Suggestion: Shrouds for Personas

Discussion in 'The Veterans' Lounge' started by Iven, Jul 19, 2024.

You both can ignore the benefits but that won't help you to block the suggestion. The questions is more if the benefits are enough to make it a new feature. The forum members here in the thread are not representive for the players. Usually my suggestion threads are a meeting place for trolls and white knights, while all other people do get alienated by them.
  2. Waring_McMarrin Augur

No one is ignoring what you claim are benefits rather we are pointing out why we don't see them as benefits.
  3. Iven Suggestions Bard

This is totally ok but there are often statements like below, which are just not true and ignoring the facts. Is it trolling, is it ignorance, is it blindess ?
  4. Waring_McMarrin Augur

I have responded multiple times explaining why what you call benefits are not actually benefits as have others. The fact that that your idea doesn't provide anything new from the existing shroud system is just one of the problems that people have raised with your suggestion.
  5. Randomized Augur

That isn't ignoring anything. The facts are: your suggestions do not bring anything new, nor anything that others (aside from yourself) would consider "beneficiary" or "worth the time".

Disagreeing with you and giving you perfectly valid reasons as to why is not ignorance, trolling, or blindness. It's a valid pushback as to why I disagree with your idea.
  6. Iven Suggestions Bard

And that is not a fact, which I had proved several times. The suggestion does add new things by itself and how content will be accessible. Sentences like "I can do all this by starting a new alt" are fake arguments that do ignore the core concept and the immense potential of the suggestion.

The game has no level lock and level reducing functions beside weak and rather useless shrouds.

The game has no real support function for new players and friends other than PL, OPed buffs, and OP gear.

The game does more and more lack multiplayer groups until the point where they are already non-existant.

The players cannot explore and challenge content at in era difficulty, outside of leveling up and using the bad shroud system.

The players cannot easily access level locked content and only with immense effort like starting a new alt, and even then it does not work for a long time.

See, I gave you all those arguments above already, but you keep ignoring them.

"Shouds 2.0" are the ultimate All Acess feature (wordplay) that would change how the players can approach the game and it's content. Content recycling instead of dumping. Immersion instead of mindless leveling races and PL sessions (arcade mechanics).

This includes yourself. Unless you come here with data showing that your ideas are well received by the general non-ForumQuesters, all you have is you thinking your idea is good.

If this were considered what players want then why did the Dev's give us what we all have been asking for which was to RAISE the level of the Hot Zones? Although we did want them even higher, its a start.

Players do not want to go lower.

The game has a "new player" support system, its called the Hero's Journey. And 80% of the new players I help in game do not bother with the tutorial. And yet that is where they start. They don't know to turn it off yet.

In order to get more support for players in the game then perhaps time could be spent IN game helping those players in lieu of time spent on the forums. For example I just spent about 30 minutes helping a new player learn housing.

We are all capable of offering suggestions so it does not have to fall to one poster to keep that up with endless posts .

You have yet to prove anything, rather you are stating your own opinions which others are disagreeing with and are allowed to disagree with. We don't see your idea as anything other then new shrouds that players are about as likely to want as they do the current ones.

AA exp is not a level lock ! It is a very limited workaround.

Community support does not add more players to a group. It is like eating salt without the bread. You stay hungry and additionally you get very thirsty without having something to drink.

That is purely based on design. To many and to huge level cap increases eroded the basement. The situation before SoF was much more relaxed. Then someone decided to push out more level cap increasements like mad.

Why should current content matter, when the game is losing all it's players and cannot find enough new ones ? EQ is bleeding out. Higher populated lower content would be healthy for the game and it's future.

It is the "create a new character and start over" argument in another dress. Most players do not want to start over. TLP servers are not a solution and do face the same problems than live servers. And not everyone does want to play on TLP servers. Unlocking expansions every 2-3 months does not grant the players enough time to explore everything and whenever they want. Players didn't managed to do that within a full year in the past, so it hardly can work within 2-3 months.

Then these zones do not have a level lock and are different to mine. Top level lock, not bottom like PoH or OS. You cannot request and start the mission and it's instanced zone when you are over the level cap.

Not all of them were valid and I had not ignored them.
  12. Bigz_Zupdarty Augur

they could just add a slide bar to the current persona window, let you pick any level below your max to spawn as on ur persona.
  13. Randomized Augur

It's the same form of a workaround as your suggest shroud system.

Huh that's weird...when i've been grouping with people, they've come from the community. Are we playing the same game?

It averages out to every other expansion. 6 level upgrades in 14 expansions which is just 1 shy of being every other one before SoF. Horrible argument to make.

You just described TLPs. For all others not on TLPs, current content matters because we need more things to do going forward because some of us don't enjoy playing the same solitare game on repeat for 40 years.

Because that's the argument you're making. You're talking about making old content "relevant and in era". New character. TLPs. Both are answers to the problem you're trying to describe.

As for those who don't want to play on TLPs, it's because they do not want to go back and re-do content they've done before. Therefore, your new shroud system holds no interest to these people.

