which is better at soloing I have leveled ea to lvl 10 and it seems like the warlock kills things faster is this correct

It depends is your answer. Wizards are more single-target specialists, while warlocks are more multi-target.

The key to almost any ranged class is root-and-nuke. You use your root spell(s), plus any stuns and the like, to immobilize the mob. Root it, hit it, back up, root it again, hit it again, etc.

If you are fighting a group of linked mobs, then usually on my warlock I'll root one, then work on killing the others. But because you are using encounter AOEs, they all tend to die at about the same time. A wizard has to kill them more or less one at a time.

If Strictly pertaining to soloing, it’s going to be Warlock hands down. Warlock has a has a dot spell that Heals you. Wizard does not. Outside of this. Both classes use the Root / Nuke strategy. However. The Root and Nuke strategy is better on a wizard since it’s damage is higher (single target) and are not Damage over time spells. A warlock will do less damage than wizard when using it’s non-dot spells. Multi mobs do not favor a wizard as it does on the warlock. Now this applies more with lower levels. Higher levels it’s harder as mobs don’t stay rooted as easily. But even still, that warlock heal is really helpful.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't the Warlock do alot more DOT damage spells than the Wizard?

IF so, that's another plus as it helps them avoid aggro while on teams.
  5. Sigrdrifa EQ2 Wiki Author

Oh no, the DOTs gank aggro like you would not believe.

That's a definite change from what I remember playing ages ago. My Fury used to DOT the snot out of things and never had to worry about pulling aggro off the tank.

Yes they do a good bit more DOTs than a wizzy. However that does not mean they rip aggro any less than a wizzy. The DOTs of a warlocks best Spells build up some serious DPS so ripping can happen just as easily.

Fury's at least at the time I can remember, we're good for DPS but they still weren't DPSing on the same scale of a Warlock. So ripping on a Lock is way more likely per the heavy hitting DOTs they use for DPS. Thats just the truth.

These were the the OLD days when Wizzy's were Kings for Single target and ripped ALL the time. While Warlocks ripped Alot when it came to Linked AE Encounters.

THAT makes sense and fits with what I remember. My second "main" was a wizard, but the glass cannon thing got old. Furies back then definitely didn't dish out damage like wizards. Nowadays I don't know what to believe. I hear so many conflicting and contradictory stories about this and that being over or underpowered.

I've said it elsewhere and will say it here again; Mages should have the highest DPS because they have the lowest armor. Wizards and Warlocks don't even have a pet like all the others to play speed bump for them :)

I dunno about Fury DOTs, but on a warlock, once you get the AAs to deaggro, you will end up using those deaggros in your regular cast rotation when grouping or the mob will eat your face. Prior to that time, you have to watch how much aggro you are getting and stop casting if it gets to about 50%, because the DOTs will keep ticking from what you have already cast.

The reason you are hearing conflicting and contradictory stories is a result of several factors:
    1. How well the individual is geared on that toon.
    2. How high are the spell levels--apprentice to celestial
    3. The depth of knowledge about the class that the player has. And this is a major factor when you're talking about wringing out every ounce of dps out of a toon.

Can some healers dps? Sure. Furies, channelers, wardens. Is that their primary job--no. But that's a whole 'nother story for a different time, haha.

You forgot the just plain general whiner category also; those who speed run the main story of an expansion, never read a lick of dialog and complain there's no content for example, OR the people who have all the knowledge and gear yet complain their character is still broken because they aren't omnipotent.

If you've read some of my posts, you know I'm a fan of following a class's intended role within groups. I've seen here and in other games how a good team that sticks to their roles utterly destroys content other teams consider impossible. I led a farm team in City of Heroes that went after opponents everybody else said couldn't be beat, all because my Kinetic Controller did nothing but Fulcrum Shifts (power siphon from opponents to team), shield and heal during those runs. Satisfaction came from doing my role better than anyone else instead of insisting I have the best DPS.

Got off on sort of a side tangent there. Point was supposed to be that I agree some non-dps intended classes can DPS fairly well. That makes them great solo'ers also. Within a group though, knowing your role is important. I agree completely there.

I didn't forget the general whiners; they simply weren't germane to the discussion point you made in your post.

Mostly true, and a fair point. The ones that know their class and still whine that everything is broken can and do help muddy the waters in finding good info here though.

"Mostly true?" Please point out what isn't true.
As far as whiners go, most people tend to put them on ignore, just like they do in General Chat in game. The same happens with people who have a penchant for constantly correcting other people or not offering solid feedback in a thread.
