Generally speaking, people that boast about being Alpha, aren't. People that make comments like "Alpha males do x" aren't. They don't get it. They're just using buzz words to try and fit in. It's "little dog" syndrome. Little dogs bark too much too often. Big dogs bark when its needed.

So what you have is a bunch of little dogs barking all the time, and not getting punished because they aren't a threat to anybody. Other little dogs follow suit, and all of a sudden its Alpha to be at the opposite end of what Alpha really is due to sheer misunderstanding.
