Unable to Login Past Server Selection Lately

Ever since that maintenance on Thursday I have found it very difficult to log in past server selection, it says I need to update my launcher and I've verified my files multiple times and eventually it will let me login after around 30 attempts. I also noticed SLOW zone times lately. No issues ISP side and I'm hardwired 1gb/1gb whats going on? Sometimes my zones just freeze up and i have to quit out and then cant get back in for 30 more attempts.

Sometimes it says something about an error 1017
    OR
A connection to the server could not be reached. Please check your internet connection to make sure you are online.

Obviously I'm online, I'm typing this :) What IP address can I ping for testing a traceroute and also what ports, thank you.

This is on 2 different pc setups hardwired. Same issue on both

Check out this post, player had the same issue.

No solution posted for this specific problem so I'll paste in a generic list of connection fixes below, something may help:

    Connection issues:

Power cycle your router & modem -
Switch off for 60 seconds then back on.

Add launchpad.exe & eqgame.exe to the exceptions or white-list for your anti-virus & firewall - especially if you are using Windows Defender as this is known to often block connections to EQ.

    Reset your Internet Options:
Even if you use Firefox, Google Chrome or another web browser to surf the internet, the LaunchPad runs off of Internet Explorer settings. Follow these steps to reset your Internet Options which may improve LaunchPad performance.

Go to Start, then your Control Panel.
    Click on Internet Options.
    Click on the Advanced Tab.
    Click on Reset.
Check the box Delete Personal Settings, and then OK.
Go back to Internet Options to the Advanced Tab, scroll down to Security and un-check "Check Server Certification Revocation" and "Do Not Save Encrypted Pages to Disk".
    Click OK.

    Clear the LaunchPad Cache
Navigate to the directory of the game you are trying to play and open the launchpad.libs folder. Delete the launchpad.cache folder and relaunch the LaunchPad again.

    Flush DNS (reset internet connection)

Navigate to the desktop. (From Home, tap or click the Desktop tile).
Right-click the Start button (the Windows logo in the lower-left).
    Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
When asked whether to allow Command Prompt to make changes to your computer, select Yes.

Note: If you are asked for an administrative login, you will need to contact your system administrator.
Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press Enter.
Type "ipconfig /registerdns" and press Enter.
Type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter.
Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter.
Type "netsh winsock reset" and press Enter.
    Restart the computer.

Hey! Thank you for taking the time to respond and put all this. I did 100% try all of this just now again and still no luck :(

I've even used hotspot on my verizon cell network to try and log in to get off my own ISP and was unable to connect. I want double xp weekend for this, missing out on DKP etc

Could be worth a phone call to your ISP it has been the case that some on specific ISP or certain hardware have at times had connection problems (Century Link for example affected a bunch of folks).

i need an ip address to give them though to start troubleshooting, launcher issues and eqgame.exe issues kicking off. ports eq uses etc

Its not always EQ - Windows and some AV programs have updated in the last week and they might have kicked out a setting or changed something. Might not hurt to look closer at undoing any updates your computer had.

I did a google for IP address for Everquest and got this page which gives ports, ip etc

    https://dnslytics.com/ip/64.37.171.44

    or this (also from google)
    https://www.reddit.com/r/everquest/comments/68wcsz/login_server_address/

I take no credit or responsibility for those results. Just hoping to point you in a direction that you asked for:)

Also are you able to bypass the patcher?

It would help to know if your in the US and using a laptop or Steam
  8. Gengrel Lorekeeper

by clicking eqgame.exe, no. US and i deleted game and redownloaded from EQ website and no more steam junk. I saw a few other ips along the road like eqworld-03 or w/e did a few tracerts, had a few timeouts on their end and on my end but no clue if those ips were old servers etc. I updated all my computer even bios etc and no clue, i checked windows defender and verified its allowed in there .....do devs read these on weekends? prob not

The Developer's are mostly busy with content creation & related fixes, tech stuff tends to be supported through the Customer Service team AKA GM's and issues like this one would fall within their area.

You can try raising a petition with the GM's for help but you probably did the right thing posting in this forum which is where players try to help each other out & often can supply workarounds and fixes.

Most of the company staff generally don't work weekends, though the Operations team do keep a few people on call over weekends to monitor and fix any back end issues that cannot wait till the team are back in.

OP, any luck on this one? The fact this happens on 2 different computers on 2 different ISPs would seem to indicate that it must be the particular phase of the moon right now!

I've been having random issues since the update too. I have 3 accounts, and randomly one of the accounts will lock up and needs to be killed with task manager and restarted when zoning. Also, if I camp but don't close the app, I will sometimes get kicked to the login screen and have to wait until the character is automatically logged out. Then, sometimes but not always, it tells me another user has logged in and I have to input my credentials. Nothing has changed with my ISP or router. My ping times are fine; there is no fluxuation. I cannot imagine how it could be anything other than the recent update as that is precisely when the issues began to occur. I see all these things are showing up in other threads, so it's not just me or my computer(s). I've even reinstalled.

The "other user" thing is a known consequence of them adjusting the session state and authentication code in prep for converting to EG7's game launcher. It's bug reported and you should vote it up over there.

For your remaining problems there is no magic bullet fix. In the past I've even seen where clearing out a character's bags fixed problems with zoning.

Microsoft and their monthly security fixes and updates can be a factor too.
