will the new server use the extended targeting window ?
  2. AgentofChange Augur

    Of course not
  3. Febb Augur

Extended Target Window is tied to the Underfoot expansion.
  4. autofire Journeyman

why not? please don't say something about they didn't have it back then cause this server is going to have tons of thing not available back in the day (pick, advanced loot, xp pots) so why not etw?

I mean, we can't answer your question without saying they didn't have it back then, because that's the only reason the devs have given. You might not like it, it might not make sense, but that's the reason.

It's a progression server. For all the things that they give us that are out of era and that we didn't have back then, there are many more that they don't give us till the appropriate expansion. For instance, we also didn't have access to TSS zones back then. If you take your argument to the logical conclusion, they might as well give us all 23 expansions, all content and every feature, because we have maps that didn't exist in classic so might as well go all the way.

You ask as if players decide which features are retroactive. I think the extended target window is amazing and would LOVE to have it as a QoL upgrade, but if you're asking why, the answer seems to be:

    • This is a TLP server and that feature is not in era
    • It's not an out of era feature they've ever included on a previous TLP
    • They haven't mentioned it as a feature

    Why?
Simplistic unthoughtful illogical arbitrary reasons and frankly I think they just like messing with us.

You asked if the new server would use the extended target window. The answer is no. You don't get a reason, and never will. That's just the way it is.

All these things were released in xpaks for one reason only, to sell the xpaks.
That is it in entirety. Utterly without grounds at this point.

May as well pretend they do not exist as unless some freak outbreak of rationality and energy breaks out at DBG it will never change. Black Swans exist but most people will never see one up close.

Any feature that was a paid expansion feature (like extended Target) is tied to that expansion on TLP's, but any feature that was added later as a freebie for everyone regardless of which expansions they owned (Like maps, Targets Target and Parcels) are available at server launch.
  12. Numiko Augur

they used a very scientific method to choose which features to include in TLP's and what not to include.

on a regular tlp that's stupid but in theory they at least get them at some point.
on a expansion locked server the concept of never gaining access to QoL improvements at any point is ridiculous.

Because it's the single most powerful UI change that they ever added to game.

It is not quality of life. Quality of life is being able to search the Bazaar with filters for 1hpiercer and 2hpiercer in the Bazaar, unlike he original generic piercing filter.

Being able to lock in 5 targets, PC or NPC, not in your group and monitor their health/buffs from anywhere in zone. Being able to see exactly what aggroed you or your group/raid and see whom it is targeting. Being able to monitor health of mobs in a balance event. Etc etc

It is not a quality of life feature. It's a massive power gain, more for some class roles than others but everyone benefits from it. It trivializes events like Jelvan and Balreth. It makes playing a healer in a raid infinitely more easy.

The game is already extremely simplistic and easy from Classic through the first 5-10 expansion. Adding in ETW would make it that much easier and by extension more boring.

ETW is a wonderful tool, but it belongs in the era it was introduced. Not on TLPs.

It's not ridiculous. The whole premise of the server is that some players don't want to see modern stuff, ever. It's no more ridiculous to leave extended target out permanently than it is to leave mercenaries out permanently, or Gates of Discord out permanently, or anything else that came about after LDoN.
  16. Rhodz Augur

    That premise is flawed.
It is not the improvements to the UI we do not want it those awful xpaks that were pushed out after GoD.
Know anyone using the old classic UI? Yeah that
  17. autofire Journeyman

these wont see play on the server so not sure the relevance.

it is going to have plenty of modern QoL that certain isnt in "era" unless you feel it will have corpse runs and wont have advanced loot.

Agnarr will get features like extended target window whenever (if ever) the global assignment of this feature is changed.

This is true, I would suggest, for basically everything. As in Agnarr is not getting special rules that are not just a toggle in the existing global rules options (i.e., free trade loot = no, true box = yes, etc.).

By design/intention... Agnarr will actually get nothing forever (which is kind of the point) unless something is retroactively put into original-LDoN. Accept what Agnarr is now and play there and be happy --or don't play there, would be my suggestion.
  19. Febb Augur

Ya the extended target window is not a QoL change as pointed out by Darchon_Xegony. If you want live server features, go play on a live server. The whole point of the progression servers is to experience Everquest close to how it was in each expansion. I'm surprised classic enthusiasts aren't here throwing a fit over people asking for such features.

People: I want a pop locked server for reasons.
DBG: (finally relenting) ok fine, here is one locked at LDON. Enjoy
People: (complaining about wanting features from later expansions)
    (SMH)

Extended Target Window is tied to underfoot; just like mercs are tied to SoD, and clicking things from inside your bags is tied to RoF. If you want to play on a locked server, you have to accept you won't have those things.

If they're important to you, perhaps Lockjaw, Ragefire, Phinny, or Live is a better place for you then.
