Sigh, yeah, especially with all the lack of documentation, reams of spaghetti code, programmers that left in a snit back in the day, etc., etc., etc.... :-/

    Hey all,

The first post in this thread has a link to all the separate wish lists--make sure you post your ideas on the correct one so they don't get lost! :D This thread is really just a spot to have all the links in one easily accessible location.

Not sure if I've already posted this one or not(been a while and have slept a few times) Bubbling water-tiles that have NO collision so that they can be used in creations that use water (Hot-springs/Waterfalls/giant bubbling caldrons to toss in...You get the idea :)

That would probably be filed under Non-Specific House Items (or maybe Moonlight Enchantments). Just to let you know for future reference. ;->

All I want is a left/right movement button in the decorator mode, similar to the up/down one. It's ridiculous to have to pick an item up completely just because you want to move it a fraction one way or the other! I can't understand why there isn't one, it can't be hard to program, surely!

What about the Misty Red Tiles? I haven't had a need for lava yet, but don't those work okay or do they need overlay something more substantial and red or orange to look good? :-/

    Here is my wish list.

UNDO button! How many times has everyone accidentally moved or picked up the wrong (painstakingly placed) item?

NUDGE button in any direction. As has been stated before, it's not optimal to have to pick up an item just to move it slightly. And since we're working in 3D with only a single view, it's almost impossible to accomplish this simple task in one try.

CLONE item. Be able to click on one object then stamp out exact copies (size, pitch, roll) of that same type of object from my bags.

A readout of the attributes of the selected item, i.e., the same information that's saved to the text file.

Grid lines on the floor, and a snap to grid feature,

Be able to name items, and see those names in the house inventory list.

Grouping items together so they move together.

    Here are a few more.

We need some indication of how an object will scale. Even general indications would help. For example, some statues can be scaled up to a huge size, whole others remain tiny, and many things don't scale at all. But there is no way of finding that out until you bring them into your house and test them. And that either means wasting money on the auction house or else doing a long quest, then being disappointed with the reward.

World sound effects would be nice, too. For example, have music boxes that play the seashore sound without stopping. Or the docks sounds or the tavern sounds or the "Orc hill" sounds, etc. etc. then we could place these in appropriate areas of the house, and when someone gets near enough, the sounds start.

I can't recall who did this (my apologies! I promise I'll track down the file...), but there was a great, Excel-ish looking spreadsheet on the tiles and dividers, at least. That's where I found that, while most things don't scale up beyond 6.00000000 in the various editing methods (including good ol' simple Notepad! check it out!), the new dividers (the ones without borders; Narrow and Tall) can scale up to 12.000etc., making for nicely huge building materials. ;->

An elegant solution occurred to me that would solve so many problems. Don't just provide a readout of the X,Y,Z,PITCH,ROLL,etc. values; provide them in an editable dialog box. And including an UNDO button. This would allow users to NUDGE items in any direction, and with an UNDO button, revert back to the last set of values. Basically, it would be like using the Save and Load buttons but for a single (selected) item and the attributes would be saved/loaded to the dialog box instead of a text file.

We could all imagine sophisticated ways to improve the house UI controls, but this one would be relatively easy to implement. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS, DEVS!!!

And if the developer implemented a LIFO stack into the dialog box, that would allow users nearly unlimited UNDOs!

    That's fantastic! Thank you.

    LIFO stack?

I dunno, I'd still like to see this saved to the layout file (which isn't actually a .txt file; it doesn't have any extension, though you can save it as a .txt version; it just won't count for the editing itself, though you can peruse it at your leisure that way, and make notes, "doodles," etc. without affecting the real layout file), and I'm sure the devs would, too, but I like the idea of doing the input using a dialog box like this. :)

If nothing else, it might cut down on the freak-outs my new Win7 baby has on occasion with the various DirectX versions it has to deal with; I have to wonder if all that Alt-Tabbing back and forth doesn't complicate matters there. :-/

I knew many people wouldn't understand that, but the devs would. It's a programming term that means "Last In First Out," and it's used when you want to save a stack of data and get it back later. The example everyone always uses to describe it is a stack of plates at restaurant buffet where the plates are staked on a spring. The last plate they put on the stack will be the first one someone will get when they grab a plate.

In the example of house decorating, they could use that to create an UNDO function. So, instead of just buffering the last command, and allowing a single UNDO, they could basically buffer all changes in a LIFO stack, then the users could just keep clicking UNDO as many times as they wanted to because all of the data ("plates") are still there on the stack.

Can you imagine how useful it would be to be able to undo changes/mistakes?!
