The following posts have all the dialogue (and quite a bit of the "flavor" text) from the new Freeport quest lines. (yeah, it's a VERY long read... sorry! I didn't want to leave anything out ) Dialogue is from the perspective of Baroness Lexa Puppykicker, a 90/300 Wood Elf Necro. Some NPCs had additional dialogue options available that I did not choose, so your results may vary. I have an occassional comment or explanation of scripted events that I set apart (like this).
If you haven't done the quests as of yet, and want to be surprised, STOP READING NOW.
If you've been busy with your Beastlord, or don't play evil toons, or don't have a toon high enough for the final quests, or are no longer playing and are just surfing the forums to keep up on Lore, then this should be a nice peek into the wonderful new quests that Freeport has to offer! It's a very well written story, imho, and it has quite a few very cool moments! Nice work guys!
I include dialogue for all quests up to the conclusion of "A Dismal Discovery." There are some VERY lore heavy quests after this one, and since Dismal is currently bugged and blocking everyone from advancing, I'm not gonna ruin the surprise. After the hotfix is in and more folks have finished the quest, I'll post the rest of the dialogue.

You have entered The City of Freeport.
    (Which looks frakkin AWESOME btw!)
You say, "Hail, Librarian Motius Feldarn"
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "Come closer, my fellow student of the arcane. How do your studies fare?"
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "I am advancing quite well in my summoning."
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "I am impressed by your confidence, Lexa. I propose a test of your skills for the Academy of Arcane Science. Surely, someone of your advanced prowess has nothing to fear from the simple tasks of target elimination or armament portage."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "What does this have to do with the Academy of Arcane Science?"
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "As the official house of arcane knowledge in Freeport, we have certain... interests. Firstly, we are an institution devoted to arcane learning and the procurement of lost arcane artifacts. Secondly, we provide Freeport with magical support wherever it is required, be it defense or offense."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "Ah, and this "target elimination" and "armament portage" is part of that. I understand."
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "Splendid! The armaments must be delivered clandestinely at magically marked locations within Stonestair Byway by an Erudite Mage. The targets you are to eliminate are Kerran and also reside within Stonestair Byway. It doesn't matter who, just as long as they are Kerran."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "I'll get right to it."
You receive Crate of Arcane Armaments.
You discovered Crate of Arcane Armaments.
You have entered Stonestair Byway: The Animus Corridors.
(Plant some weapons, kill some cats)

You have killed a kerra battlepriest.
You have entered The City of Freeport.
You say, "Hail, Librarian Motius Feldarn"
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "As I suspected, such simple tasks posed no challenge to you. What observations were you able to make within Stonestair Byway?"
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "The long standing feud between the Erudites and the Kerrans has come to a head. The Erudites are planning to attack them."
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "Excellent. You accomplished that task quite well."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 2600 experience into AA experience!
Your faction standing with The Academy of Arcane Science got better.

You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "What are we to gain from such strife?"
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "That is a bit of knowledge I am not privy to, Lexa. The command was given and carried out."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "Very well."
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "Considering how well you were able to accomplish the last task, I have determined that you would be the perfect candidate for an undertaking concerning mysterious arcanum being used by the ratongas and gnomes in Temple Street."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "It sounds interesting."
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "The amount of mechanical and arcane experimentations being carried out within that section of the city has risen dramatically. We have reason to believe they are of a necrotic nature. We want you to obtain energy cores from the necrotik clockworks and confiscate any research notes you find."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "I can do that."
You have entered Temple Street: Vault of Necromechanica.
    You have killed a necromechanist.
    You have killed a necrotik.
    Lexa has killed a necrotik.
    You have killed a necrotik.
    You have killed a necromechanist.
a necrotik says, "No, I don't want to end up in the scrap yard."
    You have killed a necrotik.
Lexa has killed a senior necromechanist.
You have entered The City of Freeport.
You say, "Hail, Librarian Motius Feldarn"
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "What were you able to procure for us, concerning the mechanical and arcane experimentations being carried out within Temple Street, Lexa? "
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "Here are the necrotic clockwork cores and the research notes I found."
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "I will begin studying them, immediately. They are... quite intriguing. Our academy has certainly gained more knowledge through your contributions."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "I'm glad to serve my arcanist brethren."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 2600 experience into AA experience!
Your faction standing with The Academy of Arcane Science got better.

Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "There is another topic of great intrigue to the Academy of Arcane Science; Freeblood."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "What about them?"
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "They are mysterious creatures born of magic and experimentation. Rumors abound as to their heritage and interests here in Freeport. As we are an institution devoted to arcane learning, they are of interest to us."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "To expand your knowledge."
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "You will undoubtedly encounter some insatiable Freeblood within Longshadow Alley. Obtain samples of the vapor that is generated upon their deaths, and gather any arcane objects you locate, related to the Freeblood."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "I'll spill some Freeblood."
You have entered Longshadow Alley: Daeneth Cloister.
    a Freeblood savage says, "Arrrgg...the pain...must feed..."
You have killed a Freeblood savage.
You have entered The City of Freeport.
You say, "Hail, Librarian Motius Feldarn"
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "I am pleased by your return, Lexa. Did you obtain the samples of vapor we desired?"
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "Yes, as well as some D'Morte House scrolls."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 2600 experience into AA experience!
Your faction standing with The Academy of Arcane Science got better.

Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "A wealth of information to be certain! It is no wonder that others have taken notice of your accomplishments."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "What others?"
Librarian Motius Feldarn says to you, "Our superior within the Academy, Foci Tamara Paust, has called for you. She was fascinated by the work you accomplished within Temple Street. She awaits your arrival, on the lower floor of the Academy, Lexa."
You say to Librarian Motius Feldarn, "I'll be sure to speak with her."
You say, "Hail, Foci Tamara Paust"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Yes? Well, what is it?"
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I was helping Librarian Feldarn and..."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Ah, you're the mortal that procured the Necromechanica research notes within Temple Street. Not that it was very impressive, darlin'; one of my minions could have done the same."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Then why didn't they?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "They lacked the desired subtlety, being all corpsified and mindless. But what you brought back proved rather... intriguing."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Why's that?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "The notes contained passages and equations copied from another source, but edited and notated in a distinctively different writing style and mindset."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Why are you so interested in it?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "I am Freeport's Foci, the leader of this institution. A rank I have held since the last Foci, Opal Darkbriar, was imprisoned for her offenses against the Overlord - A messy situation that brought no little grief and accusation upon us."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Who's Opal Darkbriar?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "She was the last Foci of the Academy of Arcane Science. Keep up, darlin'. A Teir'Dal of extraordinary skill that had been around for centuries and a close companion to the Overlord, until she stole Soulfire, his arcane sword. He didn't take to that so kindly. She was imprisoned and later killed by an eager assassin in Darklight Wood."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "And you were promoted?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Yes. From Savant to Foci. A role I take as seriously as I take our charge; acquiring arcane knowledge and items. Very. Seriously."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Hence, your interest in the Necromechanica research notes."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "And why I want you to go back into Temple Street and investigate this mysterious project they are working on."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I'll do it."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Your chance of success will improve with the use of this gnome illusion, Lexa."
You receive Temple Street Gnome Illusion.
You discovered Temple Street Gnome Illusion.
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Yeah, that'll be useful."
You have entered Temple Street: Vault of Necromechanica.
You begin to cast a spell.
    You change form.
    You say, "Hail, Glimzig Clangbottom"
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "Clang bang it! If I can't figure this out I'll be attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis!"
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "What?"
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "Something is defective within the clockworks here, but how is one to identify the cause when it only affects a few of the necro clockworks? One would require a greater sampling of them. You will aid me in my research! Here's a zapstick to deactivate them!"
    You receive Glimzig's Zapstick.
    You discovered Glimzig's Zapstick.
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "What gnome would pass that up?!"
Glimzig Clangbottom says, "You'll have to weaken the clockwork for my zapstick to be affective. Good luck!"
You must use this on necrotic clockworks that are under 30 percent life.
You gathered a deactivated necro clockwork.
You receive a Deactivated Necro Clockwork.
    You say, "Hail, Glimzig Clangbottom"
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "Splendid! You've returned with the necro clockwork samples. Analyst Dimir will be equally pleased by this accomplishment."
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "Who's that?"
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "Analyst Dimir. The ratonga who leads the work group I am employed in."
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "You're working with a ratonga?"
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "A concept that should not be surprising to you considering all of us are. I guess some still aren't used to it though."
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "Must not be."
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "Now, I must entrust you with the delivery of the necro clockwork sample study results. Analyst Dimir can be found in a building west of the Defiled Temple."
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "I'll get them to him."
    You say, "Hail, Analyst Dimir"
Analyst Dimir says to you, "Well mets, Lexa! What have you to contribute to this operation?"
You say to Analyst Dimir, "Clangbottom's clockwork study results."
Analyst Dimir says to you, "Ah, yes! Necrotic powered mechanical creations can be significantly unstable. Touchy, they are! Yous have to know how to handle thems. That's why wes work with you gnomes."
You say to Analyst Dimir, "Gnomes love their clockworks."
Analyst Dimir says to you, "Yes, yes! Wes knew gnomes were perfect ones to work with. Yous know already so much from the book. Bringing it here was smarts of us!"
You say to Analyst Dimir, "Yeah, that was real smart!"
a dedicated necromancer says, "You have not been given the clearance to examine the great book!"
Analyst Dimir says, "Now, now. Back to work for both. There's so much more for Dimir to do, just like yous!"
    (start a distraction out back)
Analyst Dimir says, "Bertox's bones! What was that?!"
Analyst Dimir says, "No. No. Nos! This is not good at all!"
(snag the book while they rush out to investigate)
It's a book of necromechanica research and development, written by Meldrath!
You have entered The City of Freeport.
You say, "Hail, Foci Tamara Paust"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "You are indeed dependable. That is useful in a mortal. So, tell me of your findings. Don't keep a Foci waiting."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "The gnomes and ratonga have a book of necromechanica, written by Meldrath!"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "A fascinating development, to be sure."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "And they are working on a huge mechanical device within one of the buildings!"
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 2600 experience into AA experience!
Your faction standing with The Academy of Arcane Science got better.
You receive \aITEM 400634640 -1069428935:a Standard of the Overlord.
You discovered \aITEM 400634640 -1069428935:a Standard of the Overlord.

Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "You surprise me, Lexa, and that is a rare quality in a breather."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "How do I surprise you?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "You are dutiful, and all of your own volition, too. It's why I can trust you to continue investigating the situation within Temple Street. Well, that and your demonstrated skills with the arcane."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "You're expecting me to go back in there?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "See, now this is exactly why I prefer the company of the dead. They know how to hold their tongues."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Ah, but they don't have my skills."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "A point that is beginning to dull with continued use, but true, none-the-less. Now, to get down to business, shall we? You're to acquire the blueprints to that huge mechanical and arcane what's-it that they're building. Kill anyone that knows how the machine was made. Bring me their skulls."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I can do that."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "And you will. We cannot allow such a potentially dangerous object to remain in such unstable hands. That would be a direct threat to Freeport! No one citizen or group of citizens should ever be allowed to hold such weaponry."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "So, why not destroy it?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "It may come to that. It may also turn out to be a useful little secret to have. Take this whisper stone, Lexa. Use it to contact me when you've found something of interest."
You receive 1 Foci's Whisper Stone.
    You discovered Foci's Whisper Stone.
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Very well, Foci."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Don't forget your gnome illusion, Lexa."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I won't."
You have entered Temple Street: Vault of Necromechanica.
You begin to cast a spell.
    You change form.
    (kill kill kill!)
    Lexa has killed a necrotok.
The whisper stone glows with an inner fire!
You say to you, "Lexa, I take it you've found all of the blueprints, and that each of the Necromechanists has been slain?"
You say to you, "Yes, they've been slain, Foci. And I have their skulls for you, too."
You say to you, "Excellent. They should come in handy, if I would need assistance deciphering the notes or completing the experiment later."
You say to you, "I also found a very odd gizmo on one of them."
You say to you, "Do tell, my dedicated mortal."
You say to you, "It is labeled "Necro-Core Forbulator 1122x8733-2b"."
You say to you, "Ah! According to the research notes you had provided earlier that is an integral part, one that they had been attempting to craft for months. Without it, the machine has no hope of working."
You say to you, "That does sound important."
You say to you, "We shouldn't let them know that the part's missing. They'll look for it once they find all of those dead bodies. You're going to plant a decoy Forbulator and then bring the real one to me, Lexa."
You say to you, "Where am I going to get a decoy, Foci?"
You say to you, "That doesn't sound like my problem. I'm sure a clever mortal, such as yourself, could find a gullible gnome somewhere in Temple Street to tinker a good facsimile."
You say to you, "I'll find something."
    You say, "Hail, Glimzig Clangbottom"
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "Oh, hello again, Lexa! Analyst Dimir has had you working on something, am I correct? It would be the only plausible reason as to why you had not returned to help me with my fascinating research, until this moment."
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "Right. Yeah, he has."
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "How fortuitous for you! Many a clever gnome has applied to work for the Gears of Fate directly, but have been denied."
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "Fortuitous for you, too!"
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "What? Oh, were you here on official business? I should have realized that the moment you returned! Well, what can I do to be of service?"
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "Analyst Dimir was hoping you could make a duplicate of this machine part."
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "Oh, I can try. I am not sure it will be functional though. This is some pretty advanced stuff. I mean err... I'll do what I can!"
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "That's great!"
(wait for him to make the decoy)
    You say, "Hail, Glimzig Clangbottom"
Glimzig Clangbottom says to you, "I'm done, Lexa! What do you think of that? I'm rather pleased with it myself!"
You receive Necro-Core Forbulator 1122x8733-2b Decoy.
You discovered Necro-Core Forbulator 1122x8733-2b Decoy.
You say to Glimzig Clangbottom, "Great job, Clangbottom."
    You place the Decoy Forbulator.
You have entered The City of Freeport.
You say, "Hail, Foci Tamara Paust"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "My, my! Look what the lichwolf dragged in! I was beginning to wonder if I would ever see my dedicated mortal, ever again."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Is that concern I hear in your voice?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Please. I'm not that desperate. Well, not for you, at any rate. I want the Necromechanist skulls and the Necro-Core Forbulator. The Forbulator is a key part to the weapon being constructing in the Defiled Temple. I will make sure it is turned over to the Overlord. When and if he sees fit to use the weapon, he will!"
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 2600 experience into AA experience!
Your faction standing with The Academy of Arcane Science got better.
You receive Lucanic Cloak of Expulsion.
You discovered Lucanic Cloak of Expulsion.

You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "You're in contact with the Overlord?"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Yes. Now try to keep up. You know how frustrated I get with the living's ceaseless chattering. I need you to present this proclamation to Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran, the supreme commander of the Freeport Militia."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "That'll be easy."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Good. Because I need someone I can trust, and someone... not me. You will not be the bearer of good news, I can warn you that."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I'll do it."
You say, "Hail, Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran"
Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran says to you, "What is it mage? Don't you see that some of us are busy defending the city?"
You say to Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran, "I see you're on the defensive."
Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran says to you, "I have never known a mage to approach me bearing good tidings, but you are welcome to be the first."
You say to Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran, "I've a scroll for you."
Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran says to you, "Hand it here! Wait, this isn't a message. It's a royal proclamation! Blah, blah, blah ... the escape of Opal Darkbriar... assets wasted... lack of preemptive action to have protected the Overlord from N'Velex?! Hereby, relinquish control of the Spellsplitters to the Academy of Arcane Science?! Signed by the Overlord! What is the meaning of this?!"
You say to Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran, "I thought it sounded quite clear."
Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran says to you, "D**n you and your power grabbing academy! We're trying to protect each and every one of you and serve the Overlord to our damnedest, and you can't help but stir the pot and chip away at us, and our ability to carry out our tasks, bit by bit. Soon, the military won't have the power to defend the city without a wizard's say so!"
You say to Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran, "Are you done?"
Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran says to you, "No, you can bet your spellbook, I'm not! But, I have no desire to continue speaking with you. Nor do I have any alternative than to let you leave here with Savant Keza, head of the Spellsplitters. You'll find her in the lower levels of this building."
You say to Grand Duke Lazarus Hazran, "Then I take my leave. "
(you will be jumped as you go downstairs)
You have killed a Freeport Militia Guard.
    You say, "Hail, Savant Keza"
Savant Keza says to you, "A fellow mage visiting the Freeport Militia. To what do I owe this pleasure?"
You say to Savant Keza, "I was sent to give Grand Duke Hazran a proclamation, signed by the Overlord. The Spellsplitters are now under the Academy of Arcane Science."
Savant Keza says to you, "This is no trick? We are to be relocated within the Academy?"
You say to Savant Keza, "Yes. I am to officially escort you there."
Savant Keza says to you, "You won't get any resistance from me! But what about the items in the lower dungeons, the confiscated arcane bits and baubles that Hazran never trusted to turn over to the Academy? We can't leave them here."
You say to Savant Keza, "I'll go get them."
Savant Keza says to you, "They won't hand them over willingly. They are locked up under heavy guard. Gods' luck!"
You say to Savant Keza, "Thank you."
You have entered A Bleak Dungeon.
Lexa has killed a Freeport Militia Guard.
(kill the guards, snag the loot)
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Savant Keza"
Savant Keza says to you, "Excellent, Lexa! Now that you have all of the confiscated arcane items, we can get underway. That is, if you are ready."
You say to Savant Keza, "Let's go!"
Savant Keza says, "Let's get to the Academy of Arcane Science as soon as possible."
You say, "Hail, Foci Tamara Paust"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "You have helped the Academy of Arcane Science rise in power and brought some invaluable assets within these walls."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "The Spellsplitters will be an invaluable addition to your Scientists."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Oh, yes. The Spellsplitters will be, too. Of that I am certain. And as the first act as their Foci, I am granting you with this title. You've earned it, Lexa."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "That is awesome!"
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 2600 experience into AA experience!
Your faction standing with The Academy of Arcane Science got better.
You receive :Lucanic Robe of Summoning.
You have been granted a new prefix title: Academy Spellsplitter Ally
You discovered Lucanic Robe of Summoning.

