An eq1 lore primer

I wrote this in another post, but figured with a lot of people new to the eq universe, a primer guide to eq1 lore to "get up to speed" would be appropriate.

Now because I'm feeling generous and bored, I'm going to give you a brief primer of lore of eq1, here goes (note these are by THEMES, not necessarily cronological):

    THE CREATION

Veeshan the mother of all dragons, was sailing through the void when she uncovered an undiscovered planet. Being the first to discover it, she claimed it as her own, and created her children, the dragons of Norrath. To mark the planet, she raked her claws across the southern continent, making huge cavernous gashes across it (note, veeshan is HUGE, her one claw was the size of a continent). These claw marks became known as cobalt scar on velioust
The other gods, discovering this, decided to add their own races to the world. Brell added the dwarves, bristlebane the halflings and gnomes, tunare the elves, mithanial marr the frogloks and barbarians (who, as an aside, later united in one society under ruler antonious bayle the first and formed the human city of qeynos...barbarians are the same, genetically, as humans, but one group comes from a harsher, less civilized enviornment, where as humans are the offshoot of the barbarian tribes that settled qeynos originally). Cazic Thule added the Tae Ew lizard men, and the shissar etc etc. Thus was the world populated. Not all gods created a race, but rather existed as higher powers, such as the elemental gods, who bound all of it together.

    THE TRIALS OF ELVES

The elven race (before splitting into wood elf/high elf) populated an area known as Takish'Haz in what would be in EQ2, an area of the commonlands. Solusek ro, god of flame (and son of fennin ro, elemental god of fire), being and evil S.O.B., turned his power onto them, scorching their homeland, and turning Takish'Haz into a desert....known as the Desert of Ro on EQ1, an area that doesn't REALLY exist in EQ2 but, for continuality, is in the commonlands area. In EQ1, with the release of the Lost Dungeons of Norrath expansion, you can actually explore areas of Takish'Haz, now over run by elementals, and derranged elves. The elves mgrated to Faydwer, a continent east of freeport, where also the dwarves and gnomes lived, and settled into two areas, Kelithan, the tree city of the wood elves, and the city of the high elves, which I forget the name.

To add insult to injury, Innorruk god of hate, to get a dig in on his enemy, tunare, goddess of nature, kidnapped the king and queen of the elves (her creation) and, over decades, tortured them, both physically, and mentally. This warped both their bodies, and psychies, transforming them into a good nature loving race, into the tier'dal (dark elves), physically different than elves, and filled with the hateful rage of the god of hate.

    OF DRAGONS

When veeshan created her brood on velious (the icy southern continent), the dragons formed their own society in worship of her. They settled in the city they made of skyshrine, and built and elaborate temple to her, the temple of veeshan (which for its time was a VERY high level zone). The original dragons, the "first brood" were the most powerful of the society. Zlandicar, Klandicar, Yelniak, Sontalak, Hsraga, and others. Yelniak was their leader. For a time, all was good in velious, until an event happened, so big, it deserves its own heading

OF KERAFYM AND THE WAR OF DRAGONS

Dragons come in two types, red, and white. It was decreed a white and red dragon should NEVER mate, as the offspring would be extreemly powerful, TOO powerful.....well, it happened. A red and white dragon mated (it never states specifically who, at least in eq1) and produced their offspring, a dragon named kerafym, a great prismatic dragon of incredible power. Well, kerafym KNEW he was strong, and basically launched a civil war against yelniak, spearheaded by Jaled'Dar, another dragon. This war raged, Jaled'Dar and his armies (this is where I'm fuzzy, I'm NOT sure if Jaled'Dar and his cronies simply wanted Kerafym to lead them over Yelniak, or if they considered Kerafym their new god, over the original veeshan, I'm inclined to believe the second, and will stick with that), versus Yelniak and the followers of Veeshan. THe war raged until Yelniak finally managed to capture Kerafym and imprison him, he was too powerful to kill. He was kept in eternal sleep by four dragon warders, and imprisoned in a tomb, the door sealed by the essence of the powerful first brood dragons. In FACT, to GET to the sleeper's tomb, you need to get a key, which is given by turning in a talisman that drops off the first brood dragons that existed in game, klandicar, zlandicar, sontalak, yelniak (or a shard of hsraga's talisman which we'll get to later). On an aside, later on, zlandicar turned feral, feasting off the corpses of other dragons, and was banished to the dragon necropolis.

As for Jaled'Dar and his followers who waged the war, they were banished off Velious, to the tropical continent of Kunark, and settled in an area they called veeshan's peak. This is a good segue into kunark history, so lets go there, we'll return to velious later.

OF THE SHISSAR, IKSAR, SARNAK, TRAKANON, AND THE SATHIRS

On Kunark, there existed a race of humanoid snake people, the bodies of giant snakes with forearms that walked upright on their tales, covered in scales. They were an insidious race, powerful, and cruel. They inslaved another race of the iksar (similar to shissar, but rather a lizard race, with legs, and a tail, also covered in scales), and studied necromancy and dark magics. They grew so powerful that they began to challenge the gods themselves. In punishment, cazic thule (at least it's believed to be him) sent the curse of the greenmist, a dense green fog that dissolved the scales, burned the lungs, and basically destroyed almost all the shissar. Using the last of their great magic, the Shissar teleported themselves, the last that remained, along with some iksar slaves, off of Norrath on to the moon of Luclin (we'll go back to luclin later).

The iksar, now free, turned out to be no better than the shissar. A great necromancer, Venril Sathir, united the various factioned iksar tribes (for the sake of completion, those tribes were: Kylong, Nathsar, Obulus, Jarsath and Kunzar, Venril was from the Kunzar tribe, the most powerful of the 5). As Venril Sathir aged, he turned to necromancy to perserve his life, but the ritual was stopped prematurely by his sone Rile, and with the ritual only half complete, venril was turned into a mindless undead. An amulet, containing Venril's soul (which was supposed to be returned back to the undead form, which is what rile screwed up) was spirited away to an underground dungeoun known as charasis, by venril's loyalists, charasis is also the tomb of venril's wife druzila

Rile Sathir shied away from necromancy, and prefered the power of a strong military, constructing a huge army, and a powerful naval fleet. This caught the attention of the dragons exiled to kunark (remember them?) and one of the greatest, trakanon, was sent to sink the fleet. He conjured up a huge storm and sunk most of it, and went into direct battle with Rile himself on the king's ship. Rile was killed, but Trakanon became mortally wounded. He flew off to the abandoned city of Sebilis, and enslaved the local froglok population. He used his dark magic to perserve his life, as a semi dead dragon.

With Rile dead, HIS son Atrebe Sathir, resumes control, and like his grandfother Venril, turned to necromancy and dark arts. He used his powers to create a warrior slave race, mixing dragon and iksar to create the sarnak. Additionally he created a winged mount, the name of which I dont know, and created a giant arial army. He turned this on the dragons of Veeshan's Peak, and just sparked a war that would decimate both sides. The war ended in a giant arial battle over Cabalis the iksar capital. Atrebe battled Jaled'Dar, and they killed each other. The corpses of the dragons fell to the ground, covering the earth, and the area became known as the field of bone.

With no clear leader, the iksar fell into civil war, plagued both by infighting, occassional dragon strikes, and a revolt of the sarnak. Their vast empire crumbled, and they retreated to cabalis. Now to return to velious in the story, but first I need to explain something

    OF THE RALLOSIAN WARS

Rallos zek, in the creation, created several races, orcs, goblins, ogres, and giants. Deciding to seek supremacy, he led those armies into a vast war on the world, and the gods. The gained so much power they almost breached the home of the gods themselves. In retaliation, the gods cursed these races into ruin, the vast empires collapses into shells of their former selves, the ogre and giant empires collapses into fractions of what they were.

