This seems to be a popular activity. Would like to hear your feedback regarding:
    1. Point rewards/item costs
    2. Named frequency
    3. Other general LDoN feedback
  2. SoandsoForumUser Augur

It's been the same feedback for the life of TLPs, make raids count for points and charms progression, or seriously downtweak the charm requirements.

The reward points and item costs at 40 are an issue imo. double or triple points if they were able to pull it off would have been nice.

Group leader chose random by accident. Of course it was a Rescue.

Rescue NPC stopped at every "confused mutation" on the way out. Some could be killed but others had to be taken as pets. And only one per player.

We were at the point where the Mage was going to have to kill their pet if we ran into another one of these. We got lucky and our reward was a whopping 4 adventure points.

Maybe there's a way to dismiss these idk but these should not be causing her to stop. Otherwise we'll just have to suicide the poor things every time we see one which would make me feel bad.

That's about where they would be if the level scaling for the reward were removed, and reward was based on risk selection and mission type only. Not the worst idea.

You seem to not be playing Vaniki or missing the point of this, nobody is doing ldons right now to max the charm, it's about the gear.

In all seriousness, it's pretty tough. At lvl 40 I'm getting 20 points for hard missions. Points is definitely an issue. There's basically 3 tiers of armor you can get from the camps, at 450 points, 760 points, and 1492 points. 450 points armor is roughly equivalent to Velious era class armor.

At 450 points, it'll take basically 22 hard missions to get 1 piece of armor, or 200 missions to get a full set of armor. Due to the pace of Vaniki, it's tough. If you want to get a full set of your class type armor you basically need to be doing 50 missions per week, which is about 7 per day. At these levels, it's not like lvl 65 where you can blow through missions in 10 minutes, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Anyhow, main point is, I think LDON is a super cool gearing pathway on this server, because a lot of raiding targets are just going to not be available for the first ~10 weeks of the server. However, the points you get are just so low that it makes gearing up this way pretty impractical.

Most ideally, you'd gun for the 760 point armor which is somewhere between Velious and Luclin lvl... but that is even less practical to achieve during the time it'd be useful. I doubt they will tune LDON for this server, but increasing point quantities would definitely be great. I'd love 3x the points or so.

Everquest players could never have foreseen this and brought it up prior to launch. /s

The idea of a level locked server motivating players to punch way above their weight/level to get the best gear available to them is really interesting. That idea is crippled if the optimal paths are running level scaled ldon instances indefinitely. Shame!
  14. Dre. Altoholic

I'm not sure that "indefinitely" is the optimal path here, but something is very wrong when most max-level players are still using 80-90% gloomingdeep gear.

There are also players on Vaniki who aren't participating in the max level rat race you describe. I'd argue it's likely the majority.
  15. Genjo Lorekeeper

Agree - Why can't they make this change, lower the points by half or double the points awarded.
  16. Tucoh Augur

What are those players spending their time doing?
  17. Dre. Altoholic

Seems to me that tutorial, paludal, ldon-to-40, then roll another alt is the most common practice here. It's almost as if the PUG types flock to the best environment for that playstyle, regardless of the server's theme.
  18. Tucoh Augur

Aside from people with chronic alt-itus (which isn't a bad thing to have aside from expressing it in ldon of all places), this strategy would make sense if folks figure that the benefit of having a small army of alts is more beneficial than having a "geared" level 40 character. Especially a week after release. Never the less I expect that most people playing consistently this month will be gearing in the couple of weeks leading up to the next level cap raise, and doing so in ways that are atypical of other servers that start with a higher level cap and more constrained content.
  19. Dre. Altoholic

In any case, it seems reasonable considering the gear that most players actually have, the point rewards, and what else is available on the server, that the people blasting LDoN's maybe aren't doing it for the gear.

Compared to running like Lower Guk, it's easier IMO.

The dungeons are designed in a more modern context with "rest" points between fights though to my sadness, at the expense of having that horrible, loving, unique EQ Experience (TM).
You don't have to really break camps, and you don't have to wait on a 29 minute respawn timer.

You can keep going like the energizer bunny or bob dole on !

I haven't run enough yet to really get a feel on the named frequency. I keep flipping between whether each named has a chance or if the dungeon on creation says: okay, we're going to create random(8) bosses, then decides which.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Soon as you start getting the 1400 point gear for like 6 hours of grinding, it's a reward.

The alternative is to come grind the Shawl Quest with me...