    You say, "Hail, Serris"
Serris says to you, "Sstop right there, citizen! I would have wordss with you."
You say to Serris, "What? I didn't do anything!"
Serris says to you, "Not to worry, citizen. This iss an opportunity to sserve the city and one that only a fool would passs up. There are benefitss to working with the Militia. You would be on the right sside of the law and at the right hand of Lucan."
You say to Serris, "I see. What is it you need?"
Serris says to you, "The city guard hass cracked down on weapon ssaless to unqualified citizens, but this hasn't stopped the illegal transsfer of blades in our city. The lasst thing Freeport needss iss another bloody civil war. Through some... perssuasion, I've uncovered the names of vendors who have been sselling to those who are not authorized to carry armss."
You say to Serris, "You mean like the civil war that erupted when Lucan disappeared?"
Serris says to you, "Precissely. Hisstory has consisstently shown that the shadow of a government is necessary to maintain order. Without it, the insectss of the city will devour each other. You ssurprise me with your knowledge of politicss, friend."
You say to Serris, "Yes, without order there is anarchy and all that. What was it you needed from me?"
Serris says to you, "I can't confront all of the vendors at once. As ssoon as the firsst one is aware of our questioning, the rest will amend their bookss or make themselvess sscarce. We're going to need to ssplit up. I'll speak to Ikthar Icehammer and my old friend Skaznik, while you sspeak to Sleeth and Jan MacGetz. Get their ledgerss to find out who they've been sselling to. And Lexa... expect a fight."
You say to Serris, "I can handle myself in a fight."
    You say, "Hail, Met Sleeth"
Met Sleeth says to you, "Feel free to peruse my fine goods."
You say to Met Sleeth, "I'm not here to shop. I'm interested in the names of those who buy your fine goods."
Met Sleeth says to you, "Why, no one but the upstanding citizens of Freeport, of course! I pride myself on honesty and a fair deal. Anyone who claims otherwise is supporting my competition. You know how cutthroat business can be, I'm sure."
You say to Met Sleeth, "That may be true. Just let me see your ledger."
Met Sleeth says to you, "I can see that you're an honest fellow as well. You can take me at my word, friend. The Overlord's will is my own, and I serve Freeport as loyally as a man can."
You say to Met Sleeth, "I'll be the judge of that."
Met Sleeth says to you, "Well, how about this? In honor of your hard work and dedication to Freeport, allow me to offer you a complimentary gift. It's only fair that someone as brave as you is rewarded for your efforts."
You say to Met Sleeth, "Stop stalling and give me the damned ledger."
    You receiveMet Sleeth's Sales Ledger.
Met Sleeth says to you, "Fine. I see there is no reasoning with you. Take the damned ledger. I'm sure you'll find that everything is in order."
You say to Met Sleeth, "If everything was in order, you wouldn't have held out on me. Goodbye."
    You say, "Hail, Jan MacGetz"
Jan MacGetz says to you, "Have a taste for fine steel, friend? You'll not be disappointed in my stock."
You say to Jan MacGetz, "No one will have to taste steel today, so long as you cooperate."
Jan MacGetz says to you, "Oh, yeah? Unless you want me to call the guards, you'll remove yourself from my sight immediately."
You say to Jan MacGetz, "Nice try, but I'm here on behalf of the Militia. I need to see your ledger."
Jan MacGetz says to you, "Well, I'm here on behalf of the Coalition of Tradesfolke, and I take my orders from them. You'll understand if I'm not interested in giving you anything but a fond farewell."
You say to Jan MacGetz, "If you want to stay in business, you'll give me that ledger."
Jan MacGetz says to you, "Hah. I wouldn't be in business if I let every thug with aspirations push me around. You do what you have to. We'll see who comes out on top."
You say to Jan MacGetz, "Let's see how fine your steel really is."
    You have killed Jan MacGetz.
    You say, "Hail, Serris"
Serris says to you, "Sso, did you get their ledgerss?"
You say to Serris, "Yes, but not without some difficulty."
Serris says to you, "Make no misstake, Lexa. The sstability of the city dependss on our vigilance. There are no neutral partiess in Freeport, only those that ssupport it, and those who would do it harm. It iss the duty of the faithful, you and I, to eliminate the latter. Now, let'ss ssee those ledgerss."
You say to Serris, "Here you are."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!

  4. ARCHIVED-Iskandar Guest

Serris says to you, "Yess, yess, yess. As I expected, arms were being sold to the Commonlands Dervishes. But even worse, there are citizenss who have weaponry without city approval. We musst confisscate their armss immediately. Can I count on you again, Lexa?"
You say to Serris, "Of course."
Serris says to you, "Ssplendid. First, get the shipmentss of armss that have made their way to the dervishess in the Commonlandss. Second, find the dissidentss on thiss lisst, and collect their weaponss. In both cases, expect a fight!"
You say to Serris, "I'll be on my guard. You'll see me again when I've finished collected the weapons."
    You have entered The Commonlands.
As you collect the crate of weapons, you are attacked!
You have killed a Dervish cutthroat.
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Iulus U`Vas"
Iulus U`Vas says to you, "Something I can do for you?"
You say to Iulus U`Vas, "I'm here to collect a compound bow that was sold to you by Met Sleeth."
Iulus U`Vas says to you, "Is there any particular reason? I need this bow for hunting."
You say to Iulus U`Vas, "You haven't been approved to own that bow, regardless of its purported purpose. Please hand it over."
Iulus U`Vas says to you, "Sure. You go ahead and try and take my bow, and I'll give you the arrows first."
You say to Iulus U`Vas, "Have it your way!"
    Lexa has killed Iulus U`Vas.
    You say, "Hail, Slinko"
Slinko says to you, "We weren't expecting a visitor. Are you lost?"
You say to Slinko, "I need you to hand over the battle axe and throwing axes you purchased."
Slinko says to you, "What? How will we protect ourselves? How will we protect our family?"
You say to Slinko, "Protection is the role of the Freeport Militia."
Slinko says to you, "Hmm, maybe you're new in town. In our experience, half the time the Militia is what we need protection from. The rest of the time, they show up after any fighting's already over. In either case, we'd rather be armed than defenseless."
You say to Slinko, "That doesn't change the situation. I'll be needing those axes."
Slinko says to you, "Don't suppose we have much choice in the matter, do we? Here, take them. We hope you're right about us being safe here."
You say to Slinko, "We'll all be safe, so long as we all follow Lucan's laws."
    You say, "Hail, Melenia Scantus"
Melenia Scantus says to you, "I'm not in the mood for chitchat."
You say to Melenia Scantus, "I hope you're in the mood to give me that sword."
Melenia Scantus says to you, "Right to the point, eh? Well, allow me to extend the same courtesy: you can have my zweihander when you pry it from my dead hands."
You say to Melenia Scantus, "If you insist."
    Lexa has killed Melenia Scantus.
    You say, "Hail, Drake Fallon"
Drake Fallon says to you, "Unity in Lucan."
You say to Drake Fallon, "Unity in Freeport. I have some bad news for you, citizen."
Drake Fallon says to you, "Yes, I've heard about you. You've come to collect the matched set of three long swords I purchased from Sleeth, I'm sure. I've some bad news for you, enforcer. I only have one of the swords. I gave the rest to my sons, and they're off fighting orcs in the Commonlands."
You say to Drake Fallon, "I'll take the one you've got."
Drake Fallon says to you, "I suppose you can have it. I'm an old man now, and don't need it. The sword was just something to remind me of my boys."
You say to Drake Fallon, "Thank you for your cooperation."
    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Oy, landlubber. Why ye be leerin' at me like that?"
You say to Kain Starkson, "I see you're armed, and I'll be needing those blades."
Kain Starkson says to you, "O' course. Ye have nothing better ta do than harass an old salt. Maybe ye can steal some cripple's crutches after this, or rob a beggar blind."
You say to Kain Starkson, "I'm not here to argue with you. Just give me your weapons."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Were I younger, I'd cut yer hand off and feed it to the sharks for speakin' such! My days as a young spitfire be long past, though. Here, take them."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Be careful who you threaten, old man."
    You say, "Hail, Serris"
Serris says to you, "Sso, did you disarm the citizenss?"
You say to Serris, "Yes, Serris. Here are their weapons."
Serris says to you, "I'm glad you did not ssuccumb to their whimpering or back down from a fight. It iss important to take a hard line againsst these citizenss. Mysself, I wass forced to sslay many men who refused to relinquish their blades."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 30 Gold, 94 Silver, 87 Copper for completing Disarm the Dissidents.
You receive a post of skulls.

You say to Serris, "I wasn't swayed by their pleas. Keeping the city safe is too important."
Serris says to you, "Of coursse, Lexa. You are wise beyond your yearss."
You say to Serris, "I'm sure this isn't the end of this. What about the vendors' stock?"
Serris says to you, "Yes. Now that we've sseen to the recipients of these weapons, we can look into where they're coming from. I've scoured the ledgers, and have found damning proof to confirm what I had already suspected: the purchase orders are signed with the profile of a hawk's head, stamped in red. Do you ssee what thiss meanss?"
You say to Serris, "Was it the Seafury Buccaneers?"
Serris says to you, "Yess. Precisely! You ssee!"
You say to Serris, "It was obvious: the red bird is meant to represent Bloodbeak, the leader of the Buccaneers."
Serris says to you, "The red sstamp of the hawk's head next to the purchase orderss iss the ssymbol for Bloodbeak, the leader of the Seafury Buccaneerss. Sso it iss up to uss to sstop them, and sstaunch the unregulated flow of weaponss into the handss of our enemiess. Of course, there are complicationss..."
You say to Serris, "What kinds of complications?"
Serris says to you, "The politicss of Freeport are delicate and complicated. The Lucanic Knightss will not get involved in this matter, and for good reason - tangling with the Buccaneers hass the potential to spark a bloody conflict. The fewer that know of your actionss, the better. You musst be as ssilent and sswift as a shadow."
You say to Serris, "So no one else must know of my actions, not even members of the Freeport Militia."
Serris says to you, "You must find the source of these armss. To sstart, go now to the sseaside dockss and ssearch for crates that bear the sseal of the Buccaneerss. If that fails, sscour the city. Time iss of the essence."
You say to Serris, "Let's do this."
(search crates in several areas until you find the weapons)
This crate is marked with the Seafury Buccaneers' symbol, but it's not full of weapons.
This crate does not bear the symbol of the Seafury Buccaneers.
This crate does not bear the symbol of the Seafury Buccaneers.
It's marked with the Seafury Buccaneers' symbol, and it's full of weapons!
You have entered Jade Tiger Inn Cellar.
a tipsy Buccaneer says, "We have uninvited guests! Let's make them feel welcome."
    (bar fight!)
    Lexa has killed Elly Sharptalon.
You have killed a tipsy Buccaneer.
You have killed a tipsy Buccaneer.
Javvy says, "Let's get to the Buccaneers' hideaway."
Fichman says, "D**n! We've got to tell Bloodbeak about this."
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Sanura Lithestripe"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Oh? What's this?"
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "Here are some crates of weapons for the city."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Ah, yes. I'd been told to expect you. I understand you're bringing weapons that need to be refurbished and stamped with the seal of the city. Let's see what you've got. Hmm... Some of these are in fine shape, barely used at all. And... wait a second. Where did you say these came from?"
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "I didn't say. And if you have to ask, you don't want to know."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Hsss... I should have known. If the blood of the Buccaneers was shed in order to obtain these blades, then I'm not happy about it. But more importantly, the Buccaneers won't be happy about it."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "You don't have to be happy about it. Just do your job."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "This animosity directed at the Buccaneers is completely unfounded. And if you ask me, the Militia isn't any nobler. At least the Buccaneers don't lord their authority over the rest of us, like my husband--gods bless him for being a pigheaded fascist."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "So your husband is in the Militia, but you have friends within the Seafury Buccaneers? That must make for some fun dinner conversation."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "I know it's rude to discuss city politics with a stranger. Forgive me, Lexa. It just gets me so agitated."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "No offense taken."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "We've jabbered enough. I'll get to work on these right away. Unity in Lucan."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "Unity in Freeport."
    You say, "Hail, Serris"
Serris says to you, "Shhh, Lexa. Don't draw any undue attention to uss. Did you ssee to it that the weaponss made it to Sanura?"
You say to Serris, "Yes. She's refurbishing them as we speak. What's with the mask?"
Serris says to you, "Sspare me no truthss. Had Sanura heard any rumorss of your infiltration? Did she know about the sslain Buccaneerss?"
You say to Serris, "She surmised that we'd acquired the weapons from the Buccaneers, but didn't know any details beyond that."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 30 Gold, 94 Silver, 83 Copper for completing The Source of the Swords.
You receive Pulsing Adornment of Intelligence.

Serris says to you, "Sso what else did Ssanura ssay?"
You say to Serris, "She was unhappy, but bound by duty to refurbish the weapons I'd brought her."
Serris says to you, "There iss only one thing we can do: eliminate the drunkardss who ssaw you, before word getss back to the rest of the Buccaneerss. For the good of our own skinss and the ssanctity of the city, we musst prevent the conflict that will ensue if they discover that representativess of the Militia killed their men. Meet me at the Sseafury Ssafehouse."
You say to Serris, "I understand. Let's go find them."
    You have entered Buccaneers' Hideout.
    You say, "Hail, Serris"
Serris says to you, "It'ss about time. Let'ss silence those witnesses before they sspeak to Bloodbeak!"
    You say to Serris, "Understood."
Serris says, "If the Lucanic Knightss knew we were here, it could go poorly for uss."
You have killed a buccaneer recruit.
Lexa has killed a buccaneer recruit.
You have killed a battle-hardened buccaneer.
Serris says, "You desserve sso much worsse!"
Fichman says, "It's the one from the cellar! Get her!"
    Serris has killed Javvy.
    You have killed Fichman.
Serris has killed Bimbalicus "Cookie" Cog-grinder.
    Grimglot says, "Get back!"
Grimglot says, "Do you have any idea who you're tangling with? You may not understand this yet, but Lucan approves of the activities of Bloodbeak's Seafury Buccaneers. When you cross us, you cross Overlord Lucan as well."
Grimglot says, "You'd do well to remember that those who interfere with us end up at the bottom of the ocean."
Captain Siren says, "You've caught my eye, adventurer."
Captain Siren says, "You may prove to be a valuable ally in the future, so I'm going to forget about your interference."
Captain Siren says, "Your friend Serris, on the other hand, isn't going to be so lucky. Don't expect to see her again."
Captain Siren says, "Why don't you go speak to Lasarian Nasin about the progress of his little worker bee, Sanura?"
Captain Siren says, "Oh, and don't worry... I'm not going to 'tell' Bloodbeak anything."
Captain Siren says, "Haha... Haha... HAHAHA!"
Captain Siren leaves through a door.
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Lasarian Nasin"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Have a seat. I've been expecting you."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Did Siren tell you I was coming?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "She did, although the word didn't come from her, personally. It's a rare treat to speak with her directly. Regardless, I already knew you'd be paying me a visit."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "What is it you want from me?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "You've become very profitable for me, and I'd like to keep our relationship mutually beneficial. Some confusion is to be expected, so allow me to explain. When Sanura is done refurbishing those weapons that you confiscated, they will make their way back into the hands of the Militia and other city groups. From there, the excess will trickle down to city vendors. From there, the weapons will be sold to citizens not unlike the ones you appropriated them from."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "So how was this profitable for you?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Each time those weapons change hands, the Coalition of Tradesfolke applies a small but not negligible fee."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "So what does this mean exactly?"
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 30 Gold, 90 Silver, 88 Copper for completing Cleaning Up the Mess.
    You receivean Ornate Freeport Chandelier.

Lasarian Nasin says to you, "So, maybe you thought you were protecting the city, or you were caught up in the rhetoric of the Militia, or you were looking to line your own pockets. Maybe you were trying to impress Serris. From my perspective, your intentions were inconsequential. You helped me, and I'm thankful."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "So what does this mean, exactly?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "I want to make sure that you understand our relationship, and that it remains amicable. You do me one little favor, and I'll consider us friends. You decline, and I can't guarantee your safety. It's a simple decision."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Let me hear your proposal, and then I'll decide."
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Your friends from the Militia have made it difficult for me to make good on a promise I've made. Several Freeport citizens and businessmen are expecting a delivery of Rusty Ol' Hatchet Port, and I don't have enough to meet demands. To solve this problem, I've watered down what little we had in stock. You can deliver it for me, and hope the recipients don't notice."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Oh, you want me to be the one to deliver the bad news booze?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "If the buyers don't notice that the bottles have been tampered with, then all is well. If they do notice, it's your fault; you'll have to fend for yourself. Now, don't underestimate the fury of someone who realizes they're being cheated."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "I suppose I don't have a choice in the matter. I'll be back."
    You say, "Hail, Painter Brushwuttle"
Painter Brushwuttle says to you, "Oh, you're here with the wine? Thanks. Just set it down and I'll get to it later."
You say to Painter Brushwuttle, "It's port, not wine. Rusty Ol' Hatchet Port."
Painter Brushwuttle says to you, "Aren't we the fancy pants? Well, port wine then. I don't know what it's called. I just know that I like it. Hatchet has that, how do you say... flavor."
You say to Painter Brushwuttle, "It's nice to meet a man with sophisticated tastes that appreciates... flavor."
    You say, "Hail, Surabaya"
Surabaya says to you, "It's about time you got here. Let's have a look at the goods, shall we?"
You say to Surabaya, "Sure, here you go."
Surabaya says to you, "What's this? Most of the bottles have already been opened, and poorly resealed. Are you trying to pull one over on me, courier?"
You say to Surabaya, "It's not what you think."
Surabaya says, "I'll plant a blade in your innards, I will! No one cheats Surabaya."
(she backs down during the fight)
Surabaya says, "I yield, I yield! Just leave the bottles and leave me alone."
    You say, "Hail, Metilia Arcavius"
Metilia Arcavius says to you, "Ah, just the one I've been waiting for. You've got the port, I trust? I didn't order a whole case, only a few bottles."
You say to Metilia Arcavius, "Sure, here you go."
Metilia Arcavius says to you, "How'd they get opened? And... they smell a little off."
You say to Metilia Arcavius, "Oh, were they opened? That's strange."
Metilia Arcavius says to you, "Well, it's no matter. My customers won't know the difference anyway. Have a good one."
You say to Metilia Arcavius, "You too."
    You say, "Hail, Speculator Montanlooa"
Speculator Montanlooa says to you, "Uncork one of those bottles, if you would."
You say to Speculator Montanlooa, "Sure, here you go."
Speculator Montanlooa says to you, "Err, this tastes like... like... ogre swill. You're trying to sell me ogre swill!"
You say to Speculator Montanlooa, "It's not what you think."
Speculator Montanlooa says, "I'll melt your flesh!"
Speculator Montanlooa says, "Fine! You win, this time. Just leave the shipment here."
    You say, "Hail, Lasarian Nasin"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "I heard through the grapevine that you managed to deliver all the bottles of Rusty Ol' Hatchet port, even when they didn't want it."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "It's true. Not all of your customers were pleased with the product."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 30 Gold, 89 Silver, 80 Copper for completing Turning Water Into Wine.
You receivea Small Ornate Freeport Barrel.
You receive a Small Ornate Freeport Counter.

Lasarian Nasin says to you, "I will make sure the unhappy customers are compensated, and that they know the problem was not the fault of the Coalition of Tradesfolke. So long as they believe that I was not responsible and that you were severely punished for this misdeed they will not hold a grudge."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Was there something else you needed?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "No, we're not done. Sanura brought me the weapons she'd processed and they need to be redistributed. You started this process, so you might as well see it through to the end. Don't worry, this time I'm not going to put you in harm's way. All you have to do is see the weapons safely to their new owners."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Give me the list of recipients, and I'll be off."
    You say, "Hail, The Forgotten"
The Forgotten says to you, "We weren't expecting a delivery."
You say to The Forgotten, "These weapons are from the Coalition of Tradesfolke, to use in the defense of Freeport."
The Forgotten says to you, "I am far less interested in what you're carrying, and more interested in you. I hope to see you again, Lexa. I hope to see you again soon."
You say to The Forgotten, "I may return, if it is in the city's best interests."
    You say, "Hail, Micha Longtail"
Micha Longtail says to you, "Ooh, shiny pointy things. Just set them down. I'll see to it that they're distributed properly."
You say to Micha Longtail, "Unity in Freeport."
    You say, "Hail, Adrianna"
Adrianna says to you, "I don't have time to fuss with these... things... right now. The priests and priestesses of the Dismal Rage are very busy, and I am no exception."
You say to Adrianna, "I'll just drop these... things... off and let you get back to work, then."
    You say, "Hail, Kal'ril Nightstalker"
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "That shipment must be heavy. Why don't you cop a squat and relax?"
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "I'd be glad to."
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "There you go. There's no reason to move so fast. Just stop, take a deep breath of the sea air, and relax. Enjoy what you've got, while you've got it."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "The sea air and dockside stench aren't exactly like roses, but I see what you mean."
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "Haha. I think you and I are going to get along just fine, Lexa, despite what everyone else says about you. Feel free to stop by and say hello anytime."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "Perhaps we'll cross paths again."
:Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "Tell Lasarian that he'll get his payment. As long as he keeps us well-supplied and protected, the Tradesfolke will be up to their ears in goods and slaves."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "I'm sure he'll be happy to hear that."
    You say, "Hail, Met Sleeth"
Met Sleeth says to you, "Feel free to peruse my... Oh, it's you again. What do you want now?"
You say to Met Sleeth, "Oh, I remember you. We parted on a sour note last time, didn't we?"
Met Sleeth says to you, "You could say that. So what do you want now?"
You say to Met Sleeth, "I've got a delivery of weapons for you."
Met Sleeth says to you, "You threatened me and then stole my customer's weapons. Do you think I'm going to let you sell them back to me?"
You say to Met Sleeth, "I'm just following orders."
    Met Sleeth says, "Draw steel!"
    You have killed Met Sleeth.
    You say, "Hail, Lasarian Nasin"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Back already? I heard you had some mishaps."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Mishaps? Sleeth flew into a murderous rage when he saw me."
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Listen to me well, Lexa. Mishaps are like knives: they either serve us or cut us as we grasp them by the blade or the handle. You are standing here, so you clearly handled this mishap appropriately. Keep up the good work, and you'll do well for yourself in our city."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "I see what you mean."
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Now go do whatever it is that you do. I'll call for you again if your services are required."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Looking forward to that day."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!

