I purchased a Ring of Forgotten Ancestors from the CoTF merchant. The effect on this ring is Taelosian Guard, when I click the ring I get Shadow of Memories instead.
You misunderstand what's happening. The gear clicks are now passive aas. If you look in your aas in the Special tab, you will see a bunch ot Item: entries. Taelosian Guard is part of the Item: Ancient Power line. You should be at 3/8 after clicking the ring. Because all the power is now in the passive aa lines, the buff no longer matters ... but it's still there (sometimes you need junk buffs). But all ranks of this line will cast Shadow of Memories on you. But the buff itself is meaningless.
