It is unique. Some of us have played so much "normal" EQ we just want to try things different.

My only concern for this server is truebox. It simply doesn't have a place past the very early eras.

Looking forward to this server myself, going in for casual play and this will be very easy to keep with the pack so to speak for leveling options (and not 6 months of guk, 6 chardok, onwards to tov, grind for VT (or rot in greigs), repeat...so many options to hunt in from the get go)

Regarding truebox, not like it's an end to boxing or anything, I can't coordinate more than 2 toons at once so having to keep the laptop out vs alt tab isn't a deal breaker for me ;)

I'll give it a try, I'm sick to death of classic launches. The 51/50 back in the day was one of my favorites as far as the unique rulesets go, it was fun to jump in on multiple classes and just start playing with other people in content other than the newbie yards. Not having to work on maxing skills/spell skills and having a full spell book up to the current level was a breath of fresh air.

I just don't understand why they didn't do a classic start for a level locked server. It just doesn't seem to make sense the way they did it.

Because there would be no actual challenge with a Classic start? You can kill everything in classic at level 40 and not bat an eye. This way people can find their own challenge, both in raiding and in group play. Pushing into expansions they're not supposed to be in.

I feel like the most interesting part of this server will be the way each guild uniquely decides to progress or prioritize the content at each level range.

It appears they wanted to allow people to play Beastlords and Berserkers from the start.

Starting as a Beastlord and not having to play catch up sounds amazing, really looking forward to the fresh approach.

I'm very excited by this server.

    I get to:
    1. Launch/roll on a fresh server. Always fun.
    2. Do new leveling paths - only done this with Selos
    3. Launch with "new" classes/races - only did this with Selos
    4. Advance quickly to 'post trilogy' content - only did this with Selos, however, the pace of the advancement was a little fast. That is what scares me here. This seems like very fast paste unlocks after level 65. Will there be enough time to level, grind AA, and experience the content? it is sort of Double the time of selos, which was a month. Will the XP rate be increased?

Either way, I'm down for this...it'll be fun!

There would have been better ways to go about this if that was the goal. This feature should be part of a more standard ruleset, without the "oh btw you're always 10 levels lower."
  13. Waring_McMarrin Augur

I was just answering the question on why they didn't start in classic on this server. Honestly I think this is one of the better ways to start with those classes as they require SoL and GoD before people can access all features of those classes.
  14. Ariana Augur

I can see how having those expansions open is nice in that it allows for things like epics to be completed. Personally, I think it would be more interesting to see those classes in classic. There's a lot of itemization that happened for the original trilogy when they introduced those classes that does not get taken advantage of. If epics needed to be available in Kunark they could leverage AoC tech to make those raids available. There's precedent for decoupling features from expansions (maps, click from bags, etc).and class selection should be one of them.

Grinding AA won't really be an issue. With the way things are opening.

    60 Cap - Luclin AA's Autogranted
    65 - PoP AAs
    70 - Discord AAs
    75 - Omens, Darkhollow AAs
    80 - TSS AAs
    85 - Faydwer, SoD AAs
    90 - Underfoot AAs
95 - Thule, Alaris, Fear AAs
100 - Foirsaken, Darkened Sea AAs
105 - Broken Mirror, Ring of Scale AAs

So, yes, you are going to have to work on some AAs, but much of what you need is auto granted when the cap goes up. Helping folks keep up. It is a nice balance of giving you something to work on with out the stress of having to get everything, because it will likely be Autogranted with the next cap increase. You can just focus on the key AAs and let the rest come to you in time.

Another interesting side effect of the expansion launch pace:

When level 65 unlocks, TSS opens, and with it Hot Zones up to level 65.
When 70 unlocks, SoF opens, and Hot Zones up to level 70.
When 75 unlocks, SoD opens, and Hot Zones up to level 75.

etc... So starting in September you'll always have access to Hot Zones appropriate for the current level cap making xp a bit easier to come by.

And I don't ever see them letting those classes be playable in classic when they can't complete major quest lines related for those classes. This isn't just a matter of raids not being available but zones and quest givers not being available due to the expansions not being open.

I enjoy that they're trying something new, but it kinda feels weird to me.

I think it's neat that players will be able to try for "out of era" kills on raids. But that's watered down by the gear requirement changes a lot. Once the server gets to more modern expansions, it's basically going to be "mini-raids" on the highest tier group gear you can wear. Then you'll be attacking raids at a level deficit, but with potentially better gear than what would have been attainable at the time, even from raids.

Given the torrid pace of unlocks, and the general quality of future expansion group gear vs older raid gear, the vast majority of gearing is going to come from "raiding" group content, and that's just going to be weird.

so you're saying people won't be following the same script they have for every other TLP?