    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
Lerenth says to you, "Glory to the Overlord, citizen. This is the perfect time to support Freeport. Wouldn't you agree?"
You say to Lerenth, "What makes you say that?"
Lerenth says to you, "Just hear me out. A month ago, I was nobody in this city. Now I'm helping the Freeport Militia. Things are going great. I'm telling you: it won't be long before I'm a member of the Lucanic Knights!"
You say to Lerenth, "Sounds like you've really turned your life around."
Lerenth says to you, "No kidding. Since Lucan returned, life in Freeport has never been better."
You say to Lerenth, "So what does this have to do with me?"
Lerenth says to you, "Stick with me. There's no limit to how successful an able-bodied adventurer like you can be in Freeport - and I'll show you how. I just need some help in culling the unsavory elements of the city. Help me with my task, and you'll be rewarded just like I have."
You say to Lerenth, "Alright. I'll help cull the disloyal."
You say, "Hail, A dissenting citizen"
a dissenting citizen says to you, "Wait, I know why you're here. Please, leave me be!"
You say to a dissenting citizen, "Follow me to Beggar's Court, citizen."
You say, "Hail, A dissenting citizen"
a dissenting citizen says to you, "Wait, I know why you're here. Please, leave me be!"
You say to a dissenting citizen, "Don't worry. If you just follow me, everything will be okay."
    You say, "Hail, Tullia Domna"
Tullia Domna says to you, "The sunset light of Qeynos' truth will shine upon us with its mighty glow, bringing about the end of tyrannical tyranny and the return of my beloved cheese."
You say to Tullia Domna, "Oh, you're crazier than a coconut."
Tullia Domna says to you, "How dare you speak to me that way, specious runt-kin. Do you have any concept of who I am?"
You say to Tullia Domna, "Your name is Tullia Domna, and you're wanted for treason."
Tullia Domna says to you, "I am Queen Antonia Bayle, lord and protector of the UNIVERSE! And you, sir or madam, are walking upon my rose petals. These are MY rose petals! Do you understand me?!"
You say to Tullia Domna, "It can't possibly get any crazier."
Tullia Domna says to you, "That was metaphorical, allegorical, sea coral. Are you dense? Antonia Bayle does not suffer fools gladly."
You say to Tullia Domna, "No, just come with me."
Hodga Blackblood says to you, "Stand easy, Lexa. There's no need for you to escort Tullia, err... her royal highness... to the Beggar's Court."
You say to Hodga Blackblood, "Her name is on my list."
Hodga Blackblood says to you, "No. By the order of Overlord Lucan D'Lere, she stays here."
You say to Hodga Blackblood, "But she's a rambling madwoman."
Hodga Blackblood says to you, "I'll let you in on a little secret: the Overlord couldn't be more pleased with Tullia's rants. She makes Antonia out to be a fool. And she's mostly harmless â€" only occasionally does a gullible adventurer play into her delusions and help her murder someone."
You say to Hodga Blackblood, "I see. I'll leave her be then."
Hodga Blackblood says to you, "Glad you understand. Go about your business then."
You say to Hodga Blackblood, "Unity in Lucan."
Tullia Domna says to you, "...and stay AWAY from my rose petals!"
You say to Tullia Domna, "My lady, I will stay as far away from you as possible."
    You say, "Hail, Tullia Domna"
Tullia Domna says, "Come hither... how can I, Queen Antonia Bayle, serve you?"
    You say, "Hail, Saveth Noolright"
Saveth Noolright says to you, "Here's one for Sir Lucan: 'He's just a ruler. In a long line of rulers. Looking for a few more orcs to slay. They say that he fights them with one hand tied to his back. And he won't leave Freeport till you remember his name.'"
You say to Saveth Noolright, "You're on my list. Please follow me."
Saveth Noolright says to you, "Wait, what? No... you can't! It... it was just one song! I didn't even write it."
You say to Saveth Noolright, "It sounds like you know what got you in hot water."
Saveth Noolright says to you, "I just performed one song about the Seafury Buccaneers. A bit of a romance, about how they rob from the rich, give to the poor, and always get the girl. You know? It's only a song."
You say to Saveth Noolright, "Sorry. This isn't my problem."
Saveth Noolright says to you, "I'll die first! I'll die before I let you take me away."
You say to Saveth Noolright, "I can help you with that!"
    You have killed Saveth Noolright.
    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
Lerenth says to you, "Did you escort the citizens on the list to Beggar's Court?"
You say to Lerenth, "Yes, the ones that I didn't have to kill."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 32 Gold, 85 Silver, 82 Copper for completing Culling the Disloyal.
You receive Dethknell Citadel Over the Academy.

Lerenth says to you, "Hah! Of course. And now maybe you're starting to understand what a pleasure it is to work for Freeport. Can you feel the power, the prestige, and the right to use force whenever you want?"
You say to Lerenth, "I just did what had to be done for the good of Freeport."
Lerenth says to you, "And the best part is that there's never a shortage of work. Case in point, I'm headed to the Sprawl shortly to deal with some of the Dreadnaughts that are out of line. You should meet me there."
You say to Lerenth, "Why are they out of line?"
Lerenth says to you, "It's not my job to ask questions. And to be completely honest, who cares? There's an uprising and the city needs us to return order to the Sprawl."
You say to Lerenth, "What should we expect?"
Lerenth says to you, "Expect a fight, of course. These are the Dreadnaughts we're talking about. They aren't going to stop raising a fuss unless we beat some sense into them."
You say to Lerenth, "Alright, let's do this."
Lerenth says to you, "I'll meet you there. If I'm too busy knocking heads to notice your arrival, come and get my attention."
You say to Lerenth, "See you there."
    You have entered The Sprawl.
Brutemaster Tarden says, "Don't forget that the city works for us. We don't work for Freeport!"
a rioting basher says, "The Dreadnaughts have had enough!"
Lexa has killed a rioting basher.
Brutemaster Tarden says, "No one from the Militia can boss us around!"
a rioting basher says, "The Dreadnaughts have had enough!"
You have killed a rioting basher.
a rioting brute says, "We've suffered enough of your brutality!"
Lexa has killed a rioting brute.
Modoc the Fist:Modoc the Fist says, "I'll break your bones, runt!"
You have killed a trained hound.
Lexa has killed a trained hound.
Modoc the Fist says, "I yield. But Skalmos will avenge us, and you will know the meaning of pain and regret!"
    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
Lerenth says to you, "And what was the purpose of the Dreadnaughts' riot? They just brought the Militia down on the Sprawl. As often as they cause trouble, you'd think they like being beaten."
You say to Lerenth, "I just hope the city doesn't erupt into turmoil again."
Lerenth says to you, "If they riot in the city again, we'll be back, and next time we won't be so kind."
You say to Lerenth, "I'll be here by your side when it happens."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You gained an Alternate Advancement point.
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 31 Gold, 92 Silver, 81 Copper for completing The Dreadnaught Uprising.
You receive Pulsing Adornment of Intelligence.

Lerenth says to you, "I hate to leave so soon, but I've been summoned to a private meeting with the Lucanic Knights in the back of the Temple of War. I suspect they're going to offer me a position in their ranks. You should meet me there to congratulate me. I could even put in a good word for you."
You say to Lerenth, "I thought only Shadowknights could join the Lucanic Knights?"
Lerenth says to you, "What did you think I was, Lexa? I'm decked in full plate, and my sword has a SKULL on the hilt. Did you take me for a Paladin... or a Troubadour? Ha ha ha... I'm Lerenth, the sassy bard. Ha ha ha..."
You say to Lerenth, "Okay, I get it. I get it! So, what were you saying about this private meeting?"
Lerenth says to you, "I hate to leave so soon, but I've been summoned to a private meeting with the Lucanic Knights in the back of the Temple of War. I suspect they're going to offer me a position in their ranks. You should meet me there to congratulate me. I could even put in a good word for you."
You say to Lerenth, "Sounds good. I'll see you there."
You have entered The City of Freeport.
You have entered a Temple chamber.
    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
Lerenth says to you, "Oh, thank the gods you've arrived. That creepy knight with the glowing eyes is just waiting, staring at me... and that Dreadnaught, Modoc, is here too. What do you think is going on?"
You say to Lerenth, "I'm not sure what's going on."
Lerenth says to you, "Of course, I don't want to blow my chances with the Lucanic Knights. But, before I march up to them, maybe you could go up there and introduce me. And in the process, maybe find out what they want."
You say to Lerenth, "Sure. I'll go find out what they want."
Lerenth says to you, "I knew I could count on you, Lexa."
You say to Lerenth, "I'll be right back."
    You say, "Hail, The Forgotten"
The Forgotten says to you, "Greetings, Lexa. Perhaps you can persuade Lerenth to come forth. He must stand before us for the ceremony."
You say to The Forgotten, "What ceremony? Why have you summoned Lerenth?"
The Forgotten says to you, "The incidents in the Sprawl continue to sow chaos in the City of Freeport. The application of violence by the Militia has only escalated the conflict, amplifying the animosity of the Dreadnaughts. As you know, the greatest crime one can commit in our city is to incite civil unrest."
You say to The Forgotten, "You're implying that Lerenth is responsible for this disorder?"
The Forgotten says to you, "We offer Lerenth an opportunity for redemption. "
You say to The Forgotten, "What do you mean by 'redemption'?"
The Forgotten says to you, "We offer him an opportunity to better serve Freeport. It will be easier if he kneels before us... willingly... but we will use force, if necessary."
You say to The Forgotten, "I'll go talk to him."
    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
Lerenth says to you, "I heard what he said. What do you think is going on?"
You say to Lerenth, "You're in trouble for what happened in the Sprawl, but he's offering you a chance to redeem yourself. That's all I know."
Lerenth says to you, "I'm not walking into a trap, then. Let's get out of here."
You say to Lerenth, "You've come this far. The Forgotten offers you a chance to redeem yourself. If you refuse this gift, everything you worked for will be for naught."
Lerenth says to you, "Oh. Well, of course. I feel a little sheepish for having reservations. Let's go, Lexa."
You say to Lerenth, "After you."
(Larenth walks to the center of the room, to the center of a circle of candles)
The Forgotten says, "You finally chose to join us Lerenth. Good."
The Forgotten says, "Priests of the Dismal Rage, begin the ceremony!"
(one by one, the candles light)
The Forgotten says, "I am afraid this is the end for you, Modoc. Rest well knowing that, in the end, you served your city."
Modoc the Fist says, "NOOOOO! You can't!"
(The Forgotten slays Modoc, and his soul is sucked into the circle and into Larenth)
    Modoc the Fist says, "Auuuuugh!"
(Larenth collapses, then slowly rises, his eyes aglow)
The Forgotten says, "Ah, he survived! Welcome to the privileged few, Lerenth. Welcome to the Wraithguard."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!

  7. ARCHIVED-Iskandar Guest

    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
Lerenth says, "Lexa? I feel... strange."
    You say, "Hail, The Forgotten"
The Forgotten says to you, "You may go now, Lexa. We no longer require your services. If you wish to continue to serve the city, our priestess of the Dismal Rage, Adrianna, is looking into a problem with the undead in the city's graveyard."
You say to The Forgotten, "I'll go see Adrianna in the graveyard."
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You have entered The Graveyard.
The stench of decay surrounds you.
    You say, "Hail, Adrianna"
Adrianna says to you, "I remember you now, Lexa. So you're the one that was sent here to assist me? I must admit that I'm not disappointed, and I don't say that often."
You say to Adrianna, "Is there something I can help you with?"
Adrianna says to you, "I must be brief, Lexa, as this problem leaves no time for pleasantries. The recently interred deceased have arisen, and we're not sure why."
You say to Adrianna, "How does this concern me?"
Adrianna says to you, "I had hoped to deal with them myself, but they are beyond my ability to destroy. Within the past hour, perhaps just by the time I arrived, some of the skeletons and zombies have become aggressive, ravenous even. And they are also impossibly resilient."
You say to Adrianna, "It's strange that the recently deceased would be so much more hostile and dangerous than the ancient undead. It's usually the other way around."
Adrianna says to you, "Though they are beyond my abilities to destroy, they are certainly not beyond yours. Kill them, and bring back pieces of their bodies. With the entrails, bones, and flesh of the manky dreadfuls I hope to determine the source of their sudden surge in strength."
You say to Adrianna, "Is there anyone or anything that won't rise up to threaten Freeport?"
    a ravenous skeleton cackles maniacally.
a ravenous skeleton says, "Vwee hee hee!"
a ravenous skeleton says, "Final death comes at last."
Lexa has killed a ravenous skeleton.
    a ravenous zombie says, "Raaauugh!"
Lexa has killed a ravenous zombie.
    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
Lerenth says to you, "Not my fault. Never. No."
You say to Lerenth, "Is that you, Lerenth?"
Lerenth says to you, "Is that you... Lexa? The pain. I can hardly see through the pain."
You say to Lerenth, "Are you alright?"
Lerenth says to you, "The pain..."
You say to Lerenth, "Maybe Adrianna can help you."
    You say, "Hail, Adrianna"
Adrianna says to you, "I see you've collected the flesh and bones, as I requested. Have you made any observations that might be linked to the rise of the walking dead?"
You say to Adrianna, "Yes, but first and foremost I'm wondering if you can help my friend, Lerenth. He was recently inducted into the Wraithguard and complains of a tremendous agony."
Adrianna says to you, "Wait! A Wraithguard, you say? Tell me more, Lexa, and spare no details!"
You say to Adrianna, "I watched as Lerenth was transformed into a Wraithguard. He's here now, wandering aimlessly. He doesn't seem to be himself. He spoke of pain, and muttered incomprehensible nonsense."
Adrianna says to you, "You must speak to the leader of the Wraithguard, at once! He will know what to do."
You say to Adrianna, "Understood. I'll go speak with The Forgotten."
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, The Forgotten"
The Forgotten says to you, "I assume, based on your demeanor, that you have something important to report."
You say to The Forgotten, "Adrianna urged me to speak with you right away. We found Lerenth in the graveyard, wandering amongst a horde of wild, ravenous undead."
The Forgotten says to you, "I see."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 32 Gold, 85 Silver, 81 Copper for completing Flirting with Death.
You receive Cloak of the Academy.
You discovered Cloak of the Academy.

You say to The Forgotten, "You don't seem surprised."
The Forgotten says to you, "This is not entirely unexpected. The process to convert one into a Wraithguard is... imperfect. More often than not it destroys the recipient."
You say to The Forgotten, "I thought the conversion was a success?"
The Forgotten says to you, "True, Lerenth was not destroyed, but he is... damaged. This was not apparent at the moment of his transformation."
You say to The Forgotten, "And what of the undead in the graveyard?"
The Forgotten says to you, "You must understand that we have tried many times to create new Wraithguards."
You say to The Forgotten, "By the gods. You mean to tell me that those undead were the Wraithguards that didn't make it?"
The Forgotten says to you, "Yes."
You say to The Forgotten, "So, what must be done?"
The Forgotten says to you, "Lerenth's presence is clearly agitating the undead. He must not be allowed to roam free for long. I need you to speak to representatives of the Academy of Arcane Science and the Dismal Rage. One of these groups should be able to assist us in capturing or destroying him."
You say to The Forgotten, "I'll speak with Micha and Adrianna. I met them briefly while distributing weaponry for the Coalition of Tradesfolke."
    You say, "Hail, Micha Longtail"
Micha Longtail says to you, "You have come here with purr-pose, haven't you?"
You say to Micha Longtail, "The Forgotten sent me to ask for your assistance..."
Micha Longtail says to you, "Of course. We're still working around the clock to perfect the process. At our present rate of analysis and experimentation, I suspect we'll be able to double the success rate of the Wraithguard transformations within two moons' turns."
You say to Micha Longtail, "That's interesting, but that's not why I'm here."
Micha Longtail says to you, "Oh, but I thought you were sent here by The Forgotten?"
You say to Micha Longtail, "The Wraithguard I came to discuss is not The Forgotten. It's a newly created Wraithguard who has gone rogue."
Micha Longtail says to you, "So you're saying he's gone, but not forgotten?"
You say to Micha Longtail, "Very funny. At any rate, he survived the transformation process, but is now confused and running amok. I need to know if you can help capture or destroy him."
Micha Longtail says to you, "It is no simple thing to destroy a Wraithguard. No. It would be more prudent, and simpler to fix him. Except..."
You say to Micha Longtail, "Except what?"
Micha Longtail says to you, "Except we need more data, and we've exhausted our supply of test subjects. It will be impossible to continue without more bodies. Using the authority of the Wraithguard, you should be able to commission another batch of test subjects from the Scale Yard."
You say to Micha Longtail, "Fair enough. I'll go get a batch of test subjects for you."
    You say, "Hail, Adrianna"
Adrianna says to you, "Ah! Welcome back, Lexa. I have need for your... particular... and, er, discreet... talents again. You must undertake a most important mission for me."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 1950 experience into AA experience!
You receive 12 Gold, 77 Silver, 32 Copper for completing Arcane Science Versus Dark Faith.
You receive a Small Ornate Freeport Bookcase.
You discovered a Small Ornate Freeport Bookcase.

