Character Account to Account Transfers Unavailable

    Is this the automated process coded from September 2017 to April 2019? Or is it back to the manual process, with the automated process put on hold?

    I'm sure Daybreak will be happy to lock this thread, after we know there are no bugs in this two year project.:D

    Just a heads up. The final round of testing found some issues that need to be resolved. It will have to be on hold for a bit longer as we don't want to send it out in a broken state.

    And....wait....for how long, this time?

    And I hope when they say that two-factor authentication is required that using the FOB counts, because I am a old fart who doesn't have a smart phone. (Well, technically I do, but not for telephone service, as strange as that may sound.)

    Not strange at all. I have 2 smart phones. One for calls, one for music.
    I just hope that the "a bit longer" isn't soon(@tm).

    Not that I'm going to use the service (I'm happy with where all my accounts are), but what happens to those who are international players and who were unable to get the fob authenicator thingies way back when, if you are using two-factor authentication? How is that going to work?

    And what if your phone can't even do that? :( Try not to presume, DBG; it makes a preeze out of you and me. :-/

    The two-factor authentication thing may be what they're trying to nail down, perhaps especially for international players. /fingers_crossed

    EDIT: On going to the link, it does say you can disable the 2-Step Authentication (if you've been good), but you have to be able to jump through all the hoops first. :-/

    Would any "different countries" be an issue if, say, a European-based player on Thurgadin were moving in RL from the EU (say, Germany) to, say, the UK? It'd be the same server, but... :-/

    I'm from germany so it wasn't possible to get the SOE Authenticator back then which afaik is no longer for sale but can still be used. Which leaves from my understanding 3 ways for the 2nd factor (the first factor is your e-mail adress):
    - SOE/DBG Authenticator
    - Daybreak Defender Smartphone App
    - A phone number that can receive SMS (note that some landlines offer this functionality too!)

    The whole point of 2 factor authentication is for you to verify your identity by having access to 2 different accounts/devices. In this case e-mail adress + one of the aforementioned. I can also understand why this would be a requirement to avoid possible exploitation of the account transfer system, i.e. selling of characters/accounts.

    The only other ways I know of to use 2-factor are:
    - RL mail (Google Business uses this to make sure you actually own the business you claim to own)
    - Sending a few cents with a code to your back account (Paypal and iirc Amazon Pay use this method)
    - Login with Google or Facebook.
    However the first 2 methods are much more complicated, take days to verify and cost a lot more. The third option is inherently less secure especially if you used the same e-mail adress to ensure those accounts and have data sharing implications I think noone wants.

    Keeping this in mind I find that with mobile phones having worldwide 4,68 billion users (~62,15% of the population) (Source) and the internet having worldwide ~4,04 billion users (53,6%) (Source) it is a fair assumption that those that have a PC and internet also have access to a phone that offers SMS service (Could be your spouses, parents or kids phone as long as you can see the code on a regular basis). I feel sorry for the small percentage that don't, but as I laid out above I see no way for them to effectively cater to those people.
    Also seeing as the authenticator fob cost was 10 $ and the transfer price is proberbly around the 25 $ I feel that it should be possible to get an old used mobile phone + a prepaid sim card for less than those 10 $ if you feel like it really is a hurdle to you.

    Concerning the country issue it just says both accounts need to be registered in the same country. As you can update your account information when you move to reflect your new living accomodations I see this also not from preventing you to use this service. Just make sure both of your accounts use your new adress.

    Account to Account Transfers are currently unavailable. Unfortunately we still don't have an ETA to give at this time. We're likely still a couple of months away, but that is a very rough estimate which is subject to change. We are working on the tech needed to re-enable them, but are a ways out from this solution.

    Thank you Roxxlyy for providing us with information this week and through out this process. From the patch msg, we know this requires same owner information and 2-factor authentication on both accounts. I also heard in discord that account and item flags will not propagate with transferred toon. Two additional questions: What would be the cost and what is the cool down/lock out period between transfers (if any).

    In addition to Darkale's request, it would be nice to know, for planning, if we can also transfer servers with the same request at the same cost as we could previously.
