Not so. If you dropped to bronze from gold you would lose access to the number of characters that is difference between what is granted by the different memberships. i.e 7 for gold, 4 for silver and 2 for bronze. The characters would be locked, not deleted, and it would lock the least recently used ones. If you have a grandfathered all-access account the difference would be even more (at one point all-access granted 12 slots).

In your example with 10 characters, since that is 3 above standard gold I will assume you bought 3 extra slots. Going to bronze would drop that to 5, with 5 locked. Unless you bought more than the 3 and have unused slots.

(Actually I think you would probably go to silver, but the point is the same.)

everything gets grandfathered in and you don't lose anything. If my accounts were new, then i would lose access to 3 toons by dropping to silver. however, i had my toons before the ftp was in effect. the only accounts that i would lose access to my toons now are on the eq2 accounts. but on the eq1 accounts, where i would lose no toons, i would instantly lose access to my j5 mercs, most of my armor benefits, some of my aas - to mention a few things. that would be totally unacceptable and those are the reasons i stay gold.

my co-leader went silver for a week once and lost access to his mains. he hated it. yeah on eq2 you lose access to your toons and on eq1 you only lose access to the ones created after ftp went into effect.

If you purchased an extra character slot for cash and they took this away from you regardless of the level subscription they would be open to legal ramifications. If taken to court, I assure you they would lose this case. But who would file a claim for $10 or $20. Class action though, that could add up...

You do not lose access to any purchased character slots. You DO lose access to the difference between the base number of slots for the sub levels. The toons you logged in least recently, being the ones that are 'locked' until you resub or by more slots. Sambril explained it well.

I don't know how many characters you have on each of your Station Pass ($19.95/mo) accounts. I know at one time you could have 12, while the standard Gold gave you 7. That's all I meant, but I don't know how many characters you have. If you dropped from Station Pass to EQ2 Gold, then naturally you would lose all the Gold type stuff in EQ Live.
I'm not saying it's a perfect solution, but it was a way to save $4 that might or might not be that painful.

If there were enough people in the Platform team at SOE to go around, then we'd have in-game chat from 3rd party clients and OAuth for EQ2U by now. These delays are understandable to me considering just how small SOE's Platform team is and how many games they are trying to launch and support and phase out all at the same time. Again, I am not excusing anyone, but I understand the situation.

Out of curiosity, if anyone could answer. Is Gold currently the highest level of sub at the minute? Because the pop up when you attempt to use the broker states you need a gold/platinum account.

I don't remember seeing it the previous times my sub/krono thing ran out so i thought i'd ask.
  9. suka Well-Known Member

you don't lose the slots you bought, but the original slots for silver on eq1 is 6 and on eq2 is 4. when computing what you lose, you would consider that in eq2 you get 6 slots as gold and that makes you lose 2. in eq1 you get 8 slots. so you would lose two toons unless you were grandfathered in with ftp. Those two you lose will be the ones you played last- usually your mains.

Yes, gold subs are the highest currently available. Platinum was only available when Freeport was it's own entity (Everquest 2 Extended or whatever it was). After everything went Free to Play platinum subs were discontinued but those who were already on the platinum sub could continue paying for it, however after the 'free access to expansions while you have a plat sub' was discontinued it became nothing more than a really expensive gold sub, so I don't know that anyone kept paying for it after that point. I think they were completely discontinued after a year or so.

not really sure what the platinum account means. unless it is all access. gold and all access are the highest we have at the moment. there used to be another level if i remember correctly but it was phased out.

i think perhaps they try to make things as attractive to people as possible and promise way more than is feasible to do in such a short time. When something gets pushed back once, we figure they ran into a problem they had to fix. but repeated pushbacks are a turn-off. It would be way better, in my opinion, to offer the most important stuff - like the all access, as fast as possible and then add the rest as they can- maybe as a weekly thing or something. That way we get to enjoy the more important parts and just wait a short while for the rest.

Instead, they offer a huge package with a lot of neat stuff, and then find they can't put it all together so quickly. I would much rather they gave me the most important stuff right away and then added in the rest. I would think perhaps the all access is way easier to set up that the other options they offered.

