Linux Lutris error DXVAVDA fatal error

    This is odd. My girlfriend's system, running Zorin 16 Pro, and mine, running Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS - new installation, are no longer able to run EQ2 from Lutris.

    After the last update, we tried logging in today and both of us received the exact same message in our debug.log file:

    Code:
    ERROR:dxva_video_decode_accelerator_win.cc(1440)] DXVAVDA fatal error: could not LoadLibrary: msmpeg2vdec.dll: Module not found. (0x7E)
    I've ran EQ2 for a couple years now on these machines in one form or another and have never ran into this problem. Anybody else experiencing this or has anybody found a fix?

    I've searched the Internet, and nobody has a real fix for it that I've found. Neither of us had updated the OS prior to this; however, my GF did update it after she encountered the problem and it did not help.

    Did DBG change something server-side this last patch?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Here's her system:

    My system:
    Both of us were able to log in and play up until today, when we let the latest update finish loading.

    I've uploaded my log file to pastebin; I tried posting it here, but it was too long.

    Here are some errors I received.

    Code:

    gamemodeauto:

    Another update: I'm able to still play DDO through Lutris, no issues, on either DirectX9 or DirectX11. I can use:

    Code:
    $ nvidia-smi
    or

    Code:
    $ nvtop
    to watch the nvidia card engage. Oh, and we were both able to log in and play last night.

    Note: I am NOT a Linux person.

    Have you tried Googling for "ERROR:dxva_video_decode_accelerator_win.cc(1440)" ?? When I try that, I get a handful of pages discussing this error. Might be that one of them would help you diagnose the issue.

    Otherwise, I would suggest this thread about Linux with EQ2, and maybe contact Sturmlocke directly via PM?

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    I spent hours trying to track down the problem by researching not only the above error, but others in the log file, too. It was odd that two different systems running two different OSes happened to have the same error code after updates; moreover, both were working a couple of days prior to today.

    I eventually setup Steam and it seems to be working. I had to download 50GB for the game, so hopefully my ISP doesn't ding me for that :/. Sometimes, living in Alaska is awesome, others, it's a pain in the neck. We have the best Internet pricing and plans from the mid 2000s :)

    At least we both are able to log on and play, thanks to @Sturmlocke's guide for Steam (not the ideal situation, but it works).