OF THE OTHER EVENTS IN VELIOUS

With that said, one of the giant civilizations that remained was the frost giants of velious. The giants and dragons waged a constant war, and the king of the giants slew Hsraga (remember her?) the bride of Yelniak (remember him?). Her talisman was shattered, and pieces of it could be found on vairous raid targets in the giant city of Kael Drakkel King Tormak, the son of the giant ruler who killed hsraga, used her skull as his throne.

Later in this, a dwarven expidition landed on velious...or rather was shipwrecked. Stranded far from home, with no means back (dwarves have neither wizards nor druids in eq1, so teleport spells were impossible), they formed their own society, known as the coldain dwarves. The dwarves and giants ended up in their own war. So the climate of it was giants against dwarves and dragons, with the dwarves and dragons being more or less indifferent to each other.

    OF THE ERUDITES

In qeynos, there began a sect, started by a man named erud, who preached enlightenment and intellectual pursuits. He led an exodus from qeynos across the ocean, and settled in an area he called erudin, and those that went with him called erudites. Seeking intellectual pursuits and magic over brute strength, they were profound magic users. But they factionalized, with some studying the "dark arts" of necromancy. These heritics split off, and a civil war ensued. The good erudites turned a weapon on them of intense magic energy. The first attempt missed, hitting a civilization of cat people known as kerrans, the energy created a rift that transported them to the moon. The second attempt hit, and blew a hole in the earth, a deep tunnel, which destroyed the original evil settlement (though they rebuilt on the edges of the hole).

    OF THE COMBINE EMPIRE

During this turmoil, there rose the combine empire, an attempt to bring together all races in one, united empire. This combine empire spred across the land, and caused a great era of peace, but it all fell. The leader of the combine empire, a human bard named katta, made attempts to intigrate the dark elves into the empire, which aggrevated several in the empire. Lord Seru, a high up "paladin" who was really a purist zealot, led an assassination attempt, katta was poisoned and fell into a deep coma.

Without him, the empire split into factions, the katta loyalists wanting a overarching free society, and the Seru loyalists, wanting the empire free of the "dark races". Seru's followers won out, and the empire shattered. A few of katta's followers, led by his wife Lucrecia, used a powerful force of magic to bring themselves to...you guest it, the moon. And since we've talked about the moon, let's make it a catagory.

    OF LUCLIN AND THE OUTSIDERS.

Katta's followers expected to land on the surface, but some strange dark magic misdirected their transporter spells, and landed them instead in a deep cavern. Moreover, they couldn't get BACK. There they split. Some decided to not leave, remain underground and find a way back to norrath. Others fearing that Seru would be in hot persuit, struck out on their own to escape.

They were right, and Seru and his armies arrived, in the same place, and in the same situation. Those armies also split. Some remaining behind to try to get back, others striving out to seek out Katta and his loyalists. Those that remained behind were initially wary of each other, working only for common good. As the generations passed, and the lines faded, the two groups began to intermingle, and intermarry, and eventually all political differences were lost. Eventually they gave up on the idea of returning, as they began to view their underground city on luclin as their real home. Combined together, they named their city in the combine language as "a haven from the shadows", or, simply, shadowhaven, a zone in eq1 on luclin.

The initial combine empire loyalists who fled ended up crossing the moon, and built their home in an area called the twighlight sea, calling it Katta Collosilum, a combination of a castle city, and a colloseum for the comatose Katta. Those loyalists of Seru, along with their leader, formed Sanctus Seru, the Seru Sanctum, the two societies were openly hostle to each other for years, and in fact, in eq1, a series of quests given by Lucrecia ultimitly culminated in the killing of Lord Seru.

The Katta who were blasted to the moon settled their own home, called Shar Val, and maintained peaceful relations with Shadowhaven.

The Shissar were ALSO on the moon (review shissar history if you forgotten). They build a great temple, and surround it in a powerful magic barrier, an artificial vacuum devoid of all air, so to avoid a resurgence of the green mist. In eq1 the area outside the temple is called the Grey, and you can't breath in it..

But there was another, native race on Luclin, the Akheva, and they deserve their own section

    OF THE AKHEVA

The native race of Luclin, formed by the goddess Luclin, goddess of shadows, humanoid creatures with 4 arms, they were skeptical of the first new races on Luclin (the kerran). Their leader wanted to make peace with them, and in an effort to do so, urged her people to learn the common tounge language. The akheva, a very xenophobic race, rejected this, and another akheva known as Aten Ha Ra lead a civil war (civil wars are common in eq history). The initial akhevan leader was forced out of the akhevan home city (vex thal) and settled in an area that was caled in eq1, the akhevan ruins (not ruins then).

Aten Ha Ra summoned a giant storm, shattering the outpost, and making it ruins. The first rules staff, the key to the entry way, was shattered and the pieces thrown across the moon. This storm ravaged the land, and created an area called the Maiden's Eye, a wasteland wrecked by the magic. THe eq1 quest for the key to vex thal consisted of gathering the 10 shards of the staff, as well as the ornamental sphere on top of it, and reforming it with a great magic power (the great power was, in game terms, a planar rift, dropped by the leader of the shissar in ssra temple, who required his OWN key, which made the vex thal key the unholy [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] of eq1).

How's this relate to EQ2? Well, after the mortals breached the planes in The Planes of Power expansion of EQ1, the gods, upset with this, withdrew from the world entirely. Rallos Zek once again led an invasion of his creatures, the orcs, and seiged freeport. He was aided by solusek ro (god of flame, these two have worked together) in a seige of qeynos.

Lucan, a political entity, made a pact with the paladins of freeport to ward off the invasion, and, after the success, turned against the paladins, exiling/killing them, and claimed freeport as his own.

The exodus of the gods apparently caused massive ecological disasters, leading to the overal change of geography. In addition, in recent eq2 lore, the moon has exploded, by causes yet unknown.

SO there's a primer of eq1 lore, hope it helps.

That's a fantastic writeup, thanks! Left eq1 just after Kunark and missed most of that. Great Job!

You are wrong about the elves moving to Fayder after the destruction of thier home. They went north and settled on the shores of Winter's Deep, and the cities of Feyspires and Tethilin. Here they live for a few hundred years until driven from thier homes. This is when the elves relocated across the sea to the land of Faydwer.

This is from the ore made in the Everquest Online adventures for the PS2... But also it was not Solusek that drove the elves from thier frist home but the war with the Dark Elves, And again Solusek is not god of fire he is the son of Fenin Ro the Tyrant of Fire...

Also there is lore missing there dealing with the orges... This comes from the Lords of Everquest... But the orges where once the most intelligent creatures upon norrath, and very skilled in the arcane arts. In the arrogance they pissed off the wrong god and where thus reduced to the stupid beings they are today. I forget much of the lore I read but i will try to dig it up at the LoE site.

Here is a bit for you

As the Age of Blood draws to a close, it is a time of great upheaval.

In Neriak, the Teir'Dal plot to seize the glory that once belonged to Takish'Hiz. Forming a blood pact with a band of shipwrecked Iksar fleeing their Shissar slavers, the Dark Elves set out to find other disaffected warriors. Pooling the resources of a half-dozen monstrous nations, the Teir'Dal found a dark alliance--the Shadowrealm....

    Deep Back History

We have for a long time known the Ogres have not always been as they are. It is common knowledge that in the twilight years of the Elder Age they commanded tremendous sorcerous powers and held sway over much of the continent once called Tunaria. So great in power did the Ogres grow that eventually they were capable of invading even the Plane of Earth where they battled the elemental gods who therein dwelled. But great as their powers were, they were unequal to the task of slaying the Council of Rathe.

