WAR and CLR duo, what merc(s)?

We're new players (non-boxed) that just started on FV, but have been having some issues figuring out what mercenaries to use along with a warrior and cleric as we level up. Cleric seems pointless and warrior tanks really well but then the player warrior just kind of stands there. What would the best thing to do be?

Additionally, does anyone have any general suggestions for us that may not be readily apparent? The game's been great so far!

    Thanks so much!

Warrior and DPS merc at least till 60ish. The warrior merc doesn't have to worry about equipment / dieing. The player tank should work on his skill, just mark the merc tank as main tank in the group role window. After 60 the player tank will make a better tank than the merc one.

The problem is the two classes you picked are ones replicated by mercs, and at lower level, often better than players themselves. Now once you get to a particular level, warrior with start to outshine tank merc, and cleric - healer merc, especially in real tough content. That said, healer merc is VERY adequate all the way to cap, and one environment where clerics trully shine are raids and group missions. If you plan to raid, after an insane amount of work, cleric will be in high demand.

Unless you are already far along, my suggestion will be to swap warrior to SK and cleric for Shaman.

P.S. then you can use two melee DPS mercs. Or for tougher stuff, swap one merc to healer.

Try different ones to see what works at any given level. Sometimes the caster DPS gets a new spell that just blows mobs up, other times they stagnate and melee dps or even tank dps outclass them.

Once you start getting into level 60+, you'll want to switch to caster DPS, which you'll use the rest of the way.

Below level 50 and even 60, use a caster merc on AE burn. They can tank and kill small swarms with very modest healing. The limiting factor has been spell interrupts and those bugs have been fixed in the last patch.

With RoS patches, melee mercs can now triple attack (bug fix) so their DPS has improved (beyond caster dps maybe with the right buffs). The problem with melee dps mercs, for me, is that they more often stand in harms way when adds come and go splat (level 100 plus).

Mercs cost xp, so if you can play without mercs, you will double the xp or kill. Focus on DPS as much as possible on both your toons, making sure both melee, stand opposite the mob, etc. and experiment to get the XP rate up. You could consider adding a /melody autoattacking bard on a third account, that should boost dps and XP rate, while adding utility, CC, and track. Also, there used to be some effects where PCs cost less xp than a merc.

    • Tank and Healer merc if you want them to play the game for you.
    • DPS mercs if you want to play the game yourself.

Mercs may cost xp but that xp is not wasted - it goes towards merc AA, and a merc with full AA is way better than one without.

Swapping to SK/shaman would give you a tank that can snare and split pulls. And a healer that can also do heavy melee buffing/debuffing along with some good DPS.
