Cant decide what to play

    Hello

I've played eq2 a few times since launch but never really got past the lvl35 range. I always seemed to get distracted by what ever new mmo was coming out. However im finding with the newer mmo's the communities are all turning into wow with lots of trolls, no grouping, no socialising within a guild etc

So ive decided to come back to eq2 and really settle in for the long haul. However i cant seem to decide on a class to play, the two choices i had (swashbuckler, zerker DPS) seem to not be favoured for end game content. I would like something that is dps based, good for leveling and needed in end game raiding.

    all suggestions welcome!

The community here may not be that much better than other games, although with it being older we do get less people coming over to try it so that may help lessen trolls somewhat.

The two classes you mentioned are vastly different, and tbh zerker here while able to do some dps isnt exactly a dps class that people will be seeking for raid dps. If you are limiting yourself to strictly free classes, you may have some difficulty finding a raid spot since there tends to be an overabundance of those classes(in truth, dps itself is over represented in this game and highly competitive as it is). Most guilds these days are looking for utility classes, for example troubador/dirge and coercer/illusionist.

Having said that, pick what you want to play and find a guild willing to work with you. If you are even slightly skilled and willing to learn to raid leaders you can be almost anything nowadays as many times it is dependable bodies raid forces need.

Of your two choices though, swashbuckler is more dps, though the zerker will solo far easier to max level.

If you can tolerate learning to play a utility or healer well they are very desirable end-game even for non-raids. If you want to play a dpstank play a Shadowknight or Paladin.

    Thank you for the responses.

I do plan on paying for a subscription just have to wait until payday on friday. :)

I had never even considered a support class and i really enjoyed playing them in Rift so that could be a very good idea.

I've been playing for eight years (mostly, just got my 8 year vet reward because I have taken a few breaks over the years) and I still can't decide what I want to play. That's what alts are for.

I happen to love zerkers personally, especially when the person behind them knows when and where to fire up their temps. Zerkers are great Heroic tanks (probably won't ever get an MT spot in raid forces though), and they are absolutely terrifying on the frontline of a pvp group- imo and a lot of other people, Zerkers are hands down the best tank for pvp grouping, whether in a BG or openworld. I play on Nagafen server, and there really aren't any Swashie's playing endgame, people usually prefer Brig's since AoE fights are rare. The previous posters are right however, if you want to get into groups or raid forces quickly go with a support class, as there aren't enough of them and they are absolutely necessary for a lot of the content.
