I wanted to try out a scout since I usually play healers. I do want to play a dirge (I know there is a debate which is better but I like the Dirge lore). Is using a shield ever viable? Thanks!
They can...but IMO the benefit is negligible at best. As a scout, you're really better off dual wielding. The only scouts I see using a shield is a niche case of a brigand / swashbuckler in defense stance while tanking the rare raid encounter that is built for it.
you can use balalaika instead of shield (I would look at that) Not only. If he prefers a play on one's Jack, then in, all in all, he may prefer a shield.. Although if he always needs dps then yes
You can just dual wield and then cover up your second weapon with a shield from the wardrobe, thus giving both the gameplay benefit and the aesthetic desired. This is what I do on my dirge.