Angered at the failures of his Ogre creations, the warlord god Rallos Zek led his own invasion of the Plane of Earth seeking to finish what his minions could not. Rallos too was turned aside by the greater gods and was banished back to the plane over which he ruled, barred forever from physical interaction with the other planes or the world of Norrath. To punish Rallos for his presumption and his children for their excesses, the Council of Rathe thus cursed the Ogres, Orcs and Giants, taking from them their exceptional gifts of intelligence and scattering them across all the world.

Here is where the orthodox history ends. For long and long, we have held these facts as the whole truth regarding the fall of the Ogres and the exile of Rallos Zek. But what has not been passed down to future generations and what has been expunged from the memories of all those who lived in the infamous Lost Age is that before fleeing the Plane of Earth the Ogres stole great secrets of power and brought them back to Norrath.

Though the Council of Rathe pursued the Ogres' lost prizes and sought to erase the forbidden knowledge the Ogres had obtained, much still evaded the Council's grasp. Artifacts, scrolls, and many other great treasures went down into the dark places of the earth, becoming old wives' tales, legends...myths. While the intellect of his children grew ever dimmer with each passing year, Rallos Zek extended his influence to see that their stolen secrets would be preserved. Someday an army worthy of his patronage would rediscover them. Someday he would have his revenge....

Here is a bit of the past as well.

It had been long argued among the sentient races of Norrath that the Elves, the children of Tunare, were the first of the races to wield the art of wizardry. So stated Aros`Thalinor, an ancient bit of evidence supporting that theory.

It was difficult to find any buildings of mortal make older than the Rosethorn Spire (or Aros`Thalinor in the Elven tongue). None knew its exact age; in fact, no one was even certain if it was constructed by the Elves. There were Elven influences to be found in the architecture; but whether this was inherently Elven, or a foreign influence that the elves eventually copied, was unknown. The spire was ancient indeed, but the elves had expanded upon it. They used their powerful magic to guide the black stone into useful shapes. A balcony was formed in recent years. Below the spire the Elves also shaped the surrounding stone, creating the many vaults that hold much of the artifacts and knowledge of the Koada`Dal wizards. During these recent excavations, the elves found a strange room carved from the same black stone, but of vastly different architecture. The style of the wall carvings was completely foreign to the exploring elves and had stumped all scholars. In addition to the room, a sarcophagus and an arch were found. Both were carved from a stone not found anywhere on Antonica. The mystery of the tomb held the attention of many elven scholars and historians for nearly a century.

During this century, the destruction of the Elddar forest fell upon the Elven nation. Attention veered from the tomb’s mystery to more important endeavors, such as saving the life of the dying forest and fighting off the sudden incursions of a new race of blackened Elves from the Underfoot.

Aros`Thalinor fell into peril. The advance of the embittered Teir`Dal proved to be too strong for the elves, especially after suffering under the jealous hands of Solusek Ro. The Spire was in grave danger. It held all of the accumulated knowledge of Elven wizardry that tutored all talented Elves choosing to walk the path of the wizard. But, wizardry was no paltry pursuit. The masters of the Spire brought the awesome power of the weave itself to bear against whatever horde that the dark elves hurled at them. Subconsciously, the master wizards knew that, if they so had desired, Aros`Thalinor could be moved. The whole of the island could be torn from the land and sent floating among the clouds, sailing to far off Faydwer where their cousins settled after fleeing the dying forest so many years ago. They decided to await the march of these spiteful elves and defend the Spire.

Only the arrogance of the elves doomed Rosethorn and the wizards that held it. The foul art of necromancy was known to the elves but none dared delve into it; the costs were too high. And the Teir`Dal knew these costs as well. They also knew of necromancy’s destructive power. The dark elves decided that acquiring the power was worth the cost. Through the necromantic arts, a legion of dead warriors was raised to assault Aros`Thalinor. The legion of undead joined with living warriors from Neriak. They fell upon the Spire, and were slaughtered as the Elven wizards’ wards held them off. From atop the Spire, the wizards rained down the greatest firestorm that the world had ever seen. Thunderheads of roaring flame swept across field of battle, incinerating all life (and unlife). Lightning poured from the clouds and streaked across the skies, ensnaring the dark Elven army in a web of crackling blue energy. An entire legion of undead and living became heaps on the ground, or floating bodies in the Lifire river threatening to choke and flood the area. The Elven wizards, high atop their Spire, looked down upon the carnage and were satisfied with their work. They believed that the surviving Teir`Dal generals and their inferior necromancers would eventually flee after realizing what had happened. But the wizards were wrong. The necromancers did not fled. In a few moments after the battle, they began to laugh.

“They are insane with rage from their defeat” thought the wizards of the Spire. When the laughing ceased, the master necromancer declared his victory over Aros`Thalinor. His deep booming voice carried magically to the ears atop the Spire.

“Fools!” cried the wizards. But the necromancer had the last laugh. He told the wizards that they were doomed.

The art of necromancy was power over life and death. A life could be snuffed out as easily as a body could be raised to unlife. Poisoning was used extensively in necromancy, souring the flesh and draining life from it. Anything could be poisoned: water, air, sand, and even mana, the substance of magic, itself. The Elven faces blanched as they fully realized the incredible power of the Teir`Dal, to taint mana itself, the aether, the weave that all magic drew life from. The necromancers announced they would leave and then return to claim the Spire after the fool wizards died off. The elven wizards fell to their knees in disbelief and lamented their folly.

Despite the Spire’s tragic downfall, it was still an awe-inspiring sight that continued to exist as a center for learning and development; even though the wild rosebushes that once surrounded it were now dry and withered. Many wizards still traveled from afar to learn from the potent keepers of the Spire. Even Teir`Dal wizards were welcomed, though necromancers and the art of necromancy were reviled. All but four of the wizards of the Spire were dead in their tombs. The remaining wizards were dying and would soon join their fallen brothers even though they labored to undo the poisoning. Only the necromancers prevented the wizards from venturing into the vaults to research the poison still coursing through their veins. Instead the wizards relied on adventurous wizards from other lands to claim the books and artifacts from the vaults. The wizards of Aros`Thalinor had been known to give advanced lessons to those who had the talent and to those who helped in their struggles. If a wizard wished to gain a deeper understanding of the endless mana sea, it was Aros`Thalinor that he or she traveled to. Newcomers would be tested to the limits of their ability; but their greatest challenge was to overcome the overwhelming sadness and anger that permeates the Spire of Rosethorn.

    Yet even more...

    Holciel Rowen`dal
    as documented by Lyriam Kaelean,
Guildmaster of the College of High Magic, Fayspire

When a village, town, or city is built, the builders must take into consideration not only the living occupants, but also the dead. Takish`Hiz was no exception. Off to the west, within the Serpent’s Spine, the tomb and catacombs of Takish`Hiz were built. It was named Holciel Rowen`dal, roughly translating to Tomb of the Crown.

For hundreds of years the honored dead of Takish`hiz were brought to Holciel Rowen`dal and laid to rest. Commoners, lesser nobles, nobles of houses close to the throne, and royalty were all brought to the tomb, carried there by family members and servants along the Road of the Dead in great processions. The tomb was divided among the social castes and each elf had his place.

After the forest of Elldar fell to the advance of the burning sands, most of the elves of Takish`Hiz left Tunaria for new lands, desperate to escape the wrath of the spiteful god who envied Tunare and her creations. Not all left however. Many remained, believing that the forest could be restored to its former glory. Though hundreds died and their bodies were swallowed by the sands, hundreds more were taken to Holciel Rowen`dal. In these dark times the Tomb was visited now more than ever, and even though the sands buried the Road of the Dead, the elves still remembered its path.

