I combine this with the dredaka quest also, all the way up to touching or talking to npc by the corruption stone. At no time, following instructions as closely as I could (more than once), also deleting quests and starting over, did I ever receive old swillys skull drop. By more than one of my characters. Old Swilly's skull is an auto-update off of the fourth boss. If you don't kill him, than the fifth/final boss doesn't spawn. I wasn't aware that you could skip the fourth boss. He's up on the plateau where all of the bird/dinosaur trash is, sitting on a perch above one of the nests.
