Hello all, after the first pass at a returning players guide got a lot of use. I am looking to make a broader and more verbose version. https://ingoodcompanyguild.com/forums/topic/guide-returning-players-and-heroic-toons/ The goal is to have a itemized todo list of things that some one with a 85heroic toon (returning player, some one coming from TLP to Live, or just starting a new alt) would be able to follow to be productive from the start Right now I am brainstorming topics. Please feel free to add your ideas on topics and things that you wish you had known earlier or never could find a good answer for. The main categories will be ... What to do before you login What you can read about anytime What you can solo as a brand new 85 Heroic toon What you can group at 110 What you can group at 115 This is an evolving thing so all ideas are welcome. In general I am trying to scope this document to Quest chains, Knowledge of new features, and practical in game tools every player uses (like guild anchors and fellowship clickys). I will make another guide that is focused about where to level up. Assume the person reading this guide will be pushing to 110 fast; to slap on ToV t1 and jump into current content groups as soon as possible. I will be using this post as the source material and groom it based on responses and update it as each topic is covered or at least linked to. The finished guide will reside here https://ingoodcompanyguild.com/returning-players-guide/ as well as on these forums for future players to find What you can read about anytime Read about attuneable gear Read about Heroic Fortitude/Resolution/Vitality AA's Read about Slot3 augs Read about Power Sources Read about Overseer Tetradrachm Read about Collection Items Read about Krono Read about Find Item feature Read about evolving items Read about Spell Particle Effects Read about /baz Read about /barter Read about Combat Dummys Read about Buffs Read about Debuffs Read about Player Guild Hall teleport clicky items Read about Guild Hall Portal Crystals (specifically guild banner) Read about how to calculate DPS of a weapon Read about best Heroic Stats for your class Read about best Augs for your class at 115 Read about required clickes for your class at 115 (Anguish BP, Shaman Rez Stick, Bard rapier, etc) Read about Player Housing interfafce Read about how armor and weapons are created at 115 Read about spell gems for different level ranges Read about Luck Read about Xtarget tool Read about assigned group roles Read about keyrings Read about Height Filter on maps Read about Layers on maps Read about Map > Zone Guide Read about Map > Find Read about how to find a raid member on the map Read about how to find a group member on the map Read about how to find a campfire on the map Read about /open Read about /output What to do before you log in Install Maps tinyurl.com/eqmappack https://www.eqmaps.info/eq-map-files/ Setup cpuAffinity What to do when you first login Claim your monthly membership reward Autogrant AA Get Fellowship Insignia Setup Guild Hall Anchors Setup /autoskill Setup /advloot Setup particle effects Setup a Player House Setup Personal Trophys Setup Personal Tribute Setup Guild Tribute Setup Spells/Discs Buy Rez Clickies Buy Perfected Augment Distillers Buy Unattuner Box Setup Options>General Setup Options>Display Setup Options>Chat Setup chat windows and tabs Setup basic hotkeys for everyone Setup basic hotkeys for class Check /claim Check /reward Click Permanent Effects Setup Healing Mercenary Set roleplay or unanon Setup Lesson of the Devoted AA Setup Staunch Recovery AA Setup Throne of Heros AA Setup Armor of Experience AA Setup Expedient Recovery AA Setup Origin AA Gear your Mercenary Setup Mercenary Hotkeys Buy a stack (1000) of spell regents (pet, rune, summon corpse, etc) Setup Mount keyring Setup Illusion keyring Setup Familiars keyring What you can do solo at level 85 in heroic gear Do Overseer Tutorial Quest for Epic 1.0 Quest for Epic 1.5 Quest for Epic 2.0 Quest for Epic 2.5 Quest for Trophy Collector AA Quest for Overhaste clicky Quest for shrink clicky Quest for Levitate Clicky Quest for Invisibility clicky Quest for Invisibility to Undead clicky Quest Hero's Barracks Quest Plane of War access TS trophy's at skill level 50 Quest for Journeyman4 Mercenary (best merc) Quest Journeyman's Speed AA Quest Banestrike AA Quest Artisan Aug Buy Baz bags Donate to Personal Tribute Master Donate to Guild Tribute master Stuff to do at 115 Camp 20% dodge aug Camp Circle of Power 4 clicky Quest for Djinn mask Quest for TBL clicky mask Quest for TBM clicky mirror Quest Arx Mentis Access Quest Essence of the Dragon AA Buy class Alliance spell/skill Buy class dichomatic spell/skill Buy class Glyph AA AA your Mercenary Quest ToV Rallos Earring Quest 40slot bags Buy your type 3 augs for 115 Quest your type 5 augs for 115 Quest your type 7 augs Buy your type 13 augs Buy a powersource Buy 100-105 spells Buy 106-110 spells Buy 111-115 spells Quest type 7 charm aug Quest type 4 charm Luck aug
Critques: -Epic 1.0, should be exception for specific classes where it’s still useful (maybe Cleric). A new/returning player is usually wasting their time to do the Epic 1.0 with an 85 Heroic toon. My recommendation is 1.5 epic PRE-QUEST to skip 1.0. Any exception to the skipping 1.0 will come up as someone researched their class specific clickies. -Take off all key rings. Anyone that actually needs this guide SHOULD NOT be spending money on mounts, familiars, illusions, etc, and definitely not enough to need the key rings. -Take off Overseer and Krono from list... has nothing to do with playing the class or actual game. -Get rid unattuner from list. Again, not really directly relevant. Honestly, I’ll let someone else jump in, there’s more but I’m getting tired of typing. I think you need to shorten your list and step back and think what someone NEEDS to understand to play. I think the best way to learn modern EQ is to get there naturally without the boost. Then boost if you want to skip stuff like gearing. Dragons of Norrath AA, etc, or if you want a expedite rolling a new toon once you know what you’re doing.