Takish`Hiz remained, under the oppression of the desert’s intense heat and biting sands. The elves were forlorn as experiments to restore Elldar were unsuccessful. Their numbers dwindled year after year, the elves now desperate. It was then that the Teir`dal appeared and made war on Takish`Hiz, the home of their ancient enemies. With Al`Karad’s defeat, Takish`Hiz was doomed. Great battles were fought, but in the end the tide of darkness that were the Teir`dal overcame the elves, slaughtering all who could not escape.

The dark elves began the looting and defiling of the ancient elf city. Treasure was, and still is, being shipped to Neriak. Through their exploration of the city, they also learned of Holciel Rowen`dal, and began the looting of the catacombs, as did the greedy and opportunistic human nomads from the north. Treasure was to be found in great quantities there, though that was not all that was found. The dead were not always restful, and the spirits of the Kings and Queens still haunted the halls. And now, to this day, treasure hunters come from afar to take their chances in the catacombs in search of precious elven artifacts and glory.

Rumors, lies and half-truths abound in many circles on Tunaria regarding the whereabouts and details of the Tomb of the Crown. What is clear is that any journey to the tomb is perilous in and of itself. Fearsome creatures of all sizes lurk in the Desert of Ro; one can only hope that they are few when crossing it in search of the gorge that leads to the tomb. Scorchstone Gorge was once not so scorched. The forest still stood near by when a site for the tomb was being sought. The gorge was hidden from casual travelers and no creature lairs were found in its walls, making it a prime site for the construction.

Solusek Ro’s curse of the forest also affected the gorge. Plant life withered and was swept away by the winds while the small creatures that lived there moved on or died. Now the gorge is inhabited by deadly beasts as well as other competing treasure hunters, not to mention the dead that wander from the tomb to seek out and destroy the living.

Without Takish`Hiz and the elven people to link the spirits to their former selves, they have become lost and bitter. The spirits are now spectral beings that haunt the catacombs and consume any life they can find. The bodies of unfortunate adventurers are risen and guard the tombs from intrusion. Not only death lurks around every corner, but also the curse of unlife if one is unlucky enough to fall victim to the wrath of a spirit king. However, elven treasure is still to be found, and few can refuse the compelling promise of glory.

That may be what EQOA says, but EQL does indeed say the elves were driven from Takish'Hiz by Solusek Ro, the burning prince (he is the god of the sun, of power, and does deal a great bit with fire). Solusek destroyed the old forest slowly, out of envy and anger.

Here is the lore from EQL, LDON expansion. The more you adventure into the old ruins of Takish'Hiz, found under the desert sands, the more information this person will tell you.

(You can see though, that the elf places the creation of her people pretty much first. There is no suprise that over years history changes to the favor of the teller in many cases. That just makes the world more realistic, imho. So, who really knows..)

About the same time, Brell Serilis of the Plane of Underfoot created the dwarves who dwelled inside the very crust of Norrath. Then, Prexus, the Ocean Lord, created the Kedge to rule the oceanic depths of the world. Around that time, Veeshan claimed the skies, Tunare the surface lands, Brell the underground and Prexus the seas. It wasn't that simple really, but it will have to wait. I must practice my archery now, friend. I need to be prepared for exploration and battle at all times.'

Ruanya Windleaf says 'You have returned in good time, ______. I am between tasks at the moment, but I will need to do more scouting of Takish-Hiz shortly. I wanted to tell you about a critical turning point earlier in our history. There was a time when the lands of Norrath were split amongst the gods so they would have true homes for their creations. Tunare and Solusek Ro, the Prince of Flame, both wanted to claim the Elddar Forest as their own. There was no settlement though, Tunare simply acted more quickly. As I will tell you soon, Solusek Ro took exception to Tunare's hasty creation of the elves. I must continue with my scouting now.'

    8 wins

Ruanya Windleaf beams with pride, her upturned eyes brightly greeting you. 'Ha, I beat my companion Escon Quickbow in an archery competition. Grand day! Yes, I have more information for you about Solusek Ro. The Prince of Flame watched the elves quietly build and live without conflict for thousands of years. Takish-Hiz was built out of wood and marble with much skill and beauty. It was so striking and bright the gods could see it glow from a great distance. Solusek Ro became envious and angry at Tunare and her creations. In fact, his vengeful acts brought ruin to the elves of Takish-Hiz.'

    10 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'Quickly now, ______. I have spotted some tracks nearby I do not want to lose. I just came back to the camp for supplies. Solusek Ro reached down to Antonica with his fiery touch and arched the spine of the world. The geographical act would be slow and not draw attention to his actions. He then called upon the power of the Ro, the sun. The sun began to dry the forest. Now, I really must go. I don't want to lose the tracks I found.'

    12 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'The tale gets somewhat sad at this juncture. The elves watched the outer edges of the Elddar Forest wither and die and it was progressing faster. The druids of Takish-Hiz used their most powerful magic to try to stop the advance of the drought. They would call for rain and protection from Tunare. They received neither. Solusek Ro's grip was too strong. That's all I know about that part of the story. I think you should go talk to Farwein Windrun in the south deserts of Ro. He can tell you more.'

    14 wins

Farwein Windrun may be found at -2800, +500 in South Ro.

Farwein Windrun says 'Hail ______. I'm certain that Ruanya sent you to me. That must mean you want to learn more about Takish-Hiz and the elves. I do have an interesting tale about that. Some call it folklore, but I say it is true. The story was passed amongst the wood elves for centuries. Give me some time to organize and we will talk, friend.'

    16 wins

Farwein Windrun says 'So glad you're here. I've been aching to tell my story. Soon after Takish-Hiz was built, not only did Solusek Ro become angry, Innoruuk did as well. He abhorred the sickly sweet and lovely elves and wanted to disrupt the peaceful city and cut into Tunare's heart. Sorry to stop here ______, but I must practice. Don't tell anyone, but I've been learning the geomantic arts!'

    18 wins

Farwein Windrun says 'So good to receive you again, ______. We can continue without interruption for a short time. When the Prince of Hate, Innoruuk, saw how happily and peacefully the elves lived, his ire burned like an inferno. He stole the king and queen right from their thrones in Takish-Hiz without any warning and imprisoned them in the Plane of Hate, his terrible home. Oh, I am afraid I must now return to the Faydarks for a short spell and visit my family. I have just remembered they talked about an artifact of the old elves they keep hidden. I am yearning to see it!'

    20 wins

Farwein Windrun says 'I had a wonderful visit with my family, ______. Where were we? Hm. Ah, yes. Innoruuk tortured the elven king and queen of Takish-Hiz for 300 years. He twisted their minds and tortured their bodies until they were no longer beautiful and bright. He rebuilt them as he saw fit until they became the first of Innoruuk's intelligent abominations on Norrath. They became known as the dark elves, or Teir'Dal. Speaking of frightful, I must return to Takish-Hiz. My friends are signaling me to hurry our discussion. I'll see you soon.'

    22 wins

Farwein Windrun says 'The story of the elves and Takish-Hiz is becoming more familiar to me the more I tell it. I must say though, it is heartbreaking to learn that the Elddar Forest used to stretch across the entire southeastern quarter of Antonica. I am sure we would have found it magnificent! It is even sadder that some of the gods had such a hatred of the elves. Anyway, I must go cook my friends a meal. I would suggest that you return to Ruanya Windleaf to discuss more about the fate of Takish-Hiz and the elves.'

    24 wins

Ruanya Windleaf looks over a strange piece of blue ore and hides it when she sees you approach. 'Hail ______. These are certainly interesting times. We are seeing all sorts of new things these days. I do need to tell you what happened in Takish-Hiz that led to the demise of many of my elven ancestors. I must ask you to remember that Solusek Ro called upon the power of sun we call Ro that would ultimately be the end of the first elven city. I must continue my fletching right now, but when you return, I can tell you more.'