You say to Adrianna, "Hello again, Adrianna. I am, naturally, at your service."
Adrianna says to you, "Lurking somewhere amongst the good citizens of Freeport is a group that dares to challenge the mystical might of the Dismal Rage. I need someone to infiltrate their ranks, locate their den, and uncover their motivations. I wish to quell this uprising before it gains any more momentum. Bring the information to me, and then we will bring them to their knees!"
You say to Adrianna, "Do you have any clues as to how to find this secret society?"
Adrianna says to you, "The only information we have so far is that they identify themselves by donning cowls. Do not mistake them for the Red Hoods, as the cowls worn by the cultists are milky white. Now, go! The sooner we root out these troublemakers, the sooner we can devote resources to locating and destroying Lerenth."
You say to Adrianna, "Look for the white cowls? Got it."
    You say, "Hail, Sabina Thallis"
Sabina Thallis says to you, "Come to have a look at my pretties, adventurer? Only the finest in the city, my friend, only the choicest baubles... all guaranteed genuine treasures, and I'm willing to sell them at a powerful bargain! Now, what's your fancy?"
You say to Sabina Thallis, "I'm looking for a good warm cowl. In fact, I'd be willing to buy the one you're wearing now."
Sabina Thallis says to you, "Oh, this old rag? No, no, it's not for sale, seeing as how I need it to ward off the cold coastal breeze. I've got some other lovely gems I'm sure you'd be interested in."
You say to Sabina Thallis, "I'm not here to skim your wares, but I AM here to find out why you wear that white cowl! I have friends who are most interested in its significance."
Sabina Thallis says to you, "Well, they're clearly no friends of mine then, are they? And I fail to see what this has to do with me. I'm a simple jeweler. I don't know what you're talking about, and you can take that to your 'friends.'"
You say to Sabina Thallis, "Stop pretending you don't know what I'm after, or I'll take your severed limbs to my 'friends.'"
Sabina Thallis says to you, "Hold it, friend! I'm not looking for a fight. I'll give you the cowl if you want it so badly!"
You say to Sabina Thallis, "I thought you'd see things my way. Tell no one of our little chat, or I'll come back for your head."
    You receive a white cowl.
    You discovered a white cowl.
    (equip the cowl)
a cowled figure says, "Greetings, sister."
a cowled figure says, "Never mind. You're not who I thought you were."
You have killed a cowled figure.
You loot implicating document from the Small Chest of a cowled figure.
a cowled figure says, "Greetings, sister."
a cowled figure says, "Wait, you're not one of the brotherhood!"
Lexa has killed a cowled figure.
You loot cultist's password from the Small Chest of a cowled figure.
a cowled figure says, "Greetings, sister."
a cowled figure says, "Err... I'm afraid I must be going."
You have killed a cowled figure.
You loot cultist's medallion from the Small Chest of a cowled figure.
    You say, "Hail, Livilla Ramio"
Livilla Ramio says to you, "Ah, one of our new recruits, I presume? I see you have your medallion. Be careful not to display it prominently, my friend. Rumors have come to my ears that the demon priestess, Adrianna, is out for our blood, and you do not want to make yourself a target."
You say to Livilla Ramio, "Interesting. What else have you heard? "
Livilla Ramio says to you, "Keep your voice down! Mark my words, spies from the Dismal Rage are all around us, and we must be alert for impostors. Though if we find one, he will not live long enough to betray us!"
You say to Livilla Ramio, "Of course. Tell me, quietly, about this 'demon priestess' Adrianna."
Livilla Ramio says to you, "Rejoice, friend. I have heard that the Dismal Rage is petrified with fear, and for good reason. We have learned of a spell that we can use to destroy their creations. We call it 'Annihilate the Unnatural.'"
You say to Livilla Ramio, "Indeed, indeed. Let us retire to our meeting place to discuss this further, where there is less chance of eavesdroppers."
Livilla Ramio says to you, "Why are you so insistent that we go to the meeting now? Perhaps you do not know as much as you pretend, friend. You wear the cowl and bear an owl medallion, but you are a bit too eager..."
You say to Livilla Ramio, "I'm merely concerned for our safety. Allow me the privilege of safeguarding the location of the meeting. Those who hunt for us would never suspect a new recruit of carrying such important information."
Livilla Ramio says to you, "This is a good plan, friend. I entrust to you this map of our lair, and you must safeguard it until the meeting tonight. All the markings are not on it, for fear that it could fall into the wrong hands. However, the wisest owl eyes will infer where we'll be meeting. See you there."
You say to Livilla Ramio, "I will not fail you, sister. Goodbye."
    You receive cultist's map.
    You say, "Hail, Adrianna"
Adrianna says to you, "I have been awaiting your return, Lexa. What have you learned? Were you able to contact the cult that dares to challenge the Dismal Rage, and by extension, Overlord Lucan D'Lere himself?"
You say to Adrianna, "I learned much and more, m'lady. The cult is hiding somewhere in the sewers, which I have discovered by way of this map."
Adrianna says to you, "By Innoruuk's claws, we have them now! However... according to the map you recovered, it is not entirely clear where in the sewers the little rats are hiding. What else did you learn?"
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 30 Gold, 91 Silver, 81 Copper for completing White Cowls, Black Hearts.
You receive an Ornate Freeport Floor Lamp.
You discovered an Ornate Freeport Floor Lamp.
  8. ARCHIVED-Iskandar Guest

You say to Adrianna, "They said they seek to destroy the unnatural creations of the Dismal Rage."
Adrianna says to you, "Hah, the little sewer rats believe they can destroy a Wraithguard? Let's see them try! Only Lucan has such power. Now, what else did you learn?"
You say to Adrianna, "You speak of rats, but the cultists see themselves as owls. I recovered this scrap of paper with the word 'Strix,' and this medallion depicting an owl."
Adrianna says to you, "Hah, they give themselves too much credit. I've never known any self-respecting owl to crawl about in muck and filth! At any rate, this knowledge will come in handy, no doubt, when you find their sewer lair and pose as one of the cultists."
You say to Adrianna, "I suppose you want me to scour the sewers until I find them? What should I look for?"
Adrianna says to you, "I can't narrow down your search, but I know someone who can. Speak to Atianoo Donicus and she will point you to the cult's most likely hiding places. You can probably find her drinking in or near the Jade Tiger's Den. When you've located these Strix traitors, talk to them, participate in their meeting, and listen in on their discussions. I'd like to know they've learned first, before we destroy these 'owls.'"
You say to Adrianna, "These 'owls' will regret their treachery."
You already have a white cowl and cannot have another.
    You say, "Hail, Atianoo Donicus"
Atianoo Donicus says to you, "Yes, what is it?"
You say to Atianoo Donicus, "I'm looking for some traitors who are hiding in the sewers. I was told that you'd be able to help me."
Atianoo Donicus says to you, "Adrianna sent you, did she? She will never let me forget. I suppose only death will truly free me from the implications of cowardice."
You say to Atianoo Donicus, "What do you mean? She made no such implications to me."
:Atianoo Donicus says to you, "When Lucan was kidnapped, when fighting broke out in the city, when the streets erupted into bloodshed, I hid. I hid in the sewers until Lucan's return, when stability was restored."
You say to Atianoo Donicus, "Ah, and that's how you know your way around the sewers."
Atianoo Donicus says to you, "Of course. Let me see your map. There are sections of the sewers that have been lost for hundreds of years, places where you could hide without much chance of being found or followed. Try searching this forgotten cesspool, the Deadpools, or... the Shadowhand Crypt. The Deadpools are accessible from the city graveyard, while the other two are connected to Freeport proper."
You say to Atianoo Donicus, "Thank you, Atianoo."
You have entered A Forgotten Cesspool.
    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
    Lerenth says to you, "Raaaaaaauuuugh!"
You say to Lerenth, "Lerenth? How did you get down here?"
Lerenth says to you, "Grrr... Raaaugh! GRAAAAAUUUGH!"
You say to Lerenth, "You're really not yourself, are you? I should look into this."
You have entered The City of Freeport.

(I have two separate quests here, so there's a bit of crossover)
You have entered Scale Yard: Traitors' End.
You say, "Hail, Zillik, the Overseer"
Zillik, the Overseer says to you, "Unity in Lucan, citizen. How can I assist you?"
You say to Zillik, the Overseer, "Greetings, Overseer. I'm here under the authority of the Wraithguard. We require a batch of test subjects."
Zillik, the Overseer says to you, "Ah, you've come to pick up a batch of prisoners. That's not a good idea."
You say to Zillik, the Overseer, "What makes you say that?"
Zillik, the Overseer says to you, "If you'll forgive the metaphor, the low- hanging fruit has already been plucked. Most of the prisoners left here are quick, wiry, and dangerous. Not only that, but they know that those who are carted out of here are never heard from again, so they're understandably reluctant to be led away."
You say to Zillik, the Overseer, "Are you defying the Wraithguard?"
Zillik, the Overseer says to you, "On the contrary, I'll stay out of your way and you can do anything you want, just don't expect any assistance from me or my guards. Our job is to keep the prisoners here, not to let them go. That said, if you want to bring them back to me, submissive and in one piece, I'll have them shipped over to the Academy of Arcane Science. Look for the ones wearing orange."
You say to Zillik, the Overseer, "Fine. I'll get them myself."
a beaten prisoner says, "Tell me everything is going to be okay."
Zillik, the Overseer says, "I'll make sure this one is sent over to the Academy, right away."
a beaten prisoner says, "I'll go with you. Just please don't hurt me."
Zillik, the Overseer says, "I'll make sure this one is sent over to the Academy, right away."
a beaten prisoner says, "This doesn't feel right."
Zillik, the Overseer says, "Very good. Keep them coming."
an erudite prisoner says, "I put away my weapon! Please don't kill me."
Zillik, the Overseer says, "I'll make sure this one is sent over to the Academy, right away."
You say, "Hail, Zillik, the Overseer"
Zillik, the Overseer says to you, "That should be enough prisoners to keep the bookends at the Academy of Arcane Science busy for awhile. I hope none of them bit you."
You say to Zillik, the Overseer, "I'm none the worse for wear."
Zillik, the Overseer says to you, "Well, I'm glad to hear it. Take care."
You say to Zillik, the Overseer, "Thank you for your understanding."
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Micha Longtail"
Micha Longtail says to you, "Greetings, Lexa. The batch of test subjects has been delivered. In fact, it arrived shortly before you did. I must say, I'm impressed with our efficiency."
You say to Micha Longtail, "Don't underestimate the difficulty of my work, even if it looks easy from your perspective."
Micha Longtail says to you, "Don't worry, Lexa. I do appreciate the work you've done for the Academy, and you will be well-rewarded."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 6734 experience into AA experience!
You receive 29 Gold, 86 Silver, 88 Copper for completing Gone, But Not Forgotten.
You receive Pulsing Adornment of Intelligence.

You say to Micha Longtail, "And more importantly, now you can help me find a way to save Lerenth."
Micha Longtail says to you, "Unfortunately, no. My assistants are preparing the test subjects as we speak, but I'm afraid they are not quite the quality I had hoped for."
You say to Micha Longtail, "What's wrong with them? They seemed hardy enough to me."
Micha Longtail says to you, "They were not treated well in the Scale Yard. Many are sick, malnourished, and are therefore not likely to survive long enough for us to get any meaningful testing data. We're going to need healthy subjects."
You say to Micha Longtail, "What did you have in mind?"
Micha Longtail says to you, "I don't like dealing with the Seafury Buccaneers, but I fear we have no other choice. Please find out how much it would cost us to commission an order of slaves... from wherever they come from."
You say to Micha Longtail, "I'll go speak with Kal'ril, at the docks."
    You say, "Hail, Kal'ril Nightstalker"
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "Always happy to see you, Lexa. Have you come here for the pleasure of my company?"
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "No, actually. I'm here on behalf of the Academy of Arcane Science. Theoretically speaking, how much would it cost them to requisition a ship full of slaves?"
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "Are you mad? Are you absolutely mad? To insinuate that we'd be involved in slave-trading is nothing short of insulting. Get out of here."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "Wait, I could have sworn you talked about providing slaves to the Coalition of Tradesfolke."
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "Look. If the Academy really needs bodies and isn't shy about the price, then go deal with the Valorous Companions. They are one of the last private trading companies in the city. You can usually find them around the Overlord's Perch. Take them this note from me, so that they know you're a trusted friend."
You receive Note to the Valorous Companions.
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "Alright. I'll take them the note."
    You say, "Hail, Ulthus Greygore"
Ulthus Greygore says to you, "What business do you have with the Valorous Companions? I've always got time for business."
You say to Ulthus Greygore, "I brought you this note from Kal'ril. He recommended that I deal with the Valorous Companions."
Ulthus Greygore says to you, "..."
You say to Ulthus Greygore, "[let him finish reading]"
Ulthus Greygore says to you, "Really. Are you serious?"
You say to Ulthus Greygore, "What does the note say?"
Ulthus Greygore says to you, "It reads, "To Lexa: If you can kill Ulthus Greygore, we will seriously consider your previous offer. To Ulthus Greygore: if you can kill Lexa, we will cease our hostilities against the Valorous Companions. Good hunting, Siren.""
You say to Ulthus Greygore, "Well, it's either you or me!"
Ulthus Greygore says, "My comrades will avenge my death!"
    Lexa has killed Ulthus Greygore.
    You say, "Hail, Kal'ril Nightstalker"
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "Looks like you're still alive, Lexa."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "No thanks to you."
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "I'll explain the details later. Suffice it to say, you've passed our test, and all that's left to do is mop up the rest of the Valorous Companions, and then we'll get underway."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "Alright, I'll go finish what I've started."
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "Good. There are a handful of the swashbuckling types out in the Commonlands, but the rest can be found here in the city. Give them all a good dirt nap."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "I'll go take care of them."
Lexa has killed a seafaring trader.
You have killed a seafaring trader.
You have killed a seafaring trader.
a seafaring raider says, "I'll cut out your guts and feed 'em to the fish!"
    a seafaring raider says, "Yaarrrrg!"
    You say, "Hail, Kal'ril Nightstalker"
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "You've taken care of the Valorous Companions, then?"
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "They're all dirt-napped, as you requested."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 32 Gold, 86 Silver, 80 Copper for completing The Cost of Doing Business.
You receive a lion's palm table.
  9. ARCHIVED-Iskandar Guest

Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "Great. Then let's get underway. Take the rowboat to our ship and we'll set sail immediately."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "I'm ready when you are."
    You have entered Slaver's Isle.
    (Kill em all! /cackle)

You have killed a dervish slaver.
You have killed a dervish slaver.
You have killed a dervish slaver.
You have killed a Rujarkian brute.
Kal'ril Nightstalker says, "Thanks to you, this trip may be profitable after all."
Seven Toes Krung says, "Hah! I knew there was a reason Kal'ril brought you along."
a Rujarkian spiritist says in Orcish, "I'll get these. You start boiling the pot!"
Lexa has killed a Rujarkian spiritist.
a dervish slaver says, "Someone get some help, fast!"
Lexa has killed a dervish slaver.
a Rujarkian brute says in Orcish, "There are too many! We must regroup."
Lexa has killed a Rujarkian brute.
    You have killed Chukka Firefist.
You try to open the door but it appears locked!
Kal'ril Nightstalker says, "The door's locked, eh? I have an idea."
Kal'ril Nightstalker says, "You're familiar with Ol' Rusty Hatchet port? It's got other uses, aside from getting one's whistle wet. Watch this!"
Kal'ril Nightstalker says, "Hey, slaver scum. Catch this!"
Kal'ril Nightstalker says, "Ha! Now get down there and finish the job."
Seven Toes Krung says, "Nice work, Kal'ril. I'll buy you a drink when we get back to Freeport."
a Rujarkian spiritist says in Orcish, "I cannot hold them much longer."
You have killed a Rujarkian spiritist.
a Rujarkian brute says in Orcish, "Here comes dinner."
Lexa has killed a Rujarkian brute.
a dervish slaver says, "Make sure they die quietly!"
You have killed a dervish slaver.
a seafury buccaneer says, "One more tumbler... Got it!"
a half elf slave says, "Please, I'm so thirsty."
a halfling slave says, "I'm getting out of here!"
a human slave says, "I thought I'd never get out of this place!"
a human slave says, "Get me out of this hole."
a gnome slave says, "I'll see you topside!"
a human slave says, "Have you come here to save us?"
a half elf slave says, "It's about time someone came to get us off of this rock."
a human slave says, "I thought I'd never get out of this place!"
a seafury buccaneer says, "I've got the cells open. Let's get the goods, and get out of here."
(no wood elf slaves for my wood elf necro to... uhh... "rescue?")
    You say, "Hail, Kal'ril Nightstalker"
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "We're loaded with living cargo. Now let's get out of here."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "I'm ready when you are."
Kal'ril Nightstalker says to you, "You've done well, Lexa. This little venture has been profitable for everyone."
You say to Kal'ril Nightstalker, "I look forward to reaping the benefits."
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Micha Longtail"
Micha Longtail says to you, "I have fabulous news to report. How about you, Lexa?"
You say to Micha Longtail, "I was able to help the Seafury Buccaneers recover a batch of test subjects for your research."
Micha Longtail says to you, "Then it truly is a red letter day, is it not? We believe we have determined how to fix your friend Lerenth."
You say to Micha Longtail, "I'm glad to hear it. How would that be accomplished?"
Micha Longtail says to you, "Ah, you ask how, but this is a dead end. The appropriate question is not 'how?' but 'why?' Lerenth is unpredictable because he retains a fragment of his humanity. This reminder of his previous existence, this memory of his life as a mere mortal, has driven him to madness."
You say to Micha Longtail, "So we excise what remains of his memory of his previous life, and he'll be 'normal'?"
Micha Longtail says to you, "Yes. Once he has forgotten who he was, he will become a true Wraithguard. And please heed my advice, the cost of successfully creating one such as him is immeasurable. You are better off saving him than destroying him."
You say to Micha Longtail, "Yes, on that subject, have you made any progress in perfecting the process of creating a Wraithguard?"
Micha Longtail says to you, "Not much progress has been made, I'm afraid. The test subjects you have provided will certainly help, but at our present rate of discovery it will be quite some time before we can perform the procedure with any reliability."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 32 Gold, 94 Silver, 81 Copper for completing Set Sail for Slaver's Isle.

You receive an Ornate Freeport Sandstone Bench.
You discovered an Ornate Freeport Sandstone Bench.

You say to Micha Longtail, "So what should I do next?"
Micha Longtail says to you, "I hear you're still working on another task for The Forgotten, aren't you? Something involving those fanatics of the Dismal Rage. I suppose you'll need to take care of that first."
You say to Micha Longtail, "Oh yeah. I'll get back to that."
    You have entered The Graveyard.
    You have entered The Deadpools.
This body was brutally hacked up. These are the same wounds that the ratonga in the Forgotten Cesspool suffered at Lerenth's hand.
    You have entered The Graveyard.
You have entered The City of Freeport.
You have entered The Shadowhand Crypt.
    You say, "Hail, Doorman Janus"
Doorman Janus says to you, "Welcome to the Strix Presidium, friend. Go on inside. The meeting is starting up soon."
You say to Doorman Janus, "Why is the meeting being held in the Shadowhand Crypt?"
Doorman Janus says to you, "Because we're not likely to be bothered here, primarily. An operation this delicate requires us to be discreet."
You say to Doorman Janus, "I understand. Thank you, brother."
:a cult enforcer says, "Greetings, fellow sister of the Strix."
You say, "Hail, A distressed cultist"
a distressed cultist says to you, "Watch out, friend! You almost ran into me."
You say to a distressed cultist, "Sorry, I was preoccupied with the stories I've heard about the Wraithguard."
a distressed cultist says to you, "Indeed, that is a worry to us all. Why, only last week, Brother Aldred - who suffers from a weak heart - almost was clawed to death while on the way to a Strix meeting by a monstrous hulking beast who lurked in these sewers."
You say to a distressed cultist, "Who do you think it was?"
a distressed cultist says to you, "Well, there are all manner of beasts that make the sewers their home, but Aldred swore that even in the dark he could see a pair of haunting blue eyes. It must have been a Wraithguard. Let this be a lesson to Lucan's plotting: interfering in the paths of the dead only brings ruin."
You say to a distressed cultist, "I hope brother Aldred is on the mend."
a distressed cultist says to you, "He did escape, indeed, though not unscathed. He has set down his story, and others like it, in our scrolls kept in the western antechamber. I'm sure he'd be happy to let you see them, if you like."
You say to a distressed cultist, "That's alright. I don't need to read the report. Thank you for your time."
You say, "Hail, A distressed cultist"
a distressed cultist says to you, "Something I can do for you, child?"
You say to a distressed cultist, "I hear there's a Wraithguard wandering around the sewers."
a distressed cultist says to you, "A Wraithguard? Yes, we have feared this for a long time. The evil magic that transforms a body into the undead form takes a terrible toll."
You say to a distressed cultist, "Might he be in some kind of pain that drives him to madness?"
a distressed cultist says to you, "I have no doubt. We have brothers of the Strix Presidium who swear they have seen a slavering, rabid, half-man howling deep in the waterways of the sewers, and his terrible cries echo off our walls. This is indisputable proof of the evils of making Wraithguard."
You say to a distressed cultist, "Thanks for the information."
You say, "Hail, A distressed cultist"
a distressed cultist says to you, "Off to the meeting?"
You say to a distressed cultist, "Could you tell me about the Wraithguard lurking in the sewers?"
a distressed cultist says to you, "Oh! Just the thought of it makes my skin crawl. I've had nightmares ever since I witnessed a Wraithguard hacking and tearing at a corpse. Thankfully his attention was focused on his grim butchery and I was able to escape. Others have not been so lucky."
You say to a distressed cultist, "That is fortunate for you."
You say, "Hail, A distressed cultist"
a distressed cultist says, "I've had nightmares ever since I witnessed a Wraithguard hacking and tearing at a corpse. It was ghastly."
Speaker R'tanan says, "We welcome all our brethren Death to the meeting of the Strix Presidium, the Owl Guardians of True."
Speaker R'tanan says, "You all know why we are here: to find a way to undo the terrible work of Lucan and his priest puppets, the Dismal Rage."
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Terrible!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Terrible!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Terrible!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Terrible!"
Speaker R'tanan says, "Their creation of the Wraithguard is unnatural, it is infernal, and it must be stopped!"
    an eager cultist says, "Hoot!"
an eager cultist says, "Unnatural! Unnatural!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Unnatural!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Unnatural!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Unnatural!"
an eager cultist says, "So unnatural!"
Speaker R'tanan says, "There is Life, and there is Death, but they are neither, and thus an offense to the gods."
Speaker R'tanan says, "Our owl signifies the True Death that we must bring these aberrations."
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Aberrations!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Aberrations!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Aberrations!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Aberrations!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! HOOT! Aberrations!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Aberrations!"
Speaker R'tanan says, "Through dedicated research of ancient scrolls of magic -- lost in the Shattering, but recovered down in the dank deeps -- we have the means to Annihilate the Unnatural."
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Very fragile, these old scrolls!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! Fortune smiled upon the Strix!"
Speaker R'tanan says, "We will begin with the Wraithguard that stalks us even now, crawling through the sewers."
Speaker R'tanan says, "Brothers and sisters, fellow Strix, rejoice! For the reckoning is close at hand!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! HOOT!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! HOOT! HOOT!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! HOOT!"
an eager cultist says, "Hoot! Hoot! HOOT!"

