Server locked krono

Yes, when EQ was popular, and the added risk was worth it. There's an entire criminal underground that operates on the principles of gift cards, and krono is nothing but a digital gift card. Krono does not prevent RMT, it enhances it, like I said.

Also, you're replying to a rebuttal I made to someone who called me a liar for saying that stolen credit cards were a driving factor behind cheap krono sales. A premium $19.99-$24.99 two factor authentication subscription server that does away with all of that will make it a lot harder to pull off these shenanigans.

Your comparing ALL games to Daybreak. And are also being ridiculous....LMAO

Daybreak goes the extra mile to combat such actions. Daybreak puts up to a 48 hour hold on purchases from a NEW credit card.

KRONO exists for Daybreak to make money from....PERIOD.

The fact it allowed the player base to make a legal purchase of an item that can be traded for platinum is just a bonus.

As you said, removing krono from a server or the game won't stop RMT, it will just increase the risk of people who are wanting to make trades with it either on a different server or through a 3rd party website. I think you are vastly overestimating the number of people that would be willing to pay that much extra for a server without krono.
  4. Epicus Journeyman

First you call me a liar and say that people don't use stolen credit cards. Now, you're suggesting the 48-hour hold helps prevent it. Make up your mind. How does 48 hours prevent the prepaid visa, crypto, paypal scheme? Credit card fraud and laundering is a $16 billion a year operation, they're not dumb.

Maybe I am overestimating the number of people willing to pay that much extra for a server without krono. It's also equally likely that you're underestimating the number of people willing to pay extra for a server without krono. I can promise you this, the people who have absolutely no desire to be farmed in a video game are not here on these forums to offer you any legitimate metrics to make a conclusion. This is an echo chamber.

They have had a server in the past with perks that cost extra to play on and that server is no longer in service. There is a reason why they haven't tried that again and the costs you are suggesting would be higher then most modern MMO's. Besides even if you have a server without krono it wouldn't stop RMT, just change how it takes place.

You mean the popular premium server from 2002, that offered new content, actual game masters, and GM events? It was plagued by issues that modern TLP fix, such as instancing, one of the problems was all of the raiding guilds feeling snuffed for paying that much money and not being able to do the content. It also never had today's perk of not being riddled with krono and microtransactions. If anything, there's more of a case for a premium server now than there ever was.

Yeah....Gee maybe you should go play a different game before you become part of a RICO charge....LMAO

I think the number of people willing to pay a premium fee is very minimal, most current players particularly TLP players seem very happy to have access to krono to gather plat for all types of needs.

How exactly do players get farmed?

I do not need to hear from other players to understand basic economics.

The amount they would have to charge for a krono free server to make it worth while NO ONE would pay. Due to the sheer number of hoops they will have to go through to make it work.
  9. Manafasto Augur

No hoops that I can think of sense you had to subscribe for a few expansions. I am curious how a sub only server would perform.

There's a quip in the movie Fight Club, when they're breaking into a liposuction clinic to steal fat in order to make soap.

Player sees item they can't afford.
    Player buys krono.
    Player sells krono for platinum.
The krono is then used to feed bots.
Bots farm more stuff to manipulate the economy around krono.
Player then again can't afford anything and is forced back into the shop to buy more krono.
    The cycle continues.

"selling rich women their own fat a#%$ back to them"

I get it, you like pay to win. You may be surprised how many people don't play this game because of it. I will admit though, people who have long written this game off as junkware would never know about a new premium server without a lot of resources being invested in reaching them.
  11. Soriano Augur

    I farm my own items...

I bought 5 krono on Oakwynd to level up 4 tradeskills then used the tradeskills to make over 70 krono.

Most was from Research and Halfling Tailoring.

Because of the exploit it made it easier....prices went through the roof on Oakwynd.

Was hoping for a FTE version of Teek....but did not get it.
  12. Celatusp99 Augur

You can play now and never see or touch a krono just pay your sub. Look I just solved all your problems all you have to do is mind your own business and the inability of people to do that is 90% of the complaints in these threads. Krono lord this, pl group that. Its all bs. Play your game dont worry about how I play mine. If you can't manage that. Cya, good luck.
  13. Epicus Journeyman

What a load of shite, as if it doesn't indirectly affect everyone. It seems you weren't able to mind your own business when it comes to OP asking for a krono locked server. It has no impact on you, right? Just ignore it.
  14. Celatusp99 Augur

I'm fine with a krono locked or krono free server. I don't think its possible but I don't care if they make one.
  15. Soriano Augur

I also do not care if they make a subscription only server....I see ZERO incentive for Daybreak to do so...

while we had subscription only for a while that changed to a free to play or pay for full access (all access to many games) now to undo that means separating the subscription only server from all other servers.

What is funny is how it got conflated to money laundering....LMAO

You are in fact a bold faced liar.
Do you know what happens to any Krono that is purchased through fraudulent means?
Do you know what happens to players who purchase that Krono from an RMT site?

That Krono disappears and any account that touched it will be banned.

In game artifacts may indeed have enough real world value to facilitate money laundering but Krono is absolutely toxic to that sort of thing.

Krono does not destroy server economies, it stabilizes them with the exception of things like the massive duping incidents like the one that tanked Oakwynd. The fact is that particular exploit was available on all servers but Oakwynd was at a vulnerable point when it hit
  17. Epicus Journeyman

lol... I'm done. It's almost as if you just didn't read anything, or at the very least failed to understand the concept of a prepaid visa and paypal transfer. These people aren't robbing an old lady and then scurrying home to buy krono with her credit card...

    Carry on.
  18. Waring_McMarrin Augur

You mean a server that shutdown around 6 years before krono got introduced didn't have krono? And pretty sure it had all the issues with RMT that other servers had. Honestly if they ever introduce another premium server it will likely have more things to purchase.
  19. auto21 Augur

It's certainly been a lively debate.

    What I've concluded is that:
    1) the idea behind a krono locked server would be to: promote a more stable economy, promote a more coesive community, and reduce farming motivation simply for money instead of gear simply for that char.
    2) it wouldn't work on TPL because of human nature (desiring short cuts) combined with the lack of policing
    3) there is a very vocal minority of the playerbase with surplus krono who intend to use them to get a head start cornering parts of the economy or locking down camps merely for money.

Note: I am trying to be unbiased. I have surplus krono. I have never paid for PL services or farmed/locked down camps merely for profit.
  20. Waring_McMarrin Augur

That appears to be what the side arguing against krono is saying.