    26 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'How nice to set eyes upon you again ______. Like I had said, the destructive heat of the sun called upon by Solusek Ro brought the Elddar Forest to its end. As the trees withered and became petrified and the soil lost all of its nourishment, sands began to close in on Takish-Hiz. King and Queen Tak'Yaliz, who replaced the first King and Queen Tak'Hiz that were stolen by Innoruuk, commanded all of the elves to protect their city from the encroaching sands. Can we talk another time? Patchka Ceorvra needs my assistance with gathering some shrubs for her alchemy practice.'

    28 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'Let's begin again, ______! All of the elves of Takish-Hiz brought their strongest magic outside the city to protect it from the heat of sun. They fashioned aqueducts and resurrected trees and planted new ones to try to force the sands backward. As the natural resources needed to perform their magic dwindled, the elves had to look elsewhere. King and Queen Tak'Yaliz and their advisors called a grand assembly with the druids to propose an alternative that would be a massive undertaking. That's all I have time for right now. So much to do!'

    30 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'Lend me your ear again, ______ and we'll continue where we left off. During the assembly of the druids of Takish-Hiz, the king and queen pointed their faithful citizens toward a new magic art . . . geomancy. All of the citizens of Takish-Hiz were then given specific duties that would save the city. Some citizens were sent out to maintain the forest with shovels and seeds, and others were sent to the great libraries to learn and improve upon geomantic arts. I have to meet a fellow wood elf for more information on the story, but I'll be back soon.'

    32 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'I have more detail to give you ______. As the sands continued to pour in around the elves of Takish-Hiz like a merciless sea, parts of the city began to fall to the pressure of the failing earth. But the elves did not falter in their resolve and desire to save their home. The geomancers used the sands to form new walls where the stone crumbled. All the wood that cracked and split under the advancing sands were also replaced by reformed earth. Soon, large parts of the city were replaced with sandy architecture. Each day the elves fought to maintain their city, but it would be a battle that would seemingly never end. I must make an entry in my journal now, friend. Return soon!'

    34 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'That Calliav certainly is an interesting sort. From time to time, he has visions about Takish-Hiz and tells me what he sees. Lucky for us, I suppose! Anyway, let us continue with the story. The king and queen of Takish-Hiz came to accept that much of their city was buried under the scorching sands and what remained was fast becoming unlivable. They saw some of their most faithful and powerful geomancers trapped in ruins of the city as some of the structures failed. It was time to make a decision. I'll tell you more about that later. I have to do some foraging. We're running low on supplies.'

    36 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'More about the elves? Good! King and Queen Tak'Yaliz used a great horn to signal to all of their citizens that it was time to flee their failing city. They decided it could not be saved. The elves, weary and worn, left the scorched earth that came to be known as the deserts of Ro and made their way across the Ocean of Tears to a new and fertile land. They began to settle in a forest named the Faydarks that was much like the Elddar Forest once was. What they did not know is that some of their ancestors did survive deep beneath the sands in Takish-Hiz. We must discuss this another time, friend. I have a guest coming soon and I need to prepare.'

    38 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'Hail, ______. I would recommend you go inquire about the decrepit state of Takish-Hiz and the elves with Niflel Faliwae in the Greater Faydarks. She has been doing a lot of research on the elves of Takish-Hiz and has quite a tale to tell. She can provide you with more insight than me. Safe journey!'

    40 wins

Niflel Faliwae is located at -1970, +2420 in Greater Faydark.

Niflel Faliwae says 'Ah, you've come to learn of the fate of the elves of Takish-Hiz. Well, as the elves of the Elddar Forest fled to Faydwer, some that were trapped under the sands within the city of Takish-Hiz continued their efforts to prevent the sand from completely taking over the city. There were many of them and they were completely unaware that the city was abandoned and expended all of their energy trying to rebuild the city and free themselves. It is the hour for me to meditate friend, but I would be pleased if you returned to hear more.'

    42 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'I am happy you have returned. The fate of my ancestors is significant in my opinion. The elves buried in Takish-Hiz began to get desperate over time. Food supplies and natural resources were dwindling at an alarming rate. They needed to buy time for their rescue. Then, the masters of geomancy agreed to conduct a most unusual experiment, mostly out of curiosity, but all quietly recognizing it may be useful in the future. They gathered a number of insects and began to reconstruct their biology with sand using the geomantic arts. It took many attempts before the first insect survived with legs made of sand. Once they had mastered the recreation of limbs, they turned their focus to organs and brains of the lowest forms of living creature in the sand-filled city. Sorry, ______. This is a long tale and I must break it into digestible portions. Return soon and I will tell you more.'

    44 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'I keep finding more information on the elves, the more time I spend in Takish-Hiz. Yes, back to the geomancers endeavors. While the insects they experimented with had no brains to speak of, the geomancers were able to recreate the insects entirely and the resulting sandy beings behaved normally in their eyes. With what they had learned from those experiments, the elves were able to summon a variety of creatures that could assist them with keeping the city repaired. More another time then, ______? I do hope so.'

    46 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'I've found a journal with the most thrilling story! It says that when the remaining food was nearly all consumed in Takish-Hiz, the surviving elves had to consider alternatives on how they would live. Collectively, they had some ideas with implications that were horrific to the geomancers. But then, one brave elf, Cirwea Strongbow, overlooked the geomancers discomfort and begged them to use his body for a most dangerous experiment. As Cirwea's arm was crushed when part of a great stone wall fell on him, he hoped the geomancers could replace it with their magic. His arm was turning black quickly and he feared he would die anyway. He was also hoping he might be the first elf that would be completely turned to sand. Find me soon ______ and we'll go further on the path of this story. I need to read more myself.'

    48 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'Hello ______. I've spent much time reading and piecing the story of the elves together. As it happens, the geomancers were reluctant and afraid that Cirwea could lose his young life altogether if they experimented on his arm. However, Cirwea urged them on. He convinced them he would die anyway as there was nearly no food left and his arm was rife with disease. The geomancers acquiesced and worked for many days to prepare, practicing on several creatures that were available to them. When the geomancers were more confident, they coaxed the last wolf of Takish-Hiz into their special summoning chambers. They managed to completely replace the wolf's flesh with sand. Together they decided they were satisfied with the results as the dog behaved as it usually had. That is when they turned their attention to Cirwea. We must end this for now, ______. We will both know more by the time we see each other again.'

    50 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'This is a most unusual story, ______. I read that the day finally came for Cirwea and he was prepared for the test. He was rested on a bed of sand with his arms and legs were outstretched. The geomancers put him into a trance, gathered around him, and joined hands. Together they all crouched to the floor and buried their fingers in the sands. They began to chant and their arms glowed blue, yellow, and green with their summoning gifts. The sand underneath Cirwea shook and undulated in ripples around him. They were upon the moment of truth. With more time, I can continue. This is as far as I've gotten in the tale myself.'

Your Adventurer Stone glows with more power as you gain stature with the Wayfarers Brotherhood.

    52 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'This journal about Takish-Hiz has me mesmerized! It says that as the geomancers stood around Cirwea, chanting, one of the geomancers leaned forward on her knees and began sculpting sand into the shape of an arm. She lifted the sculpture and it remained bound by the magic. She laid it on top of Cirwea's bruised and broken arm and pushed lightly downward. Sparks of blue magic danced around the sculpture of the arm as it worked its way into Cirwea's flesh and bone. In a moment, the magic dissipated. Cirwea blinked and opened his eyes. They all waited, barely breathing. With a smile, Cirwea turned his eyes to each one of the geomancers that stood above him. Then, he wiggled the fingers on the hand of his sandy arm. Fantastic, is it not? You must go now so I can read more!'

