Anybody remember that? Lots of fanfare from DB. Then, none of the bits released worked properly.
    That was months ago.
    Now... *crickets*.
    Did it get abandoned entirely?

I hope so, seems things are fairly good right now except for the lag on these forums

Still pretty dark in night zones.

I thought they made it so you can use the "new" UI or just your old one. Dunno for sure since I refuse to be a guinea pig and test or use something that is broke. Oh wait, I am playing the game.

In before one of the developers posts that the UI Revamp was always supposed to be an ongoing project that had no official timetable for ending...

    ...or lack of personnel...

...or other projects have superseded this...

...<fill in the blank with your favorite explanation>...

This is why you should not have (or if the customer should not believe) projects without definitive timelines. Because it is too easy to push those things out to the nebulous future.

You've already seen part of it - the new UI has been live. Alot don't use it though because its not how the game worked in 99.

Not exactly. I don't use it because 1) the text for the font used in the new UI elements is slightly blurry and 2) which is the bigger issue for me ... the new UI elements are always in the foreground above old UI elements. Once all UI elements are converted to the new engine I would probably use it happily, but per the OP, we haven't heard anything about it in quite a while.

It's never going to get done. There's no financial incentives tied to its completion. It's somebody's side project that will disappear once that person moves on.

It would be super cool and neato to not have my inventory window always on top of other windows, particularly opened bags/containers. At the very least, updating the container windows to the new UI system would be very nice.

Using the old UI inventory window was a good workaround until I started using personas. Old UI inventory doesn't have the persona tab, so I'm forced into using the new UI window. EDIT: someone corrected this below, old UI inventory window does have a persona tab now.

Somehow it never fails that the container I want to pull an item out of opens behind my inventory, and I'm just endlessly shuffling things around to be able to get things out of containers. Please save me, I think I've entered an infinite loop.

I do think its a "get it done when there is extra time sort of thing". So understandable its slow going.

My old UI inventory window displays the Persona tab just fine.

It has gone the way of the update to EQPlayers.

The new UI is entirely useless until the blurry ClearType font is fixed.

It doesn't matter how many elements they update or don't update. It's all useless without clear font.

Great decision to stop development if they aren't going to fix the font clarity first.

Oh hey neat, thanks! Yep, working for me too now that I checked it again. Maybe I tried at some weird in between time when that wasn't working on the old UI.

The UI revamp is complete, I’m sure.

The appearance of blurry text coincided with my purchase of new monitors last year and I thought it was just my new 1440p monitors! I can’t wait to get home and roll the UI back to see if the text is more readable. Thanks!

    This. ^^^^^^

The game is unplayable with that font in it's current state.

At this point, I would welcome them just completely abandoning this new UI vaporware. Stop wasting time and resources on something that will likely never actually be finished.

I'd be fine with them just prioritizing adding all the functionality required to create a full UI then taking as much time as they want actually porting the UI over, that way creators can start working on custom UIs using the new system. Custom UIs will probably be preferred by most players anyways.

The darkness has nothing to do with the UI, it is being caused by DX11, which does not support gamma correction. They only added a toggle for switching between the old and the new UI engine, but not for the UI. The biggest mistake was, to revamp three different things at once, which caused the ultimate chaos that is still going on. About every player does use a different setup now.

Maybe the side project of the same qualified dev(s) that created Overseer, who moved on to that one.

So what is this blurry font thing? I use the new UI and have never had blurry/hard to read font
