What ratio weapon replaces naked monk fists at 65.

    Playing on Agnarr, no epic. Just the normal monk fist attack. I keep reading naked fists are better till plane of power, but what is the weapon ratio that passes them up?

    Aren't fists without epic 23/38 or 23/39 for iksars? Most luclin+ raid weps will replace that. Even quite a few group reps in POP.

    You want the monk epic ASAP. It will reduce your bare fist delay from 38 to 26. So, at level 65, you would go from 24/38 to 24/26. Note that I'm stating base ratios before the application of any damage bonus.

    There are hard-to-get PoP raid weapons that are better. Shinai of the Ancients is 23/20. Hammer of the Timeweaver is 26/24. Exquisite Puresteel Wraps is 20/19, but its other stats are lower. All three are lore, so you can equip any two of them. I personally think Shinai is the best primary you'll see on Agnarr. The next step up are Tacvi weapons in GoD.

    For DPS, use naked fists. For skill-ups, use a lower delay H2H weapon as pseudo haste.

    They got revamped a few years back. at level 65 human non epic is 24/38 w/epic is 24/26. Iksar is +1 dly for non epic so 24/39 at 65. The monk epic is stupid easy especially in PoP and even if you have time gear that click with the whistling fists or the robe from the epic (if you get it again) is still really nice when you don't have a bard in your group or your soloing.

    Shinai of the Ancients, Exquisite Puresteel Wraps are for sure better than bare fist. Battle Fists might also be better. Maybe Fangs of Vyzh`dra in primary hand

    Use the fists, with Epic, until you can get Time weapons.

    There is no damage bonus for using fists. Keep that in mind when comparing the values from the above table with actual weapons. (Bonus damage is only provided for weapons in primary hand.)

    Some of these formulas may be old, but how I've always done the math....

    MHB = FLOOR(LVL * DEL * LVL * 80 / 400000, 1)
    Mod = (Skill + Str - 75) / 118
    Max = CEILING(20*(Mod * Dam/10) + MHB, 1)

    Where:
    MHB = Main Hand Bonus, LVL = Character Level, DEL = Unmodified Weapon Delay, DAM = Weapon Damage, Skill = Weapon Skill.

    When I compare weapons side by side, I just calculate the max hit and divide that by the weapon's unit delay. Over time you'll get AA that help with the MHB as well, so remember to factor that in.

    Some other things I believe but can't prove (or don't want to argue about)....
    1. Overcap Strength doesn't help with the Str portion of the Mod calc. You can test this by observing non-crit max hits with and without things like Ancestral Aid helping overcap your strength.
    2. The 118 in the Mod calculation is a function of an underlying table. Seemed like 118 was accurate up through lvl 60 but by 65 it looked like 121 was the new value.
    3. Anything with MotM on it will break the rules since MotM hits the non-MHB portion of the calc much harder than MHB. So, don't use your bare fists in your main hand against a raid mob with strong MotM since they don't get a MHB.

    If you believe what I've written above, your 1.0 should give way in your main hand in Velious to a FoN or Gharn's. Fangs in Luclin will be next on the list followed by the usual suspect planar weapons (Coirnav Hammer, Xegony Fists, Quarm Hammer, Shinai)

    The base base ratios cited in my post and other posts above, have been independently via verified parses run on the test server and are all widely acceptable as accurate. I did my best to concisely anwer the question posted by the OP. Too much minutae about the game handles damage calculations tends to be off-putting to new players, in my humble experience. My golden ulle is when comparing weapon A to B, always look first at the base ratio. before worrying about anything else.

    My advice would be to see what is available.
    /bazaar
    Then drop down to the "Select by Stat" button and set to "Ratio"

    Next is if you aren't to level 65, go to the "Max level" box and enter yours.

    Finally, go to the Ratio on upper right hand side of the menu and click it, that will sort items with the best ratio at top.

    Right now (7/12/2024) the best ratio listed is https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=24394 at 1.182 and selling for 150pp.

    Third hand advice because I haven't leveled a Monk in the last 7 years or so but from people that know, in addition to H2H keep 1HB and 2HB up. The Hammer of Corrupted Enchantments linked above is 2HB, REC level 65. I may buy it just in case since I have been piddling around a little bit with level 30ish Monk there as time allows.

    Even if you don't meet the recommended requirements, it is OK to buy/use something with REC vs REQ. Those items grow with you. As you level, the stats and effectiveness grow as your levels do. Thing is, you may be able to get a lower REC weapon that is actually better for the time being. Use the list Aziuno posted with the Bazaar list you find in game to check for items. For example at level 30 your H2H ratio is 16/38 or .421 which means something like "Patchwork Jetsam" at .857 ratio should give you a significant boost. Sells for like 75pp and is an easy and level appropriate drop for level 30, beach MOBs in Gulf of Gunthak.

    BTW, just logged into Agnarr and checked prices on The Hammer of Corrupted Enchantments. Some weasel had gone there and bought all of them and jacked the price up to 33,000pp! There were 3 or 4 there this morning.
  15. alfhaomega New Member

    what were the price before someone jacked them up to 33 thousand pp ?
  16. Fluid Augur

    I can only remember the low for sure at 150pp. I think the others were priced in the 400-750pp range.
    After they were gone, only one was being offered for sale. I assume the other two or three were being held in reserve, but who knows? Such is life.

    Three below 1000p were listed just a couple hours ago. One was at 150p.