    54 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'How terrible it must have been in Takish-Hiz, hm? In my last reading, I learned that as food became extinct, the geomancers all began to replace their living bodies with sand. The one part of the body they did not dare replace was their brains. While the wolf they had transformed into a sand creature long ago still lived, it was not as rambunctious as it once was. It was a cause for concern, but all of the remaining elves knew they would have to abandon their natural biology or they would die. All of their efforts would be for naught if they were not able to survive with their skills and spirits in tact. They wouldn't be able to protect the city. I'm aching to read more, ______. When I see you again, we'll carry on.'

    56 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'The bravery of my ancestors really makes my heart proud. Again, Cirwea offered his head and mind for the first experiment the geomancers would perform. His bravery and faith in his fellow geomancers was unequaled. With his usual persuasiveness, Cirwea told his fellow fading elves that they had to try or none of them would survive. Once again, they prepared the summoning room. The tension in the air felt as heavy as the sand bearing down on them. I'm afraid that's all I know at this point. I plan to read more soon.'

    58 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'I was able to steal a few minutes with the journal left by some of the Takish-Hiz elves and read some eerie details around the grand experiment they conducted. The geomancers all gathered around Cirwea once more, but this time his eyes were lifeless. Ahead of time, the geomancers created a unique sculpture that was a totem. They were able to trap Cirwea's spirit within it. It was hoped that the spirit within the totem would be released within Cirwea's completely earthen form. Their eyes shone more keenly this day because they knew they faced the answer to the question they had all been asking themselves . . . would they be able to survive as sand creatures? And so, the summoning ceremony began. That's as far as I was able to read! I must get back to it!'

    60 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'This journal is the most fascinating text I have ever read. To continue, dear ______, the summoning ceremony finished and once again Cirwea opened his eyes. The elves were all somewhat taken aback as his eyes did shine once again, but now his eyes were made of gems. Once more, he smiled. In a gravelly voice, he said 'My name is Cirwea and I am your first sand elf!' From that moment, the elves began their feverish transformation to becoming sand elves. But, they should have waited longer to see how this new form would affect them over time. I'm not sure why, because I haven't read that far. When I find spare time, I will read more, I promise!'

Your Adventurer Stone glows with more power as you gain stature with the Wayfarers Brotherhood.

    62 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'Goodness! I have been anxious for you to return so I can tell you more! Cirwea, the first sand elf, was also the first to show an alarming change. He talked to his fellow geomancers less and less as the days passed. He was consumed with constantly repairing and rebuilding the city. While his fellow elves would take time to talk and share their lives, he would continue to manipulate the sands. Then, the other elves began talking less and less. I'm afraid there are some pages missing in the journal. I plan to return to Takish-Hiz to find them.'

    64 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'I found most of the missing pages! It seems that there was a desperate attempt by the youngest sand elves to restore all of the spirits of the sand elves into new totems so they would be protected. In the process, they lost several elves completely as their spirits were all but gone and could not be trapped into the totems. Some of the elves toyed with ending their lives, but hoped that someday that if they were rescued they could be restored to their formal physical beauty and intelligence. But it was not to be. I must read the final pages, dear ______. Come back soon and we'll end this tale together!'

    66 wins

Niflel Faliwae says 'I should have been prepared for the sad ending of the elves, but I was not. My heart is troubled. The final pages of the journal ends as all of the elves succumbed to their sandy hosts and all lost their love for life. The journal became hazy because there were no elves to finish it. The sand elves you see now are just echoes of the elves they once were. They are not really the ancestors of the elves because they have become something else. They still see the continuing threat of the sands burying their city and continue to rebuild it with the sands. Now that we have discovered them, they fight even harder to protect all that they have sought to rebuild. That is all the information I have on Takish-Hiz right now, I'm afraid. You should go visit Ruanya Windleaf. I believe she may have more to tell you.'

    68 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'The story of the sand elves is sad, is it not? While you were away, we were able to learn more about the sand elves as they move about Takish-Hiz now. The elves do retain a faint memory of what their professions used to be. The Flowkeepers oversee the movement of the sands in the city. They are somewhat like advisors to the elves and indicate when the tides of the sands are in the best position to perform summoning ceremonies. They patrol the city looking for impending damage. With a bit more time, I can tell you more, dear ______.'

    70 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'We've just returned from another expedition into Takish-Hiz. We discovered that the Geomantic Compact compliments the Flowkeepers. The compact is comprised of priests that are the primary force behind the summoning ceremonies. The Geomantic Compact is also responsible for making sure the hourglass that remains in the city is constantly turned, so the sands still indicate time. The Geomantic Compact holds the masters of geomancy. There is more study required before we continue, my friend.'

Your Adventurer Stone glows with more power as you gain stature with the Wayfarers Brotherhood.

    72 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'Greetings ______! While we were exploring, we came upon the Royal attendants. They are all that is remaining of the advisors and guards of King and Queen Tak'Yaliz who had long-since abandoned the city. They became quiet workers, but they are very skilled with weapons due to their former professions. They were the warriors of the realm. Now they are just faint semblances of their former heroics. Extremely sad that there were so many survivors left behind, isn't it?'

    74 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'It is indeed unfortunate that we lost one of our best during a jaunt to Takish-Hiz. The Jeweled Guard, remnants of the most fearsome of the elves, were the warriors and masters of battle in the city. Even in their spirit-drained state, they continue to train and behave with great discipline as they play out the habits they used to have when their spirits lived within them. While they are only shades of their former selves, they are still ferocious in a fight. In fact, I got a few scars myself from them that need attention. See you soon, ______.'

    76 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'I've discovered a bit of madness in Takish-Hiz, dear ______. The Cave Dwellers in the city are the outcasts of Takish-Hiz. Many are frail and appear crazy and unable to function. These are the most faded of the sand elves that had the weakest spirits to begin with. It's very upsetting to see the glow completely gone from their eyes, though. No matter, they are just shades of their former splendor. I must go visit with Nedaria Debeian and tell her what I've learned too.'

    78 wins

Ruanya Windleaf says 'I was hoping you had come to tell me something ______! I am out of information to relay to you. I suppose this means we're on equal footing! I'm fairly sure the Wayfarers Brotherhood considers you an ally by now! I've much enjoyed bending your ear with my story. I hope maybe someday you will do the same for me!'

I'm not clear how Jaled'Dar fits in, but the Sleeper was raised by Kildrukaun. Below is the text from EQ1 of the history the Claws of Veeshan kept.

[Sun Sep 29 22:48:04 2002] You say, 'Hail, Jortreva the Crusader'
[Sun Sep 29 22:48:05 2002] Jortreva the Crusader lifts her wings in a graceful motion as she lowers her chin to eye Ironhand in greetings, ''I am Jortreva, Crusader of Veeshan. I am the ear to the whispers upon the shadows and the eyes to witness the tainted footsteps of our enemies that corrupt our path. Your kind, the second generation of the lesser gods' creation, have brought us into being as we are now -- for that, we hold neither gratitude nor contempt. It is your actions that have sent us spiraling through an umbra of immeasurable danger that could secure the destruction of all upon this world, but it shall be through the undying efforts of the [champions] that we may have some chance to ward this darkness back into the oblivion it strives to create.''

[Sun Sep 29 22:48:25 2002] You say, 'What are champions?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:48:25 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''We are four elemental dragons bred to be champions among our people -- within this world. We do not seek recognition or praise from either world -- yours or that of Veeshan's brood -- but we seek to protect and maintain the balance that keeps our worlds separate, yet unified upon the same plane of existence. When Kerafyrm was first placed into stasis by our predecessors, the elemental warders, the [council] ordered the arranged breeding of what would be the warders' replacements when the time came for their stations to ascend. However, the unpredicted actions of the second generation have thrown us into a new role -- the role of Crusaders.'''

