We tried FV, now about the opposite?

On FV, everything was droppable. I never played there but suspect it was a RMT magnet. FV is dead now; and has been for quite some time. Can DBG in their glorious experimentation, consider a server where every drop is no drop? Crafted items will be droppable of course.

If you look at EQ population charts, you will see a massive spike in growth up until mid 2001; at that point WOW has *not* arrived yet; but EQ's growth goes from sharp to flat. Is it a coincidence that at that point many characters had attained an uber status, permitting them to monopolize any remotely valuable spawn; usually for RMT.

Even phinigel is getting to that point. It will be very interesting to see its population; considering the server has everything going for it; this may finally answer the riddle, "when and why do players leave."

Where is the economy then? Doing something like this would get rid of a major social aspect of the game.

    Umm, why?

You realize FV is the most popular live server right?

Making a server where everything is no drop would not attract a very big player base...
  4. Arclan Elder

I heard FV was dead, but it's quite possible it is not as dead as other live servers. I know of no other way to get rid of RMT than to make loot no drop. Multi Quest should be gotten rid of too. The economy would resort to tradeskill items, which would once again be useful instead of 99.9% useless. The server would attract an entirely different class of players; while at the same time repelling others (ubers).

If the population of phinny declines, I'd make a case for a no drop server. If the population doesn't decline, then nevermind...

Tallor forgot to add that this no drop server should also be restricted to level 1-50, and that there should be no further expansions ;)

I bet no one has ever sold no drop loot before and they would never think to do so in this fantasy land server.

Plus with all this hard hitting data like "FV is dead" (FV is top #3 populated server) how could DB stand to not listen to such great advice?

There is not an eyeroll emoji large enough for your continued poorly thought ideas and bad correlations as to EQ population decline.

Tallor, have you considered that f you got rid of no drop, people would still find ways to RMT? People RMT for power levels and fully leveled characters all the time.

And if you have never played on FV, you are really in no position to talk about what it is like "over there."

I really like FV ruleset . that's why I play there.

I honestly wouldn't be against a no drop quarm event. That could be pretty neat.

Ever consider what a RMT factory the TLP servers have become?

What's the going rate for MPG trials?

And I have never, never, never ever seen anyone sell the loot rights to a no drop item to get around that pesky no trade rule:rolleyes:.
  11. Kutsuu Augur

People would just RMT for loot rights, it doesn't fix that problem.

The hill several of you choose to die on is the RMT selling of loot rights? That is probably 0.05% of the RMT problem; I'd be satisfied with eradicating the other 99.5%. I still imagine FV is dead; and what little population it has are RMTs cannibalizing each other. If that's their thing, enjoy.

Instead of listening to what Random_Noob_00001 says about a server, why not log into it to see for yourself? You'll find that FV is as active as any other "live" server, if not more active than most.

It's been said, but I will add that FV server is plenty healthy.

So to the core proposal: a no drop loot (except craftable) server.

This could work (maybe) but a lot of good stuff will just rot. Loot rights would be a more common sell for sure. MultiQuestable stuff would sell even higher too I suspect.

Perhaps if it was a "one character per account" restriction (like FV originally was, and a big part of why the loot code there was made) that could foster new culture in that you'd only have (true) boxers holding stuff down for their one crew... and guilds doing the same, but unless the server ended up being one massive guild I'm not sure it would be a nice place to want a drop on.

Then there is the problem of tradeskill items not always being useful at the level/era you can make them.

I think more people would play on any of:

    1. a Phinny 2.0 once Phinny 1.0 is past DoN
    2. A phinny style PVP progression
    3. a racing unlock progression server (like Combine/Sleeper)
    4. A FV one character only + FV loot code progression
    5. A Lockjaw 2.0 when Lockjaw 1.0 is past DoN (with the caveat of no rival server starting at the same time).

FV is essentially the opposite of a normal server... so ya...
  18. Hateseeker Augur

No drop is what every server but FV is, except for the early expansions. If anything, it's time to do another all-trade server.

If I could stomach going back to live, FV is where I'd be. TLP has its draw, though; starting over on Live with such a gap to current level isn't that much fun, regardless of how fast you can get to max level.

That's what RF and LJ should have been. One true progression server, one time lock. (and ofc Phinny was something new so that's a plus)

Personally, I'd like to see a server where all content (Items, Zones, Classes, Races, etc...) is available from day 1. The only exception being the defiant gear would remain "locked".

From there, the "time lock" would unlock levels and AA's, like the current time locked progression servers.

Sure, there would be some kinks to work out, but I think it would be an interesting mix. Even if everyone funneled through TSS from 1-50, they'd still be breaking off to obtain gear from various expansions. Same with lvl 60 and raid items. I don't know... I just think it would be an interesting take on a TLP and push players to challenge content prior to the levels/AA's they're used to... for bragging rights and whatever else. ;)

This is great, despite the fact that FV has a huge population second only to Phinny this guy here doesn't let something crazy like 'facts' or 'reality' get in the way. He imagines that FV is dead, and somehow the stupid ravings of an imbecile is post-worthy I guess?

He're a hint, just because something doesn't fit your personal narrative doesn't mean its wrong.
