Anyone else having issues with initial startups?
    Thanks

Have you tried the simple stuff? Shut down the game, shut down your computer, reset your modem and router. Then turn it all back on. Start the Launchpad, and click the Advanced Tools button (crossed hammer and wrench icon). Ask it to validate files.

Have you checked out the Knowledge Base article Suggestions to resolve crashing and freezing?

If that doesn't help, follow the steps in this post.

    Hi
    (Chris here, different account)
So, yes, yes, yes, and yes.
What DID work was running it from the game folder as an administrator.

But here's where it gets interesting. I tried to log in to the game account associated with this ID. Being an old fart, I'd forgotten this password. So I changed the password- as you can see, since I'm posting from this ID, it works on the Forums. However, the main Daybreak server is apparently not talking to the game server, because I keep getting rejected for an incorrect password. When I've changed my password in the past, it's taken effect on all units of Daybreak immediately. Go figure.

I was able to login twice today with no problems.

Each account's password is separate. So if you have two accounts in EQ II, changing password in one wont change the password in the other. Personal experience.

I think you misunderstood. I changed the password on one account, using the main Daybreak page. Then, when I went to log in to that same account on the game, it hadn't updated.

In any case, running the game directly from the folder no longer works for either account, because of the game update today. The versions do not match. And I am still getting the "Unable to connect" error message.

    Wrong ping addresses.

    (1) Go to http://speedtest.net/ -- Click Begin Test, then click Share This Result, then copy the URL it gives you into your reply here. This tells us something about your ISP, type of connection, and UL/DL speeds.

    (2) From the START button, in the little window type CMD and hit enter to open a command window. Otherwise, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click the Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator" (For Windows 8 - Press the WINDOWS and X keys together and then click on Command Prompt (Admin). Click Yes to the User Account Control message that appears.)

    (3) In the CMD window, you should have a folder address (mine says C:\Users\Administrator>) with a flashing cursor after it. Type in each of three three commands below, one at a time, and let each run. You know it's done when you get the folder address and cursor back.
    • ipconfig /all > c:\netinfo.txt
    • tracert lpj.daybreakgames.com >> c:\netinfo.txt
    • pathping lpj.daybreakgames.com >> c:\netinfo.txt
    (4) Now, go to C:\netinfo.txt, and open that file with Notepad. Copy and paste all that info here. These three commands help us see if you have internet roadblocks, and exactly where they occur.

Password changes are not necessarily quick.

If you gave it less than a minute, it may not be enough time. With all the lag, I would give it 3 minutes, or longer.

If you gave it longer than that, then there is a different problem. Read Sigrdrifa's above post for ideas.

    Hello again and thank you!
I don't see a spot to share my speed test results- it's 70.3Mbps download, 5.8 upload, and ping is 12ms.

Doing those 3 commands from the admin command prompt- I don't know how long it's supposed to take, but it seems to hang on the second one. It's been several minutes with no resolution. That does not seem right.

Shame, shame, logging on with a privileged account!

I found a tip that suggested going into Internet Options and checking "Do not save encrypted pages to disk." I tried that and it got me to the opening launchpad- to the point where I could actually tell Launchpad to verify the game assets. It seems like every file is getting the same message: "Warning: Retrying <file name>"
It finally seems to give up, and I got this message:
    Unable to download SocketError:Connection Timed-out - Destination host failed to respond (10060 - 205.185.208.88 - http://eq2.patch.daybreakgames.com/patch/sha/eq2/eq2.sha.zs/8e/dfc/796d200299cfd89dffb4c5b

Crap, sorry don't know how to undo this idiot font.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Trace route may not work well anymore... I have read in an IT discussion that many places on the Internet turn it off and wont allow it through.

    Here's a question:
Is this more likely to be a problem with my machines, my ISP, or something with DBG?

I'd also add that I tried installing the game with Steam, and got the same errors.
  17. Geroblue Well-Known Member

    Don't use Steam... really.

If speed test shows good results, you should check your firewall/anti-virus software. I set mine to ask me if a program was okay. Not all such software has a setting that asks you if its okay to download/install something.

Firewall and antivirus are long since disabled. Steam was done as a test, to see if a different platform could get through.
  19. Wulfgyr I've got friends in EQ2Wire places

Just curious why you disabled your Firewall and antivirus? I know some gamers love to point to that as the cause of their problems, as it couldn't possible have anything to do with the 4 or 5 undocumented registry hacks, custom forwarding rules, etc., etc., that were used/tried for other games. It's kind of like leaving your car unlocked in the driveway, with a new toy or laptop in the backseat, imo.

Most of what you posted seems to indicate an issue outside your network, though the socket error might be related to something on your end (the handshake process isn't completing).

Is it only EQ2 having these issues? I know when I recovered my account last year, I had issues getting EQ2 to initially connect and patch, while EQ worked fine. After one of the maintenance periods, the problem mysteriously went away and never came back- hopefully that'll be the case for you today. Try installing/patching another MMO like FF:XIV on a trial account. All of these steps can help build a better picture and help troubleshoot - and can be done after you submit a trouble ticket. You can update tickets after you submit them, so no need to wait on that. :p

    G'luck!

I disabled the firewall and antivirus out of habit. I really cannot recall when they last interfered with any other software I run- very, very rarely I get a request to allow something past the firewall, but that's very uncommon these days. And yeah, I never muck about with my registry, and don't try to sidestep exploit rules or any of that nonsense. I don't want to get banned, it makes the game unfun, and I'd just screw up my computer because I'm not in any sense a programmer.

About the same time this blew up, I started having trouble connecting to my bank, oddly enough. I can't get nearly as much info about their system as is available for DBG, so I can't say if it's connected. But the timing is suspicious.
