it normally is. Example Arizona is one hour ahead of California when using standard time. But the DLS kicks in and they both are the same time because Arizona does not use DLS. It is something that out lived its usefulness long ago but they keep around, actually they have expanded it in the recent past to cover more of the year.

As for not all states having legal cannabis California does.

Any ETA for servers coming back up?

Ive always been wondering, since day 1 of EQ2, why server maintance always have to be during EU prime time?
Wouldnt it be optimal to patch USA first, during their not-prime-time, see how that goes, learn from that experience, and then patch the EU servers during EU-not-prime-time

I saw on Discord that they found a problem while smoke testing the software. I'm not familiar with smoke testing software but when it comes to smoke testing hardware, that's usually when someone spills their drink on top the server rack and smoke comes out. So....

Thanks, Dream. Learn something new every day. I also inferred from Wiki's description is that smoke testing is done prior to actually patching something to ensure it doesn't blow up in your face, haha.

I've heard of various wags who want to have it "all year 'round! " that I'd like to -- ah -- discourage from that idea. My vengeance on them would not be as brutal as what I'd reserve for a captured hacker, but it'd probably still get me in trouble with the folks in Geneva nonetheless. >:-/

The first paragraph of the wiki link above:

"In computer programming and software testing, smoke testing (also confidence testing, sanity testing,[1] build verification test (BVT)[2][3][4] and build acceptance test) is preliminary testing to reveal simple failures severe enough to, for example, reject a prospective software release."

This is development or release testing, it should not be occurring during LIVE deployment!

Just saying.

Unless it's done automatically, there's no way in hell they're gonna drag people's heinies out of bed at 3 am here to do this. :-/

That being said, yeah, automatically could be an option; also keep in mind that there are any number of folks, myself included, that do not play 9-5, M-F, but can only get on in the wee hours, where having the servers down for hours would impact us. :-/

Like Europe, for instance; UK = 7-8 hours ahead; Central Europe = 8-9 hours, and even though Sebilis got amoeba'ed up by Antonia Bayle, there are undoubtedly Japanese players who are wee-houring during our regular business day (16 hours ahead, or thereabouts).
