Also dann einmal zurück zum Thema.

That's an excellent post. It sums up what is going on. Are the Developers aware of the situation?

That is another excellent post. The big question is: Are "the Powers" at Daybreak aware of the situation?

Is Valor's sunset already set in stone? Or is the future of the German language User Interface still on the negotiating table?

Sony Online Entertainment has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into bringing EverQuest II to Germany. Now a couple of managers at Daybreak want to throw it all away. That is wrong,

What is happening to the content which has already been translated? At least, let us have a Time-Locked Expansion server in German to preserve the content which is already there. (I volunteer to translate the NPC dialogues on the Isle of Refuge from English to German in case the original translations have been lost.)

@Noguchi: This is not about you and me. My first character was born in 2005 on the Isle of Refuge on Runnyeye, and I have mainly played in English ever since. However, friends of mine play this game on Valor because they speak German. I quoted Fredbear above because he said the truth. This thread is about a declining population.

As I do occasionally play on Valor (not often, but occasionally), it is my perception that Valor has a better population than Splitpaw during EU prime time. I recommend that Valor should be left alone. It is my advice to the Developers that Valor should continue as the (only) remaining Non-English server.

The entire purpose of the server merge vanishes into thin air if you drive off approximately 80% of the player base on the healthier server. The new "consolidated" server will then only have the population which Valor had before the merge.

I seriously doubt that this is good business. As Uwkete and I have jointly suggested, Daybreak can cut costs by asking for volunteer assistance from the community (for example to have the next expansion properly translated).

This is a management issue. I am participating in this thread because I am seriously worried that poor management at Daybreak will eventually ruin this splendid game. I am not personally affected because I transferred my main toon from Valor to Skyfire years ago, but I worry about friends who still play on Valor and who will leave the game. I try to offer constructive solutions. If you pick up my idea of a German TLE server, I'll gladly help with any translation issues that may arise.

Is there anyone at Daybreak who can understand these posts not in English?

I sympathize with the non English speaking community, but I think your arguments no matter what language has already fallen on deaf ears.

Well, they didn't even bother posting this in any language but English, did they? Kinda sad.

The physical servers are in Amsterdam. And as we merge the servers we will be forming the hardware into a single megaserver. .

And now it's time to switch to a language that the most of the players will understand.

I am really not sure if the discussion between Ingerimm and Sunje would be of relevance concerning the topic regarding argumentation or alike.

    To break it down :
    - Ingerimm's arguments have been posted in english by himself before and he discusses them with Sunje. He is against the Merge.
    - Sunje is fluent in english and german and works for an english speaking company (as far as i followed). He or She sees an opportunity in getting better in english for those who play and points out the relevance of the english language in many parts IRL... He/She is pro merge and plays on multiple servers in EU and US ...

    ---------------------

    --> (translation)
I think its positive that also people post in german, especially those who are not fluent in english, so that they can be heard and they are able to post their sight of view. But i pointed out that i think that they went "off-topic" and that they should stick back to it ^^

Interesting there are very few posts in French. Also, it would be nice if the posters would mention the mmo games out there with full multi-language support. A few of the posters use comments such as 'like all other mmos out there, or all new mmos, etc.'

The ones I've found have mentioned real difficulty in implementing multi-language servers and/or discuss various nation laws regarding servers owned by another nation, etc.

Odd, eight months working on a software project in Munchen and I did not see or hear the degree of rudeness and/or bullying attitudes I see exhibited by some of the posts on this thread.

You absolutely right Ommnom, it was offtopic.

What about a transfer from US to EU. I have EU characters from Darathar (EU PVP server). They was transferred to Venekor, to Nagafen and now to Skyfire (a PVE server). Can I transfer for free my characters again to an EU server? All in all, If I can't play in a PVP server I wanna play in a EU server.

To our German friends: Don't panic, give it a try first.

Raided for years with a German off tank that knew no english. Worked out just fine with the help of someone to translate. Eventually we all learned some German, and they all learned some English. We also had swedes, french, spanish, dutch, norweigans ect. Best Guild Ever....

Why not speak Esperanto? In order to support wide adoption your characters get sent to Drunder if you don't speak it.

If Daybreak are like Sony they wouldn't appreciate someone giving a list of the competition on their forums.

As I say in many times a day in my job "Google ist Ihr Freund" I just googled and got a number of sites listing and rating MMORPGs with German support, some small, some huge and many inbetween.

I have played a few which offer multi language support on single servers, one in particular even supports latin and cyrilic characters, but then it was developed by a Russian company. I played randomly with a german or english language client on the same server after they did exactly what daybreak are doing here and consolidated various EU servers into one mega server.

I work for one of the larger hosting companies in Europe and have some insight into the legal side. The legal issues usually relate to national or international data protection laws which can be an issue with payment data or server location but not with client language support. Client language support is a development issue, it depends heavily on how the client was programmed in the first place.

To the people who think German or French speakers should "give english a go", client localization is important to many people on the French and German servers, currently they enjoy playing, if every game session turns into a school homework session just to follow the next step in a quest it stops being fun to play and they go elsewhere.
