This is the 'elitist' kind of attitude I care NOT to play with. I am and have been a subscriber for some time, but I'm wise enough to know that just because someone is F2P does not mean they do not support the game financially in other ways (ie@purchase expac's, purchase house deco items, etc). For any company to turn it's back on ANY customer, is a very bad move in the wrong direction. I choose to continue to play on my regular server than to join a server filled with 'elitist's' who think they are better than someone else just because they can't or don't 'pay their way'.

Btw, this is not directed at everyone playing on the new server as I know they are not ALL elitist, but is only directed at the 'elitist' group who thinks that because they have the financial means to subscribe, it makes them better than others who do not. As I do not wish to get into any kind of an argument here, I will just have my say and then quietly leave the thread. Feel free to respond to my 'rant' any way you like as it really matters not to me. Enjoy your game. I know I will enjoy mine.

It is not "elitist" for Daybreak to gate new content and new server types behind gold sub paywalls; instead it is clearly a way for them to keep the lights on in EQ2, instead of having to shut it down instead.

If free players across the MMO-sphere were financially supporting all these dev teams and publishers, they would be using F2P plans with cash shops for their games instead of B2P. Daybreak is not saying free players are not nice people. However, simply being "nice" doesn't prevent a game from shutting down, nor does it pay server bills, dev team salaries, company building rents and utilities, nor stockholders. And obviously free players are not pulling their weight in paying for anything, either in the cash shop or otherwise, as Daybreak is putting everything new behind gold sub paywalls and has been for some time now.

Your fantasy about free players supporting MMO games is clearly just that...a fantasy and nothing more. If you were heading up the team at Daybreak and had to try and pay them and all that overhead, your attitude would change extremely quickly.

How would you feel if you went to work every week and then never got a paycheck? If everybody you worked for was "nice" to you at work but you never got any money from them, would you still go to work there every day, year after year, or would you find another job where you actually got paid? Most people would have to call it a day. EQ2 will have to do just that if it can't keep its head above water.

Again, clearly if F2P players were pulling their weight overall, Daybreak (and all those other MMO devs and publishers that have run screaming from F2P and switched to charging money for their games with B2P) would be embracing that method. They are not. What does that tell you?

Having a bad attitude because any dev team is struggling to survive and doing what it can to keep their game going is a bit misplaced to be honest. How will you feel if EQ2 gets shuttered?

The game was Sub only for longer than it has been F2P. Wouldn't mind seeing it go back to Sub only, personally. Maybe gate content to lvl 30 or so for Free in order for people to try the game out before subbing.

I played for close to 6 years now , started on free to play ,
Now I get a yearly subscription on one account , but I have 4 accounts
frankly I can't afford to pay the subscription for them all.
the company has to be able to survive I very much understand that
I played a game for years ,where you had 2 choices you could buy every area for an account and it was yours as long as the game lasts .
Or you got a subscription and all areas would open up for you as long as your subscription lasts.
if the company goes bankrupt we wont be able to play anymore.
So Raff who knows if I am not a stockholder ;)

Well after having read through all these posts... I've decided to give it a go. I'll probably fire up the sub tonight. Was there for launch, and haven't played in years, but I always loved the atmosphere of the EQ community both in the original and EQ2. Guess I'll see how it goes.
