Tides of Time tower missions - Why is exploitation the only way to complete it?

Discussion in 'Time Locked Progression Servers' started by Aziuno, Jun 17, 2024.

  1. Aziuno Augur

GM's decided this tower should be left in the game, and the gear isn't a detriment to the server. That is not the discussion I am trying to point out here.

Why is it that the lvl 60 tower is so over tuned?

Why is the only way to beat it, if it was deemed it should be left in, to exploit it with a low level persona and high level buffs?

Can you please revisit some of these AoE's that go off, or spells? Most are Un-resitable or -160+ MR/Fire Checks, and do 70-80% of a characters life.

I have had a lot of fun doing the key quests to get the keys, but then pop the missions and realize why people are just cheesing them.

Can you please review your content at the level 60 bracket? I truely think if some of these spells are scaled to a reasonable level, you will have players enjoying the content rather than cheesing it.

I don't think the developers desire was for people to cheese their hard work.

If you need help with examples of some of the spells (Basically the main mob in each mission is doing 70-80% of a characters life pool on the spells) I can gather those and provide them.

Please fix this great content you created for us!

My friends and I did the first two floors as level 65s on Oakwynd when they came out.

Took us. Couple of wipes to figure it out. Need a cleric with DA up (or necro with HS) for when the PBAE triggers around the 16 second mark, in first floor, for example. They are a fun challenge we thought.

Too bad on Teek noone it seems to get cheesed with lvl 2 mage personas all the time heh.

Because it is scaled to level instead of scaled to expansion. Early Kunark and late Luclin are both level cap 60 but there's a pretty big difference in power between them. 2 expansions of full item upgrades, focus effects, new spells, and AAs.
  4. Aziuno Augur

Level 55 is Kunark. It's Level 55 Req Gear -- I guess I can see your point since I am 60 doing them not 55, but I imagine 55 would have been just as hard.

Edit: This being said, the Boss in #3 is healing 5 K dmg every 6 seconds with his recourse effect... I don't think groups can pump out >5k Dmg in 6 seconds in luclin, can they?

Mission 1 was able to be complete just fine, so I truly think it's an oversight.

The required level on them items has absolute nothing at all to do with the level scaling of the mobs in the tower. I don't know where you're getting that idea from.

When it comes to NPC's with spells and abilities they have always been bad about scaling things to the correct level. If I remember right there was talk about how the level 65 missions where impossible for players on Agnar when it was released and I think some work was done on fixing the scaling.

Nah they didn't change anything. On Agnarr the aoe on the first boss does like 20k DMG still. The thing is the bosses have such low HP, USUALLY you can kill it before the aoe goes off.

For most of them that's kinda how it goes. Just blow up.any discs your chars have and the bosses die before they kill you mostly.

Just so I understand this, the rewards from the tower merchant are just gated to whatever level your character is and what missions you've done, and don't require you to have done say the level 55 version to get the level 55 reward?
  9. SteamFox Augur

    correct.

You should capture what spells you feel are scaled poorly and make a bug post about them, specify the lvl of toons, the hp, the name of spell, the dmg it does etc.

Yeah it's REALLY good game design when the best way to complete "fun anniversary missions" are to play level 2 characters instead of your main.

    Absolute joke

They have always been bad at scaling missions involving spells/abilities. The best thing to do it report which ones are causing issues so that they can fix it and hopefully tune things better for future tower level releases.

They should do better for the "Year of Darkpaw"

Thanks for the tip but I won't be wasting my time searching for bugs and reporting them so they can be fixed 3 years later. I'll just buy tower sets for 5000 plat and never interact with the content they seemingly worked hard on. You have fun with that though.

My understanding is you have to have done them, and you get the achievement.
Then with the achievement you can see rewards on the vendor and you need to be of level to see the rewards that are Level Req on the vendor.
People are using persona to complete it on a low level, and then persona'ing back to their 55+ to buy it.

I am not asking to nerf persona... whatever sells their expansion /shrug... but it is a exploit/cheese, and just want to be able to do it normally. New content can be great fun to experience. I enjoyed the keys, just can't do missions.
  15. Waring_McMarrin Augur

You are correct, they should do better on their scaling missions but no matter how much you wish for that it isn't going to happen any time soon. For now you should just report spells/abilities that are causing players in a given level range to fail so that they have a chance to fix them.

And for the record they have already adjusted some of the missions based on the feedback., but if you don't want to attempt to get things fixed that you don't have to.

Thanks for the tips and information Waring. Very useful as always.

Just because you don't want to make the effort to report the level ranges that have bad spell/ability tuning doesn't mean that others feel the same. There are some that will find this information useful even if you don't care to try and post the minimal information to try and get the problems you have fixed.
  18. Gheed Augur

You keeping this back and forth going is baffling. I am not the OP, I simply said that it was a joke that the tower is doable on level 2s but not on your main characters.

It is an embarrassment that the tower is in this state. I am not working for Darkpaw, I am not paid by them, I will not go out of my way or spend my time looking up spells/abilities to teach them how they SHOULD be working.

They know the scaling is bad. There are many people saying so. If you didn't know, they read other sections of these forums. Angeliana has stated she takes MANY issues that she sees on the forums to the team. I am not a beta tester. I am a consumer unhappy with the product that is voicing their concern on the official forums of the game company.

I know how Darkpaw handles bugs. People are still getting monk epics stolen YEARS after Mob Locking was introduced despite bug reports on the topic. This event lasts until the end of this year. I will not waste my time peeing in the wind.

You keep on complaining that I am providing a suggesting to help the developers know exactly what level ranges and spells are causing players issues. Just because they know that they have problems with scaling doesn't help them know every level range of the missions that need to be fixed.

I posted a suggestion that will help provide the information that the devs can use to fix the missions that are bad and you seem to have a problem with it. Just as it is with any game or piece of software that ahs bugs, if you want the developer to fix those bugs you need to provide them the information that they need to identify the problem and fix it.

It doesn't matter if you are a beta tester, getting paid to fix the problems or none of the above, if the devs don't have the bugs that the players see identified they won't be able to fix them.
  20. Gheed Augur

The devs have the bug. The tower is not scaling correctly at level 60.

"Xenovorash is not loot locked to the monk that did the turn-in"

    https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/monk-1-0-xenevorash-not-loot-locked.276328/

A bug report posted in 2021, yes you read that correctly, by Bobbybick nonetheless. It has the problem listed exactly and the solution needed. To my absolute surprise, nothing has been done. Monks are still getting their items stolen. That was THREE YEARS ago. If you didn't know, the tower does not last three years.

Like I said, we all know how bug reports are handled.

Looking up spell data and comparing numbers on the different scaling levels to see if they are working correctly is their job, not mine. Giving them the solution to the bug is not my responsibility.

Perhaps you can make the bug report since you are so vehement about it. Make sure to take the time out of your day and figure out exactly what spells are the issue for each floor, what the damage numbers are, what they should be, why they should be that, etc etc etc etc. Then do this for each level range.. I bet you'll be done in no time! I will pass though ;)