You say, "Hail, An eager cultist"
an eager cultist says, "The reckoning is at hand!"
You say, "Hail, An eager cultist"
an eager cultist says, "The Strix will destroy the Wraithguard!"
    You say, "Hail, Speaker R'tanan"
Speaker R'tanan says, "Welcome, friend, to the Strix Presidium."
a cult enforcer says, "Greetings, fellow sister of the Strix."
(oh, these clowns have sooooooooooooo got to die!)
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Adrianna"
Adrianna says to you, "I am glad you are back, Lexa. What have you found out about this owl cult? And what of their nefarious plans?"
You say to Adrianna, "Before we get to that, Adrianna, I have a matter of some urgency. I found Lerenth again. This time he was in the sewers."
Adrianna says to you, "Oh ho! So that's where he's been. We have been unable to track him down, and were worried he would slip away completely."
You say to Adrianna, "Yes, and he's been terrorizing the cultists, and pretty much everyone else. It's one of the reasons why they're mobilizing against the Wraithguard."
Adrianna says to you, "This explains much. Thank you, Lexa. And I find it difficult to disagree with the Strix cult. Lerenth must be destroyed, only we will be the ones to do it."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!

You say to Adrianna, "Glad you found it useful. Now about those cultists..."
Adrianna says to you, "What have you learned about this owl cult? And what of their nefarious plans?"
You say to Adrianna, "They wish to challenge the making of the Wraithguard, and to destroy those who are already in existence."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!

You discovered The Overlord's Watchful Eye.
Lexa discovered The Overlord's Watchful Eye.

Adrianna says to you, "You have done excellent work, Lexa! And as fortune would have it, it looks like our goals align. You came to me looking for a way to destroy a Wraithguard, and this cult claims to have it. Let us kill two birds with one stone. Wait, no... let us kill ALL the birds!"
You say to Adrianna, "Very clever, Adrianna. I will kill the cultists and procure their research."
You receive 1 a white cowl.
You have entered The Shadowhand Crypt.
a cult enforcer says, "Greetings, fellow sister of the Strix."
You say, "Hail, A distressed cultist"
a distressed cultist says, "Interfering in the paths of the dead only brings ruin."
Lexa has killed a distressed cultist.
an eager cultist says, "The Owl Guardians of True will bring death to you!"
You have killed an eager cultist.
You have killed an eager cultist.
an eager cultist says, "We've been infiltrated!"
Speaker R'tanan says, "Friends, we have a pretender among us!"
    You have killed Speaker R'tanan.
Lexa has killed a cult enforcer.
Doorman Janus says, "We've got an intruder!"
    You have killed Doorman Janus.
    (Lexa is VERY happy now!)
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Adrianna"
Adrianna says to you, "Have you returned with the owls' magic? Have you killed all the birds?"
You say to Adrianna, "The bodies of the Strix cultists are rotting in the sewers as we speak. Here are the scrolls detailing their methods of destroying the Wraithguard."
Adrianna says to you, "Haha! Let this be a lesson to all traitors: the priests of the Dismal Rage are not to be trifled with. Interfere with us at your own peril! Now, allow me to take a look at these scrolls."
You say to Adrianna, "I hope this is what The Forgotten needs."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 32 Gold, 91 Silver, 83 Copper for completing Killing All the Birds.
You receive Pulsing Adornment of Intelligence.

Adrianna says to you, "Oh. Oh my. This is very old magic. No, this would never... well, I suppose it would work. This could strike down a Wraithguard. Of course, he'd need to be weakened first. But... where exactly did the owls FIND this?"
You say to Adrianna, "In the sewers, I think. Their speaker mentioned finding it in the dank deeps."
Adrianna says to you, "Hah. They stumbled across these scrolls purely by happenstance? How deliciously serendipitous."
You say to Adrianna, "So now that we have this magic, I'll go speak to The Forgotten."
Adrianna says to you, "Yes. Speak to The Forgotten, at once. And I urge you, when the time comes, to annihilate this errant Wraithguard without hesitation. He must be destroyed before he creates more chaos in our city."
You say to Adrianna, "I will destroy him without hesitation."
    You say, "Hail, The Forgotten"
The Forgotten says to you, "There is no time for idle chatter, Lexa. We have a... problem."
You say to The Forgotten, "I'm not here for idle chatter. I have the information you needed from the Academy and the Dismal Rage."
The Forgotten says to you, "Details of your dealings with the Academy and Dismal Rage will have to wait. There has been an incident."
You say to The Forgotten, "Let me guess: a newly created Wraithguard is stirring up trouble. So what did Lerenth do this time? Slay more cultists? Is he leading a pack of ravenous undead?"
The Forgotten says to you, "I'm afraid it's worse."
You say to The Forgotten, "How could it possibly get any worse?"
The Forgotten says to you, "I have received word from the Lucanic Knights that citizens, otherwise innocent Freeport citizens, have been captured by one of the Wraithguard. You must understand that this incident could undo all of our work."
You say to The Forgotten, "So why don't you deal with it? Both the Academy and the Dismal Rage came up with methods to handle a Wraithguard."
The Forgotten says to you, "I cannot destroy Lerenth without destroying myself in the process, and we cannot let the methods to kill a Wraithguard fall into the wrong hands. You must do this."
You say to The Forgotten, "Oh, I see. So what's the problem?"
The Forgotten says to you, "Lerenth has several Freeport citizens holed up in the sewers. He will likely kill them all, if he hasn't already. We can presume that the Lucanic Knights who were sent to deal with the problem are already dead."
You say to The Forgotten, "Okay. How will I find him?"
The Forgotten says to you, "Just follow the corpses."
You say to The Forgotten, "I'll deal with him."
You have entered A Stinking Stormdrain.
Lerenth says, "Raaaaaaauuuugh! The pain... the pain!"
    Lerenth doesn't respond.
    Mirowi Burrah says, "No... please."
    Mirowi Burrah says, "Stay away."
Mirowi Burrah says, "Stay away from me!"
    Mirowi Burrah says, "Please!"
    Mirowi Burrah says, "Aaaugh!"

Lerenth says, "Can't... stop... the pain!"
("kill" Lerenth and he comes back each time)
    Lerenth says, "No! NO. NOOOO!"
Adrianna says, "Come here, quickly! I have something for you!"
Lerenth says, "Please... kill me. Release me..."
Micha Longtail says, "I hope I'm not too late. I've brought the means to restore Lerenth!"
(I chose to "save" Lerenth instead of destroy him, since the Wraithguard are valuable to my Overlord... hailing Adrianna may produce different results and/or dialogue)
    You say, "Hail, Micha Longtail"
Micha Longtail says, "Please restore him, Lexa. Use this wand on Lerenth when he is weakened!"
    Lerenth says, "No! NO. NOOOO!"
You use the Wand of Memory Blur.
    You say, "Hail, Lerenth"
Lerenth says, "There is no more pain."

    You say, "Hail, The Forgotten"
The Forgotten says to you, "You have returned. I trust Lerenth will no longer be a problem?"
You say to The Forgotten, "No. Lerenth will no longer be a threat to Freeport."
The Forgotten says to you, "Good. Now, I encourage you to forget all that you've seen while in my employ."
You say to The Forgotten, "The memories of the past sometimes do more harm than good, don't they?"
The Forgotten says to you, "Yes. And we Wraithguard understand this best of all. 'Tis easier forgetting, and being forgotten."
You say to The Forgotten, "That's what drove Lerenth mad - he couldn't let go of his past."
The Forgotten says to you, "I do not know where your adventures will take you next, but they should be far away from here. May we never speak to each other again, Lexa."
You say to The Forgotten, "Maybe I'll see what that crazy old salt, Kain Starkson, is up to."

    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "I be three sheets to the wind, lad. Toss down some silvers and we'll split a bottle o' rum!"
You say to Kain Starkson, "Drowning your troubles in ale? Such a waste."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Aye, and what of it? A man needs a calling, else he's lost. Taken from me, mine was... taken most cruelly."
You say to Kain Starkson, "You'd not be telling me this unless you wanted something. Out with it, old man."
Kain Starkson says to you, "There be somethin' amiss in Freeport, or hadn't ye noticed? Aye, the Overlord's done wonders cleanin' up th' city proper, and straightenin' out th' common thugs. But there be another side to these changes; a side as has folk unnerved and affright to speak of."
You say to Kain Starkson, "You choose your words carefully. Are you suggesting that you have knowledge of dissension against Lucan?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Ye misunderstand me. There's dissension as well, Qeynos sympathizin' and whatnot, but there be plenty o' honest folk wronged by the changes here too. O' course, it now be blasphemy ta speak o' such things."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Blasphemy indeed. I should summon the guards to haul you off right now."
Kain Starkson says to you, "How daft must ye be? Speak o' this to the guards, and we'll both be cast in irons. Or mayhap just you will. My honor's not so great as I wouldn't turn yer tattling right around on ye."
You say to Kain Starkson, "So that's how it is. Well what is it you wanted from me to begin with?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "I can hardly trust ye now, can I? But mayhap we can still help each other. I be puttin' together a crew, and would appreciate an honest lad such as yerself sizin' em up fer me."
You say to Kain Starkson, "I suppose speaking to a few folks wouldn't hurt. What's in it for me?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Why, gold o' course! An yer not likely to have to see me face round here again. Ye can't go wrong with this task."
You say to Kain Starkson, "All right, I'll speak to these men. You tread a fine line, old man."
Kain Starkson says to you, "There's a smart lad. I'll note down their names and locations in that journal ye have there. Ah, don't look so surprised; of course I can read an' write! A ship's captain has ta draft an decipher charts, after all."
You say to Kain Starkson, "A captain? Interesting..."
    You say, "Hail, Durog Malthese"
Durog Malthese says to you, "Concentrate hard enough, and you can see the storm clouds on the horizon."
You say to Durog Malthese, "Are you sure? I can't see any from here."
Durog Malthese says to you, "Look not with your eyes alone. Let the low rumble in the breeze fill your ears. Feel the moisture as it touches your skin. Taste the salt that the maelstrom has bestirred."
You say to Durog Malthese, "You're awfully well-spoken for an ogre. Why are you so interested in storms?"
Durog Malthese says to you, "Durog was raised by humans, so the speech comes easily to him. From the time he was little, he sailed the seas, and always the storm clouds were his companions."
You say to Durog Malthese, "Are you saying you sailed the open ocean when you were a child?? That would have been impossible."
Durog Malthese says to you, "Difficult, yes, but not impossible. There are those who have learned to navigate the storms by becoming one with them. Tell Durog... have you ever braved a true storm?"
You say to Durog Malthese, "Well I've certainly never sailed in one. The seas have only recently become fit for travel."
Durog Malthese says to you, "You'd best prepare yourself then. There is always another storm on the horizon..."
You say to Durog Malthese, "I'll keep that in mind."
    You say, "Hail, Brand Narson"
Brand Narson says to you, "You've the look of a man 'bout to disturb me fishing."
You say to Brand Narson, "Only for a moment. Have you always been a fisherman?"
Brand Narson says to you, "Not long, as the tide turns. A bos'n I was, on a trading galley. But the Seafuries took her over, and filled her with their own men. And what do you do now?"
You say to Brand Narson, "What do you mean "now"? I was not a sailor."
Brand Narson says to you, "I mean now that Lucan has closed his iron fist. There's many folk has had to find new trades of late. He's restored order to Freeport, but at what cost?"
You say to Brand Narson, "Is it his judgment you question, or his honor?"
Brand Narson says to you, "Now don't get all a'huff. I bow to the Overlord like any honest citizen. I'm merely tellin' ye what I hear round the taverns."
You say to Brand Narson, "Then you'd best keep such prattle to yourself, fisherman."
    You say, "Hail, Tall Jim"
Tall Jim says to you, "Whaddaya want, buddy?"
You say to Tall Jim, "I'd like to know how you feel about the recent changes to Freeport."
Tall Jim says to you, "Wow; straightforward. What are you, some kinda snitch? If I don't get all googley-eyed about what a great leader Lucan is, you gonna call the guards on me?"
You say to Tall Jim, "I didn't mean to offend you, I was merely curious. Obviously you support the Overlord, I simply wondered if you felt there was room for improvement in Freeport."
Tall Jim says to you, "So, you're smarter than you look. That's good; you'll need to choose your words carefully 'round the streets. Never know who might be listening in, and how quickly you might be accused of treason."
You say to Tall Jim, "Surely it's not as bad as all that? The guards would not be arresting loyal citizens."
Tall Jim says to you, "You'd be amazed what passes these days, far as accusations are concerned. With all the fear floating around, who needs proof? You simply point your finger at a man you don't like, name him a Qeynosian sympathizer, and he'll disappear from your life for good."
You say to Tall Jim, "Good, those dirty Qeynosians should all be locked up!"
    You say, "Hail, Chloe Misfortune"
Chloe Misfortune says to you, "Chloe's the name. What cannuh do fer ya?"
You say to Chloe Misfortune, "I just arrived in town today, to seek residence. I was curious about your general impressions of the government here?"
Chloe Misfortune says to you, "I like it well enough ta... wait. Who sent ye?"
You say to Chloe Misfortune, "Nobody sent me, it was just idle conversation."
Chloe Misfortune says to you, "Et's no good deceivin' me, now. That old seadog's been after me fer ages. Wants me ta join 'im on some darin' adventure, he says. What do you make o' that?"
You say to Chloe Misfortune, "He seemed genuine enough. Putting together an honest crew, I think."
Chloe Misfortune says to you, "Oh I doubt that. An honest crew'd not be suited fer what he's plannin'.You tell 'im I'll think on it, an give 'im me answer on th' morrow."
You say to Chloe Misfortune, "I'll let him know."
    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Did ye speak t' the lads?"
You say to Kain Starkson, "I found and questioned all of them, as asked."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Aye, but tell me true... what did ye learn of 'em?"
You say to Kain Starkson, "Durog is cryptic, but obviously loves the sea. I believe his loyalty is first and foremost to sailing. Brand speaks very carefully, avoiding treasonous talk by way of clever phrasing."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Go on..."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Chloe knew right away that you'd sent me and was considering whatever offer you'd previously given her. And Tall Jim... he sounded liable to turn me in merely for asking him too many questions."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Aye, he's a rascal, that one. And he tells me the same o' you... that yer not ta be trusted. Surprised ye again, did I? Had ta send ye to me crew ta sort out yer loyalties. May be that ye still intend to hand me in ta the guards, or jest maybe ye want ta leave all this behind as bad as we do. What do ye say... join us?"
You say to Kain Starkson, "Perhaps more is going on than I've realized. I'd like to find out just what is going on in Freeport."

    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Well, ye certainly seem the type knows when to keep yer trap shut. That be good fer our business here."
You say to Kain Starkson, "You said you were a captain. Freeport is in need of good captains, so why are you here, drinking your life away?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "A captain? Aye I were. Commandin' the Salty Lass, wind at me side. She weren't the prettiest ship on the water, but a worthy vessel she was. The Buccaneers have 'er now... refitted an' renamed. 'S enough ta make a man weep."
You say to Kain Starkson, "How did they end up with it? The Seafury Buccaneers are Lucan's men."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Don't be daft! When Lucan disappeared, the city went up in chaos. Siren took the Buccaneers out in full force an' confiscated e'ry ship she could get 'er slimy hands on. Nary a force could resist 'er, sides the Far Seas. But they mostly leave each other alone."
You say to Kain Starkson, "The Buccaneers can be a bit unruly, but Lucan keeps them in line. Why haven't you petitioned for your ship's return?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Oh, because I'd never think o' tha' on me own! All seemed lost when me ship were taken. My hopes returned when Lucan did. Always ruled with a fair hand, 'e did; he would deliver the Lass back into me arms."
You say to Kain Starkson, "But he didn't? He was probably too busy to deal with such a small matter."
Kain Starkson says to you, "It were worse... Lucan declared that all ships seized by the Buccs were to remain as part o' the Overlord's navy. Needed em for the commin' confrontation with Qeynos, he said. I weren't even allowed to captain her again as part o' his force."
You say to Kain Starkson, "That doesn't sound right. Why would he do that?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Don't need a reason, do he? He does it because he can. Well I'll not suffer this madness. I'm goin ta reclaim me ship an' head fer the high seas. Would that you'd join me... you've a strong enough arm, and a keen eye. "
You say to Kain Starkson, "This sort of injustice gives Freeport a bad name. What would you have me do?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Last we spoke, me first mate were headin' ta Beggar's Court that he might entreat a few lads ta' round out me crew. I've seen neither hair nor hide of 'im since, and that place be crawlin' with Lucan's guards. I need a man in good standing with Freeport ta sort out 'is fate. I can sketch a likeness of 'im in yer journal."
You say to Kain Starkson, "I'll find your first mate."
You have entered Beggar's Court: Sweat-Stained Cobbles.
a hapless resident says, "Shhh...quiet. I can hear footsteps."
a Freeport loyalist says, "There is no other way but to serve the Overlord!"
a hapless resident says, "I don't know what to do, they won't listen."
a Freeport loyalist says, "We were wise to report the traitors."
You say, "Hail, A Militia guard"
a Militia guard says to you, "Back to work, you filthy dog!"
You say to a Militia guard, "I'm not a slave. I need to inquire about a...."
a Militia guard says to you, "Not a slave, he says. Like I haven't heard that one before. Now back to work before I take my whip to you!"
You say to a Militia guard, "You're making a mistake. I'm here on official business to..."
a Militia guard says to you, "Oh, "official buisiness" is it? Excuse me, excuse me, your highness! Why don't you go take it over to Snars, there. He'll get a right chuckle outta this."
You say to a Militia guard, "Fine!"
    You say, "Hail, Snars"
Snars says to you, "Why aren't you working, dog?"
You say to Snars, "Like I told your guards, I'm not a slave. I'm here to inquire about a friend of mine..."
Snars says to you, "Not a slave? Hah! Nobody ends up on these blood-stained cobbles without a reason, whelp. Storytelling time is over, now back to work before I take a notch out of your hide!"
You say to Snars, "I don't work for you! I'm looking for a..."
Snars says, "Enough! I'll raise welts so large, you'll think you've arms growing out your back!"
    You have killed Snars.
(now hide the body -- Lexa needs more house furniture like this!)
Guards are sure to discover the corpse here!
The corpse should go unnoticed for awhile here.
You say, "Hail, "Elmo's Fire" Ericsson"

You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Did ye find Ericsson?"
You say to Kain Starkson, "I did. He was in hiding and said he'd been unsuccessful and would return soon."
Kain Starkson says to you, "That be unfortunate news, though I be glad he weren't thrown int' the dungeons."
You say to Kain Starkson, "I also slew a Militia member while searching for him."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Those dogs had it commin, I says, though that bodes ill for ye if any folk were ta turn ye in. Best be layin' low fer a bit while I make sure ye weren't spotted. I should have some tasks less likely to get ye noticed."
You say to Kain Starkson, "That sounds like it's for the best."

