Hey Randy! Great brown nose tale! No I won't quit complaining. This game has been working fine for 20 years, to have a full day of down time when I'm paying for a service is worthy of complaint! At very least they could give us some kind of news or an ETA. All you did with your post is piss off 100 people or so.

That's fine. Thankfully I lost all of my feelings years ago. I'm welcome to my opinion just as you are yours :p I do agree however that some communication would be nice.

Also, I'd like to point out that I pay for 6 accounts, so those of you that pay for just one and are complaining about some extra down time just falls on deaf ears :p

Hi :p Randy. First of all, coming from years of joint IT and programming, I have NEVER had a program that failed to run once released to my servers. That's because I ran TESTS to guarantee there were no bugs, and then I would INTENTIONALLY input incorrect data, making sure the exceptions would kick it out, and then I would INTENTIONALLY do everything I could to crash the code in TEST. Please choke on your pink smiley faces and obnoxious superiority complex. KTHXBYE.

Actually, the days after the servers came up were worse than the downtime. Constant zone crashes, hotfixes every three days for weeks on end. It was not a good time to be a player.

"...and if you dare to run the new expansion you will have to have at least 256MB of RAM just for the core functionality..."

I can finally run EQ on high settings. YESSSSS.

If you truly come from a Dev Ops background, you know you cannot laterally compare project complexity. Just, wow. o_O But hey, even smart people are dumb sometimes. Lol.

Do you remember the bug where if your video card didn't have enough memory it would cause the new models to be naked?

Yeah, I'm an idiot. NM the fact that I wrote a program with a feature that my college instructors said couldn't be done, and then rolled it out to servers nationwide without so much as a hiccup. Yeah, I'm dumb.
  11. That0neguy Augur

BS. You are telling me you have never had a single bug introduced into your code? Everyone makes mistakes, get out of here.
  12. myrv New Member

Not saying you are dumb, but if you were taught by people that lived by the motto of "It can't be done." Then you aren't showing the greatest credentials.

usually when a major break down like this happens they give double exp and/or reduced DB prices over the next couple of days/weeks.

While EQ is likened to a powerful drug... It will get fixed (or get your fix on) eventually.

At worse they will roll back the servers if its "last chance unfixable"

If that still doesnt satisfy your irratation... Pick up a skill, IE, tailoring, smithing, tinkering, ect... (I would advise staying away from the alchemy skill until you get a mentor.. just saying)

Yes, my record on roll outs is flawless, yes, compared to me, my instructors who said it was "physically impossible", are idiots. Thanks.

I wouldn't mind a double exp weekend. I don't care about reduced prices, though I guess that could be essentially the same if it were reduced prices on EXP potions. I'm not broken up about it if they don't do anything. I'm really more curious if they have an ETA than anything.

You're like the Private, fresh out of Boot who can't stop talking about how tough it was and how his DIs got him out of KP because his PT score was so high. Yeah, you're that guy.

Please share your flawless coding.. heck maybe the EQ developers can learn from your vast experience... Im quite certian they will hang on everything you have to say.

    This is so wrong.
Many things have "become better" over the time. Or do you wish back the time of the spellbook covering the screen while medding? i do not.

Some issues come with the business though, like patching problems.
Just how much you can mitigate those, is a function of available resources, planning, deployment strategy and of course dependencies. Not everything can be tested, especially if you lack a (physical) "copy" of each cluster, as every system admin can tell. (e.g. the same software can run just fine on one testing environment, especially if virtual environments, i.e. fixed baselines, are used to simulate things but fail on the "real" target because of a different firmware used or somesuch.)
At least when i read the "server update" note, i was fairly certain something could happen; while i was still hoping for the best, i am not surprised, nor angered much - and while i can understand people being "angry" over some "lost time", i wonder about people being apparently so... addicted that they cannot do much better than plan to sit at the computer on a patchday and complain.
I did some other things, then caught up a bit on sleep, found out the re-patch is still going on, answer some posts and will be going on with my life for a few hours in a short bit again, checking on the status maybe 4times a day. What's your plan?

It's easy to write a bug-free "hello world" and roll it out.
He never made a claim on the complexity of his error-free code :)

And good for him that he never had any issues with inter-depependencies beyond his direct control.
Must be a real big "nationwide" company he's working for. probably like 2guys, him on one coast, his pal on the other with one shared "server" they work on.
And of course they might offer some service, but that certainly does not require 3rd party inputs and the likes...

Yes, his claim is not TOTALLY unrealistic.
    Just highly improbable.
