I've heard mages get a big boost in their ability to solo content around GoD or Omens. I've looked at the spells and AA's and am not sure why that era is said to be so beneficial for them. Anybody know why people would suggest that?

Gotcha! So it's a collection of changes that just improve the class in general. That's good to know. The AA that lets group buffs land on pets (pet affinity I think its called) comes out in Omens (iirc) too which makes a nice difference. People don't often buff my pets unless I ask. But by Omens, I won't have to. Plus, box a bard and that may end well? Any other AA's (pet defensives/offensives maybe) that seem to have a big impact?
once The Serpents Spine expansion launches the earth pet with the omens of war raid pet focus you can start using it as your groups main tank. the epic 2.0 clicky is a massive buff, also the biggest increase for pets are around 75-80 your pet starts getting summoned with a full suit of armor plus the invisible pet only cloak of enhancement(or whatever your current pet focus is) item that gives innate defense and a ton of really good stats.