Yeah, dig thru these and see what will help for yours, specifically the second link with posts on the Heroic Augs and other posts mentioning U tube videos. Also you may want to highlight the difference if the player is using a paid account or a Silver or a F2P. http://www.paullynch.org/eqguide/guides/heroic-characters/ https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/heroic-guides.250756/ And I think this will work for Good's maps since that link isn't working on your post https://drive.google.com/drive/fold...dhczhaemU5Skp0U2xRY29EQkpoalRHYjduRzNrYmx6R2c

Ok I'm just skimming, but questing Banestrike AA / Artisan Prize to me is a max level thing to do .. unless you're just introducing the concept of what Banestrike AA is for example. I haven't come close to focusing on those yet .. I've been max level for only two months. I'm interested in this topic having just gone through the 85-115 journey recently. Something that I needed to research was what gear upgrades to get along the way. I know you said your guide is directed to those who will rush 110+ and TOV T1+, but some classes require at least some gear between 85-110. Fear touched, latent ether, castaway, conflagrant are all readily available in the bazaar on I'd think most servers. Raw crypt-hunters might be a good way to go for levelling up on HAs.
Yes there is a lot of introducing the concept type stuff on the list. Also things that maybe should not be your top priority, but if you are looking for something to do that has some residual value ... you can start working on X cuz its doable in heroic gear while you are LFG. I am interested to know what other challenges you overcame as you leveled from 85-115. Were there particular features of the game that you found poorly documented or things you found out at 110 that you wish some one had told you at 85?
Would it be possible to elaborate on leveling paths? Using this guide (and other resources) I now have a duo of character, both with journeyman V mercs, and I can kill group content, with some difficulty. 3 or 4 mobs will yield less than 1% experience though. Which means that it would require 400 kills or so to gain one level for my duo which sounds like a terrible grind to max level, even by EQ standards. Are there not quests and tasks and other ways to earn exp now? I will not have the willpower to level to max otherwise.
most people do something called "gribbles" from 75 onward usually, it has been the fastest route for me outside of powerleveling with higher levels. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/search.html?q=gribble#Quests and you get points from doing them, so you have an upgrade path while doing them, all the way to 100.
Things I've learned since max level that would have been useful to know earlier? Auto-banking items. Upgrading expandable bags. Details on using housing. Things I learned along the way: Swapping between different map sets. Collection sets are best saved for the 111-115 grind.
Is there room for a TLDR 10-bullet strat for getting a fresh 85 heroic set up and to 115 asap? That's probably what most want to see up front. The old guide linked in OP has some solid set-up pointers, but then it suddenly suggests doing things in ToV and clearing velks mission daily. How does one get to 110+ with full ToV T1 gear? (My recommended path is Gribbles to 101-104, then try for TOV mission task adds, purchased if necessary, to get to 110-111, then overseer, collects, etc to finish the job. If people know to unsuspend mercs for collects and mission rewards and overseer, they'll come out with 300 merc AA).
Thanks for creating this thread. I and some friends are following with interest. In particular we are hoping to read some general advice on levlling path. For a returning player it's pretty bewildering to be honest and a lot of the previous threads we were able to research appear to be redundant (possibly?) due to more recent changes to experience yielded from HAs and maybe even older zones? So we were really hoping that this guide might include suggestions on options for levelling paths. This is what we think we have gleaned so far (putting it down not because I think it's right, but just to show willing and not be entirely passive and expect someone else to do all the work): 1. "Progression"? This is the hardest for us to unravel. Does this simply mean completing Achievements from past expansions? If so, how do you judge when to move onto the next expansion? Is that just personal preference? It appears there is a significant potential to spend too much time on the "wrong" expansion when another would yield better equipment and experience. Do small groups usually do just the "General" and "Hunter" achievements for each expansion (guessing raid achievements wouldn't be attainable)? 2. Heroic Adventures (HAs) including the (in)famous Gribble's. Has experience been lessened for this and difficulty increased? These are given by Clayton Teek I think? Do you have to do the HA suggested by Clayton Teek or can you just repeat a single HA over and over? 3. Daily hot zone tasks from Franklin Teek - do the relevant level and a couple below? 4. Collections? Apparently shiny objects on the ground....? 5. Grinding - the old EQ staple diet - now said to yield too few calories to prevent exp starvation? Cheers people.
Heroic AA information https://everquest.fanra.info/wiki/Hero's_Special_AAs Pretty much from level 100 they are going to want to do all prgression in each expansion and some slayer achievements to get the Heroic AAs maxed.
Go to EQResource. Do the quests shown for each zone. Start at the beginning of an expansion which is level appropriate for your group. Finish a zone, move to the next, etc. Doing this will get you all of the merc/partisan/hero/savior achievements, and should give you a good leg up on the hunter and collection achievements. If you're all-access, you won't have to worry about AAs, and doing just this will get you leveled up enough for the next expac by the time you get there. Actually, you'll probably level up even faster than that, and may decide to skip some content at some point, or just complete things, and be slightly over-leveled, which isn't a bad thing