[Sun Sep 29 22:48:39 2002] You say, 'What council?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:48:39 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''When dragon kind was accompanied upon this world by the lesser god's intrusion, the council of elders was formed. Immediately our ancestors realized the need for our kind to be of sound unification if we were to prevail and remain the superior beings upon what is rightfully our world. As we watched the eras pass through both the second generation and our own cultures, the members of the council changed. Eventually, one known as Kildrukaun would be appointed Arch Priest of Veeshan through divine rite and ceremony -- a sacred part of our institution that I shall not divulge to one as yourself. His first decree would be to condemn the unification of souls between dragons whose elemental influences were of opposition. It was of his belief, and thus the belief of the council, that such a union was against Veeshan's will and would have dire consequences upon the entire dragon nation. Time would pass again before [fate] would descend upon Kildrukaun's decree.'''

[Sun Sep 29 22:48:47 2002] You say, 'What fate?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:48:47 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''Two dragons of opposite elemental powers confronted the council with their desire to mate. Kildrukaun immediately dismissed any blessing and ordered the dragons from ever fulfilling their desires. These two were young still and very headstrong, regarding the council and its rules to be outdated when considering the growing influence and power of the second generation. They fled to unknown corners of Norrath and there, they bound their souls in a sacred union that would forge the first prismatic dragon. When knowledge of this event came to the council, Kildrukaun, a being of great wisdom and calm heart for regard of his own people looked upon the prismatic's creation as that of Veeshan's will, for conceivably unto him, only Veeshan herself could defy her great priest's rule. The council was in agreement and the hatchling, who would be named Kerafyrm, the Prophetic Savior, was allowed to continue existence under close watch that would be [governed by Kildrukaun himself].'''

[Sun Sep 29 22:48:53 2002] You say, 'How was it governed by Kildrukaun himself?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:48:53 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''Although Kildrukaun was inspired and intrigued by Kerafyrm's existence, he was wary still for he had yet to be witness to the true intent of Veeshan's will. In this time, the dragon nation had split and were in opposing power -- the Ring of Scale whom fled their native Velious for Kunark, and the Claws of Veeshan, the original order and council of dragon kind. It was known that Kildrukaun was furious with the recent division and he strongly believed that it was Veeshan's will for the dragon nations to reunite once again, lest they become as weak and pitiful as the second generation. He viewed Kerafyrm to be the road that would guide the dragons to unification, although it was a unification that would be borne of an unknown purpose that Kerafyrm served. Kildrukaun never interacted with the young prismatic dragon, but served as the dictator behind his mentors. Eventually, Kerafyrm would rise to a power unseen within any dragon of his still fledgling age and Kildrukaun's [prophecy] would be born.''

[Sun Sep 29 22:48:59 2002] You say, 'What Prophecy?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:48:59 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''Kildrukaun was of the mind that Kerafyrm was meant to lead the dragon nation in a civil war -- the Claws of Veeshan invading the great mountain fortress known as Veeshan's Peak that the Ring of Scale had established. He was certain that his campaign would unify the dragons and this was nothing less than the will of Veeshan herself. The council dismissed Kildrukaun's prophecy, exclaiming that although they must find a way to bring the Ring of Scale back under the wing of the elder council, they could not wage a war and abandon the threat of Kael Drakkal. Kildrukaun was furious, although he did not confront the council directly. Over the passing centuries, he would sway three of the [council elders] to his side and would personally oversee Kerafyrm's final stages of growth. Eventually the time would come when the council would [recognize their mistake] in allowing Kerafyrm to exist and their order for his termination would be the greatest impact in their destiny.''

[Sun Sep 29 22:49:13 2002] You say, 'What council elders?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:49:13 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''When dragon kind was accompanied upon this world by the lesser god's intrusion, the council of elders was formed. Immediately our ancestors realized the need for our kind to be of sound unification if we were to prevail and remain the superior beings upon what is rightfully our world. As we watched the eras pass through both the second generation and our own cultures, the members of the council changed. Time would pass again before [fate] would descend upon Kildrukaun's decree.'''

[Sun Sep 29 22:49:48 2002] You say, 'How would the recognize their mistake?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:49:48 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''Kerafyrm quickly ascended the ranks within the Claws of Veeshan and eventually became our most powerful general. He led several successful campaigns against the rising threat of the giants of Kael and his influence grew among the elders of the council. However, something dark grew within him -- his bite became venomous and his talon ruthless in its command over his troops and allies. Eventually, his dominion and influence was nothing short of a monstrous creature of pure malignant hatred and an unrivaled lust for destruction and chaos that the council had no other choice but to demand his destruction -- a rule that Kildrukaun was present to hear and deceitfully condone. Shortly thereafter, Kildrukaun and four council elders whom the arch priest had managed to sway with his charismatic diplomacy and sound argument of his prophecy flew to Kerafyrm's side, where the four of them made preparations for the inevitable [war] to come.'''
[Sun Sep 29 22:50:41 2002] You say, 'What war?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:50:42 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''Although short lived, the war between Kerafyrm's legions and those of the Claws of Veeshan would be a near crippling blow to the survival of the elder dragon council upon Velious. Kerafyrm's legions were severely outnumbered by those of the elder council, but time and time again they displayed their awesome strength and power. Eventually, Kerafyrm was restrained and taken to what would be his place of indefinite slumber. The four traitorous elders fled Velious safely to unknown locations, where they would lay in wait until the time came that Kerafyrm would be released. After centuries of hiding, the Ancients have returned and they now have a near unbreakable hold upon the former tomb of their master, where again they lay in wait -- anticipating the arrival of their master and the time to execute the undoubtedly phenomenal plan that will [bring about the extinction of all great existence] upon Norrath if they are successful.'''

[Sun Sep 29 22:54:02 2002] You say, 'why will they bring about the extinction of all great existence?'
[Sun Sep 29 22:54:02 2002] Jortreva the Crusader says ''Kildrukaun has always despised the second generation and has long sought your total demise. Kerafyrm undoubtedly seeks vengeance for the actions of the Claws of Veeshan against him and together, the arch priest and Kerafyrm will seek to reconstruct this world in their own mind's image of what it should be -- a world that belongs solely to Veeshan's children, reborn in Kildrukaun's ideals, and subservient to Kerafyrm. They are truly mad with hate and an untamable lust for destruction -- one that [we must extinguish] forever.'''

Well to the guy who said that the elves were in Fayspire. You have to realize that EQOA came out AFTER EQ1, therefore any of it's lore is not worth a copper peice or the dung pile in Freeport.

Ok, you seem to think that EQlive has the only lore and no other Everquest in existance has any good lore. I doubt there wasn't any lore at all on Paineel before Planes of Power came out. Each expansion, they add on more and more lore that no one knew before. How can EQOA be any different. They are doing the same thing except instead of adding lore to an existing game, they add to a whole new game that takes place in the past. I hardly think that any EQ series lore can not be counted.

Um, there was lore on Paineel when Paineeel came out... much before PoP...
Im not totally against EQOA lore, a lot of it is fine, but it isnt my first source for lore.

Not true at all. EQ1 came out first, therefore any lore in other games SHOULD be based around it, you cant change lore as new things come out, that is dumb. That would be like changing the history of the US everytime we get a new president. It's just silly.

Lords of EQ and EQ OA for PS2 I think are big mistakes -.-

There are a few erroneous details in the original post, but the gist of it is fairly accurate. If you'd like to edit the original post here are some corrections:

    THE CREATION
    - Veeshan soars, not sails.
    - Brell was the second god to take notice of Norrath and planted a few of his own creations secretly through the Plane of Underfoot before forming a pact with the other gods to deposit their own creations to keep Veeshans sphere of influence in check.
    - Erollisi Marr is actually responsible for the Barbarians (she literally gave birth to them), it is unclear how humans came to be, but there are rumors of divine intervention as the cause of their seperation from their Barbarian ancestors.
    - Cazic Thule didn't create the shissar, their origin remains a mystery (kinda like the Kerra).
    - The elemental gods are far too powerful to waste their time creating mortals, they are supreme rulers of the elements after all - instead they create other lesser gods if anything.