Kain Starkson says to you, "Mayhap I have another task fer ye; one'll keep ye from pickin' more fights. I loathe all o' Lucan's thugs, but it won't help us none to challenge the lot of em in open combat."
You say to Kain Starkson, "What did you have in mind?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "I mean to heist a ship, lad, though they all be under Siren's sway. I wouldn't be countin' on much room fer a head start either; that bilge-sucking temptress'll be on our tails faster'n we can hoist our jolly roger."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Why don't you just take the fastest ship in her fleet?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Ye've not a bad head on yer shoulders. I plan ta take her fastest; if only t'wer enough! Siren has oarsmen aplenty at her disposal, which will give her an edge in all but the strongest o' winds. We must needs engage in some trickery ta even tha' score."
You say to Kain Starkson, "You have something in mind?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "O'course! Do ye take me fer a two-bit braggart? I 'ave contacts o' ill repute aplenty, but fer this I'm of a mind to call on me old mate. Knew 'im when he was just a clerk, I did, but now he styles himself 'Trade Commissioner'."
You say to Kain Starkson, "You're friends with Trade Commissioner Nasin?! But he's loyal to Lucan."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Oh he be loyal, Nasin. But it's not Lucan's his lord. Knows opportunity, Nasin does, and Lucan's been good fer business, so he follows 'im. His true lord... well 'is true lord is gold. And I've an offer he's not like to refuse."
You say to Kain Starkson, "This sounds risky. What is my part?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Here be a set o' specs drawn up by Tall Jim. Designs I need delivered ta Trade Commissioner Nasin, and completed on the morrow. It be too risky fer me ta be seen speakin' ta Nasin, so I'm sendin' ye in me place. Be quick-like, and don't go pickin' any fights this time."
You say to Kain Starkson, "It was self defense!"
    You say, "Hail, Lasarian Nasin"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "What can I do for you?"
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "I've brought in a work order request."
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Ahh, I recognize this handwriting. Our mutual friend must wish to keep this order beneath the table, so to speak. And what are these devices he's having us assemble?"
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "I was not provided with that information, only the orders."
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "I see. You might be interested to know that the schematics only show the individual pieces, but a clever man could infer their final assembly as well as their purpose."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Are you the clever man in this scenario?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "How wise you are! He has requested water resistant wood, and pinions of the strongest steel. Given the dimensions of these pieces, and the quantity requested, one might speculate that he plans to attach these over-sized vices to the rudders of every ship in Freeport."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Surmising such criminal actions sounds unhealthy."
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Please relax, my friend. I was merely musing at the possibilities. Of course no criminal action is intended. All the same, it pains me to notify you that I must approve these plans with one of Lucan's militia members; a bureaucratic bother he's recently added. Unless..."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "Unless...?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Well, I suppose we might bypass that step if you were to provide the bulk of the raw materials. You know that official approval is mainly for purposes of taxation, and with your own supplies, I could keep this entire project off the books."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "And make a much higher profit, since you won't be providing any of the materials."
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "It is true! But one should not overlook the mutual benefit gained by this. I see this request is to be completed by midday tomorrow. You had best get started collecting those materials!"
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "All right, scalawag. What do you need me to collect?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "As it happens, an entire grove of acariquara trees used to occupy the northeast section of Commonlands. This wood is highly resilient in salt water, but much too stiff to be of use in ship building, so many old logs remain there, unscavenged."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "And the steel?"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Near this same spot, along the ocean's edge, iron deposits are slowly being exposed as the cliff face is eaten away. The deposits can be tricky to reach, so no permanent mining operation has been set up yet. Luckily we do not need a large quantity of this for our steel, so a clever and careful miner should be able to collect the desired quantity. I'll set my fastest smith to the folding; deliver the iron to Sanura Lithestripe before returning the lumber here."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "I'll be back as soon as I have procured the supplies."
    You have entered The Commonlands.

    You say, "Hail, Sanura Lithestripe"
Sanura Lithestripe:Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Do you have business to discuss with me? I am busy, and do not abide those who tarry."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "Commissioner Nasin asked me to deliver this rich iron to you."
Sanura Lithestripe:Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Ah yes, he has sent word that this order is top priority. I am known throughout Freeport for the strength of my steel, and this iron you've brought me appears to be of high quality. The pinions your master ordered won't be the prettiest things, but they'll be neigh unbreakable. If you have no other business with me, I'll get started on these at once."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "Hammer away."
    You say, "Hail, Sanura Lithestripe"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "You have the look of one who wishes to get something off their chest..."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "Yes. I have learned of a plot against Freeport, but do not know who to trust with the information."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Then you've come to the right place. The guards, they are greedy and would use the information to their own advantage. Tell me of these wrongdoings and I will make sure they are heard and the guilty parties punished."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "But you're just a blacksmith."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "A blacksmith I am, but none may proclaim themselves more loyal to Lucan than I. This carries certain privileges, you see. I am close personal friends with the leader of the Seafury Buccaneers, Siren herself!"
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "Really... would you be able to inform Siren that a certain ship's captain is plotting to commandeer one of her ships?"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Treachery! I believe I know of whom you speak, and he is no true son of Freeport. He should have been locked up when first he spoke out against Lucan's decrees! Still, we should not be too hasty. He must have accomplices."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "He does. I met a few of them as he was trying to recruit me."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "How purrrrfect! Your help will be all the stronger if you can name the entire batch of traitors. Continue to work for Kain, gain his trust, and make note of his contacts. Return to me before he sets sail, and I will make sure he is brought to justice."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "I will do as you say. His treachery must not go unpunished!"
    You say, "Hail, Lasarian Nasin"
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Sanura sent word ahead that she's already set to work on your iron. The pinions will be completed on schedule. And you've brought me the lumber I requested?"
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "I have, though I was attacked by large beetles when I attempted to harvest the wood."
Lasarian Nasin says to you, "Ahh, I had wondered why so many of those logs went unmolested by local peasants. I only pray the wood retains its integrity. Let our friend know that his order is being filled, and I'll expect some fine returns on his... business venture."
You say to Lasarian Nasin, "I will deliver the message."
    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Ye were gone longer'n I expected. I hope ye've not run afoul o' the guards again."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Not this time. Your "friend" Nasin sent me to gather the raw resources to complete your order."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Har, th' scalawag!"
You say to Kain Starkson, "That's what I called him!"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Aye, 'n he be deservin' it too. But he'd also not give up me plans, less his own hide were on the line. No doubt he were apprised o' what he be constructin' fer me."
You say to Kain Starkson, "He was. He said the order would be completed by midday tomorrow, and alluded to further payment."
Kain Starkson says to you, "O' course he did. But he knows I be fair; he'll be seein' recompense enough once we take to the sea. Ye've done fine work fer me again, Lexa. Rest yer boots a spell, and share me rum!"

You say to Kain Starkson, "Would that I had time. Is there anything else I can help with?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "I see ye be all a'jitter after tha' last task. Itchin' fer more action, is it? Well mayhap I have somethin' fer ye. It be dangerous, though, I'll mince no words there."
You say to Kain Starkson, "I'm intrigued. Tell me about this task."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Most o' me crew be assembled, 'n ready ta sail. But I be needin' a sharp an' seasoned eye ta spot fer reefs 'n dangerous currents. An old mate o' mine were the best; even styled his name after it. "Doran Crow's Nest" he used ta' be, though not many a ship in Freeport were large enough ta' even use a crow's nest."
You say to Kain Starkson, "If you need him so badly, why haven't you recruited him yet?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "I'm sure he'd be joinin' us in a snap, but fer he be locked up. Seems he ran afoul o' the Overlord's "justice" when some drunken bilge rats at th' tavern picked a fight with 'im. 'Course he gave worse'n he got, so they fancied him a Qeynos spy, and quicker'n ye can spit, he were hauled off to th' Scale Yard."
You say to Kain Starkson, "He was hauled off just because some drunks accused him of being a spy?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Tha's as I've been tellin' ye, is'nit? Lucan's been no boon to th' commonfolk of late, and most like any ye speak ta will tell of some mate or kin's been put ta shackles. Providin' they dare speak o' it."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Why was he sent to the Scale Yard? Isn't that a camp for Iksars?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Aye, 'n those new brown lizards alike. Only now Lucan's got them runnin' the place. RUNNIN' it! While he throws honest, warmblooded folk in ta be mistreated in ways no man should suffer."
You say to Kain Starkson, "That sounds atrocious. What are you planning to do?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "I aim ta jailbreak Doran o' course! I 'ave a plan most like ta work, as well. E'ryone knows those lizard's eyes be on the side o' their heads. They ken spot a man flankin' em a mile off, but come straight at em an' they be blind as a cyclops with an eyepatch."
You say to Kain Starkson, "That's geckos. Look, why don't I take care of the planning? You just tell me where, exactly, he's being held."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Arr! They all be slimy lizards ta me! But if ye think yer wits'll serve ye better, then have at. He be held in a room on th' east side o' the prison. Ye'll know him by 'is hair."
You say to Kain Starkson, "This should be an easy task."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Ye must use yer wits; won't do me no good ta have ye swashbuckle yer way in. Get in an' escape quiet-like, an' mayhap those reptiles won't be tha' wiser."
You say to Kain Starkson, "I think you underestimate my sneakiness."
You have entered Scale Yard: Scalebreak!.
a Militia guard says, "Why are you sneaking about?"
a Militia guard says, "This is a restricted area. I'm taking you back to the gate."
a Militia guard says, "Ah hah! Got you!"
a Militia guard says, "This is a restricted area. I'm taking you back to the gate."
(I cut a LOT of Militia "taking you back" chatter cause the guards here are REALLY sharp! And I'm a Necro, not a frakkin Ninja Scout!! */shakes a fist at Fyreflye* But it's pretty easy once you get a feel for the zone.)
You say, "Hail, Doran the Crow"
Doran the Crow says to you, "Now hold up a tic! You aren't one of them lizards..."
You say to Doran the Crow, "Kain Starkson sent me here to release you."
Doran the Crow says to you, "Still plotting to escape this infernal city, is he? I refused when he first asked. No reason to abandon the old girl, I told him. But now..."
You say to Doran the Crow, "Now...?"
Doran the Crow says to you, "Well now that I've been hauled off to prison because some wet-nursed youth couldn't hold his own in a brawl and reported me to the guards for a Qeynosian... is this becoming a city full of tattlers? And those guards! No trial to be seen. First thing I knew, they'd hauled me in here and turned me over to the lizards."
You say to Doran the Crow, "That sounds like a raw deal. Are you in any shape to sneak out with me?"
Doran the Crow says to you, "Aye, and I've some talent for stealth. Unfortunately getting in is easier than escaping. We'll need a key from the captain of the guard to escape. And we'll need to get that key without him raising the alarm to the rest of the lizards."
You say to Doran the Crow, "Where is this captain and how do you suggest avoiding being caught?"
Doran the Crow says to you, "He has a fondness for the warrior's fountain in the central plaza. We can't allow our escape to be known, but the guards didn't search me well when I was thrown in here. I have a small vial of poison which causes short term memory loss; if you can weaken the captain, I'll give him a little drink and he won't remember a thing! We should then be able to swipe his keys and make our escape before anyone's the wiser."
You say to Doran the Crow, "I like your plan. Follow me."
Captain Xalkastiz says, "Crow's Nest! You're to remain confined to your room... and who is this? Back to your cells!"
(beat him down and Doran dopes him up)
Captain Xalkastiz is no longer worth any experience or treasure.
Doran the Crow says, "You're skilled indeed! I'm going to need to lay low for awhile, so be sure to let Kain know I've made it out."

You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Ah good, Lexa, ye've returned. We be shovin' off soon; Lucan's been sending his spooks round me crew, far more'n can be coincidence."
You say to Kain Starkson, "What do you mean by "spooks"?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Be ye blind, Lexa? Have ye not looked upon the horrors walking the streets o' Freeport? Lucan's own knights..."
You say to Kain Starkson, "The Lucanic Knights? They look more regal than ever."
Kain Starkson says to you, "There's barnacles over yer eyes then. 'Ts not all o' his knights, but those closest to him... look at one close as ye dare next ye be out. Pale skin, hollow eyes... and the COLD that surrounds them..."
You say to Kain Starkson, "You can't be suggesting they're undead?? The people would never stand for that."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Aye, that be the long n' the short of it. Folks everywhere are afraid to speak out against it. Some's even embraced it; claim the ends justify the means, with no mind fer who's hurt along the way!"
You say to Kain Starkson, "That sounds ridiculous. Pride in your city should not come at the expense of freedom. Can I help with your escape?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Most o' the crew be out gatherin' supplies, but there be a far more dangerous task yet ta be done. We still be in need of a ship, Lexa, and one amongst us needs pose as a Buccaneer. Ericsson tells me yer secret o' Beggar's Court be kept safe, so ye be perfect fer this task."
You say to Kain Starkson, "But I'm less apt at sailing than the rest of your crew."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Aye, but the Buccs do be hirin' strongarms aplenty. Seek out their master at arms an' offer up yer service. Keep watch fer a night and make note of their patrol schedulin'. We should ready ourselves ta sail soon after."
You say to Kain Starkson, "That should be easy enough."
    You say, "Hail, Lieutenant Rhyslon"
Lieutenant Rhyslon says to you, "You there! You look able-bodied. Do you think you have what it takes to be a Buccaneer?"
You say to Lieutenant Rhyslon, "I'm here to become a sailor. Where do I sign up?"
Lieutenant Rhyslon says to you, "Well now, we're all full up on sailors, but it just so happens we've got room for a handful of strong young lads and lasses to watch over the docks. You put in the time, and one day you might become a full-fledged seaman!"
You say to Lieutenant Rhyslon, "Well, I do need the work..."
Lieutenant Rhyslon says to you, "Aye, it's honest work. If you get taken on, you'll mostly be patrolling the area for ruffians and the occasional Militia member who's strayed outside his jurisdiction!"
You say to Lieutenant Rhyslon, "Great. I'll join."
Lieutenant Rhyslon says to you, "Hold your seahorses there, Lexa. You look tough enough, but not just anyone gets to join, and a we've got a whole mess of hopefuls here today. Head on down to the end of the dock and speak to Shae about competing."
You say to Lieutenant Rhyslon, "I will speak to Shae."
    You say, "Hail, Lazy Shae"
Lazy Shae says to you, "You here for the competition? You're to engage in single- combat while several officers judge your fighting performance. They may choose to hop in to test your skill a little themselves. Let me know when you are ready to begin."
You say to Lazy Shae, "Okay, I am ready."
(get ready for one big free-for-all brawl!)
an armored combatant says, "Time to prove my skills!"
an armored combatant says, "Teamwork will prevail!"
You have killed an armored combatant.
You have killed an armored combatant.
Rayd Aerin says, "You do well enough against women and boys still wet behind the ears. Let's test your skill against a real opponent!"
an armored combatant says, "Let's gang up on the strong one first!"
Rayd Aerin says, "You're stronger than you look!"
Lazy Shae says, "This one is clearly a contender. Now to test my blade..."
Lazy Shae says, "Well, your combat basics are solid!"
an armored combatant says, "Were there rules against teaming up?"
an armored combatant says, "Guards work together, why shouldn't we?"
You have killed an armored combatant.
Groms Grollop says, "Groms won't make this so easy on little one!"
You have killed an armored combatant.
    You say, "Hail, Lieutenant Rhyslon"
Lieutenant Rhyslon says to you, "You seem to be a cut above the rest of our applicants. If you're up to the task, we'll have you take the southern patrol of the docks for now. We don't have a uniform ready yet, but I've already informed our other guards that you'd be joining them. Report back to me if there is any trouble."
You say to Lieutenant Rhyslon, "Excellent. I will be on the lookout for anything suspicious."
You say, "Hail, A Seafury recruit"
a Seafury recruit says, "I hate the southern patrol routes. Too many Militia members down here. Yours is the worst, though."
You say, "Hail, A Seafury recruit"
a Seafury recruit says, "You got the southernmost route? They always give that to the newcomers. You'll be stuck patrolling there for weeks unless they find some fresh meat."
You say, "Hail, A Seafury recruit"
a Seafury recruit says, "Nothing exciting ever happens on this beat. Ships don't even come all the way in to dock anymore!"
    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Ye've the look o' success in yer eye, Lexa."
You say to Kain Starkson, "I landed a position patrolling the southern dock. No other Seafuries will be nearby, and none are watching the harbor itself."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Well tha' is icing on the cake! Return to yer patrol route, and play th' part. Me crew'll handle the rest."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 30 Gold, 92 Silver, 81 Copper for completing Buccaneer at Arms.
You receive Sunset Over Port Living.
You discovered Sunset Over Port Living.

