    Only rules are...
    Must have a taunting tank
Must have a clr dru shm healer
    No duplicate classes

What do you think and why?

    Worst group?

    Warrior - Tank
    Shadow Knight - Puller
    Rogue - Melee DPS
    Paladin - Back up tank/healer
    Druid - Main healer

No haste, no caster DPS... very little crowd control ability.

Replace Paladin and Warrior for Enchanter and Mage and you have a pretty strong group, replace rogue with wizard and its even better. Replace Druid with Cleric or shaman, and well you've put me out of a job but you've made the group better.

You’re missing a class; he said full group. I’d throw a ranger in then too, but it’s going to depend a bit on what level range we’re talking about. Rogues start out life pretty meh, but by 60 with epics they’re buzzsaws. I think in any case, the group in question will have all three plate tank classes and a sham or druid healer. The other two spots are where the debate will lie.

Ohh my bad, ya a full group is six, duh. lol, been a couple years since ive played. I would definitely include a ranger as the 6th slot. And a few, well geared rogues may be buzz saw's but I don't think the majority of rogues out DPS a mage or wizard, I could be wrong.

The problem with requiring a tank is that you kind of limit garbage group setups. One of the worst groups I had since omens was in paw though. The makeup was: Warr, Warr, SK, Bst, Enc, Cleric.Just sub a pally for one of the warriors and you get the trifecta of .
  7. snailish Augur

If your expectations match your group makeup then you can have fun/success just not necessarily fast xp.

Afk people. A leader that takes ages to coordinate the formation. Someone in a key role that doesn't know how to play and isn't open to advice. A drama-causer for the group/zone. The impatient person that pulls when they aren't the puller and trains the group. The mana mismanager (especially healer). The group trying to make a lower level undergeared tank work over their head, and not tempering expectations. The group insisting on a camp/zone that is too hard for them... all of these things matter more than group makeup in a group that has a taunting tank and priest class healing.

In Agnarr era... necro can mez much content. If you don't have bard or chanter it is pretty hard to run a full group that doesn't have snare, stun, the ability to off tank or root park. 3 classes can FD pull, cleric and paladin can lull (in our no chanter/bard group) and druids/rangers can harmony in the right places and necro can undead situationally. Most pets are very strong in group content without even touching the charmed aspect. Groups that fail to work with the toolkit at hand and modify tactics fail, not because they don't have a perfect group makeup.

This applies to non-ideal (i.e., no taunting plate class tank) makeups as well, including incomplete combos. A rogue & warrior duo isn't ideal, but they could progress.

Any combination of 6 players can be great if they know how to play, that's what I love about eq. Can't stand people who HAVE to have a enchanter and cleric or they won't group....newbs. ok I'll answer...war dru afk wiz newb rogue sk using sword and board even though they aren't main tank...and pally doing the same thing. Man that would still work pretty good.

There's plenty of crowd control ability there. Paladin's and druids both can pacify, both can root. Plus you have 2 off-tanks. Multiple pulls could be avoided or handled quite easily with this group.

You can stack up on distillate of alacrity for haste as well.

Worst group? Four highly geared/motivated DPS (any class). Warrior tank that can't hold aggro. Healer that wants to mostly afk watching netflix while pressing one heal button every 45-60 seconds.
  11. Darchias Augur

This group assumes they are doing high-level content on Agnarr, which only has Kunark unlocked at the time of posting. It also assumes each of them are bare minimum competent and are paying attention.

A Ranger: Main tank, he gets taunt
A Druid: Worst heals, has a lot of buff/debuff overlap with Ranger. Some CC
    A Rogue: DPS,. no utility
    A Mage: DPS, little utility
    A Wizard: DPS, little utility
A Necromancer: With so much burst damage with Wizard and Mage, DoT's are essentially useless. Some CC, can't use Darkness line because Ranger needs to cast Snare to hold aggro.

This group has an obscene amount of DPS, but between the bad mitigation of the Ranger and the insufficient healing from a Druid, a lot of the time those DPS are sitting on their for the Druid to get mana back. Somewhat mitigated by the Necromancer being able to feed the Druid mana, and further mitigated by the Mage/Wizard being able to solo encounters while the ranger and druid sits out during rest cycles. Most importantly, if they get more than two adds this group folds like wet cardboard. Sure, they might all live thanks to evac, but they aren't getting exp or loot if they do that. Since this is high level content, Ranger and Druid pacify doesn't work (only level 40 and under for Harmony), so solo pulling is more than can be expected.

To be clear, this group can still clear content and they still can get decent experience. I call this the worst because they have very little tolerance for screw ups. NO Group that has six different classes is complete garbage, assuming everyone knows what they're doing and is paying attention. There's a reason half the replies in this thread are people complaining about other players, not classes.

Necro could just root/snare/dot a bunch of adds and have them half dead while the rest of these inferior classes assist the Ranger and burn the main target down, all while the Necro is medding. I swear people, even after all these years, don't understand how Necros work/are superior when played to their potential. Also a Necro could help heal, Ranger could heal himself, too, so why would the Necro be twitching a Druid? So much bad in the above post. And why would you pick the Mage/Wizard to be the one soloing the adds? They are inferior soloers to Necros. And arguably even inferior for grouping come to think of it. Necro can even tank with just lifetaps if the ranger goes down, then rez the ranger. I just... good Lord.

That's kind of my point. There's no such thing as a bad group if you don't duplicate classes and everyone knows what they're doing. I could have just as easily said that the rogue is dead weight because the Ranger and Druid can snare/root things too, but then you don't have a group. You have a bunch of people soloing while sharing loot and experience. The reason I picked the Mage/Wizard to be soloing the adds is because they simply can't use their mana on anything else. Bad groups are things with like 3 rogues and no tank.
  14. Arrk Augur

    Easy...

    Paladin
    Ranger
    Rogue
    Cleric
    Druid
    Shaman

No real CC, no clarity. Tanks are mana dependent.
  15. Jaxarale01 Augur

Pally pulls and tanks one while ranger meds, Ranger pulls and tanks the next while pally meds = non stop pulls and no mana problem.
With shaman slowing and not needing clarity there is nothing much to heal for the cleric so they can nook as well as the druid would be all dps, Shaman can haste so...

    pretty decent group actually...

Worst group? In Kunark Era (since you're on Agnarr, guessing this is your question)

Tank - Ranger (they have taunt)
    Healer - Druid
    DPS - Wizard
    DPS - Magician
    DPS - Rogue
    DPS - Monk

This group is weaker because you have no mana regen, or slower (unless the ranger has their epic)

That being said, this group would probably melt face and kill so fast that you wouldn't give a monkeys butt. Asking what the worst group is, is kind've silly, if you have half a brain you can find solid synergy in any class combination, and this reliance on "Must have the best in all situations" is a WoW mentality dumpster fire that has no place in EQ, sure you can burn through XP faster if you have a Paladin, Bard, Shaman, Monk, Enchanter, Ranger, But any combination of 6 classes can do just fine.
  18. Zefirus Journeyman

    Healer - Cleric
    Util - Shaman
    DPS - Druid
    DPS - Paladin
    DPS - SK
    Tank - War

DPS will be low, mana regen will be crap, no cc, and on single targets, so much ac mit and healing, that it will be boring.

One with a player that tells other classes how to play / what to do etc.

Heal! Heal now! Mez that one, dont' dot! Pull it! grab it, flop it, burn it down! Haste your pet, use the faster haste no the longer one, (this really happened to me in a group I was in, 1 player said all this.. group did not last long)
