I seem to recall that this is true for all classes, but only offhand items that are shields work. Things like Tome of Obulus do not go over the softcap.
The Tome of Obulous is considered a shield for AC calculation purposes. Buffless AC, Cloth Caster, no slot 7 augment in Invested Tome of Obulous: 4085 Buffless AC, Cloth Caster, Nathsar's Darkness in Invested Tome of Obulous: 4145 Getting 60 AC out of a 55 AC aug when placed in the Tome. Getting ~570 AC out of it in total.
Yeah, poor wording on my part. Was just addressing the comments above related to its AC. It looks like a book but it's definitely a shield.
Ifn yer gonna use a heroic aug in yer shield, then consider that it takes 510 hStr to equal that 35 ac aug. At 10 to 1 ratio (and only adding to the CS portion, not the shield's AC), hStr not viable for a warrior (tank) to worry about, even in a shield where it activates bonus mitigation. The shield AC contribution from hStr should be a lot higher to make that tradeoff worth chasing. Favoring weakling warriors and knights makes little sense from a roleplay or gameplay perspective.