I like all of the options, but i would prefer they promised only what they can deliver instead of crawfishing when they run into problems. also a little more communication on what the problem actually is may be helpful.

I currently have two Gold accounts, one with 20 slots and another with 16 slots. I had the old Station Access accounts which granted 12 slots, several I purchased, and several I got through LoN cards. When the old Station Access accounts were phased out I kept all my character slots. I expect the same will happen with the new All Access accounts. And I expect that even if I went Silver I would still have all my character slots since my basic 12 slots were Grandfathered in.

In contrast, on my grandkid's accounts which were Gold, and not All Access, did drop from seven to four slots when they were converted to Silver and should increase to seven slots when I upgrade them to All Access.

You got to keep the 5 extra slots from your old All-Access even after dropping to gold? Or did you just continue on with all-access? I ask because I most certainly lost my extra slots from the old all access when I dropped to just gold (stopped playing most other games for a while so no point in keeping the all-access). I had to repurchase the character slots to access those characters. Jealous if you did hehe, would have saved me a bit of money.

The thing everyone needs to keep in mind with character slots is you should not lose any you have paid for.
Current gold is 7 +however many you buy/get from cards
The new all-access will be the same, 7 + however many you bought/won
    Silver is 4+ those bought/won
    Free is 2 + those bought/won

For example I have a gold sub, 27 character slots. If I were to stop paying after all-access goes through I will have access to the last 24 characters that I logged in since I would be grandfathered into silver access.

I, and supposedly everyone else, kept their 12 character slots when SOE forced us out of Station Access (old All Access) but if you dropped to Gold before they canceled it you would lose the five extra slots. It sounds like bad timing for you to have dropped to Gold when you did, but you probably did save a bunch of money in the long run.

    Some nice potential changes but...

    Just a few side questions:

    1. When if any does the dev staff plan to make a pass at doing the much rumored and often stated by a number of devs since the last round of revamps the proposed next round of character revamp to address overwhelming number of issues on all classes that were left unaddressed and obsolete?
    2. When, if any, does the dev staff plan to correctly address the outstanding issues with regards to both shamans and clerics (shaman wards and cleric reactives) and their issues of either being ignored by current raid and group content or are underpowered and are completely ineffective (creates its own subset of issues if aa/prestige are added to boost them and they are not up long enough for the subset boost's to be in effect). After all the xpac is nearly over?
    3. When, if any, does the dev staff plan to address the issues on raid armor/gear (4/4 OP potent > 1/1 Energized).

I'm aware the dev staff is currently overworked but some more communication to the community would go along way to mitigate tempers and respark interest.

Nothing here or that is planned can make up for the incompetent decisions made by the developers and SOE as a whole. They've succeeded in destroying a server so much that Illuminati moved from Nagafen to AB. With all the others that have left in the recent weeks since the last "update" there are no targets to go after with PVP. You've effectively killed a server, reduced SOE revenue and if you worked for me, I'd have termed you on the spot after the epic failure of making it impossible to kill the towers in WF. How does something get IN the system that wasn't in Beta? You expect us to believe that? You took our money for 10 plus years and then don't care if you kill off a server? Well, look at my account...it's closed as of today as I'm sure a lot more players have done as of recent. NOT a DIME until you start paying attention to those that help pay your wages. I'll gladly go offer my money to other companies in other games that listen to what their players want because they are SMART enough to know that their livelihoods come from a successful product! I certainly hope your bosses see this and work towards the immediate replacement of the developers for EQ2. Enough is enough! Pay attention to your livelihood! Things you could work on that might make me return?

    Fix WF towers
    Fix overpowered power drains
Bring back the procs (yes it's work, we know, but that's why they call it WORK!)
Lastly, listen to the other complaints on here to improve the nagafen population!

that's the thing - you would NOT have access to the last 24 characters. the ones taken away will be the ones you last logged in on. I think this may be soe's way of forcing you to go back to gold because most people logged in on their mains last and who wants to play silver without their mains.