You say to Kain Starkson, "Do you need help securing the ship?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Doran, Chloe, an' Jimmy are all offshore beneath th' tides. They be in perfect position to capture a ship, so long as you can keep prying eyes off the south o' th' dock. "
You say to Kain Starkson, "What do you mean 'beneath the tides'?"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Remember th' devices yeh ordered from Nasin earlier? They be affixin' those clamps to the rudders o' Siren's fleet! Won't she be surprised when she fixes to give chase and can't but sail in a single direction! Were that I could see the look on 'er face..."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Yes, of course. I'll head right down to the docks..."
    You say, "Hail, Sanura Lithestripe"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Ahh, the loyalist returns. Have you rooted out the entirety of Kain's network?"
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "I believe so. They are preparing to make off with one of Siren's ships."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Stopping them would be an easy task, for sure, but several might still escape. Once they are out to sea, however, they will have nowhere to run. You can subdue them and return with the ship at your leisure."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "Myself against the six of them? I can handle those odds."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "You seem capable enough, but the Overlord will want no mistakes. I've spoken to his most trusted knights, and have prepared a surprise for Kain which will aid you greatly. You need only bring aboard this giant urn."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "That will look very suspicious. And what is in the urn?"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Inform the crew that it is a valuable artifact that you mean to sell when they reach port, and they will gladly accept it. As to what is in it, well... beware of kerrans bearing gifts."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "If you can have the urn delivered to the south dock, I will see it aboard the ship."
You say, "Hail, A mysterious figure"
a mysterious figure says to you, "Pst, Lexa! It's me, Ericsson."
You say to a mysterious figure, "I remember you. From Beggar's Court!"
a mysterious figure says to you, "Yes, and I cleaned up your little mess too. Don't worry, so much violence occurs in that sector that no one suspected a thing, though you've made life harder on those workers."
You say to a mysterious figure, "Have preparations for our voyage been made?"
a mysterious figure says to you, "Yes. Chloe, Jim, and Doran have managed to secure a ship, and Kain and Durog are set to meet me here momentarily. Is there anything you need to take care of before we leave?"
You say to a mysterious figure, "I managed to secure an ancient vase that we can sell for a tidy profit, once we've left. It's due to arrive here any minute, though it is quite large."
a mysterious figure says to you, "Some salable goods would not hurt at all. We've mostly secured food and water, but that will soon run out. I will have Durog bring your vase aboard; he's an inhumanly strong swimmer. Ah, did I mention we'll need to swim out to the ship? Bringing it in to port here would be far too risky. Let me know as soon as you are ready to embark!"
You say to a mysterious figure, "I am ready to leave!"
You have entered The Salty Lass II.
    You say, "Hail, Durog Malthese"
Durog Malthese says, "Stare into the abyss... is it not beautiful?"
You say, "Hail, Doran the Crow"
Doran the Crow says, "Stay back from the bow! This is a squall the likes of which I've never seen!"
    You say, "Hail, Tall Jim"
Tall Jim says, "I don't like the feel of this, buddy... it's not the storm that's bothering me. Something else is afoot."
    You say, "Hail, Brand Narson"
Brand Narson says, "This is madness! Nobody sails this close to the maelstrom!"
You say, "Hail, "Elmo's Fire" Ericsson"
"Elmo's Fire" Ericsson says, "Kain's the most skilled captain I've ever known, but we're so close to the maelstrom... and that twister is catching up to us!"
    You say, "Hail, Chloe Misfortune"
Chloe Misfortune says, "With Captain Kain at the helm, there's naught to fear, lass."
    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Ye'll have ta shout! Ah can barely hear ye over these winds!"
You say to Kain Starkson, "Are we in the clear yet?!"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Aye, we seem ta be! Tha' waterspout behind us smashed the few ships Siren managed ta bring about, but somethin' feels amiss! It were far easier ta get away than I'd guessed..."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Maybe they knew the storm would kill us all anyway!"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Tha' did cross me mind, but it be unlike th' overlord ta leave such things ta chance! I've a tinglin' down me spine that says as we've been betrayed..."
You say to Kain Starkson, "I think I might know why that is. Have a look at this urn I brought aboard..."
    Brand Narson says, "What the..."
    Tall Jim says, "Seven hells!"
Lucanic Knight Helmark says to you, "How delicious! All of the little traitors in one place... and nowhere to run!"
Kain Starkson says, "Lexa?! I had a feelin' I couldn't trust ye!"
Brand Narson says, "What?? You brought aboard a Lucanic Knight!??"
You say to Lucanic Knight Helmark, "Would you like help in collecting their traitorous heads?"
Lucanic Knight Helmark says to you, "The Overlord's orders were to leave none alive... your head is coming as well."
You say to Lucanic Knight Helmark, "What? I am loyal to Lucan! I delivered these scum to you."
Lucanic Knight Helmark says to you, "And for that you have my thanks. But Lucan's commands were quite clear. No one is to leave this ship alive!"
Tall Jim says, "Worse! Look at his eyes... he's one of the Wraithguard!"
You say to Lucanic Knight Helmark, "Then I'll deal with them after I've finished you..."
(kill the guard, but be ready for him to get back up again in a moment)
    Lucanic Knight Helmark says, "No..."
Doran the Crow says, "You play dirtier than I do, Lexa!"
Kain Starkson says, "Ye may have saved us, but there will be a reckonin' fer yer betrayal!"
Tall Jim says, "I knew I smelled a rat!"
    Brand Narson says, "Now what?"
    Tall Jim says, "What..."
Kain Starkson says, "Oi, look behind ye!"
Lucanic Knight Helmark says, "You only make me stronger!"
(the guard gets back up now and combat resumes)
Lucanic Knight Helmark says, "You cannot kill what is already dead..."
(he dies, again, and gets back up, again)
Chloe Misfortune says, "It's not staying down! Kill it with fire!!!"
(Chloe tosses a molotov cocktail, you fight a burning knight this time)
Kain Starkson says, "By Prexus' trident! I thought we were done fer. Now let's get this fire out 'for it burns through me ship!"
Chloe Misfortune says, "You're next, Lexa!"
(hey, guess who's back up... again)
Lucanic Knight Helmark says, "I will send you to the same fiery hell!"
Kain Starkson says, "No man is goin ta take me ship again, deathspawn! Worse things lurk in these depths than yer ilk!"
"Elmo's Fire" Ericsson says, "Kain, no! Have you forgotten what that artifact will summon?!?"
(fight the burning knight some more while a tentacled leviathan spawns around the ship)
Durog Malthese says, "That giant maw is most dangerous! Perhaps you can distract it with the blazing abomination!"
(the leviathan eats the knight -- come back from THAT, sucker!)
"Elmo's Fire" Ericsson says, "We can still fight this monster! Wound each of its tentacles enough and it should retreat!"
(burn the tentacles down to 0% and the leviathan flees)
Spitter Tentacle is no longer worth any experience or treasure.
Spitter Tentacle is no longer worth any experience or treasure.
Gorger Tentacle is no longer worth any experience or treasure.
Gazer Tentacle is no longer worth any experience or treasure.
Kain Starkson says, "Well I'll be..."
"Elmo's Fire" Ericsson says, "Best watch your back, Lexa. I have ways of making folks disappear..."
    You say, "Hail, Kain Starkson"
Kain Starkson says to you, "Well I'll be... I knew ye weren' ta be trusted, Lexa but I'd never have guessed ye'd sink so low. What's it ta be now?"
You say to Kain Starkson, "You'll need to turn this ship around, Kain. After we return to Freeport the Overlord will decide your fate."
Kain Starkson says to you, "Ye've already cost me navigator 'is life, Lexa. Ye'll exact no further price!"
You say to Kain Starkson, "Imprisonment should be preferable to death."
"Elmo's Fire" Ericsson says, "Good luck, Lexa. I hope you can swim!!!"
Kain Starkson says to you, "If ye think tha', then ye've learned nothing of me at all. Look ta yer right..."
You say to Kain Starkson, "Wha-"
(Ericsson throws one heck of a right hook!!!)
    You have entered The Commonlands.
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Sanura Lithestripe"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Lexa... you appear wet. We assumed you were lost at sea when a local fisherman found Kain Starkson's tattered hat washed ashore. I hope you bring good tidings?"
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "I have not. I was attacked by the Wraithguard Lucan sent, and Kain and most of his crew escaped."
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "What?? How was Helmark unable to finish the job? You two were up against a simple group of sailors!"
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "Did you mishear me? The Wraithguard was not working with me. He attacked me, then Kain used some ancient artifact to summon a leviathan, which devoured the knight!"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Truly? This sounds like a tall tale, Lexa. The Overlord will not be pleased at the loss of his knight, nor at Kain's escape, but perhaps you can turn this to your favor."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "What do you suggest?"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Allow me to report this tale back to the Overlord. I am in good favor with him and may not incur his wrath. The loss of a knight of the Wraithguard will anger him, but I am sure he would be most interested in an artifact with the power to summon a sea monster."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "If I grant you the honor of that audience, what do I get in return?"
Sanura Lithestripe says to you, "Here. You may take Kain's hat as a trophy, and have your pick from among my latest batch of magically-infused weaponry. You have done all that could be expected of a true patriot, Lexa."
You say to Sanura Lithestripe, "As you say."

    You say, "Hail, Thesla Blackthorne"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "The Dismal Rage sent you to assist me? Good. There is much I need done, and little time in which to do it."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "You look very capable already."
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "I am not incapable of these tasks individually, but attempting to complete the whole of them within an acceptable time frame would prove futile. By mandate of the Dismal Rage, and your obligation to the Overlord of Freeport, I order you to assist me."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "Consider me conscripted. How may I serve?"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "You are, no doubt, familiar with the Overlord's recent inquiries into Longshadow Alley. He means to root out the location of the betrayer, Tayil, and any who may have aided in her escape."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "Tayil N'Velex? The dark elf who kidnapped Lucan?"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "According to some rumors, yes, though in truth she did not kidnap Lucan herself. Safe behind the curtain of his trust, she planted void anchors within his citadel, allowing the creatures of that plane to enter undetected."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "And once the creatures had taken him to their dimension, Tayil seized power."
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "Correct. An unfortunate turn for sure, though perhaps Lucan would have seen it coming had he surrounded himself with more trustworthy allies. He retook his throne when he returned, but Tayil managed to slip away silently. Now Lucan seeks to isolate himself from anyone living, that he might never taste betrayal again."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "It sounds as though you do not approve of his actions."
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "I do not. However, I believe that bringing the betrayer before him will help quench his thirst for revenge, and restore his faith in those he rules."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "How may I serve in this?"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "The name of Lexa is not unknown amongst the ranking members of my order. It is said you have a deft hand in combat and are known to be quite... persuasive when information is required. I need the location of Tayil N'Velex, and the names of her accomplices."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "Where might I obtain this information?"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "Tayil was most likely aided by followers of Prince Thex. The Arasai are already conducting their own inquisition to root out Thexians, so I suggest you question their leaders. They have become so single-minded in their crusade that they are liable to gloss over the information that most interests the Overlord."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "I will obtain this information in Lucan's name."
You have entered Longshadow Alley: Daeneth Cloister.
You say, "Hail, A Nerian gate sentry"
a Nerian gate sentry says to you, "How dare you disturb me while I'm on official business?!"
You say to a Nerian gate sentry, "Woah, calm down there. I need to speak to one of your superiors."
a Nerian gate sentry says to you, "Oh of course! I mean, assuming it's important enough. What is it you need to see them about?"
You say to a Nerian gate sentry, "I'm interested in any information you have about the whereabouts of Tayil N'Velex."
a Nerian gate sentry says to you, "Tayil N'Who? Is she a Thexian? Our Questioners are still rooting out disloyal Thexians!"
You say to a Nerian gate sentry, "I do not know if she is a Thexian. She's a dark elf, however."
a Nerian gate sentry says to you, "Well then, you really should speak to one of her own kind, shouldn't you? But you needn't concern yourself with that. If discovered to be a Thexian, she'll be put to the question until she confesses!"
You say to a Nerian gate sentry, "Your sound awfully cheerful about that..."
You say, "Hail, A Longshadow citizen"
a Longshadow citizen says to you, "The inquisitorial squad has already cleared me! I'm NOT a Thexian!"
You say to a Longshadow citizen, "Calm down, I'm not here to accuse you, only ask some questions."
a Longshadow citizen says to you, "Questions?? What kind of... qu- questions?"
You say to a Longshadow citizen, "I'm looking for information on the whereabouts of Tayil N'Velex."
a Longshadow citizen says to you, "She betrayed Lucan... that's all I know! How would I know where she is? I just hear rumors. Please... please leave me be."
You say to a Longshadow citizen, "What do these rumors say?"
a Longshadow citizen says to you, "Some say that after Lucan returned to confront her, she disappeared into thin air. Others that she grew large bat wings and flew away. I heard tell that she may never have existed at all, but was a clever illusion created by a powerful void being."
You say to a Longshadow citizen, "Never mind. I've heard enough."
You say, "Hail, A Nerian questioner"
a Nerian questioner says to you, "No time to speak to you; I have Thexian confessions to evoke!"
You say to a Nerian questioner, "I'm on official business of the Dismal Rage. I need..."
a Nerian questioner says to you, "Dismal Rage?? They still cling to the silly notion that there are multiple gods. And they waste time praying to each of them, if you can believe it! How can they claim themselves priests when they refuse to worship the one true god, Cristanos?"
You say to a Nerian questioner, "Look. I'm not interested in religious theology, I need to speak to the leader of your organization."
a Nerian questioner says to you, "Oh I'm quite certain that won't be possible! We have no obligation to the Dismal Rage, nor to you. But keep up the good work!"
You say to a Nerian questioner, "You may live to regret this."
You have entered The City of Freeport.

You discovered The Overlord's Gleaming Citadel.

Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "Did you glean any new information?"
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "The cultists were less than forthcoming. More force may be required."
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "I had feared as much. This cult remains our best means of capturing Tayil, but it is growing beyond Lucan's control. I once again require your presence; this time in a more forceful capacity."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "Am I to return to Longshadow Alley?"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "You are. I will provide you with a writ signed by Lucan himself, demanding that the cult leaders divulge any information they have come across."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "You can procure Lucan's signature that quickly?"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "Of course not, but who is going to know the difference? Some 'official' documents along with the implied threat of your presence should be enough to scare out what meager secrets they possess. "
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "And if they resist?"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "This task is paramount. Persuade them by any means necessary."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "I will return with their secrets."
You have entered Longshadow Alley: Daeneth Cloister.
You say, "Hail, A Nerian gate sentry"
a Nerian gate sentry says to you, "Hi there. Do you realize you're standing right in my view?"
You say to a Nerian gate sentry, "I have official orders from Lucan, charging you to assist me!"
a Nerian gate sentry says to you, "Well, that sounds like it might be serious. What is it I'm to assist you with?"
You say to a Nerian gate sentry, "I need to find the person in charge here. I have questions I need answered."
a Nerian gate sentry says to you, "Oh I think one of the Questioners might be more helpful to you. Yes, definitely speak to one of them... Tell them all your secrets..."
You say to a Nerian gate sentry, "Creepy. But speaking to one of the Questioners will probably be more fruitful."
You say, "Hail, A Nerian questioner"
a Nerian questioner says to you, "You look like a puppet of the Dismal Rage! Are you prepared to renounce your heathen ways and bow to the One True God?"
You say to a Nerian questioner, "I have an official writ requesting your cooperation. You will answer my questions this time."
a Nerian questioner says to you, ""Official" document? I don't see Cristanos' seal on it! Return to me with her orders and I'll gladly chat with you."
You say to a Nerian questioner, "If you will not bow to Lucan's seal, I must charge you with treason. Let this be a lesson to your kin!"
a Nerian inquisitor says, "We can always increase the pain. Always."
You have killed a Nerian questioner.
an enraged Nerian says, "They bring death...as foretold."
an enraged Nerian says, "Enemies approach!"
an enraged Nerian says, "Ugh...my spirit will survive..."
    (runses from the angry mob!)
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Thesla Blackthorne"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "You bear the signs of battle. Were you able to coax any new information from our pious horde?"
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "They claimed I was a Thexian and attacked me openly!"
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!

  15. ARCHIVED-Iskandar Guest

Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "I warned Lucan he should keep a tighter reign on those faeries. You're going to need a more formidable means of dealing with them; take this letter to Tamara Paust, Foci of the Academy of Arcane Sciences."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "Why not a leader of the Dismal Rage?"
Thesla Blackthorne says to you, "The cultists have taken to worshiping the queen of Neriak as a god, and view other religious organizations as rivals. The Academy lacks that religious enmity, and has been dealing with the cultists as well. They should be better equipped to enforce cooperation."
You say to Thesla Blackthorne, "I see. I will speak to Foci Tamara."
You say, "Hail, Foci Tamara Paust"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Are you lost? I have acolytes who would be happy to attend you."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Actually, I was sent to you directly."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "And who would presume to do that, I wonder? If Lucan himself shows up at my doorstep to herald your arrival, I might grant you audience. Until then you may deal with my acolytes, or run along and play at importance elsewhere."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I have a letter for you from Thesla Blackthorne."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Oh? Now isn't that interesting. Let's have a look..."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Here you are."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "So you're to infiltrate the cult in Longshadow Alley, are you? A task even my most base apprentices could handle; why it was asked of you, I'm unsure."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I already have some experience dealing with this cult."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Well, we wouldn't want to waste your vast wealth of knowledge, would we? I can provide you with an illusion to fool those little winglings; that should give you access to their leaders. But this letter indicates that you were inept at interrogation as well."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I never got the chance to interrogate them!"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Surely, darlin'. But we wouldn't want to take that chance, would we? There's a devious little gnome in my employ who possesses just the sort of mind required for this task. Deliver this note to him, and give him my regards. Now be on your way."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "I will."
    You receive Illusory Arasai Effigy.
    You discovered Illusory Arasai Effigy.
    You say, "Hail, Rusty Cogsprocket"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "I've had word from Tamara that you'd be arriving. Do you have a letter for me?"
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "If you've heard from Tamara, why would she need to send you a letter?"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Say what? You just now told me Tamara had sent you. Where is her letter?"
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "I said no such thing. What are you up to?"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "So suspicious! You would not be here unless you needed my help. Do you want it or not?"
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "Fine, here is your letter."
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Ah good... hmm. Yes, this will tie in with my plans perfectly. I've been working on a device that will... extract truths from unwilling subjects. It is nearly complete, but it still requires a core."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "What more do you need to build this core?"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Therein lies the beauty, Lexa! The inquisitorial squads in Longshadow Alley have been employing a magically infused gem when questioning their victims. I suspect one of these gems would work perfectly in this respect."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "Why would we need your device if these gems already exist?"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "As far as I've been able to determine, the gems are merely torture devices and cannot forcefully extract information. My device will amplify their effects and cause immense pain, which will force our subjects to confess their secrets!"
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "How am I supposed to wrest a gem from the cultists? They nearly killed me last time I set foot there."
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Your short-sightedness astounds me, Lexa. Tamara provided you with a disguise, did she not? That will handle your features. You'll need to steal the raiments of an actual cultist and worm your way into their organization. Acting as a new recruit you should be given a Questioner's gem."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "Alright. I'll bring you back the gem."
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Not so fast. Once you've penetrated their organization, it would behoove you to make use of that position. See if you can learn the means by which the gems are used, and in doing so, attempt to root out the information you desire."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "Do you mean for me to torture the very group from whom I've taken the gem?"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "If the opportunity presents itself, certainly. In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to trail some of the other cultists and put the question to a few Thexians. It should familiarize you with the operation of the gem, which will greatly speed the completion of my device."
    (I like his style!)
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "This had better work."
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Well, I'm not guaranteeing that your inquisitions will prove fruitful. Once my device is complete, however, we will be able to extract any secret from anyone, and you'll have your answers. Now go! Learn what you can and return to me with the gem!"
You have entered Longshadow Alley: Daeneth Cloister.
You begin to cast a spell.
    You change form.
Lexa has killed a Nerian questioner.
You loot Cultist Robes from the corpse of a Nerian questioner.
    You discovered Cultist Robes.
(equip the robe to complete the illusion)
    You look like a cultist!
a Nerian guard says, "All Thexian hearts belong to the queen; beating or not."
a Nerian inquisitor says, "How much longer will you travel this path of lies? We shall see..."
a Nerian inquisitor says, "I can do this all night. In fact, I think I will start over."
a Thexian captive says, "Ooooo! I am telling the truth....ahhhh!"
a Thexian captive says, "Please! Nooooo...."
You say, "Hail, A Nerian questioner"
a Nerian questioner says to you, "You there, why aren't you out performing your duties?"
You say to a Nerian questioner, "I was just assigned to Questioning, but have not yet received my gem."
a Nerian questioner says to you, "The gem would have been with your robes. Try not to be so careless as to leave it behind next time. Luckily, I have extras. It just wouldn't do to fall behind on our Thexian torturing!"
You say to a Nerian questioner, "Not at all!"
a Nerian questioner says to you, "Here's your gem. Now get out there and get those confessions!"
    You receive Questioner's Gem.
    You discovered Questioner's Gem.
You say to a Nerian questioner, "As you say!"
    (observe a couple of interrogations)
a Nerian questioner says, "Give me the names of your Thexian cohorts and I'll grant you a pleasant death."
a cornered citizen says, "But I told you, I'm not a Thexian!"
a Nerian questioner says, "Hah! That's just what a Thexian would say! You have one more chance to tell me about your allies."
a cornered citizen says, "I don't have any allies! What am I supposed to say? I'm not a Thex-arrrrgh!"
a cornered citizen says, "Please! I'll tell you anything I know, I just don't- ahhhhh!"
a cornered citizen says, "No... no more. I'm... ok, I worship prince Thex."
a Nerian questioner says, "Well of course you do! It's what I've been telling you all along. Now, who are your fellow Thexians?"
a cornered citizen says, "They're... uhm... Deleus just across the way, and Narsico over by the court."
a Nerian questioner says, "Good good. You've been most helpful!"
a cornered citizen passes out from the pain.
a Nerian questioner says, "Who is your contact and what does he do?"
a cornered citizen says, "You'll get nothing from me, faerie scum!"
a Nerian questioner says, "Well that's a very uncooperative attitude! How are we supposed to build up a strong empire with naysayers like you running about?"
a cornered citizen says, "You wouldn't be so bold without that little gem, fae!"
a Nerian questioner says, "Not to worry; I'd find other ways of making you talk. This is just so much more convenient."
a cornered citizen says, "I can... break these cuffs!"
a Nerian questioner says, "You can't break those cuffs!"
    a cornered citizen says, "RRRRAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!"
(use the gem to conduct an interrogation)
a Longshadow citizen says, "No! Not again..."
a Longshadow citizen says, "The... pain... I know nothing about Tayil... arrrgh!"
a Longshadow citizen says, "No more... dr... gaahhh-Maldreya!"
a Longshadow citizen passes out from the pain.
Lexa cackles at a Longshadow citizen!
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Rusty Cogsprocket"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Back so soon? Were you able to acquire a Questioner's gem?"
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "I was. I also heard a name that may have some connection to Tayil."
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Yes, well don't hold out too much hope of that. Not to worry, however! Once this device is fully assembled, we'll be able to pluck truths from those cultists like a crow plucks flesh from a corpse."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "That's a... graphic... analogy. But you should know: During questioning, one of the supposed Thexians uttered the name 'Maldreya'."
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Reeeeeeally... oh ho ho, this is too good to be true, Lexa. You've done a far more splendid job than I might have imagined. And you're going to do even more for me..."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "Am I?"
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 22 Gold, 12 Silver, 77 Copper for completing Nobody Expects It.
You receive an Ornate Single Freeport Bed.
You discovered an Ornate Single Freeport Bed.

Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "I do not know in what way Maldreya is involved with Tayil, but this presents you with a perfect opportunity..."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "Who is this Maldreya?"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Maldreya Darkheart, second to the Grand Inquisitor of the Dismal Rage; who else could it be? Tayil's treachery has pierced deeper than anyone imagined possible, which is why it is imperative we extract the truth of this situation quickly and decisively."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "You want me to interrogate a ranking member of the Dismal Rage?!?"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Oh, she should provide a wealth of information, I've no doubt. Just be certain you do your questioning out of sight of the rest of those priests."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "How am l to avoid being caught torturing a priest in the midst of her guild hall?!"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "I am not sending you to your doom, if that is your worry. How would it serve me if you never returned? The device should put Maldreya into a coma-like state, in which she will be most pliable to your questions. You will have to weaken her will before using it, however..."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "Weaken her will?"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Violence will serve you there. If you are quick and quiet, you can render her helpless before she realizes your intentions. The strain of the gem should leave her memory hazy afterward, allowing a quick escape."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "This sounds risky, but I must find Tayil!"
    You receive 1 Truth Extractor.
    You discovered Truth Extractor.
    You say, "Hail, Maldreya Darkheart"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "What are you doing back here? You should not be roaming these halls unsupervised."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "Actually I've come for you."
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Oh? Well state your business quickly. I have other matters to attend to."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "Oh, this will be quick..."
(equip and use the clicky Truth Extractor on her)
Maldreya Darkheart says, "What is this... what is happening to me?"
Maldreya Darkheart says, "What have you done!?"
Maldreya Darkheart is no longer worth any experience or treasure.
This encounter will no longer give encounter rewards.
    She is dead.
(this is where the quest is currently bugged for most players... when she dies for the first person, she does not appear for any players who come after that first player)
    You say, "Hail, Rusty Cogsprocket"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Ahh, the rogue returns. I trust you were not followed?"
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "No, but we have a major problem. Your device did not work."
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Inconceivable! My designs were flawless. Did you extract any useful information at all from our subject?"
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "None whatsoever. The device killed her."
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "WHAT?? You slew a ranking member of one of the most powerful factions within Freeport right in the middle of her own guild! How did you hide the body?"
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "I didn't. I came directly back to-"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Alright... Lexa, I am going in to clean up your mess. I am going to disavow all knowledge of you and your activities, however. You're on your own."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "MY mess? It was your device!"
Rusty Cogsprocket says to you, "Which surely would not have killed anyone, had it been used less carelessly. Report back to Tamara and inform her of the situation. I'll see what I can do about the Dismal Rage..."
You say to Rusty Cogsprocket, "We'll just see what the Foci has to say about this..."
You say, "Hail, Foci Tamara Paust"
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "That little gnome causin' you problems? He's very good at what he does, but more excitable than I like to deal with."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Actually, I seem to have caused him a problem."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "Oh? Do tell, but be succinct."
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "He asked me to interrogate Maldreya Darkheart, and she died in the process."
Foci Tamara Paust says to you, "I'm not even going to ask how you managed a blunder of that magnitude, darlin', and the less I know, the better. Since this is your mess, why don't you run along and clean it up?"
You say to Foci Tamara Paust, "Fine. I'll go help Rusty out."
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "What are you doing in the back here?"
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "Sorry, I... ahhh! How are you ali...?"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "How am I what? You'll need to speak up. You must be the assistant the Academy sent to us. Leave it to Paust to send me a lackwit."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "..."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 12 Gold, 5 Silver, 35 Copper for completing A Dismal Discovery.
You receive The City of Freeport's Great Port.
You discovered The City of Freeport's Great Port.

(I will post the remainder of the quest dialogue after the hotfix allows everyone to continue to questline. I don't want to spoil it for everyone. Suffice it to say that some of the characters in Freeport are not what we thought they were... and some are not as dead as we thought they were either! =D)
  16. ARCHIVED-Cocytus Guest

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering what happened if you tried to betray Kain. You end up getting screwed by the city for it, hahaha! I love it :D

My pirate was a noble pirate so he helped Kain after all. Now he's roaming with info on how to kill Wraithguards..... /scheme
  17. ARCHIVED-Iskandar Guest

Yeah, there's a few points in the series where you get to kinda choose your own path with how the story unfolds -- love that! And Lexa, being a diehard supporter of her Overlord, couldn't possibly let a traitor escape unchallenged! Helmark was just following orders, so she can forgive his "enthusiasm"... especially since he's fish food now!
I think the issues with Maldreya blocking access to the final few quests are fixed now, so I'll post the last bit of her quest dialogues on Thursday... should give folks enough time to run it for themselves without me spoilin anything
  18. ARCHIVED-Iskandar Guest

And now, the triumphant conclusion to Lexa's adventure!.................

Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Really! You look like you've seen a ghost. Pull yourself together; I'd hate to have to waste time sending out for another arcane assistant."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "Yes. My apologies... I'm still unsure..."
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "You're here to discover the truth about Tayil. The Dismal Rage is, of course, pledging Lucan its full cooperation in this matter, though I doubt you'll find traitors among us. Were it up to me, I'd take a different course."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "And what course is that?"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Tayil snatched Lucan out right under the noses of his most trusted knights. Are we to believe they knew nothing of this plot? Surely they must be questioned as well."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "Lucan would never allow it. How would one even approach a Lucanic Knight?"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Ahh, how the plot thickens... there is a Lucanic Knight here, young one. I can give you access to the back room where he is being held, should you be brave enough to question him."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "This business makes my hair stand on end. Who are you?"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "A silly question, for certain. Are you willing to lend us your arcane aid, or shall I inform Tamara of the disappointment you've been?"
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "We will see. Where can I find him?"
Maldreya Darkheart says, "Head down this hallway and enter the back room. I will lower the wards for you."
You have entered a Temple chamber.
You say, "Hail, A Lucanic Knight"
a Lucanic Knight says to you, "..."
You say to a Lucanic Knight, "I have questions for you, knight."
a Lucanic Knight says to you, "..."
You say to a Lucanic Knight, "Can you hear me in there?"
a Lucanic Knight says to you, "...ohhh... rr.."
You say to a Lucanic Knight, "I need to know about Tayil! What do you know of her, knight?"
a Lucanic Knight says to you, "Wh...errrre...?"
You say to a Lucanic Knight, "... That's what I want to know."
a Lucanic Knight says to you, "Whe...re am.... IIII..?"
You say to a Lucanic Knight, "[Jog his memory]"
    a Lucanic Knight says, "Nnnnnoooo...."
    a Lucanic Knight says, "mmmmooooooooore!"
(ruh roh! he's standing up, and none too happy!)
    a Lucanic Knight says, "Deeeaath!!!"
(after you have fought the knight a few times, several clerics, shaman, and druids of the Dismal Rage enter the room and attack the Wraithguard)
a cleric of the Dismal Rage says, "Why is the knight awake?!"
a shaman of the Dismal Rage says, "Someone has disturbed the process!"
a druid of the Dismal Rage says, "You there, leave at once, before you disrupt the transformation! We'll set the knight back to rest."
(the quest updates to tell you to flee the room while they have him distracted)
You have entered The City of Freeport.
    You say, "Hail, Maldreya Darkheart"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Ah, Lexa, just in time."
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "Do not stall, Maldreya! Lucan sensed a problem with your latest subject. Was this woodelf responsible for the disruption?"
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "Disruption? I was att-"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Calm yourself, Xolantan. Lexa was just checking in on your brother in arms. I'm sure everything was proceeding as planned?"
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "Yes. The... procedure was all in order."
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "We shall see. I have further questions for you, woodelf. Meet me in the court at Overlord's Plaza, beneath the citadel. I must speak to Maldreya in private..."
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "The stress of serving Lucan is getting to you, Xolantan. Your skin seems to be taking on a grayish tinge."
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "That is enough. We will speak more when this one has left..."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 7800 experience into AA experience!
You receive 11 Gold, 5 Silver, 38 Copper for completing Agent of Rage.
You receive a Lucanic Vase of Malice.
You discovered a Lucanic Vase of Malice.

You say, "Hail, Lucanic Knight Xolantan"
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "You are late, woodelf. Have you noticed any recent changes to Maldreya's clothing or customs? How long have you been working for her?"
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "Not long at all. I was sent to aid her by Foci Tamara."
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "How interesting. You are no initiate lackey, as she implied; that much is clear. Mind yourself of Maldreya. The Overlord does not trust her, and she has been sticking her nose into business well above her station."
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "Why did you ask me about clothing and changes to her routine?"
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "The Overlord's suspicions are his own, though your curiosity may soon be sated. You are going to aid us."
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "I am?"
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "Unless you wish to refuse a request by Lucan, which would be... unwise."
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "How will I aid you? What will I learn?"
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "Along the path from Nektulos to Neriak lies an unmarked grave, hastily dug by an assassin. You are to exhume the body within and return it to me for inspection. As to what you will learn, that depends on how clever you are. Tell no one of this mission, particularly Maldreya and the Foci."
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "I will return this body, but I expect some answers about what has been going on."
    You have entered Darklight Wood.
(follow the road from Neriak to the Commonlands)
You say, "Hail, An elven spirit"
an elven spirit says to you, "Where.. aam I? Why aare yoouuu sooo hazy??"
You say to an elven spirit, "You're looking a lot hazier than I am. You're dead."
an elven spirit says to you, "Whaaat? Whooo... hoow... I caaannot beee!"
You say to an elven spirit, "What do you last remember?"
an elven spirit says to you, "I wassss... speaking tooo a daark elfff. Shee... did something toooo meee. I haad to ruuunnn... musssst ruuuuun!"
You say to an elven spirit, "Ok, you ran away from her. Then what?"
an elven spirit says to you, "Noooo... not awwwaaay... I raaan foooor. Foor... For. Neriak. I must reach it. I MUST! NO ONE CAN STOP ME!"
You say to an elven spirit, "What!? Who are you?"
an elven spirit says to you, "Who are YOU? My would-be assassin? Nooot again! Never AGAIN!!!"
You say to an elven spirit, "Wha-"
(it attacks you at this point)
an elven spirit says, "Noo! I will... haunt theeese boones!"
Lexa has killed an elven spirit.
(attempt to gather the bones and you are told... )Those remains are still haunted. I'm not touching them.
You say, "Hail, Lucanic Knight Xolantan"
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "You do not bear the body. I am disappointed."
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "I found the grave. The apparition of the slain elf would not allow me to remove her remains."
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "What form did this apparition take? Pray tell me you did not flee before taking a good look at it."
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "I did not flee. The spirit was that of a high elf. She seemed troubled and confused about her death."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 13000 experience into AA experience!
You receive 45 Gold, 70 Silver, 17 Copper for completing Epic Assassination.
You receive Impressive Powers within Freeport.
You discovered Impressive Powers within Freeport.

Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "This does much to confirm Lucan's suspicions. You have done well Lexa. Just one more task is required of you. Maldreya is not who she seems. She must die."
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "Who is she?"
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "Perhaps it is for the best that you have not worked that out. Lucan's orders are without question, however. Disobey at your peril."
You say to Lucanic Knight Xolantan, "Fine, I will dispose of her. But then I expect answers."
Lucanic Knight Xolantan says to you, "No doubt you will find her cleaning up after her latest debacle, in the room at the back of the Temple of War."
You have entered a Temple chamber.
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Lexa, so good of you to return..."
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Did that knight tell you I'd be in here removing evidence of my involvement? No doubt he sent you to kill me, as if I would never expect that. Indeed, it is I who orchestrated every move in this little opera!"
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "I know you are not the true Maldreya."
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Of course not. The true Maldreya has departed this world; you saw to that yourself."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "I was tricked into that! Why did you want her dead?"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Dead? No, she would have been no use to me dead. The tiara I provided you with housed a gem capable of tearing a soul from the victim's body. Maldreya's soul enabled me to take her form. The other personae you aided were prior acquisitions of mine, each safe in their own little gem."
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "True illusionists have no need of souls to change their form."
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Your nescient words belie a greater intelligence. Surely you can grasp that these were no simple illusions; even you, with all your power, were unable to pierce them. But I gain more than simple appearances: voice, mannerisms... even memories become mine!"
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "... You seek power through knowledge!"
Maldreya Darkheart says to you, "Very good, Lexa. Perhaps this will be a more entertaining exercise than I had anticipated, though your wits will serve you only so well. You'll have to match them with magic and steel!"
You say to Maldreya Darkheart, "You won't find me easy prey, Opal!"
Maldreya Darkheart says, "A magician? Dispose of that thing!"
Maldreya Darkheart says, "No... how could you beat me so easily..?"
    You have killed Maldreya Darkheart.
    Thesla Blackthorne laughs maniacally.
Thesla Blackthorne says, "Did you honestly think it would be so easy?"
Thesla Blackthorne says, "I have a multitude of personae at my disposal..."
Thesla Blackthorne says, "When I take a soul, I gain ALL their memories. Combat prowess and knowledge of swordplay become mine to command!"
    Lexa has killed Thesla Blackthorne.
Rusty Cogsprocket says, "This little gnome has served me well over the decades."
Rusty Cogsprocket says, "His understanding of meta-mechanical constructs was second to none!"
Rusty Cogsprocket says, "Behold my most potent creation!"
    (Rusty summons a "Clockwork Mechnobarrier")
Rusty Cogsprocket says, "Shield me, my pet! I will destroy Lexa once and for all."
    You have killed Clockwork Mechnobarrier.
    You have killed Rusty Cogsprocket.
Maldreya Darkheart says, "The tricky thing about illusions is you can never quite be sure that they are dead!"
    You have killed Maldreya Darkheart.
(Opal herself appears in the center of the room, a 94 Epic x4 ... and I think I'm hosed at this point... o_O)
Opal Darkbriar says, "Enough! You are skillful and cunning, and that has been of much use to me."
Opal Darkbriar says, "But you seem unaware of who you are dealing with..."
Opal Darkbriar says, "Do you know how old I am? How much power I've accumulated over the centuries?"
Opal Darkbriar says, "Bear witness to my legion!"
(her captured souls begin to take form all around the room... dozens of named NPCs -- I was too busy ooooing and aaahhing to note the names tho :( )
Opal Darkbriar says, "Now... if the Overlord wishes to face me, he must do it himse-"
(two people appear at the door)
    Opal Darkbriar says, "LUCAN!"
(he is SO The Man! )
    Lexa bows to Lucan D'Lere.
Lucan D'Lere says, "Enough! Maganus, subdue her!"
Captain Maganus says, "This time you will not escape my grasp, Opal!"
Opal Darkbriar says, "Really, Lucan, why bother with this farce? I trained Maganus and his lackeys; you know well that I could crush them like bugs."
    Captain Maganus gasps for air.
Lucan D'Lere says, "But you cannot hope to face me. If you resist, I will cut you down where you stand."
Opal Darkbriar says, "It's true, my illusions would be of little use against you."
Opal Darkbriar says, "For decades I wondered what tainted spell kept your flesh in place. Your Wraithguard knights provided the final key. I now know the truth of what you are."
Lucan D'Lere says, "That changes nothing. For the aid you provided Tayil, you are sentenced to die!"
Opal Darkbriar says, "You know nothing, Overlord, and understand even less! I did not aid Tayil, and I have no desire to rule Freeport."
Lucan D'Lere says, "For the moment, I will ignore that slight. If you claim innocence in this, pray tell me why you have been seeking Tayil out."
Opal Darkbriar says, "I had hoped to curry favor by delivering her to you. She ever was the most deceitful of my acolytes, though supremely talented. I would make good use of her soul."
Lucan D'Lere says, "Favor? How did you think to worm your way back into my good graces, Opal? Have you forgotten your theft of Soulfire?"
Opal Darkbriar says, "Of that I am guilty. A miscalculation on my part; I had meant to return the sword once I'd used it to lure out a seller. Think carefully about the situation... what have I to gain by incurring your wrath?"
Lucan D'Lere says, "I do not know, Opal. You play games within games. I can never again trust you."
Opal Darkbriar says, "Nor should you. But relationships such as ours need not be built on trust. It is most beneficial to me to see you in power. You seek absolute reign, while I seek absolute knowledge. Our goals complement one another."
Lucan D'Lere says, "You seek to be the voice behind the ruler, then? You would make a puppet of me."
Opal Darkbriar says, "I have no such aspirations. My power is derived through those I absorb, and the knowledge I gain elsewise. Had I wished to harm you, I could have turned all of Freeport against you. Then what would you rule?"
Opal Darkbriar says, "Think hard on this, Overlord. You and your knights are safe from my magic, and I can be of greater use to you than even you know. What have you to fear?"
Lucan D'Lere says, "I will grant you leave to continue your search for Tayil. Should you deliver her to me, I may consider your proposal more seriously."
(he turns and heads to the door, stopping only to say...)
Lucan D'Lere says, "And Opal... bring me the real Tayil. If you drop an illusion at my feet, no pleading will save you from my wrath..."
    (he leaves)
Opal Darkbriar says, "Does he truly believe me so foolish?"
Opal Darkbriar says, "Run along, Maganus. Your master awaits..."
    Captain Maganus flees the temple.
Opal Darkbriar says to you, "And what shall I do with you, Lexa? I can hardly fault your attempt on my life, as you were merely following the Overlord's commands."
You say to Opal Darkbriar, "I have served you well. By your own logic, should you not keep me around?"
Opal Darkbriar says to you, "A keen perspective. And you seem far too willful for me to make use of your soul. If you are to continue to aid me, perhaps a reward for your continued service is in order."
You say to Opal Darkbriar, "Perhaps it is."
Opal Darkbriar says to you, "I have many preparations to make if I am to regain the Overlord's favor. I will have need of your services again, but until you are summoned you had best pretend you'd never met me. Exposing me would be the most short-lived mistake you'd ever make."
You say to Opal Darkbriar, "I see."
You gain Alternate Advancement experience by completing a quest!
You convert 15600 experience into AA experience!
You receive 24 Gold, 12 Silver, 73 Copper for completing Plots Within Plots.
You receive Scepter of Lucanic Ferocity.
You discovered Scepter of Lucanic Ferocity.

You have entered The City of Freeport.
(hey, guess who's standing right outside the door?)
    You say, "Hail, Maldreya Darkheart"
Maldreya Darkheart says, "You have served me well."
