/stopcast Broken?

If you type it out it works and stops the spell you are currently casting, but if you make a macro button for it you just get an "You Can't use that command right now..." if you are casting anything.

That kinda defeats the purpose of the command if you can't use it while casting, no?

(And yes, I know you can bind 'stop casting a spell' through key bindings, but I specifically wanted to put the command it in a macro button so I could make a button that stopped what you were casting and started something else like:

    /stopcast
    /cast 2

Apparently, you can only use the /stopcast (and perhaps /stopsong, I haven't tested) command with spell gems, you can't macro /stopcast to cancel another macro.

Unless there's a way to do it I don't know about.

/stopsong can 100% be macroed, so not sure why /stopcast is treated differently.

And I'm not sure what you mean by by 'using /stopcast with spell gems'

You can only run one macro at a time in EQ.

Edit: also, see Syylke_EMarr's answer below.

Unfortunately, you cannot use macro keys while casting a spell, just a quirk of EQ design. I'd be surprised if it changed :/
  6. Fenthen Well, that's that...

    You can with bards!

We don't talk about bards, those unholy abominations!

    Maybe that's why I'm so confused, I main a bard :p
  9. Aiona Augur

I main a bard, too. It's worked fine for me every day this past week. :)

You can use /stopsong or /stopcast, I use the former when I macro songs, and those commands do the same thing.

You do not need to use /stopsong or /stopcast if you are using /melody. When you press /melody, it stops your current melody and starts a fresh /melody. That's how it has always worked.

Also, one of your songs could be on a refresh timer, which might stop your new macro/melody from firing. Try a different song to test it perhaps.

Not sure what else it could be. How's your connection/latency?

    Good luck!
  10. Fenthen Well, that's that...

I /stopsong in my hotkeys where I'm swapping melody sets, or using epic (because bugging out spell gems is still a thing), before double invis, etc.

So, I got a workaround to function for me:
    1. I multi-bound the "X" key (I'm used to ducking spells with X twice) to the "Stop casting a spell" in Options and a button on one of my Hotbars.
    2. In that button, I made a Social (or 'Macro' as they've been calling it in this thread) as normal.
The resulting behavior is that the Social will run unless there was a spell casting, in which case the Stop will interrupt the spell and the Social will NOT run (tested with a /say command).

It appears that it executes the Stop and all other immediate commands before Socials (or perhaps the Socials just take longer). Multi-binding the Stop with a Spell Gem does not work, nor does a Spell Gem dragged onto the Hotbar.

I hope other find this useful. I will use this as my quick ability to duck out of a heal for the Main Tank in a raid and commence a new heal with minimal finger travel.
