Returning, should I?

(Edit about the new forums, see below.)

I think it might be saying something that my first question is - did the server forums go away? I was going to post this in the Crushbone and AB forums, but I cannot find them.

So, anyways, is it worth returning? I don't care about how well the game plays, what I need to help me stay are people.

I've several high levels, mostly at 90 or close, as well as a few younguns on CB. If anyone remembers me, my main is Cerilynn, a ranger, but I was also known as Eilistrae there.

I also tried starting up another youngster on AB, but never linked up with anyone.

So, in the end, I'm asking - are people friendly still, and willing to adopt one who feels a bit left behind?

Or am I going to find the level 1-10 chat filled with people who insist that I solo my way, but magically know imediately how to work with a group, and be expected to have my gear for grouping of such quality that I could raid with it, and if I should want to, possibly, apply to a raider association, have to have the gear of a raider of the hardest tier before I started raiding. (I know those those catch 22s have been around for a while.)

I don't want to be coddled, but I do want to participate in friendly, non-political, non-religeous, non-sports, chat, and to have a high probability of grouping for fun and quests.

Is this even possible any more?

    ~ Cerilynn

Edit: Apparently, between the time I stared to write this and when I hit post, the forums went down.

When they came back up, I now no longer could log in as my old self. <worries> I didn't even have to create a password to go with my posting name. Do I need to worry about others posting in my name? Or is my worry going to be ME trying to post on multiple sources/computers?
    How does this work?
(I am posting from a i-touch right now, but later may wish to post from my home computer.)

I would say all of your fears are justified (chat is the same as it ever was, etc.), but you could always download the game and log in for free to see if you still know anyone. I'm enjoying it, but I mostly play alone or with my wife, we are in a guild, but its usually pretty quiet with not many logged on and I tried to find one of the bigger family type guilds (through the in-game search tool). I definitely miss the old days of large guilds that I was a member of in EQ1 but I don't see that ever changing.

The forums have been moved and are starting fresh because of problems with the old one. I had to log into my SOE account to be able to post, so I wouldn't think anyone would be able to post as you unless you give them your login and password.

I'm trying to decide if i want to stay, if I was already gone I wouldn't come back tot his unless you love solo-fest.

Assuming you were already logged into the forums under your Station Account name and password, all you needed to do when logging into the new forum was register your posting name. I had the same thing happen when I came here direct from being logged into the Vanguard forum.

Ah, that would explain it. Thank you. It was confusing. First I was posting to, what are now, the old forums, hit post, then kept getting redirected to the main, non forum, page, then when it finally let me back, the new forums were up, and where it would have my account name it had "Log in or sign up," but when I clicked there, it only asked for my new forum name.

I know on AB people are still very friendly, and there is many guilds here including one im in that accept newer/returning players.

I'm thinking about coming back. I've got a love/hate relationship with this game.

I do love soloing (odd for an MMO? Bite me :p ), but is there actually Stuff To Do(tm) solo in any of the newer content?
Do they still do solo instance dungeons?

I think they do have solo instances in Skyshrine, if not most of the older group / raid content is soloable with a merc. :p

Holy cow, got up to get my dinner and there's an answer waiting. I was scared when I saw the empty forums, then I read they were just moved over / restarted / whatever.

Thanks. That might be worth getting the collector's edition for then, who can say no to a werewolf?

And I love vids of super-geared guys soloing raid bosses with a fishing pole :)

Be aware that you will need the proper expansions in order to use mercs. There's currently two expansions, with a third on the way, that you have to purchase and are not part of the standard subscription. I'm sorry, I don't know the names of them, just the contents. The first one, currently the cheapest, provides you with level 92 material, but does not give you mercs. It's designed for people who are 85+ more than anything, whether that be a crafter or adventurer. So if you are lower level, you can get away without purchasing this for now. The second one gives you the mercs, as well as beastlords. It's generally considered a feature expansion, rather than a regular expansion. However, it's more expensive than the first expansion, more than likely because the mercs allow people to move through content easier, no matter what level they are. The newest expansion is supposed to include the first expansion, and, from what I understand, is generally more of a higher level expansion, than one for all levels. The cost is also comparable to the second expansion. You will require the second expansion in order to use the pre-order or collectors edition merc, so be aware.

The new one, Chains of Eternity will include Destiny of Velious. Age of Discovery which is billed as a feature pack. Age of Discovery is what you need to use mercenaries & make beastlords.

Velious content is all 85+ (mostly +) and all Chains of Eternity stuff is 92+.

I've had a lot of folks in my guild come back in all level ranges and they seem happy so far. We've picked up quite a few brand new folks too. While I can't personally vouch for what the gameplay experience is like for them, most seem happy. If you're intrested in a guild, send a tell to Sultra on CB. She's a recent return and generally helpful to everyone.

Ceri, your guild is still there on Crushbone. We need to get busy and start recruiting again.
