Teek and Anniversary Tower - a Lose/Lose?

So the newest ruckus on the new TLPs has been the anniversary tower events and scaling of the items towards early expansion eq content. Even though it's only been less than a week since launch, I think we may just be stuck with how it is.

Mine and many other biggest issue with this gear is that it makes pretty much every piece of group and top end raid gear of the slot almost completely obsolete until PoP elementals. With the ease to get this gear, within a week or 2 the anniversary gear will be so wide-spread, every other piece of gear of the same slot will be a /vendor /destroy (unless it goes to a twink). Let's take a closer look at what is now groupable/soloable in comparison to Kunark, Velious and Luclin top end raid items.

Neck:

Luclin raid drop Lord Seru.


Velious top raid Temple of Veeshan quest.


Kunark raid drop Veeshan's Peak.


Anniversary Tower groupable/soloable.



Right now there are 4 pieces of gear available with these insane stats - every month there will be more. This shouldn't be a shock, as there is a giant active 13 page thread about this and Teek that started May 2nd.

I think its a little too late, and we are stuck with 3 options moving forward.

1) Leave it as is. Probably will be the option that happens as it will require no action to be taken. Expect by PoP on Teek to have half your gear be from Anniversary Tower.

2) Scale the items to better fit the era. Reduce the stats on the items so that they better align with how the Aniversary Tower items compare to raid items on further along TLPs/Live servers. This would not go over well I am sure, as there have already been hundreds of krono thrown around to buy these items.

3) Remove the quests from new TLPs. Probably will be the biggest outcry. Everyone who did not get them before it was removed or are willing to shell out a ton of krono will not be able to get a better item of the slot until PoP.

I guess there is always a fourth option which will never happen, which would be make these items require a raid force of be incredibly long and difficult to get to match the reward. This would take an insane amount of dev effort, and is almost certainly not going to happen.

The Velious and Luclin items you listed would be better than the tower item. I would put the tower item probably closer to equal with Luclin but the Velious drop much better and is what I would use over the tower item. Kunark yeah, that is screwed with tower items.

Kunark raid itemization was very poor, for most classes I believe mostly group loot is used.
This will mostly impact krono farmers wanting to sell raid gear for the same slots for kunark/velious (high end luclin is fairly comparable), and raiders will be spending their DKP on visible slots and weapons in kunark/velious. Medding will be less tedious with several mana regen, but still tedious and slow.

I don't typically like when they remove the ability to get items for future people that levelled slower or didn't go as hard at launch. I'd probably stop releasing the additional slots on TLP, at least the 6th and 7th that would come during Kunark.

They just need to scale down the gear at this point, like a lot. It's the most fair option. The problem is that if this gear is true bis and it's easy to aquire then there isn't really a point to play the game. Most people chase their epics, max level, and they raid to get gear. If you logged in and the best gear was given to you at level 1, what would you ACTUALLY do after you were 60? Some people would raid sure but the vast majority would hit 60 and quit. That's what this will do - no one will farm or raid, they will get their bis and be done.

I agree that the best option is that they are scaled to the era. If that were to happen, I guess the people who paid 3+ krono a piece would have to bite the bullet.

People, it's bad enough that Daybreak doesn't like fun, but even the people in this post don't like fun.

Sorry that the tower items devalue your krono farming...

There are still 16 other slots to fill out, epics to do, and for most of Kunark, the raid upgrade slots these items go in don't intersect anyway. People basically raid Kunark for azure robe fashion quest and 1.0 drops.

The problem is that they devalue the entire rest of the game, which is what were here to play. Kunark.

No one has believed any of those arguments for years. For example, Selo's launched in Luclin and would you like to guess what gear most characters were wearing?

I'll give you a hint....it wasn't mostly gear from luclin, or even velious or kunark...

If you don't like the tower gear for any reason, don't wear it.

For example I don't like what is easily the BIS robe in Kunark because I think it's fugly....so I don't wear it.

What a weird phase “Anniversary Tower” I can see its gear. But why is it called Anniversary Tower? I’m coming from P99 so this is new to me.

Right, i guess the only option is to quit. Personally this might actually be the final straw for me - the game has finally moved far away enough from classic eq that I can't recognize it anymore and there's no point playing any longer.

Or enable a new breed of krono farmers spamming all chats selling these for 3kr+. If anything this would rain on the parade of the krono farmers that are getting better then top end raid gear effortlessly and making a huge profit.

It appears my sarcasm was not understood. I apologize. But unless I'm wildly mistaken, magician summoned gear was available even in good ole days.

Magician summoned items existing doesn't make this a positive change. Also saying that I didn't "get" your sarcasm doesn't make your stance any better, telling someone to just not wear the gear is stupid. You have to wear it because the community enforces the meta. It's like that in every game that has ever existed. If it's in the game we have to use it.

The tower should have been locked. All the items should be either deleted from the server or the stats patched to be more inline with current era it's used in. It's like all the raids have been smashed multiple times, but what do you expect when 1 piece of gear is better then an entire set pre raid then add in 4-5 pieces...

I can't remember the last time someone cared what gear another person was wearing in EQ unless it was a fashionquest disaster or they were in the person's group or guild. Being in that person's group or guild is optional. At least, I thought it was! I guess I've somehow been oblivious that the community enforces a gear standard. I've learned a lot today!

Yes, everything is optional! I don't even need tlp, I could just play kunark on live! I could just sit in runnyeye for a month spamming lfg and refuse to go anywhere else, it's optional right? This is an mmo, grow a brain.

I'd lol if people paid 3kr per item and they got deleted a week later after the devs finally listen to the outcry.

Leave it in, no point in nerfing it for all the other servers. Its anniversary content for the anniversary server. Its bis for less than 10% of the server's life.