And people weren't able to do things in 2-3 months in the past due to lack of familiarity and knowledge. 25 years later, we have all of that. How long did the first Epic quest line take to complete? It can be done in a day now due to said knowledge. 2-3 months is more than enough time to explore the things you want to explore because you know where it is, the dangers that are present, and how to safely get there and complete the content.

And how many people are actually complaining that they're unable to go back and do this content because they out leveled it? In all my years playing the game and being on the forums, I have yet to see anyone complain about this. Plus, current shroud system already set in place for this exact thing. And what "zones" are you talking about since the only thing you mentioned was the tutorial.

Every. Single. One. Of them have been valid. You disagreeing with it because it doesn't align with your goals and narrative doesn't change that fact.

If I want to help a level 30 Character level up, there is zero chance that I am going to do it as a level 30. Leveling a new character, which I have been doing converting my Telebinders from one port class to duo Druid/Wizard, is child's play. Log in my 125 druid and a cleric and buff the newbie out, and ship them off to CR to tag and slaughter trash until level 15 or so, then use the super Druid as a target for trash mobs to die on high end Damage Shield, while the runt safely tags with a lowbie nuke. Rinse repeat until they get to level 57, when my perma 86 ranger powers them within the group. Obviously the levels slow down on the road to 85 or so. I am quite sure that there are others with similar paths to fast level a low level character up, assuming one is not wanting to buy Heroic. Best part, is that the devs do not need to introduce anything to the game, and can continue with the priority list

Hardly possible with polls not being allowed, which are not a good tool anyways, and it seems that the players do not get the concept and it's potential. They got conditioned to think that shrouds are generally bad. So when they read the word "shroud", they instantly get triggered into ready to attack mode and do think that this is the end of EQ.

That it not true. I met quite a few players that had a favourite expansion and who tried to stay as long as possible there and doing all tasks. PoP and HoT as example. Players do also create alts/personas just for that. Many players were hoping that personas would include a level lock function and being able to choose from all classes so that it would be possible to create several level instances of a character. One for the tutorial, one for PoP, one for HoT, etc.

And that is the problem. It is their own decision if they want to pass the tutorial but they have to pay the price for ignoring it. Usually those players do land in the Newbie forum and are asking stupid questions that they would had learned from the tutorial or by reading other threads, where everything got already answered hundreds of times. And nanny CatsPaws will answer all their questions there, which is very comfortable for them but does further their stupidy and laziness.

Newbies do need real players because most of them do not know how to find and read informations. Some of them are even unable to read more than one sentence. So giving them books does not work, they won't read them.

I do not consider the Hero's Journey as a good support system, it does only give the players something to do. They do need real and experienced players as mentors to group with. At the same level niveau and not as high level guardians that do make everything trivial, and PL.

Yep, that is what this suggestions here is also capable to let players do, by leveling down to the level of the other player. Supporting the troops where they are, and not far away in the forums or by books/manuals. The current shroud system cannot provide that well enough, as I tried it several times and failed badly. I ended up acting like a noob which is hilarious. Everything else would be PL and not helpfull at all, even that it can look like being helpfull -> High level newbies.

Its is comfortable to throw dirt instead of creating own suggestions and getting dirt thrown on.

Just like this guy in the latest post, who never was capable of creating a single suggestion, but does appear every now and then in random threads for making troll posts. The german forum name "Schadenfreude" does man in english: Having pleasure on watching when someone or something does get hurt or damaged.
  18. Iven Suggestions Bard

Would be a simple solution but the gear problem does remain. I was thinking about adding a "summoned" 20 slot bag full of temorary gear that could be used by every class and race as another simple solution. Not perfect but fast and simple. Only 20 sets would have to be created for the current level cap. More could be added later.

One of the "benefits" you described for what you want was briefly discussed here. Which in itself is not a bad idea, but the OP in that thread didn't go around belittling people that may have disagreed with them. This is one reason why people react like they do to your ideas:

    You: Suggestion #x.
Me: No, I don't agree because of y.
You: Well, that is because you are just z! (In this thread it is because we are all old and hate change.)

Stop it. Accept criticisms of your ideas without attacking the group as a whole as your counterargument.
  20. CatsPaws Just getting rid of the old

I am not throwing dirt.......and I have not called anyone names like "nanny" etc. I help in game. Do you?

Its great to stand on the sidelines and arm chair quarter back but what have you actually done to help out these low level players? Sit back and throw out suggestions that will never be used, argue with other posters who have different views than you?

If you feel Hero's Journey is not worth it then why did you make all those walk thru's that mimic it?

Books? What book? There used to be a book called the Tome of Hero's Journey but it was taken out of the game in 2018. However if you had one you could keep it.

My suggestion is for YOU to turn your talents to in game help. According to you there are many many low level characters that need your help. It would be more rewarding and beneficial to you and the game if you were to do this.

If you do wish to contribute on the forums perhaps answering questions in the newbie forum or other posts where players are asking for help.

Just making suggestions on the forums is not your forte. You fail to comprehend that others have different opinions and they can and do voice them but that does not make them a troll.
