The weekend is long gone. I opened the door to the pantry to get a can of chili and it put a nice gouge in my little toe. The chili dog was great though.

You sound like you would enjoy a Frito Chili Pie. I start with a layer of Fritos, followed by a layer of chili, and followed by a layer of your cheese of choice (I prefer sharp cheddar for this). Keep layering until your bowl can handle no more and enjoy the amazing tastiness!

I've tried that, but it is a bit salty for me. I prefer what we call a chili dip. Warm chili in a slow cooker with cheese melted on top and then use the chip of your choice (I like regular tortilla corn chips) to do the dipping.

Frito Pies when I was a youngun was one package of Fritos, one ounce, in the bottom of container. With about two tablespoons of chili on top of it. I don't about the cheese unless it was just plain old fast food cheddar. Not the current cheese food though.

This was grated by hand off a block of cheese.

Cost was 25 cents. Chopped onion was extra.

I know, prices have gone up since then.

Yup, I know there are a few little places (usually attached to a gas station) that cut open the top of a small pack of fritos, add chili and any extras and hand it to you over the counter along with a plastic spoon. Think about $1.75 last I saw a sign for one.

Another thing that was popular out in West Texas (during my college days) was the Taco Polacko....polish grilled sausage wrapped in a hot flour tortilla. Hot dog toppings of your choice added. Onions, mustard, kraut & chili for me. :)

Unfortunately I wasn't around in the 1950s. 60s yes. One of my classmates in Junior High was the daughter of the owner of the local Dairy Queen. So I called her 'curly top'. She didn't like me much.
