Confirmed [Vaniki] Feared While Target Dies Does Not Award Achievement Progress

    There is currently an issue if you are feared while an NPC dies you do not get credit towards the challenge achievement. This has been issue with achievements that require dragon kills such as Nagafen/Vox and the Sev/Tal/Gore since they dragon fear. Since we have a small window to complete these achievements due to being done in DZ only I was hoping the issue would be fixed or retroactively award the progress to those that have completed the task.

    This is known, and complex enough they haven't been able to work on it because its part of the base mechanics. When they implemented fear, they looped it into the link dead mechanic which is why you see everyone with (LD) in their name when they get feared. While you are link dead, you are not considered in the world, so you will not get credit because you have to be in world (also while zoning you are not considered in world). They have shown that CS will not back credit because this is how the game works.

    Then maybe they should make it so you only need 1 of the dragons for the achievement. Because a bunch of people are missing at least 1 due to their fear mechanic. And there are only 2 weeks at this level bracket so that really is only 2 chances at them with DZ and praying something doesn't go wrong.

    Try saving a burn and holding DPS at 1%, let a fear fire, then kill once everyone comes back.

    You get unlimited chances if no one goes above the level limit (or de ding to the level limit to do it)

    Honestly this has been an issue for... well, since the beginning of the game. Everyone has experienced losing credit for a few kills because the mob dies when the player is feared. Back in classic EQ, getting "credit" really only amounted to getting the xp and the loot from the mob. We've all watched a rare's corpse poof in front of our eyes because it died while we were feared.

    In modern EQ with achievements, getting "credit" for a kill has become more important, and missing out due to fear has become that much more frustrating. I don't know what the best method to fix this is, since as Soulbanshee mentioned fear is just a very bizarrely designed mechanic. Maybe turn NPC fear effects into a stun/push instead.

    There are reliable workarounds from the players' perspective for some of these situations. Like old school dragons all have their fear on a predictable timer. But other situations don't have this type of workaround, and it ultimately shouldn't be a risk we run any time we fight a fearing mob that we may win the fight but lose the reward.

    Fear also has the problem of randomly warping people to loc 0, 0 and if you die while feared you crash / dc. Maybe it's time to just remove the fear abilities from all NPCs in the game if these things aren't going to be fixed. I really don't care if it makes Kunark dragons easier, they're irrelevant even on TLPs.

    Changing fear to a "push away" was a good suggestion & achieves the same basic result of the player not being able to continue being in combat with the mob, though "instant" abilities may complicate that the stun effect being part of the push would counter those too.

    The fear is more a "roleplay" thing than a functional necessity anyway.
