Which melee DPS for Mangler?

Mangler is now on Kunark, so some of the melee are starting to be acceptable. I'm torn on deciding what to play between Rogue, Ranger, or Monk.

Rogue - Epic makes them actually somewhat useful now and with Sebilis and Chardok, lock pick is also a useful utility.

Ranger - not great DPS in Kunark I don't think, but I would enjoy them being powerful in Luclin/PoP.

Monk - Obviously the best melee for a long time, but probably super overplayed and I would have to pull a lot.

Which would be the best option for Kunark and then heading into Velious and Luclin?

Monk is most effective and most desired, but there's also a lot of them. There's also nothing wrong with having 4 monks in an xp group though.

Ranger is good for being one of the rarer played classes, and having a taunt button for tanking group content. Raids are often low on rangers.

Rogues are good if you enjoy spending your time lfg.

    All three have easy epics.

If you actually care about dps, the monk will demolish the others. Rogue will be weak and only really a good choice for scooping up rogue gear easily, aka if you are in a top guild but have very low playtime. Ranger has its moments but will be behind monk 90% of the time.

Don't base your class selection off perceived oversaturation of a class, it'll just leave you feeling like a martyr and regretting your decision.

There's a good reason there's lots of monks and very few rogues. Speaking from multiple TLP experiences, monks also seem to attract people that ghost on guilds the second they get their raid weapons so while a guild might have 13 monks on the roster, 3 might actually show up on a regular basis.

Rogue is consistently the best DPS of the bunch, but they're also the most boring and less self sufficient.

Rangers are the most fun and self sufficient, but are weak until SoL.

Monk is beyond overrated and attract players that are bad or like to pull.
  7. Guzzle Augur

    This is... bad advice.

Monks, equally geared, are well enough ahead of rogues.. without having to consider positioning.

Rogues are usually so few, along with rangers, that they get geared first and can pull ahead early. They get geared absurdly easily, and without much competition.

Rogues are still a great class, and should be better DPS than monks since they cannot really do much else, but currently on TLP's (at least, classic to TSS), they just aren't. They are, however, extremely competitive and not terrible after classic and worth playing.

Rogues with gear are great dps in Kunark. The idea that they are not is a myth.

go ranger. The other melee classes are so boring

This is very wrong. Nothing comes close to monk epic dps in kunark. Rogues kinda catch up in velious but are still usually behind.

By PoP monks and rangers top the charts with rogues usually just behind them.

Monk, most consistent dps for several expacs, Rogues will catch up eventually and Zerkers will also start competing when they come out and get caught up. You will be expected to pull a lot of the time.

Rogues get treated like red headed step children, at least in classic and kunark pre epic. Should be ok to find groups once you have epic. As others have said, easier to gear due to most guilds only having 2 or 3 rogues.

Rangers also under represented currently but will explode come luclin. They get their moment in the sun during luclin and PoP when they can top parses with trueshot and be consistent the rest of the time, but will eventually fall off and become 2nd tier dps. Will always be good pullers and acceptable tanks for group content if well geared.

Ranger. I'll sacrifice a little deeps for a lot of added utility. Tank, pull, crowd control, dps, buff, heal, etc. It's a damn fun class.

Sorry you don't like facts, but Rogues actually just crush Monks on the combined at basically all points past level 55+epic
  14. Guzzle Augur

On the combined... you mean like including all trash fights and stuff where monks are pulling and rogues are MA, and should have highest engage time by a lot?

Come on. Stop moving the goal posts. You're being silly.
  15. WaitingforMoreEQ Augur

No i mean like looking at all DPS and not just the burn phase. A camp monk could MA and a rogue would still crush that monk on the combine which is what actually matters IMO. You could do a combine of Time gods+adds on those fight and ignore trash clears and a rogue would crush a monk.

Rogue special attacks do a lot more damage, like an insane amount more.
Monks get better ratio and higher skill caps
This means monks BURN harder with things like Speed Focus then Rogues do with Blinding speed. Since these disc don't effect special attacks. This means if you look at a single short boss where a monk popped all his **** he will beat the rogue by a decent amount. But he will get completely destroyed for the other 20 mins while his discs are on CD. All DPS is important, not just the burn phase of a boss. Rogues are just straight up better DPS mang
  16. TLP Addict Augur

You must either not bother to look at the parses or raid with some terrible monks if they are being out dps'd by Rogues.

Monks dominate the parses from Kunark till Luclin. Good Wizards and Necros can beat them on some fights, Rogues need the stars to line up just right to even make the top 5.
  17. Guzzle Augur

Please come back and comment when you've played with competent players and working parses. Your posts are making it clear you haven't done either.

Monk destroys rogue in kunark, if has epic. And by destroy I mean 2x the damage on clears, boss, etc. In velious it gets a little closer, but monk still wins easily. Luclin closes a little more, but rangers move up and fill the gap being 2nd melee dps, Planes it's still Monk, ranger, rogue. By OOW it's Monk, Rogue, then Sk/Ranger if SK knows his class, also by OOW necros become prolly best dps.
  19. Nicorus Elder

No way is necro topping anything in oow. Necro is a garbage tier dps on tlps from pop on to prolly VOA. Tlp necro can barely land spells on mata muram never mind top a parse
  20. yerm Augur

    Necro best dps in oow?

    Dude