    THE TRIALS OF ELVES
    - Actually, it would be fair to say that the elves populated an area known as Tunaria, as they were found everywhere from the peaks of Everfrost to the swamps of Innothule.
    - Its Takish'Hiz, Kelethin, and Felwithe (high elf city).
    - The timeline really goes like: Tunare created the elves. Consumed with jealousy because he was left out of the gods pact to create various races on Norrath, Innoruuk kidnapped the first elven king and queen and slowly ripped them apart mentally and physically over centuries. He then picked up the pieces and put them back together with the taint of his divine hatred and "planted" them deep beneath the surface in what later became known as Nektulos Forest. They are meant to look exactly like Tunares elven creations with a slight twist, their indigo color and their unnatural hatred, as a mockery of Tunare herself. It was after this that Solusek Ro also acted out his jealousy and anger toward Tunare by raising the Serpent Spine mountains and slowly turned the elven capitol into a desert wasteland.

OF KERAFYRM AND THE WAR OF DRAGONS
    - Dragons come in much more than two types, and its not red and blue. What you are referring two are the elemental powers of the dragons, in this case fire and ice. Dragons can also have poison based powers, wind, water, etc.
    - No one wanted Keraphyrm around, but it was prophecized that a great dragon would lead them to a promise land, so he was trained as a soldier and quickly rose through the ranks until he became an incredible general of a loyal army. He became cocky however, and decided not to listen to the Council, so a war began between Keraphyrms troops and the rest of the dragons that lasted until Keraphyrm was finally placed in stasis by 4 elemental warders.
    - Jaled Dar and his family was never banished, he was the leader of the Ring of Scale. After the war with Keraphyrm the dragons were low in numbers and in dire straights as more problems began to plague them, namely the giants of Kael Drakkal and the Iksar of Kunark.

OF THE SHISSAR, IKSAR, SARNAK, TRAKANON, AND THE SATHIRS
    - The iksar were never as bad as the Shissar, once freed the iksar formed tribe states and lived relatively peacefully occasionally warring with each other over territories and the like.
    - Venril Sathir was cremated
    - The dragons actually decided not to meddle in the affairs of the iksar directly, believing that such interference would only start an unnecessary war for the weakened dragons. Trakanon, however, disobeyed the council and took a few of his most loyal subjects to attack Rile while he was at sea. Sebilis was still the capitol city of the iksar and far from abandoned, and Trakanon was never mortally wounded in such a fight as sinking a ship was as easy as swatting a fly to such dragons. Because of his actions, the dragons and iksar spent the next 50 years in constant conflict.
    - The joining of a dragon and iksar became the Sarnak, the joining of a dragon and froglok yielded the Sokokar. The Sokokar were used as flying mounts for the iksar armies. Atrebe (son of Rile) was succeded by his son Ganak, who fought Jaled Dar himself in open battle. When the smoke cleared both were dead and the war was nearing its end. In one last blaze of glory the retreating dragons destroyed Ganaks hatchlings.
    - The Emerald Circle was instated with no clear lineage to take the throne as emperor, but this council did not last long as greed and lust for power over came its members. In this time, Trakanon and others took this time to try to wipe the iksar from the surface once and for all and razed all of their capital cities. Froglok and Sarnak slaves revolted in Sebilis, Goblins from Faydwer over ran the iksar outposts and forest and mountain giants organized as a formidable opponent. Thus ended the iksar empire, forcing them to live in the ruins of cabilis.

    OF THE RALLOSIAN WARS
    - Actually the gods did breach the Planes of Power and actually kidnapped the Rathe Council and brought them to Norrath for an execution. This is how the Rathe Mountains and Lake Rathetear were formed, and because of this treachery - all of Rallos Zeks creations were severly crippled.

OF THE OTHER EVENTS IN VELIOUS
    - The Kromzek and Kromrif are actually storm giants and frost giants that escaped the curse of Rallos Zeks creations by crossing the veil into Velious.

    OF THE ERUDITES
    - Erud and his followers shared a disdain for the everyday conflict that plagued humanity. Thinking it savage and idiotic, they left for a life of peace and pursuit of magic.
    - The cat people are broken up into three tribes/races, The Vah Shir, The Kerra, and The Kejekan. The Vah Shir were the leaders of the cat people and were the strongest, the Kejekan live in the mountains of Odus and are the most spiritual, the Kerra live on the beaches and islands of Odus and are a little of both. The Vah Shir were magically transported to Luclin by the Erudites when the Hole was created (there was only one spell cast, not two). It is believed that the Vah Shir were actually saved by the spirits and placed on Luclin.

    OF THE COMBINE EMPIRE
    - The combine empire was the greatest empire to ever grace the face of norrath, the only thing that exceeded its size was its brevity. The exact timeline of the empire is lost to history however, as many count it as being older than any human civilization still in existence (therfore, long before the erudites came to be).

    OF LUCLIN AND THE OUTSIDERS
    - The city was originally named Fordel Midst after the two most prominent families that contributed the most to it. Fordel being a family of paladins, warriors, clerics, and the like, those that originally guarded the outpost. Midst is a family name of great magicians and arcanists that spent years working on the teleportations and geomancy that helped build city as well as a way to leave it. Fordel Midst somehow translates into Shadow Haven.
-Its Katta Castellum, and I don't think there was ever a colliseum in the city. It resembled more of a gothic church like setting for the loyalists, and while it has never been mentioned, the last we saw of Emperor Katta, he was being held in stasis secretly by a band of elven druids fighting to keep him alive and possibly cure his poison.
    - Don't forget the Grimlings!

    OF THE AKHEVA
    - The first new race was the combine loyalists
    - The Avatar of War led the Rallosian Army aided by the Avatar of Flame, not the gods directly
    - Lucan never made a pact with the knights of truth, the Avatar of Peace simply asked for their help and they complied.

I believe it's been said that the Vah Shir inhabited what is now known as The Hole. During the great civil war of the Erudites, the entire area there was teleported to Luclin. That would explain why The Hole is actually there, and why Shar Vahl is basically a large city surrounded by a pit. Like a jigsaw puzzle, Shar Vahl should be placed where The Hole is now.

In regards to the whole debate within EQOA, EQ1, and EQ2 with lore. I wouldn't heavily rely on any type of lore within any of these games. Because, just like real life, lore is first told by mouth and later written and so it changes constantly. With Greeks and Romans, lore changes upon which source you go to. It's even possible all this happened, but each source left out different things.

Perhaps when Takish'Hiz was crumbling, the Tier'dal were taking over. However, different outside or inside sources saw the true problem differently. One side could've said, "Oh, the Tier'dal are the true problem! We'll write just about that!" or some could've said, "Solusek Ro is to fault! The Tier'dal were easily beaten!" You have to remember that with lore, it's supposed to be written by the race, not by Sony. Elves looks very highly on themselves. They aren't going to admit they were beaten by two sources. . they'd much focus on one enemy and say how they were taken advantage of behind their backs.

I hope this helps some of you try and grasp that lore is lore. It's not fact. All lore changes and is always changing with every new information found.

Just to set the record strait - Here is the timeframe in when each game happend.
EQOA - 500 Years BEFORE the first EverQuest.
EverQuest - 500 years AFTER EQOA.
    EverQuest 2 - 500 years AFTER EverQuest.

As a note, in case you accept them as canonical, it is implied in various sources that Champions of Norrath and Champions - Return to Arms take place approximately 300 years before EQ1.
