Velocity

I'm glad they added a way to see your run speed but it is very different than what I expected. I hope there can be an addition.

Right now, I see my Stats screen has:

    Velocity 0

Which is because I'm not moving. When I move with Spirit of Falcons on me, it maxes out to 57. When I move on my mount, it goes up to 75. Since I own one of the fastest mounts in the game, that should be max mount speed.

Now, if we look at the chart (http://everquest.fanra.info/wiki/Movement_rate assuming it is correct), Spirit of Falcons is 90% faster than the Innate Run Speed of 29.8 coords/sec. which is 29.8 + 90% = 56.62. So the Velocity of 57 seems right on.

Could we get added a "Run Speed" number, which, for example, would be 57 with Spirit of Falcons buff that would reflect your maximum speed, not your current speed.

Perhaps a "Velocity 0 / 57" to reflect your "Velocity currentspeed / maxcurrentspeed", in this example, the 57 would be me with Spirit of Falcons buff. If I then got on my mount, it would change to "Velocity 0 / 75".

    Thank you.

It's Glaringly obvious isn't it? When the new 'drive by swipe' AA for Bards is introduced there will be only one class worth playing.
  3. Derd Augur

huh, you mean bards are not the only class?

Vertical is also taken into account. With levitate and going into a dive you can easily get up to 100 or more on a mount.

You can also run faster diagonally than if you just run straight forward.

Old first-person-shooters like doom and quake, had the same bug(I mean mechanic). :p

    Apparently normalization is hard.
Can't believe they would make such an elementary math mistake so plainly visible.
Makes me wonder what other kinds of slop are in the EQ code base.

Is this still a thing? I remember back in 2000 when we where running around diagonally, I thought they fixed it a decade or more ago...

I think it's true in some cases (when snared) and not in others, but it's something I put a note to try but haven't gotten to yet.

I like the "Current" run speed because I trust it a lot more than whatever estimated max run speed they come up with.

BTW: I get 88 with the new selos spell:

Anyone able to get higher on flat terrain? Does raid gear improve the 4% movement cap increase?

Age of Empires 1 and 2 are still like this - I think - because the tiles are actually diamonds rather than proper squares since it's locked to an isometric view.

Jumping off Plane of Sky will cap at about 255 by the time you zone.

I do find the display of it in a rather odd place, on the stats page instead of the inventory page. Not a gripe or anything, just odd.

It does make it slightly difficult and non user friendly to see how fast you are going by opening up the inventory screen and then clicking on the stats tab. I just want to know how fast the mount is, that is all... not how fast I am moving at a specific point in time. Or in general, just how fast I can run if I have a certain buff on me, or my run speed AA, etc.

I do wish under the item description of the mount it would say what the velocity is of the mount. Or maybe if you move your cursor and right click a speed buff it would add in the buff description what the velocity is of the buff. Unless it does that for buffs, in which case I am wrong...

  13. Sokki Still Won't Buff You!!

Just tested this and confirmed, with Shaman Cheetah on I hit 64 running straight. Running diagonally I hit 66.
  14. Elyssanda Bardbrain

not that I recommend doing what I did.. but I have hit 200+ velocity... and died subsequently..
MY top speed with Bard aa Selo's Sonata is a steady 81. to hit 200, I went to OLD FM, found the tallest mountain I could, hit levi, hit selos, Ran up the Mountain ran OFF said mountain WAAAY out, then clicked off levi.. Max safe fall cannot make up for a bard brain wanting to know how fast can I go?
I think the highest number I saw fly by was 267, but honestly the numbers were flying by, so not exactly positive..

Highest I got to was 648. I really like that it is more like a speedometer than just telling you your current max run speed.
  16. Tvarian Augur

I think I'd rather see my current max run speed, or a hybrid version of current/max. Seeing a 648/80 would definitely be a "this is gonna hurt" moment.

It's kind of useless anyways, because who is going to have their inventory window up, and have that tab showing while playing? Custom UI I suppose could make it available to be seen alone. Never used those.
  17. smash Augur

Have to agree on seeing max velocity. and see : current/max.
  18. Tereil Elder

I usually have only had it up just to test which mounts and run speed things are fastest, then just exit. It really doesn't seem to have a use to keep up at all. I'm still sad that I run naturally as fast (officially) as my fabled jboots, even though I already knew that. Just makes me as sad as seeing the tiny tiny numbers that are avoidance and mitigation.
  19. Drencrom Beimeith's Supervisor

It is the max, yes. In case you didn't know, the glowing drogmor drum from the shadowhaven casino is epic speed, runs at 75 velocity, and will upgrade all your other mounts to max speed. On a good day on my server you can get a gold ticket for around 25k.

Would be nice to see the velocity numbers on all 5 mount speeds. These speeds are currently known as:
    Slow1
    Slow2
    Run1
    Run2
    Epic

I'm not sure how valuable this is to have up full-time. But I enjoy seeing behind the curtain a little. The following is just what I found with a little playing around. Not complete, and may have some inaccuracies:

(ignoring diagonal, "all directions" is forward, backward, and strafing left/right)

    • Walking & Standing
      • 20 velocity in all directions
    • Walking & Crouched
      • 10 velocity in all directions
    • Running & Crouched - Standing velocity reduced by:
      • Forward: Reduced 20
      • Backwards: Reduced 10
      • Strafing: Reduced 15
    • Running & Standing
      • Backwards: 10 less than forward speed
      • Strafing: 30 velocity in all directions
