Recently i remembered there being a page on the eqplayers site that listed all the characters you created by server. this seems to have vanished was it removed or am i just not looking in the right place? wanted to look back and see if there were any toons ive forgotten about in the past etc and thought this would be a better place to start rather than logging into every server etc ....

EQ Players was removed and they are working on a new site. When that will be available is anyone's guess and they aren't known for ever giving dates things will be available.

This a year ago. Has anything become of it.
  4. Iila Augur

Piestro has said that there is no site being worked on, nor is there a time table for one to be worked on. But they'd like to have it back.

    It's dead and gone.

If by a year ago, you mean a month ago that was during the previous calendar year, yes.

As in the quote of mine you used is from January, 24 2013.

What purpose does a website like that provide. So you can stalk people?
  13. Sinestra Augur

You could look at your own characters and see which server they were on. You could look at people who had your characters names on other servers. You could look at other people's character profiles. All the things you can do with Magello only it actually works like EQPlayers never did. If you didn't want people to see you, you could opt out.

Magelo has that covered for the most part, and without having to store the information for everyone's trader mule and alt. SoE might see it as the "Why buy the cow when the milk is free?" cliche.

Last but not least, you could search for good friends of old.....

Unless Magelo has changed, it is not free to get it to automatically update. It's only free if you manually update your character every time you get new gear, etc. You also need to have Java installed on your computer and be running Magelo Sync to sync it.

In addition, SOE would be able to offer much more, since they have all the information, including stuff that is not easy for players to currently get.

I guess Census is dead for EQ. Pretty sad. Another sign that EQ is dying. Piestro says EQ will be around for years to come and I believe him. But it's looking more and more like a case of they just will just leave the respirator on, we can't expect much beyond that.

This sounds like one of those Italian mother's guilt trip feel sorry for me speeches when they try to manipulate you into doing something.

BTW who doesn't have Java installed these days?
  18. Khat_Nip Meow

I don't. I have no use for it in anything I do.

Regarding Magelo, Magelo allows you to try their premium service for free for 10 days. This is sufficient to run their sync program to get your character on there and up to date. After the trial runs out you just manually add any new gear you might acquire from that point on (or subscribe).

/Personally I'd rather use something from SOE themselves but we make do with what we have.

Java is like the biggest security problem on the internet :p. By default Firefox does not allow it to even load on its own unless you specifically go into the options to enable it like every time it has to be loaded.

EQplayers is "belly up" up the moment, i.e. not functional

I did like the feature where everyone was included. The issue with magelo, is that it requires manual action by player to either manually update it, or run software to update it. EQplayers did that automatically for all players.

My opinion is that EQPlayers in the original form with the players profiles and lists was a massive low cost marketing tool for EQ.

personally I would not want that data cluttering up the in-game interface, but as something that can be accessed outside the game via mobile media or web browsers would be $$.
